James's POV

It was time for the homecoming parade. Delilah has texted me beforehand that she, "Never wanted to see me or my disgraceful self again" so I assumed that we weren't going to the homecoming dance together but I was still required to attend the parade, at least I didn't have to be on her float.

The football team float was going to be last so I had some time. I was going to the concession stand to get a hotdog. I decided to sit now and eat it while some of the starting floats passed by. I started to leave once I saw the chess float, knowing that the cross country float was behind them. While I was walking back, a mysterious figure in all black came out of the shadows and grabbed my shirt by the collar bone. "You're coming with me," they say.

"Um, is it okay if I don't? Coach is counting with me to be on the float."

They increases his grip as they say," You imbecile think that you have a choice!? She will not be kept waiting." I was about to respond when Daisy comes up behind me and yells "HAPPY HOMECOMING" as she throws candy in the mysterious character's face and drags me away. I mumble a quick thanks then head back to the football team's float.

The entire parade, all I could think about was the mysterious black figure so I decided just to forget about the figure and focus on the upcoming game. When I got off the float, I saw Delilah walking with Daisy, Ida, and Abby towards the bleachers. Knowing that Delilah was watching only made me more nervous than I already was. We were playing against our rivals, the black panthers of Union County High School. Being the team's best wide receiver, I played offense the entire first quarter. That is, until someone ran straight into me, giving me a massive headache. We still won the game however which is a good thing.

My older brother came and took me to the hospital after the game because I wanted to stay and see if we won. Sure enough, I had a minor concussion. When we were finally discharged, a nurse came into the hospital room I was in and said she needed a blood test. I was confused but followed her willingly. Right into a closet. "I think you took a wrong-" I start to say before she punches me in the gut and puts a black bag over my head. "That's what you get for knowing Abby," is the last thing I hear before I blackout.
