Uneventful Day At Work

[Mal and Evie's home. 7:00 am]

Evie's POV

Our time at the park yesterday was so fun. We really tired ourselves out from all that walking and occasional running. We returned home, quickly had dinner and went right to bed. And thankfully I remembered to set my alarm because today I have to go to work.

I woke up and quickly used the bathroom. Afterwards I noticed Mal slowly waking up.

"Hey, morning, baby."

"Morning, sweetness."

Mal started to get up, but I stopped her and gave her a kiss.

"It's okay, baby. Go back to sleep."

"What are you doing?"

"I have to start getting ready for work."

"Oh yeah, that's right. I forgot."

"Yeah. So I'm going to jump in the shower real quick, then I'll quietly get dressed so I won't wake you up anymore." I said.

"Alright, E."

I smiled at Mal as she closed her eyes. After entering the bathroom, I closed the door softly behind me and started my shower. And after a nice refreshing shower, I dried myself off and put on a simple t-shirt and pants until my hair was dry. I walked out of the bathroom with my selected clothes for the day in hand, to see Mal standing at the window looking out, in her nightdress.

"Was I being too loud?" I asked as I sat my clothes down on the nearby ottoman.

Mal warmly smiled at me.

"Not at all. I wanted to get up anyway. You look beautiful, Evie."

"Even with wet hair?"

"Even with wet hair. Always beautiful."

I blushed a little to Mal's compliment.

"Let me make breakfast for you." Mal said.

"Alright, thanks, Mal."

I followed Mal downstairs. We noticed the others aren't out. I signaled Mal to follow me first to the first guest bedroom where Carlos and Jane were staying. I slowly opened the door to check in on them. Turns out they were still asleep and I slowly closed the door.

"They're still asleep." I whispered to Mal.

I walked over to the next door and slowly opened it. Jay and Lonnie were still asleep as well.

"Asleep too." I whispered after I shut the door.

"Good thing you didn't open the door to one of them having sex." Mal whispered.

"Oh yeah. I didn't think of that." I said.

Mal quietly laughed and grabbed my hand to lead me to the kitchen where we can be a little bit louder. Mal had me sit in a chair, but after she did, she decided to sit on me to where my eyes met hers.

"I love you, my beautiful fiance." she said.

"I love you too, my beautiful fiance."

She lifted her nightdress only for me to find nothing underneath. Nothing except that amazing body of hers.

"You like?" she asked.

"I love." I replied.

Mal lifted my t-shirt up to see my bare breasts.

"Yours are smaller, but I love them anyway." she said.

"I know you do. Now go make me some breakfast before you get too turned on." I said.

Mal gave me a kiss before getting off me, her nightdress falling back down in its place. I put my shirt down and watched my future wife. Wanting to be with her more, I walked up to her as she was making eggs on the stove and felt her soft blonde hair with my fingers.

"I never compliment enough on how great your blonde hair is."

"True, but I know you love it. You would have said something otherwise." Mal said.

"Yeah. You love my brighter blue, right?"

"I do."

Mal joined me at the table while I was enjoying the delicious breakfast she made me. Afterwards I got dressed upstairs and was ready for my day.

"When the others wake up, tell them I'm at work." I said as we walked to the door leading to the garage.

"I will, sweetness."

I grabbed the car keys and my purse.

" Okay. I'll be home around two thirty-three o'clock." I said after giving Mal a kiss on the lips.

"Alright, see you later. I love you."

"I love you too."

[Elegance Industries. 9:00 am]

I arrived at work and clocked in right at nine. But as I was heading towards Gabi's office, Gabi came out of nowhere and grabbed me by my arm.

"Gabi?" I asked.

"No time to explain. Quickly come with me." she said.

Something was wrong. I could tell. She quickly led me to an empty conference room and closed the door behind us.

"Gabi, what's going on?" I asked.

"A guy from corporate is here. And, well, excuse my language, but he's an ass." Gabi replied.

"Huh?"

"He's putting a lot of stress on me. I can barely handle him."

I tried comforting Gabi as best as I could by rubbing her back as she rested her head in her hands after she sat in a chair.

"Is there anything I can do to help?" I asked.

"Just be by my side."

"Always."

Gabi looked up at me and rubbed her eye.

"Did you change your hair color?" she asked.

I laughed a bit.

"I did."

"I like it." she said.

"Thanks."

"You young ones have got it made. I can't do anything with my hair."

"No, I could come up with some ideas. Maybe a bit of trim. Oh and some highlights."

Just then, Gabi and I jumped when the door was opened. But we sighed when we saw it was just Gia, the receptionist.

"Gabi, Evie, Adam is looking for you."

"Adam?" I asked.

"The corporate guy." Gabi replied.

"What position is he in?" I asked.

"I don't know. All he said is that the CEO of Elegant Industries sent him here." Gabi replied.

"And he's looking for you both." Gia said.

"Gia?! Have you found them?" a male voice was heard.

"Shit." Gabi muttered.

Adam kind of looks like a guy you would find on a cover of a men's magazine. Short dark brown hair, small beard and probably a bit muscular. A kind of guy wearing a suit and tie that I would probably find attractive when I was still into guys. But being with Mal for over a year changed all that. And for the better I will quickly learn.

"Gabriella, I suggest you go back to your office. I'm sure there are some emails needing attendance too." Adam said.

"Of course." Gabi said with unamusement in her voice.

We felt forced to leave the conference room. Gia returned to her desk, Gabi began her walk to her office, but before I could follow her, Adam stopped me.

"You know, when I was told Gabriella has a new assistant, I didn't think the assistant would be as pretty as you."

"Huh?" I said.

"You sure are beautiful. The name's Adam. You haven't been working here very long. You still have a lot to learn. I would be honored to show you some things. May I take you out for lunch sometime?"

"Yeah..." I said with a nervous laugh.

I quickly walked away to Gabi's office. After I arrived, I quickly walked in and closed the door behind me. Gabi was already there and saw leaning against the door.

"Evie, what is it?" she asked.

"That Adam. That fool. He just hit on me and tried to ask me out."

"What?!"

"Yeah! He made a big mistake doing that. I'm going to tell him that I'm engaged and that should crush his desires to go out with me." I said.

"Wait! You're engaged?" Gabi asked.

"Oh...yeah. I haven't had a chance to tell you because it just happened. Two nights ago, I proposed to Mal."

"Oh my gosh! You did?"

"I did! And she happily said yes."

"Oh, Evie, that is awesome! Congratulations!" Gabi happily exclaimed.

"Thank you."

But just then a knock was heard at the door. Hesitantly, I opened it and saw Adam again.

"Make sure to have those invoices sent out by noon, Gabriella." he said.

"I will! I can easily have it done by then." Gabi said.

Adam flashed me a smile before turning and walking away.

"I don't like him." I said.

"I hate him. He's been up my ass on everyday things."

"Easy, Gabi. Everything will be okay."

Gabi smiled and nodded.

"Yeah."

I wish what I said was true. Because throughout the day, things were just not going good. And I don't feel like describing more on what happened throughout the day, but I will say about one thing that happened after the end of my shift. As I was walking out to my car, somehow Adam met me there at the same time.

"Evie."

"Oh god." I thought after I saw him in the reflection of my car's window.

I turned and saw him smiling at me.

"Yes?" I asked, trying to be polite.

"You didn't really answer my question." he said.

"Which was?"

"May I take you out to lunch sometime?"

"Yeah, here's the thing. I'm already in a relationship with not a guy, but a girl. And I'm engaged." I said.

Notice how I didn't say "I like to but-" or "I'm sorry but-" before saying I'm already in a relationship?

"You're engaged to another girl?"

"I am."

"I don't see a ring."

"Because I haven't got myself one yet. I'm the one who proposed!"

"Yeah and who is this girl that you proposed to?"

"Someone you wouldn't know."

He's starting to tick me off now. Just back off!

"Just one lunch is all I'm asking."

"No thanks. I don't have lunch with strangers." I said.

"But I don't have to be a stranger. We can change that. You and me, baby. When's your next day off?"

I felt a lot of anger when he put his hand on my shoulder. Swiftly, I shook his hand off of me.

"No! And that's final!" I said.

I quickly got in my car and left. Leaving Adam standing there feeling anger towards me, only I'll find that out tomorrow.

[Mal and Evie's home. 2:55 pm]

Mal's POV

Unbeknownst to what was going on with Evie at work, our family and I were having a lot of fun here at home. We played games, watched tv, and I made them ice cream. Ice cream in October, yeah I know, but whatever. It was one of the things we couldn't do this summer together. Basically we were catching up on lost time.

"Evie should be home soon." Carlos said.

"Yes. And I'm so excited to see my girl."

"I'm sure you miss her while she's gone." Lonnie said.

"Oh I do." I said.

And just as we were talking about her, we heard a door open in the kitchen. We all rushed to see Evie. Carlos ran up to her and was the first to give her a hug.

"Oh! Hi, sweetie." Evie said to him as she hugged him back.

The others took turns hugging her with me being the last.

"Welcome home, sweetness." I said.

We exchanged kisses and I led Evie to the living room.

"So how was work? Went by pretty quick, I'm sure." I said.

Evie delayed answering.

"It...it went fine. Just fine." she said.

"That's great! Now you're back and you can have fun with us!" Jay said.

Evie smiled and nodded.

"You know it's almost Halloween?" Lonnie asked.

"Yeah I noticed the stores have already begun decorating and selling Halloween stuff." I said.

"Do you and Evie have any plans?" Jane asked.

"Not that I know of. Have you thought of anything, Evie?"

Evie didn't reply, just sat on the couch. Seemed like she was spacing out.

"Evie?" I said, while patting her thighs.

"What?" she asked, snapping out of her daze.

"Do we have anything planned for Halloween?"

"No. I don't."

"You okay?"

She seemed a bit off.

"Yeah, I'm fine." Evie replied with a sigh and readjusting herself on the couch.

Something didn't seem right. She didn't seem cheerful and happy.

"And Christmas isn't too far away either. You two already celebrated Thanksgiving, but we haven't yet. Not in Auradon." Carlos said.

"Yeah, I'll have to remember that. But secretly, you guys get to celebrate it twice in one year." I said.

"Not everyone can say that." Jay said.

"It is pretty cool." Jane said.

"Do you think we'll be able to celebrate Christmas together?" Lonnie asked.

"I'd hope so. But the problem would be for you and Jane to find a way to get away from your families. For Carlos and Jay, it's no problem." I said.

"Yeah. It would be difficult to get away from my mom." Jane said.

"We may have to webchat." Jay said.

"We'll figure something out. We still got some time." Carlos said.

"Yeah." I said.

Notice how Evie hasn't said anything to any of that? Something was bothering her. And I'm beginning to sense that she doesn't want to bring it up in front of our entire family. I need to talk to her alone.

"Hey! Who would like some hot chocolate?" I asked.

Jay, Carlos, Lonnie and Jane exclaimed in delight. Evie didn't say anything, only smiled.

"I can make us some with our coffee maker and we can sit under the gazebo outside."

"Sounds great!" Jane said.

So we went into the kitchen, Evie included, and I made Carlos, Jay, Lonnie and Jane a glass of hot chocolate.

"You guys go ahead, we'll meet you out there." I said after I finished.

The others happily nodded and went outside. After they left for the backyard, Evie and I were alone in the kitchen.

"You've been awfully quiet." I said as I was making a glass for myself.

Evie lifted her head up from her arm at the island.

"Mm. Yeah. I don't have much to say." she said.

"You okay?"

"Yeah." Evie said with a small sigh.

Obviously something was bothering her. And I'll try my best to make her feel better.

"Would you like me to take my shirt off for you?" I asked.

Evie softly smiled as it made her happy for a quick second.

"That's okay, M. Besides, our family is nearby." she responded.

"Okay, sweetness. You just let me know whenever. Would you like some hot chocolate?" I asked.

"No thanks, Mal. I'm good."

I nodded and gave Evie a kiss on the cheek before heading outside. But something just didn't feel right. I looked out into the backyard, with our family still occupied, I went back inside the house and closed the door behind me. Something was wrong with Evie. She helped me a lot when I was down. Now it's my turn.

As I walked back into the kitchen, I noticed Evie in the living room, sitting down on the couch. I proceeded to sit next to her, wanting her to feel comfort with me by her side.

"What's wrong, sweetness?" I asked.

"After we were talking about your blonde hair this morning, I thought of something. Do you think I should change mine? I know you like the brighter blue. But should I get rid of it? Like how you got rid of the purple?" I asked.

"Well 'get rid of' isn't what I would call it. But I wouldn't, well, shit, get rid of the blue. I love your blue hair. Honestly, I don't know what other color would suit you. Sorry to say blonde wouldn't really look good on you. Can't say I can see you with that. But black on the other hand, I could see you with black hair."

"You can?" I asked.

"Yeah. But don't get any ideas. I love your blue hair. Keep it." Mal said.

"Okay, I will."

We sat in silence for a moment. Because I wanted to see if Evie was going to say anymore, but she didn't. So I know I'm going to have to.

"E?"

"What?"

"What's wrong? You seem down. Did something happen at work?"

"No, Mal! I'm just tired that's all."

"But you've only had a five hour shift. I can understand how a eight or nine hour shift like you usually work can tire you out. But not a five."

"Well a lot happened today. A lot of...physical work. I did a lot to help Gabi in the shorter time I had. Lots of errands to run and papers to fill out. You know, clerical work. So much had to be done in little time." Evie said, but with a little annoyance in her voice.

I figured it was best to ease off right now. I know my fiance, something happened for sure that must have really upset her. I gave her another kiss and left the living room for the backyard. For now, I'll let her be. Maybe tomorrow we can talk.
