John was sitting on the couch watching TV when he overheard Shayera talking over her commlink.

"Wally...I know...I'm sorry...I'd love to but I can't...you know that...very funny Wally."

John frowned, getting up and walking over to her to see what was going on.

"If you want to hang out that bad than you can stop by tomorrow. I'll talk to you later Wally."

John came up behind her and kissed the side of her neck. "What was that about?" he asked as he wrapped his arms around her.

"Wally apparently has something planned tonight that involves poker and alcohol at the Watchtower and wanted me to come," she explained, turning around in his arms and giving him a quick kiss on the lips. He wasn't satisfied, leaning in to kiss her properly.

"Why didn't you say yes?" John asked after breaking the kiss.

"I can't. You know that," she lightly frowned. "I don't need to go out for the night and leave you alone with her. As a mother, I have responsibilities now that don't involve me doing stupid shit like I used to."

He smirked as he kissed her on the forehead. "You should go Shayera."

"But," she started to protest.

"Shay, " he stopped her. "I'll be fine. Go have fun for once and enjoy yourself. Just because we have a baby doesn't mean you can't have a life. It's one night. She's my kid too and you'll have to trust me with her eventually."

"I do trust you John," she told him quickly. John crossed his arms over his chest and raised an eyebrow at her. "I just know how hard it can be taking care of a baby on your own. I've gotten used to it."

Honestly John felt guilty. Unlike Shayera, who was still on maternity leave, he was still active in the Justice League which meant Shayera was left with Emma the majority of the time on her own. She was up at all hours of the night taking care of their daughter and never once complained. Despite her initial fears and self-doubt, Shayera proved to be a natural mother. She took to it like a duck to water. She had done the lion's share of the work so far and, as a result, he wanted her to have some time to herself for once.

"Go Shayera," he repeated. "She's asleep anyway. If she wakes up I know how to change and feed her and I'm sure she'll go right back to sleep. There won't be any issues."

Shayera thought about it for a moment. "Are you sure?" she asked, worry clear as day in her tone. "What if something happens?"

"I'm sure," he told her as he placed his hands on her shoulders. "I know if there's any problems I can call you over the commlink. Plus most likely nothing will happen."

Shayera paused before she sighed, "Alright."

John pulled her close and kissed the top of her head, "Call Wally back and tell him you can make it."

"Babe, you don't even look like you had a baby three months ago," he told her as she walked out of the bedroom, having changed out of sweatpants and a t-shirt to the track suit she normally wore when she was on active duty with the Justice League.

She smirked with a playful eye roll, "Thank my Thanagarian metabolism."

He kissed her cheek, "Have fun and keep Wally in line while you're at it."

"I intend to," she put a finger to her ear. "Alright, I'm ready."

When Shayera was teleported up to the Watchtower, the reality of the situation finally hit John. He was alone. With an infant. For the very first time.

As soon as his wife was gone, all of the Green Lantern's confidence disappeared. He knew how to deal with super villains but an infant? That wasn't something that was taught in the Green Lantern Corps or Marine Corps.

John took a deep breath as he scratched the back of his head, "Alright Stewart get ahold of yourself. It can't be that hard. Shayera does it every day. If she can do that than we can handle just a few hours."

Being as quiet as possible, he went into the bedroom to check on Emma. For a moment, he relaxed seeing that she was safe and secure in her crib. That was until he realized she had woken up and was now staring up at him with her big emerald eyes.

"I need to ask you a favor princess," he was relieved as she looked as though she was genuinely listening. "I need you to be on your best behavior for me because I really don't know a damn thing I'm doing." She just continued to silently stare at him and John took that as a yes. "Also...don't tell your mother I said damn in front of you."

Of course, John couldn't be that lucky. The silent agreement the two had only lasted for ten minutes before all hell broke loose, which was over two hours ago. It seemed Emma had not understood his request to be on her best behavior as well as he had hoped or she was choosing to ignore it; which he believed to be the more likely scenario. At this point John was convinced that there was an inheritable stubborn gene that Thanagarians possessed. That and he was certain Shayera was already teaching their infant daughter how to glare.

John sighed in defeat as he sat on the couch, Emma cradled in his arms, as he hoped to get her back to sleep. He didn't know how Shayera dealt with this day after day and night after night. She had a lot more patience than he had given her credit for.

Emma just continued to fuss and cry and John had absolutely no idea on how to make her stop. She didn't need a diaper change and she wasn't hungry. She didn't need anything. Trying to entertain her with constructs didn't work. It was making him a bit worried; how would he know if something was wrong? He shook his head and tried to ignore that voice in the back of his mind. He then began to wonder if she was crying for her mother.

Shayera came home a lot later than she had intended. It was past one in the morning when she finally returned. She wasn't planning on staying out that long at all. In fact, she had planned on playing a few rounds of poker while having only a few drinks and then be back well before ten. She was a little worried about John, knowing this was the first time he'd be alone with their daughter, but she also knew she needed to have faith in him. That and Wally ended up roping her into a drinking game; the end result being her drinking multiple Justice League members under the table.

Upon being teleported into the bedroom of their apartment, Shayera immediately noticed that neither John or Emma were in there. She then noticed that the lights were still on in the living room.

Being as quiet as possible, Shayera exited the bedroom and went into the living room. The Thanagarian couldn't help but chuckle at the sight that greeted her.

Sitting on the couch, fast asleep, was John with Emma sleeping soundly in his arms.

Shayera softly smiled as she walked over to them. She knew John most likely had one hell of a night trying to take care of their daughter on his own without much experience in doing so. Despite that he had done all this just for her so she could have one night to herself. She ran her hand down his arm and kissed his cheek. He lightly groaned as his eyes slowly opened at the contact and he was disorientated for a moment from grogginess.

"I got her, go to bed," Shayera softly said to him as she gently took Emma out of his arms.

"Did you have a good night?" he asked in a hushed tone as he stood.

"It was fun but I missed being near Emma," Shayera admitted. "You did a good job though. You got her to go to sleep."

He gave her a coy smile as he shrugged, "I was just trying to get her to sleep but I guess I ended up falling asleep too."

"I've done that plenty of times, don't worry. I know how hard it can be to get her to go to sleep. Normally that takes forever," she gave him a quick kiss on the lips.

John immediately picked up the taste of alcohol on her lips, "How much did you end up drinking?"

Shayera softly chuckled, "A lot but you know me. They had hardly any hard liquor up there. It was mostly beer so it was like drinking piss water. The others are going to be hungover as shit. I might even get an angry call later on about how many League members will be calling in sick once they wake up."

"Only you would be able to do that Shayera," he lightly laughed.

"What else did you expect?" She gave him a sly smirk.

John smirked in return before yawning, "I shouldn't have expected anything less."

"Seriously though, you should go to bed John. I'm going to stay up a little bit longer. I'm not that tired yet," she sat on the couch. "Plus I have a gut feeling she's going to wake up soon."

"I will, don't worry," he dipped down to kiss her. "Night, I love you."

"I love you too."
