Chapter 68: Aftermath
Gohan had successfully defeated Cell and has saved the world from the horrifying Android.
"Look at him."Piccolo remarked proudly. "Saving the world can get a toll on you."
"Hey Gohan, let me ask you something."Krillin said. "Were you holding back your power all this time just to scare us? Boy, it worked!"
Chika bent down to check on Gohan as her twin brother let out a weak laughter of his victory.
"Are you okay, Gohan?"Chika asked with a hint of worry.
"Y-Yeah, Chi."Gohan laughed weakly. "I'm fine."
"Gosh, you guys!"Yamcha chuckled. "I can't believe we survived that!"
"I know."Tien agreed.
Krillin looked at Gohan.
"And don't worry about those bruises, Gohan."Krillin stated. "We'll get Dende to fix you right up! You'll feel like a zillion bucks!"
Yamcha picked up Gohan as the young boy continued laughing slowly.
"I've got you, big guy."Yamcha responded.
"Sorry for the mess..."Gohan started.
Exhausted as he is, Gohan passed out in Yamcha's arms.
"Gohan!"Krillin panicked.
"Don't worry, Krillin."Yamcha answered. "He is just exhausted that's all."
Chika walked up to Minako, who stood near Trunks' dead body.
"What about you, Yamcha?"Tien questioned. "You have a lot of wounds yourself. You sure you can fly as far as the Lookout?"
"Sure."Yamcha replied. "Compared to Gohan, these are nothing but scraps."
"Alright then I'll carry Trunks and follow you just to be safe."Tien stated. "See you there."
"Great."Krillin agreed. "And I'll just grab 18."
This caused Chika, Tien and Yamcha to look at Krillin when he said that.
"Why do you wanna get 18, Krillin?"Chika questioned with a frown. "She's one of the Androids."
Krillin chuckled nervously as a blush crept up his face.
"Well, she is a victim of Cell!"Krillin declared. "So we should bring her along!"
Krillin rushed to get Android 18 as Chika, Yamcha and Tien glanced at each other.
"Let's hit the sky, Piccolo."Yamcha insisted.
"You guys, go on."Piccolo insisted.
Yamcha carried Gohan, Tien carried Future Trunks and Krillin carried Android 18 as Chika and Minako flew away with them.
Minako glanced at Chika.
"Do you think the Dragon Balls will work?"Minako asked.
"Mina, don't worry."Chika responded gently. "They will work and Trunks will come back again. Don't worry."
Minako nodded and wiped the tears in her eyes.
"O-Okay."Minako answered.
As the group headed back to the Lookout, Piccolo spoke to Vegeta.
"That was brave what you did."Piccolo stated.
"You can save your applause."Vegeta retorted. "Now go on. I don't need anybody's help."
Piccolo smirked. "Your call."
Then Piccolo flew away in the sky to follow after the others.
"He has beaten me completely."Vegeta thought. "First by his own actions and then through his son's. What is left for me here?"
Vegeta looked quietly at the damage that has been previously done during the fight against Cell.
"How could you die like that?"Vegeta demanded in a frustrated tone and clenched his fists. "How Kakarot? I'll never have the chance to prove my strength against you! You died without fear! What does that make of me?!"
Vegeta suddenly stopped clenching his fists as his anger lowered down, feeling a change in his personality.
"I am no warrior and I will never fight again."Vegeta admitted firmly.
At the Lookout...
Yamcha, Tien, Krillin, Chika, Minako and Piccolo arrived at the bottom part of the Lookout, only to be greeted by Yajirobe and Korin.
"Way to win one for the team."Yajirobe declared.
"Yajirobe?"Krillin said in confusion.
"I was on my way to meet you guys, but my plane broke down!"Yajirobe lied. "I really wanted to help!"
"Aw, such bad luck."Tien commented.
"Funny that it only happens to you."Krillin commented.
The group headed to the top of the Lookout to see Dende as Yajirobe watched them go.
Dende rushed up to the Dragon Team.
"Gohan!"Dende called out.
"So you must be Dende?"Yamcha asked.
"Yes."Dende answered with a nod. "Please, put him down."
"You bet."Yamcha agreed.
Chika watched quietly as Yamcha placed her twin brother and Dende started healing him.
Soon Gohan opened his eyes and saw both Dende and Chika staring at him.
"Gohan, hey."Dende greeted.
"Dende?"Gohan asked.
"The one and only, Gohan."Chika chuckled and looked at Dende. "It's been a while. Hasn't it?"
"Yes, it has been a while."Dende agreed and then he looked down. "I mean I'm really sorry about your father, Gohan and Chika."
Gohan stood up and looked at Dende with a smile on his face.
"Don't be sad."Gohan responded with a smile. "His not. He told me himself, when I was talking to him."
"Dad talked to you, Gohan?"Chika asked with a surprised expression.
"Right."Gohan agreed with a nod. "I felt his energy all around me and I swear for a moment I could've touched him. He was right there with me by my side giving me advice and routing me on. That's how I was able to beat Cell. Our dad helped me, Chi."
"That's really cool."Chika responded softly.
"Well, Gohan."Piccolo spoke up. "Whatever it was, you made us so proud."
Gohan blinked as Piccolo placed his hand on his head.
"You sure have gotten stronger, kid."Piccolo stated with a hint of pride.
Gohan smiled at Piccolo as Chika looked at the sky.
"Dad...thank you for helping Gohan finish off Cell."Chika thought gratefully.
After healing Gohan, Dende healed Android 18 causing the female android to open her eyes.
"Awake at last."Krillin said in relief.
"Dende, get away from her!"Yamcha shouted. "She'll punch a hole right through you!"
Android 18 immediately stood up and looked around.
"Nobody is going to kill nobody."Krillin reminded and looked at Android 18. "Hey, we can put the past behind us can we? Now that Gohan beat Cell, we can all be friends."
"Gohan did?"Android 18 said in surprise.
"You bet he did!"Yamcha shouted. "Gohan is incredibly strong! So you can forget about punching holes on anyone!"
"Quit shouting."Minako retorted. "You don't have to stand all the way there."
"You should thank Krillin, 18."Piccolo insisted. "He stayed at your side the whole time after Cell spat you out."
Android 18 looked at Krillin with a stunned look causing the small man to blush a little.
"Well, well, it was nothing really!"Krillin assured nervously. "I mean I couldn't leave you there!"
"I got it!"Gohan declared in realisation. "Krillin! You have a crush on Android 18, don't you?"
This caused Krillin to whack Gohan on the head while Chika covered her mouth while laughing lightly.
"Thanks, Mr Smooth!"Krillin muttered.
Yamcha, Tien and Minako were shocked at Gohan's revelation.
"What?!"Yamcha said in disbelief. "How could you?!"
"You do realise-"Minako started.
"She's an Android, right?"Tien finished.
Krillin, Gohan and Chika laughed lightly while Android 18 frowned at them.
"Expect me to fall at your feet now?"Android 18 scoffed. "Big strong boy rescues me and I am his forever, right? Not that easy. I was wrong about you, Krillin."
As soon as Android 18 was done talking, she took off and flew away.
"That ungrateful!"Yamcha snapped angrily as he rushed forward. "I can't stand that Android! I'm gonna show her!"
"I'm not so sure you can do that."Tien commented.
"We have wasted enough time here."Piccolo declared. "Let's hurry up and summon the dragon so we can start doing all the damage that Cell has done."
Mr Popo nodded. "Yes, of course."
"Yeah!"Chika remarked excitedly. "That means we can bring Trunks and everyone else back!"
Gohan smiled at Krillin.
"Don't be sad, Krillin."Gohan responded. "You have plenty of friends here. So you won't need a girl."
"Leave me alone."Krillin sobbed in heart break.
Minako sneered mischievously, knowing Krillin was upset that he didn't have a girlfriend.
The group gathered the Dragon Balls and Dende stepped forward.
"Eternal dragon."Dende said. "By your name, I summon you forward. Shenron."
Everyone covered their eyes by the light and Shenron appeared in the sky.
"I'll never get tired of seeing him."Tien admitted.
"Tell me about it."Yamcha replied.
"Fabulous work, Dende."Mr Popo commented. "The new dragon you made looks flawless."
"Thanks, Mr Popo."Dende answered.
"Choose your words carefully as you speak."Shenron instructed. "I can make two of your wishes true."
"Oh wow."Gohan said in awe. "It worked. Dende made it so the Earth dragon will grant us two wishes."
"Shenron revive everyone that were killed by Cell!"Yamcha ordered.
"Your wish will be granted."Shenron declared.
Shenron's eyes glowed red as Minako rushed over to Trunks to hug him when he opened his eyes.
"Trunks!"Minako cried in joy and hugged Trunks. "Your back!"
"Whoa, Mina."Trunks chuckled with a small smirk. "It's alright."
Chika smiled at Minako, feeling happy that she wasn't sad anymore now that Trunks was alive again.
"As I feared."Piccolo declared as Minako and Trunks came forward. "Since Dende created a new Earth dragon, I was hoping Goku can be revived. But this dragon was made by the same model as the old one. So the powers must be linked, I don't sense Goku's energy."
"It is a shame."Tien said quietly.
"What is your second wish?"Shenron asked. "I am waiting for it."
"Listen!"Yamcha called out. "Can't you use our second wish to revive Goku? All of us really want him to come back!"
"That wish makes no difference to me."Shenron declared. "Goku has been revived before. So it isn't possible."
Yamcha looked at the Son twins and his other companions.
"It looks pretty hopeless."Yamcha complemented.
"No, there has to be another way."Tien insisted. "Just think."
"What if we can ask him to turn back time just before Goku died?"Krillin insisted. "Then we can prevent it from happening."
"Great idea!"Yamcha agreed. "Lets do it!"
"Hold on a second."Minako scowled with a frown. "That also means we have to deal with beating Cell all over again."
"Oh."Yamcha and Krillin said in shame.
"I have an idea."Dende remarked. "All we have to do is ask Porunga back in Namek."
"Dende is right."Piccolo answered. "Because Porguna is the original dragon that can revive a person anytime he sees fit."
"Oh yeah."Tien replied in realisation. "That's how me and Chiaotzu came back alive."
"All we have to do is get ourselves to Namek."Krillin insisted.
"Then we all agree, right?"Yamcha asked. "That will be our second wish."
"Hey."A familiar voice spoke up. "Don't I get a second in this?"
This caused Gohan, Chika and everyone else to look up in the sky.
"Hi, everybody!"Goku called out. "It's me!"
"Goku?"Krillin asked.
"Daddy?"Chika said in surprise.
"See I told you, Chi!"Gohan remarked.
"King Kai is letting me talk to you from the other world."Goku exclaimed. "So listen up. Lately, I've been always thinking about why the Earth is always in danger and I realise most of the guys that attacked were after me. Think about it. Frieza, Cell, the Androids..."
"It's an interesting point."Tien commented.
"Yes, but where is he going with this?"Yamcha questioned.
"Well, I think it would be better for the Earth if I didn't come back this time."Goku declared. "King Kai agrees with me."
"Sort of."King Kai answered.
"As a Saiyan baby, I was sent to Earth to destroy it and although all my life, I tried to do the opposite it's kinda like I've been fulfilling my mission along."Goku stated. "So yeah. I am going to stay here. I really don't mind. King Kai said I could get special treatment cause I saved the Earth and all. I'll be able to keep my body and there is a lot of interesting people to me. It will be fun."
Chika became quiet at the words that she just heard as she realised the meaning.
Her father didn't want to come back home.
He wanted to remain dead.
"King Kai could ask one of the dragons to revive him, but he has agreed to show me around here for a while and keep me company."Goku explained. "I guess what I am trying to say is I really appreciate your feelings towards me, but your going to have to wish for something else. This is my home now. Gohan and Chika are both so strong, I have nothing else to teach them."
"But doesn't mean we don't need you!"Gohan protested.
"You guys better take notes on everything that has happened in your lives because when their through I wanna hear all about them."Goku declared. "Until then, bye..."
"Goku..."Krillin said quietly.
As soon as Goku's voice wasn't heard anymore, Chika looked down as a little tear rolled down her cheek.
"You know even though he was saying goodbye, it didn't make me too sad because he was so cheery about it."Krillin admitted.
"Yeah."Yamcha agreed. "Goku has been that way since he was little. It's like nothing has ever got to him. He always had that goofy smile on that face. Guess that's just him."
"Your right."Tien replied. "And with each new adventure, he always left behind."
"Goku has and always will be Goku."Piccolo added. "He gave me a Senzu Bean when I was trying to kill him. Even like a villian like me, he always assumed the best. Nothing can take that from him."
Chika looked at Piccolo with a surprised expression as Gohan smiled at the sky.
"Dad, I know what I will remember about you."Gohan responded. "I remember when you were up against Frieza and how you just walked right up to him. And whenever things seemed tough for me and Chika, I think you walking forward like that made us stronger. You've given us so much, dad. Thank you for it all."
"You have one more wish remaining."Shenron reminded. "One wish. Make it. It is time."
"So...does any of you have a wish?"Chika asked.
"I can't never think of a good wish when the dragon is here."Mr Popo responded.
"Me neither."Yamcha answered.
"I'm kind of a lost myself."Piccolo commented.
"Your wish."Shenron repeated.
"If we can't think of a good wish, why don't we think of a bad one?"Yamcha insisted. "I mean wouldn't it be cool if we were all filthy rich? Well, guys?"
Everyone glared at Yamcha causing him to chuckle nervously.
"Do you have a wish or not?"Shenron questioned.
"Yes, I do."Krillin spoke up. "I'd like you to change Android 17 and 18 into human beings, so that they can live their lives in peace."
"That wish cannot be granted now."Shenron declared. "It is beyond my power."
"Sorry, guys."Krillin apologised. "I had to try."
"Hey, look."Yamcha said. "No prob. The girl is cool, but her boyfriend I never wish that guy back."
"Sure, haven't we already tried?"Piccolo asked. "We all wished for Cell's victims back, right? And he was one of them. Besides what would Goku do, if we were in our shoes?"
"Right. I see what you mean."Yamcha answered and looked at Krillin. "You got the floor, bro."
"Great, I have one more wish."Krillin stated. "Can you remove the explosives out of the Androids' bodies that shouldn't be too hard, right?"
"I can."Shenron answered.
Gohan and Chika smiled as Shenron granted the wish before responding.
"Your wish has be done."Shenron responded.
"Thanks."Krillin thanked. "Thanks very much."
"Your welcome."Shenron replied. "I must go now."
Shenron glowed brightly before disappearing in the sky causing the Dragon Balls to scatter away from the Lookout.
"What's the deal?"Trunks questioned. "Why are you so bent on helping those two?"
"I guess...I guess because I like that girl, guys."Krillin admitted. "Dr Gero made her. She hasn't done anything wrong."
"Gosh, you dog."Gohan chuckled. "You really like her."
"That was very sweet of you, Krillin."Chika giggled.
Krillin looked at Yamcha.
"Yamcha, sorry about earlier."Krillin apologised. "I didn't mean to do the wish. You had one too."
"Oh my gosh, you didn't know I was joking about that!"Yamcha laughed. "Hey, you didn't think I was asking the dragon for money now, did ya?!"
Tien, Trunks, Minako, Gohan, Chika and Krillin laughed lightly at Yamcha's respond.
"Hey, you like the girl, right?"Tien questioned. "So why did you wish for the guy back too?"
"Well, I know its strange but I want her to be truly happy."Krillin explained. "And those two make a good couple and she would be happy with him. Well, that's why."
"Dude, your hopeless."Yamcha chuckled.
Tien, Trunks, Minako, Gohan and Chika laughed again as Piccolo frowned.
"If that's what you humans call love, count me out."Piccolo declared.
Suddenly Android 18 came out from the building causing everyone to notice her.
"What is it, 18?"Krillin asked.
"Hey, bone head!"Android 18 snapped. "17 is my twin brother!"
"Aw man."Krillin mumbled.
"No! That's good news!"Yamcha remarked. "That guy is her twin brother!"
"That's surprising."Chika said quietly.
"I wouldn't celebrate if I were!"Android 18 retorted with a glare. "If you think you've won my heart with that lousy wish your mistaken! I didn't ask for your help!"
Krillin looked down, feeling completely hurt by Android 18's words.
"But it was really nice of you."Android 18 added softly.
"It was nice?"Krillin said. "You mean it?"
Then Android 18 ran out of the Lookout and flew down back to the ground below as Yamcha went next to Krillin.
"Whoa, Krillin!"Yamcha responded. "You are so in there! That chick dig you I can tell!"
"Are you sure?!"Krillin panicked as he grabbed Yamcha's shirt.
"Like I said she's a girl and I think you have a chance."Yamcha declared.
Tien, Trunks and Minako sweat dropped at Yamcha's respond.
"Stick my advice and you'll be fine."Yamcha instructed. "After all Krillin, it's my speciality. Trust me. Goku may have taught you to be a great fighter, but when it comes to laugh I'm the master."
"There is no comparison."Piccolo stated.
"I heard that."Yamcha warned. "At least your man enough to admit it, Piccolo. Fighting is relatively easy."
Gohan, Yamcha and Chika laughed until Krillin spoke up.
"Man, I wish Goku was here."Krillin admitted. "Nobody can let go of a lad like him."
"Yeah, no kidding."Yamcha agreed. "Celebrating is not the same without Goku."
"Let's no be sad."Tien reminded. "That's not what Goku would've wanted."
"That's true, Tien."Minako responded with a nod.
"Anyway, I need to home."Tien declared. "Peace on."
"Hey, take care of yourself, bro."Yamcha instructed.
"Goodbye, Tien."Gohan remarked.
"Tell Chiaotzu we said hi."Chika added sweetly.
"Yeah."Tien replied with a smile. "Guess what Gohan? Your the man of the house now. So take care of your mum and sister."
Gohan noddded as Tien looked at Trunks and Minako.
"Trunks? Mina? Go show those Androids, what you two are made of."Tien encouraged. "If both of you need help, we'll be there always."
"Thanks."Minako thanked.
Trunks nodded. "You don't know how good it feels to hear that."
"See ya."Tien saluted.
Tien flew away from the Lookout as his companions waved goodbye to him.
"Well guys, I guess it's about that time."Yamcha commented.
"Yeah Yamcha."Krillin agreed. "I guess we gotta get going."
"What's your plan, Trunks and Minako?"Gohan asked. "Are you both going to leave now."
"Nah, I am going to get a good rest."Trunks admitted.
"We'll stay here a bit longer and head back home the next morning."Minako commented.
"Great."Krillin said. "We'll see you two off, okay?"
Trunks nodded. "Cool."
Chika looked at Piccolo.
"What about you, Piccolo?"Chika asked in curiosity. "Are you now going to live here?"
"Yeah, I think so."Piccolo answered.
"Then we'll come visit, if it's alright with you."Gohan insisted.
"Both of you know it is."Piccolo said with a smile. "I wouldn't miss it for the world, kids."
Gohan and Chika smiled at Piccolo.
"Don't be strangers, Gohan and Chika."Dende commented. "I'm counting on you both to visit. It can be lonely at the top."
"Your going to love it here, Dende."Gohan assured. "Mr Popo is the greatest."
"We'll visit you any time, don't worry."Chika assured with a wink.
Gohan looked at Chika, Yamcha, Trunks, Minako and Krillin.
"This is it, guys!"Gohan declared. "Here we go! This is the beginning for the rest of our lives!"
"Yeah!"Chika chuckled.
Gohan, Chika, Yamcha, Trunks, Minako and Krillin powered up and flew away from the Lookout.
"Trunks, make sure to take a good rest."Gohan instructed. "See you guys tomorrow morning."
"It's been great and fun!"Chika admitted. "Bye!"
Gohan and Chika headed back home with Krillin while Yamcha, Trunks and Minako flew back to Capsule Corporation.
Yamcha and Minako began telling Trunks about how Vegeta completely lost it after watching him die and ferociously attacked Cell.
"My father did that?"Trunks asked. "Are you sure?"
"Yeah, he went ballistic."Yamcha explained. "When he saw you get killed, he went bonkers. He attacked Cell like I never seen him attacked before."
"You gotta be kidding."Trunks complemented.
"It sounds unbelievable but that actually happened, love."Minako remarked.
"Well, I be darn."Trunks said with a smirk.
"See you later, Trunks and Minako!"Yamcha commented.
"Adios."Trunks replied.
"Ciao."Minako responded.
Yamcha flew away while Trunks and Minako made their way back to Capsule Corporation.
Later that Evening...
When Gohan and Chika arrived home, they told Chi-Chi about their father's death and how he did not want to come back.
"And that's the whole story, mum."Gohan stated.
"Dad decided not to come back so that the Earth can remain in peace."Chika explained.
Chi-Chi started to cry that the man she loved was not around anymore as her children comforted her.
"I'm sorry, mum."Gohan apologised. "This is the way he wanted. He told us himself."
"Please, don't be sad."Chika said sadly. "If you are sad, he is going to be sad too."
"So Goku didn't want to come back?"Ox-King asked and looked at Fortuneteller Baba. "What an amazing man he is. Isn't that just like him?"
Fortuneteller Baba nodded in agreement as Ox-King comforted his daughter.
"Honey since Goku chose to stay there, I'm fine about it."Ox-King remarked. "Goku knows what is best everybody always."
Chi-Chi stood up and dried away the tears in her eyes before giving a little smile to her father and children.
Though deep down, she still felt hurt that Goku won't be around to see their children grow up.
The Next Morning...
It was time for Trunks and Minako to say their final farewells to everyone before heading back to their timeline.
Gohan wore a black suit while Chika wore a simple light pink dress with matching flats.
Bulma shook Trunks' hand.
"I'm really proud of you, son."Bulma declared and looked at Minako. "You too, Mina."
"Thanks, mum."Trunks thanked.
Minako smiled. "Yeah, thanks."
Trunks turned to face Vegeta, who was leaning against a tree.
Minako turned towards Chika, who was standing between Gohan and Krillin with a few tears in her eyes.
"Hey, no need to cry, Chika."Minako chuckled as she bent down. "It's not like you're not going to see me again."
"I know, but-"Chika started.
"Relax, everything will be just fine."Minako assured calmly. "No need to worry."
Chika stopped being sad and smiled at Minako.
Minako looked at Gohan.
"You take care of your twin sister, Gohan."Minako instructed.
"I will."Gohan assured and remembered something. "Mina, you never told me. What was I like in your timeline?"
"The future you was a serious and aggressive warrior."Minako remarked and ruffled Gohan's head. "But still had a soft spot deep down like Goku did."
"Cool."Gohan complemented with a smile.
Minako joined Trunks as he started up the time machine and dust started swirling around the ground.
"So long, everybody!"Trunks called out.
"Love you, Trunks!"Bulma shouted with a wave. "Goodbye!"
"Bye Trunks!"Gohan responded. "Bye Mina!"
"Thanks for all your help!"Chika remarked.
"See you guys later!"Minako answered and saluted.
"Later, dudes!"Yamcha replied.
"Bye!"Krillin commented.
Yamcha and Krillin said their goodbyes at the future duo just before the time machine vanished from view.
Both Gohan and Chika suddenly felt invisble hands touch their shoulders, but the Son twins smiled since they knew it was their father's hands and that he was watching them from above the Earth.
