Bella PoV

My heart had stopped when I heard the yelp and saw Jacob go down with pain. I had wanted to run to him, ask him what was wrong and help him, but then he had all of a sudden began to growl and kick and bite and hadn't it been for Jasper, who grabbed me and jerked me back, protecting me with his own body and getting a nasty bite-wound in the process, he would have severely injured me. I know, he wasn't at his senses, and I wasn't scared of him because of that. Something was happening to him and it wasn't good.

Tears welled up in my eyes and fear clenched its cold fist around my heart. He looked like he was in so much pain and I couldn't do anything about it.

God, what if he dies?

But then it had stopped as abruptly as it had begun and when Jacob got up, looking all confused I had let out a sigh of relief. Then he saw me and the Cullens and did the one thing I had never believed he would do.

He lied down, exposing himself and risk being wounded by his mortal enemy. But he trusted me and so he trusted them and that was the moment I couldn't hold back any longer.

Diving under Jasper's protective arms I ran towards him, my Jacob and threw my arms around him as best as I could. I breathed in his wild, animal scent and it was so familiar that I finally did cry, tears of relief and of shock. I was grateful that no one saw me as I cried into his fur. I wasn't even sure he was aware of that but his mere presence helped me to calm down. "I love you" I breathed into his body and got a soft nudge with his cool nose in return. His way of saying I love you too

I got up, still red-eyed but fully calm and looked at the vampires. Esme smiled, Emmet grinned, Rosalie rolled her eyes, Jasper and Alice looked happy still holding hands and Carlisle placed a cool hand on my shoulder, squeezing it gently. "You have made a good choice, Bella."

I nodded. "I know."

"We'll see you in the morning then?" Esme asked, standing beside her husband.

"Yes."

"Very well then. We should take our leave now, we all need some rest before we meet Victoria and her army tomorrow." I smiled weakly at Carlisle's words because I knew for them, rest didn't mean sleep and regenerate. They would go hunting tonight to gather strength and I could only hope they would do it far away from the reservation. Best in another state.

Then they were gone, and Jacob and I were alone in the woods. He looked exhausted, whatever had been wrong with him must have really weakened him.

"How about we go home too?" I asked and the short bark I got for that was answer enough for me.
