Chapter 64 – Jelly Babies Math
The Doctor and Rose popped back into the flat's closet.
The Doctor took off his t-shirt immediately and put on a clean grey one. Rose stood in the doorway of the closet, watching him. He felt of his jeans and found them to be dry. He rubbed his beard and looked up at her.
"What? What did I do?" he looked surprised.
She smiled, "Nothing. I was just enjoying the view. I was wondering if you were going to take off your jeans, too."
He laughed. "I'm bleeding into you, I think. That sounds like me! Oh, this is brilliant! I love being joined!"
Rose laughed, "I'm becoming a randy, blue man from Mars. God help me!"
"Things could be worse, my love!" he told her as he kissed her quickly. "Let's go see who's here."
Rose held up her hand. "You need a wait a moment."
He looked surprised. "Why? What's on your mind? Quick shag in the cupboard here? You'll have to give me... twelve minutes. Four times in a field with two bottles of wine is got me...ummm..."
"Got you that way? I thought when you handed me back my knickers, we were done." Rose laughed at him.
He nodded his head, "Well, wine. Beautiful woman. French countryside. Dealing with some stuff. We had time." he reasoned.
Rose held him around the waist. "You are so funny. Do you feel better?"
He kissed her quickly, "Don't worry about me. Are you alright?"
She giggled, "Oh, I'm fine. I might be walking a bit funny this afternoon though."
He rubbed his beard and looked embarrassed. "I tried to be gentle. I'm sorry, sometimes... I just get a bit carried away."
Rose kissed him, "I love it when you get carried away. It carries me away. Have you worn yourself out for your football game?"
He shook his head. "Nah. I'm fine. And you, my dear, are amazing."
Rose kissed him. He put his hand on her cheek as she gave him a long snog.
She leaned back and opened her eyes. "Oh, I love kissing you."
He held her and smiled, "It's the best. Now, why do we need to wait before we go see who's here?"
Rose laughed, "I'm trying to save you from the guys. You need to put a bandage on that."
He looked questionability, "What are you on about?"
She blushed and whispered. "I gave you another love bite, but on the neck."
He laughed as he rubbed his face. "Oh, my goodness! Woman! This is beginning to be a habit! I had to drink two beers last night in that drinking game because of love bites you have given me!"
Rose looked surprised, "What was that question?"
He walked over and looked at it in the mirror. He laughed and shook his head. "Nevermind. You really probably don't want to know. Ugh! Band-aids! Jack is going to be impossible if he sees this."
Rose reached in the cabinet and took out a band-aid. She put it on his neck for him. "Thankfully, it covers it all. Are you going to fuss at me to control myself?"
He chuckled, "Like I have room to talk about that. No. I'll never tell you that. I know you have several yourself."
Rose covered her neck. "You didn't. Where?"
He blushed and ran his hand through his hair. "Ummm... well... ummmm. "
Rose raised an eyebrow at him. She wrapped her arms around his shoulders. "Can't say it, Old Man?"
"Would you let me point to it?" he asked as put his hands on her hips and smiled.
She smiled, "Clever game. Sure."
He nodded and pulled her dress up and slowly ran his hand up the inside of her thigh. He stopped as he rubbed the area that her knickers covered and whispered, "Right here. Close to where you were so very wet. And down here." He ran his fingers down to the inside of her thigh. "Yeah, right there. I'm sure of it."
She smacked him playfully and laughed. "I didn't even know you could leave a love bite there!"
He laughed and rubbed his face, "I was curious, too! I wondered about all day. I had a look while we were in the field. Oh yes! It's there!"
Rose put her hands on her face. "Oh, you are... was that from this morning?"
He shook his head and smiled, "I don't know. My days have run together. It doesn't matter. Does it?"
Rose laughed and walked away, "No, it really doesn't."
He smiled like a loon. "Ha! You know you like it, woman!"
They walked out into the bedroom to find Tony, Shakes and Lewis kicking the footballs at the Zeppelins.
They all greeted them as they walked down the hall. They heard music playing in the sitting room. Jack was singing along with Beyonce's song, "Single Ladies." As they walked into the room, they saw that he was holding Genie and they were both singing along. Jake was dancing with Jackie Tyler.
The Doctor and Rose stopped in surprise and looked at one another.
Rose pointed at him, "These are your friends!"
He laughed and pointed at Jackie, "That is your Mum! Why did we leave them alone with Jack?"
Jack saw them. "Hey! You're back!"
Genie smiled at them. "Rose! Daddy!"
The Doctor took Rose's hand and started slow dancing with her, cheek to cheek.
Jack laughed, "Look out Jake! Old Man dancing over there!"

Rose and Sam were in the kitchen going through the shopping that had been delivered while they had been gone.
"Cookies and salsa! That's for you lot!" Rose told Sam as she put it in it a box for him to take across to the hall to their room, along with many other things.
Rose had got the Doctor some spearmint toothpaste that she quickly took into the bathroom for him to find later. They had also ordered several bottles of wine to refill the wine refrigerator in the kitchen.
Jackie had left to return to the hospital to sit with Pete.
Jack, Tony, Jake, Shakes, Lewis, Genie and the Doctor were in the sitting room. They all sat in a circle in the floor, laughing and being very quiet about something. Genie stood up and wrapped her arm around the Doctor's shoulder. The rest of the men seemed to get very quiet, then all of them would begin to laugh hysterically.
Rose was watching them, suspiciously. "Sam, do you know what they are doing?"
Sam laughed and shook his head. "I don't. I worry though. They have a rubbish bin over there and about fifty bags of Jelly Babies."
Rose could feel the Doctor's happiness.
Jack stood up and cheered. "Oh, yes! I'm still winning!"
All of them laughed, no one louder than Genie and Tony.
'What are you guys doing over there?' Rose asked the Doctor.
'Nothing. Don't worry about us.' he told her.
"Hang on, Sam. Let me go see what this lot is on about." Rose told Sam as she walked over to see what they were doing.
Shakes was putting Jelly Babies in his mouth, one at a time, as the rest of the people around counted quietly. "...14, 15, 16, 17, 18." The higher the number, the more excited the counting became. "21, 22, 23, 24..."
"My God! That's incredible!" Jack yelled.
"28, 29, 30, 31, 32..."
"Hell! That's my number! One more, man! You can do it!" Jack cheered him on.
"Yeah! Come on, Shakes!" the Doctor exclaimed.
"33, 34, 35."
Shakes held up his hands to say he was done.
"Thirty-five! Good grief! Did you know Shakes could put thirty -five Jelly Babies in his mouth, Genie?" the Doctor asked.
Genie was laughing.
Rose knelt down with them and laughed, "What is this? A contest?"
The Doctor looked at her and laughed, "Maths class! We are teaching the children how to count. This is brilliant! And you know this lot. Everything turns into a competition. Who's next?"
Genie clapped, "You are Daddy!"
Jack handed him a bag, "Yeah, but you have to use the sour ones because you won the first round!"
Rose looked surprised. "What? How many did you fit into your mouth?"
The Doctor smiled. "Thirty-one! I never knew I had such a talent!"
Jake laughed, "He's full of it. I think he ate half of them! Let's see how he does with the sour ones."
Rose rubbed her face. "Oh, no. Sour things."
The Doctor gritted his teeth. "Um... I might not be able to do that. Sour things make Rose's eyes water. You'll have to ask her if it's okay."
Jack looked curious. "What? But, you're eating them...oh! Right. Forgot. Rose, can we torment your groom for the next five minutes? Please?"
Genie turned around and put her hands together. "Yes, please let them, Rose!"
The Doctor grabbed Genie and pulled her into his lap. "Encouraging people to torment your Daddy!? What is that about, little one?" He tickled her with Jake's help. She howled in laughter.
Rose sat in the floor between Shakes and the Doctor. "Okay, go ahead. I'm ready."
The Doctor took the bag and became very serious. "Alright. Here goes." He cracked his neck.
Jack rolled his eyes at him. "Oh, hell. Just start putting them in there!"
"There is a science to this. And these are sour! Don't rush me!" the Doctor laughed.
Jake tossed his hands up. "Oh, hell. He's full of it!"
The Doctor took a deep breath and started putting the sour sweets in his mouth. They all started counting. "1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6..."
He stopped and held up a finger. He looked at Rose.
'Alright?' he asked her.
"Oh, I'm fine! My eyes aren't even full of tears." she told him.
He nodded.
"7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16..."
He shook his head and held up a finger. He looked back at Rose.
'Alright, still?' he asked her.
"Are you even breathing?" Rose asked him.
'No. Holding my breath. You're alright? Eyes watering?' he asked her.
"Oh, good grief! Don't pass out over a silly game!" Rose fussed at him playfully.
'Eyes?' he asked.
Rose shook her head, "No. I'm fine. You?"
'Trying not to think about it. I'm trying something.'
"You are mad! Who's idea was this?" Rose asked.
He rolled his eyes at her and started putting the sweets in his mouth again.
"17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22..."
He stopped and held up a finger. He turned back to Rose.
'Still alright? This next bit will probably be the hardest.'
Rose laughed. "You're an idiot. I can't believe you are doing this."
'All for the purposes of education, my dear!' he told her.
He started again.
"23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30..."
Jack smacked the floor. "My God!"
The Doctor's eyes wiped both of his eyes. He held up a finger and looked back at Rose.
She laughed, "I'm still fine. My eyes aren't even watering. Keep going. I can't believe this!"
He nodded.
"31!" they all said dramatically.
"32! 33! 34!..."
Jake laughed, "Holy coconuts! That's crazy! Those are really sour!"
He stopped and held up a finger.
Rose laughed. "He says he needs some more. He's out."
Jack laughed and opened another bag and handed it to Genie. Genie held the bag as the Doctor grabbed a handful.
She laughed at him. "You look like a squirrel, Daddy."
Jack said, "We should get a picture of this! He looks crazy!"
Rose laughed, "He said you better not! And he says for you, Genie, to stop trying to make him laugh."
Genie laughed at him.
He began again. "35! 36! 37! 38! 39..."
The Doctor threw his hands up.
Rose laughed. "He says that's it! Give him the rubbish bin!"
They handed it to him and he spit them all out. Everyone cheered, laughed and clapped. "Thirty-nine! Beat that, Shakes! Sour ones, too! Ha!"
Rose laughed as she kissed his cheek and stood up. "You are such a grown child, sometimes."
"All the time, woman! What's the point of being a grown-up if you can't be childish sometimes?" he demanded. "I won't be able to taste anything for days, now! Totally worth it! Thirty-nine! Ha!"
Genie hugged him. He lay back on the floor and lifted her up and brought her down to his lips to kiss her forehead with each word. Genie howled in laugher. "You! Almost. Made. Me! Have. Sweets. Come. Out. Of. My. Nose!"
He sat back up and he held Genie in his lap. He wrapped his arms around her and held her close. He kissed her cheek. "Who's next! My Sara Gene?"
Genie smiled and shook her head. "No, way! You lot are nutters!"
The doorbell rang. The Doctor answered it holding Genie. "Hey, Michelle! And the boys! Come in! We're having a contest!"
Logan was holding a box. Michelle smiled. "I've got all of the football kits here! Just in time for the game!"
"Brilliant! Just sit them here in the floor and we'll get them sorted!" the Doctor exclaimed.
Rose could feel his excitement. All of the rest came over as Logan put the box on the floor. Logan knelt down and called everyone's names and handed them a shirt. They were red with a blue stripe down the chest. Each one had the players' name and a number on it. The Doctor smiled when he discovered he was number 10.
Rose smiled, "Well, of course! I asked Michelle for that number for you."
He leaned in and kissed Rose's cheek. Genie held up both of her hands. "Daddy is Ten. Like how many fingers I have."
He nodded, "Yep! Ten is Daddy's number. More than you know, little one!"
Tony was excited when he found out he had a shirt that said, "Coach Tyler."
"Oh, brilliant! I like this woman, brother!" Tony smiled as he thanked her.
The shorts for the kits were in the bottom of the box. Everyone changed quickly and came back into the sitting room. Tony put on his referee kit and was ready to go.
Michelle handed Jake a black kit. "Here, I knew you couldn't play, and Pete couldn't be there. So, would you like referee, too? If not, my 15 year old can."
Jake shrugged his shoulders. "Ah. Let him do it if he wants. I really don't want to land on that shoulder, again. There will be other games."
Michelle smiled and nodded. "Cheers! Sam! You need to thank Mr. Simmonds."
Michelle's son, Sam, ran over and shook his hand. "Thank you, sir!"
The Doctor sipped his tea, "Ugh! Nothing tastes right after that sour candy."
Rose laughed at him. "Thirty-nine! Impressive!"
