Day 2 - 3:10 PM
Kagome glanced down at their intertwined hands. Sesshoumaru had not said a word since taking her hand and leading her back to the caves. Biting her lower lip she contemplated her next move. She was not well versed in modern day politics and knew even less about politics in this era, but even she could tell that having everyone convened in the West was not exactly a good thing.
She knew that he would not be able to stay with her the promised 7 days. He was bound to his territory and as she had mentioned before, his honor and responsible nature were things she admired in him. She could not ask him to keep his end of the bargain when it meant leaving his people behind.
"Sesshoumaru," She began. She could see the cave through the thinning trees, they were almost there. "Wait."
"What is it Miko?" He asked, not bothering to slow down or look back.
"Please, just hold on." She insisted, digging her heels into the ground and squeezing his hand hard.
He looked back at her, his face unreadable, the icy mask back in place.
Sighing, she tugged at his hand again and this time he turned to fully face her.
She smiled up at him and reached up to caress his cheek with her other hand, tracing his marking and giving him her warmth. He fought for a second, but he couldn't deny the way her touch calmed him. He leaned into her touch, allowing his eyes to close as he listened to her steady heartbeat.
"Thank you." Kagome said. He slowly opened his eyes half way and looked down into hers. His softened gaze melted her heart and she almost wanted to cry at the thought of never having this closeness with him again.
"Kagome, I…" She shook her head to stop him.
"I know." She finished.
His brows furrowed and he raised his other hand to cover hers against his cheek, taking it and giving it a kiss at the wrist.
"When do we leave?" She asked, desperately trying to hide the emotions that threatened to overwhelm her.
"Nightfall." He said.
Kagome nodded and let her hand fall from his face. "Okay. Let's go."
He stared down at her and it looked like he wanted to say something, in the end though he simply nodded as well, continuing to lead her back to the place where she had felt the most free, back to the place she could not hope to ever return to after today.
They walked back in silence, dreading the time the sun would give way to the moon.
