Chapter 8: Rarity Takes Manehattan
Today, or actually this week was going to be a special week for the Mane 7 or rather for Rarity as it is Fashion Week in the city of Manehattan. Rarity was of course joining in on the competition and she was able to have (Y/N) right by her side as her assistant.
Right now, all of the Mane 7 were at the train station as the mares were entering first and (Y/N) came up right behind levitating a scramble of luggage that of course belonged to Rarity. (Y/N) takes a look at all of the Rarity's luggage behind him compared to his and his other girlfriends and gets a slight grimace which Rarity almost notices.
Rarity: (Y/N) dear, you're not thinking about all of that is too much for me to take to Manehattan are you?
(Y/N) gives a forced smile.
(Y/N): N-No. Of course not. I mean you always know what to bring even if it means taking more than what the essentials are.
Rarity: *giggles* See, Applejack. At least (Y/N) understands what exactly should be taken when going on a trip anywhere.
Applejack: *deadpans* . . .Uh, I think that was sarcasm.
Rarity: Still, an entire week in the fabulous city of Manehattan! Plus, all of my very best friends there with me!
Once (Y/N) sits Rarity's bags down to rest his magic for a second, she comes up to hug him tightly.
Rarity: And of course it's very special as I will have my lovely boyfriend there to assist me in making all of the lines that I will need.
(Y/N) chuckles and hugs Rarity back.
(Y/N): Not a problem, Rarity. I promised that I'd help you out after all and I'm sure that even without all of my help you would win Fashion Week as the most creative and beautiful fashionista that you are.
Rarity smiles from that before pecking (Y/N) on the lips. Twilight then walks up to her.
Twilight Sparkle: Of course we'd all come along to support you during Fashion Week, Rarity!
Fluttershy: Not that you'll need it like (Y/N) said. We're sure you'll win.
Rarity: *squeals* I can't begin to tell you how excited I am that you'll all be there with me! However. . . Perhaps I can show you. . .
She floats something out of her suitcase and fans it like a hand of playing cards, revealing seven identical documents.
Twilight Sparkle: What's that?
Pinkie Pie: Ooh, ooh, ooh, I know! A paper fan!
Rarity: No, it's-
Pinkie Pie: A magic trick! You know, where I pick a card and remember what it is and then you put it back in the deck so you can't look at it and-
Rarity cuts Pinkie off by walking ahead of her.
(Y/N): Wait. . . You mean you got us tickets to go see Hinny of the Hills too?! That's one of the popular musicals ever made?! I thought they were sold out! You couldn't have. . . You don't have. . .
Rarity: I could. I do.
A huge gasp of delight came from both (Y/N) and Twilight.
Twilight Sparkle: Oh, Rarity, you didn't have to do that, but. . . since you did. . .
Cheers came around from everypony as it was (Y/N)'s turn to give Rarity a big hug that she returned as thanks for her act of generosity of getting rare tickets.
Pinkie Pie: This trip is fun already! I love jumping up and down! Whee-hee!
When everything was settled, the Mane 7 were able to take the train to Manehattan without any problems at all and they exit out of the train station to witness the big city of Manehattan.
(Y/N): Wow! I've only been to Manehattan for a couple of seconds flying across Equestria, but I never got to witness what the city is like. I've got to say, it's not as classy as Canterlot, but it definitely can take large cities to the next level.
Rarity: You have only just gotten started with the view, darling. Come along, ponies! I found us a place to stay only a block from the train station in the very heart of this glorious metropolis!
Applejack: Hey, look!
What Applejack just took notice of is a theater marquee that displays a singing, blond-maned, tan mare against a mountain landscape.
(Y/N): Seeing that large crowd, that must be the exact theatre where Hinny of the Hills is playing.
Twilight Sparkle: Wow, Rarity! How'd you manage to get us seats for tomorrow night?
Rarity: Oh, I gave some designs to the costume designer, so he pulled a few strings.
Applejack, Pinkie Pie, & Rainbow Dash: Cool!
Rarity: That is what makes Manehattan so splendid and amazing. You do something nice for somepony, and then you never know when they'll do something nice for you!
(Y/N): The exact definition of generosity and the exact definition of Rarity.
Rarity giggles from (Y/N) flattery and pecks his cheek as Applejack spoke up.
Applejack: And even Rarity's generosity leads up to doing somethin' nice for her friends like us.
Fluttershy: Like get us in to see Hinny of the Hills!
Rainbow Dash: Which is only the best musical in all of Equestria!
Applejack: It must be good if Rainbow Dash is impressed. Normally she doesn't even like musicals.
Rainbow Dash: I know. Ponies just bursting into song in random places at the drop of a hat? Who does that?
(Y/N): *smirks* You're about to find out.
(Y/N) says this as he was looking straight at Rarity while Applejack and Rainbow Dash follow his gaze only to see that Rarity was indeed starting to sing.
Rarity: Oh, Manehattan, what you do to me
Such a huge bustling community
And there's always opportunity
To do the friendly thing
Rarity doubles back towards Spike who was grabbing his stomach hungry apparently hungry from the train trip.
Surprise instead with something kind
The food is delivered to a very hungry Spike, but before he can bite down though, a passing bird snatches it away and he glowers after it.
Lo and behold, you may just find
A smile is what you bring
The Mane 7 arrive at the hotel with (Y/N) levitating all of Rarity's luggage and they are greeted by a bellhop stallion pushing a luggage cart.
Luggage Cart: Welcome to the Manefair Hotel! Please allow me to take those bags to your room for you!
Rarity floats up a jewel and places it in his shirt pocket.
Rarity: Only if you'll accept this gratuity first.
Luggage Cart: Oh-ho-ho! I'll get your change!
Rarity: Do keep it all. I insist!
The entire group then decide to take their tour over to ride on a ferry boat for a little bit of sightseeing and Rarity stands alone with (Y/N) at the prow, a pink scarf wrapped around her neck as the two were holding hooves with each other.
Rarity: Generosity, I'm here to show all that I can give
The boat approaches the pony counterpart of the Statue of Liberty, and a gangplank is lowered to its pier so the passengers can disembark.
Generosity, I'm here to set the bar
Just sit back and watch how I live
Up on the torch where the observation level is, several tourists are gazing out over the water, and one of them, a stallion, reaches for a coin-operated viewer at the same time Rarity does. Both react with mild surprise, but she quickly puts on a warm smile.
Rarity: After you.
Tourist Pony: Why, thank you.
She then notices a second tourist stallion, who was shivering at the sudden gust of wind. She decides to do her generous act once more by wrapping it around the tourist.
Rarity: Please, take mine.
Tourist Pony 2: Wow, okay.
Back at the streets, the seven ponies and baby dragon walk down the thoroughfare as images of various gaudy signs float past.
Rarity: Some may say, "Rarity,
Don't be so big-hearted and bold
Treating strangers like they're friends
This town's too big and cold"
The group then approaches a rather annoyed-looking stallion from behind. As he reads his paper, utterly absorbed in the printed words, Rarity runs into him without looking and he drops the paper to give the stallion a withering glare.
Rarity: But this is how I play my cards
I'm not about to fold
Rarity gets an idea and glances to a flower-selling mare at her cart a few yards down the sidewalk. One bloom is floated away under Rarity's control and paid for with a jewel.
Where I see a frown, I go to town
It is tucked into the band of the stallion's hat, prompting him to smile and laugh along with her.
Call me the smile patrol
Rainbow Dash: Oh, Manehattan, what you do to us
Fluttershy: What if you find a Gloomy Gus?
The passenger in one of the taxis at the curb harangues her driver due to a broken wheel on the vehicle. The Mane 7 sees this and Applejack pokes her head out from underneath and stands up, supporting the weight on her back so that the rear end rises clear of the ground.
Applejack: It's no intimidatin' thing
Pinkie gets up close with the cabbie and winks, prompting a smile.
Pinkie Pie: Just be kind without a fuss
The other five trot determinedly toward the breakdown site.
Rarity: Generosity, I'm here to show all that I can do
She plies her magic to set the wheel fragments back in place and knit them together.
Generosity, you are the key
Applejack gets herself clear and the taxi speeds off. As she, Rarity, and Pinkie wave, (Y/N) takes Rarity's hooves and twirls her around elegantly.
Manehattan, I'm here just for you
After that, the rest join in as they all raise their heads and forelegs to the sky.
Just for you
With the song ending, the Mane 7 were back on the sidewalks of Manehattan as Rarity was gazing at a fancy dress on a pony mannequin, seen through a shop window.
Rarity: *sighs* To think my dresses could soon be displayed on the most glamorous shopping thoroughfare of the most glamorous city in Equestria! Oh, it would be my dream come true!
Twilight Sparkle: Is there anything left to do we can help you with?
Rarity: Hm, nothing that I can think of. (Y/N) is going to be helping me with getting the ensembles prepared for showcasing.
(Y/N): I'm more than happy to be your assistant for Fashion Week, Rarity. I wish you guys could see her fabric right now as when I first witnessed it, it was surely to be a winning prize for sure. With some extra help, I was even able to help get the dresses done earlier than usual.
Rarity: Stretchy, but not clingy. Shimmery, but not showy.
Fluttershy: Sounds amazing.
Rarity: There's nothing left for me to do but check in at the runway with my dresses by two this afternoon.
That sentence made (Y/N) raise an eyebrow.
Pinkie Pie: Nope. But that clock over there makes two seem like ten minutes from now.
Pinkie points towards a clock on the side of the skyscraper with the horse-head statue on its roof. Ominously rumbling storm clouds move in and the time clearly shows that it was indeed 1:50. The seven travelers and Spike quickly find themselves caught in a relentless downpour.
Rarity: Oh, my ribbons and threads. And the runway ballroom is all the way across town! If I don't get there, I'm disqualified! TAAAAXIII!
(Y/N) felt a worried for Rarity as he watches her gallop off. Spike then walks up to (Y/N).
Spike: Can't you just warp yourselves there?
(Y/N): Yeah, if I knew where the location was. Just knowing that it's halfway across Manehattan isn't enough especially since this is a big city after all. Come on, let's go find a cab that Rarity and I can take so we won't be late!
Rainbow Dash: I'm on it!
She flies up to a taxi's roof and addresses the cabbie.
Rainbow Dash: Hey, buddy! Is this cab taken?
An irate stallion glares up at her.
Cherry Fizzy: The line ends back there, "buddy"!
Glancing back that way, Rainbow takes note of the ponies lined up at the sidewalk taxi stand many, many of them wanting a taxi to ride.
Rainbow Dash: What? Does everypony in this town want a cab?
Rarity: I'm afraid getting a taxi at this time could prove almost impossible!
Another one rolls up as Twilight steps forward to address the stallion now at the head of the line.
Twilight Sparkle: Please won't you let them have this taxi? They have somewhere very important to be right away!
Businesspony: Not likely! They can get in line like the rest of us!
Here comes a round of loud grumbling from the rest of the hacked-off bunch.
(Y/N): Geez, what stuck-ups! Rarity, why don't I just carry you and we'll be there in no time flat.
Rarity: Chivalrous darling, but you don't know where the place is remember?
(Y/N): *facehooves* Dang it, that's right! And there's no directions in the air either!
Twilight Sparkle: Oh, it's no use! The cab drivers just drive right past to get to the next pony in line!
Or not, as in the case of one who barrels around the corner and parks his hack right in front of the group as they assemble at the curb. It was the same cab driver who they help fixed the wheel.
Pronto: New wheel works like a charm! So now which of you nice folks are hoppin' in?
Rarity needs all of a split-second to get upright and over to the rainbow-striped carriage, ditching her paper that she was using to cover herself from the rain.
Rarity: (Y/N) dear, let's hurry! We don't have time to waste!
(Y/N) was getting ready to join Rarity on the taxi before his eyes widen in sudden realization of something.
(Y/N): Oh no! The dresses!
Rarity: *gasps* That's right! How could we forget the dresses?!
(Y/N) looks at the clock to see that they now have seven minutes and he gets a determined look.
(Y/N): Rarity, go on without me! I'll zip back to the hotel, grab the dresses and make my way to the plaza in no time flat!
Rarity: But (Y/N), you don't know exactly-
(Y/N): Oh, what the heck! I'll fly around asking for directions and get there at the best time that I can, okay?! Just go!
Rarity knew this was risky, but nonetheless she nods and turns to the cab driver.
Rarity: Fashion runway plaza in seven minutes. Can you make it?
Pronto: Hang on!
Rarity waves her friends goodbye.
Rarity: Ta-ta!
And she is gone in a blur of swirling dust while the rest look at (Y/N).
Twilight Sparkle: You remember where the hotel is, right?
(Y/N): Yep! I'll see you girls later this evening!
(Y/N) flies off at a speed fast enough to create a gust of wind pushing the girls back just a smidge. Spike then walks up, having procured a fresh carrot hot dog to replace the one stolen by the bird.
Spike: That was close. Seems like both of them have their hooves full.
At the plaza where Rarity was going to participate in for Fashion Week, she instantly enters the lobby to run up to a bored-looking earth pony mare sitting and typing at the front desk.
Rarity: *quickly* Good afternoon, I'm here for Fashion Week!
Janine Manewitz: Everypony's gathered in front of the runway and about to start, so you'll just have to bring your dresses along with you and store them backstage later.
Rarity: Okay. . . (Y/N), I hope that in the next minute. . . or possibly five seconds that you have the dresses ready to come inside! I can't believe that we forgot the dresses! *fake sobbing* I'm dooooomed!
She collapses onto her knees and flops her face down on the ground dramatically, but not before the alicorn stallion himself walks inside.
(Y/N): Not today, milady!
Rarity looks up to see (Y/N) pull in a rack of covered outfits and she immediately grows a big smile on her face.
(Y/N): I was so lucky that the bellhop at the hotel knew where this place was. I was able to fly them here and I knew that I was on time once I saw you walk in.
Rarity jumps up and gives (Y/N) a hug so tight that he almost had trouble breathing.
Rarity: Oh, (Y/N)! You're such a handsome lifesaver!
She then pecks him on the face a couple of times before dragging both him and the rack of clothes along.
Inside of an auditorium, where a footlight-lined runway has been erected to project outward from the stage. Several ponies in assorted manner of interesting attire are gathered here, and a rack of garments stands at the wall behind them. Rarity hurries in with (Y/N) right behind magically towing her load, and the fashionista voices a relieved sigh.
Rarity: *sighs* We made it! And with seconds to spare! Hello, everypony. Pleased to meet you all. (Y/N), if you don't mind could you take those dresses into one of the backstage rooms that I am assigned to?
(Y/N): Not a problem, Rares.
(Y/N) trots away magically pushing the load away and some of the other competitors that were lined up on the stage were surprised to see that the Hero of Equestria is with somepony like Rarity participating in Fashion Week. Not only that, one of them in particular was eyeing him with bedroom eyes, but (Y/N) didn't notice at all.
?: Rarity, I presume.
The mare that just spoke up stood forward and she was an Earth pony mare with an indigoish gray coat, a pale light grayish amaranth mane and tail, pale light grayish cerise eyes, her Cutie Mark was scissors and spool of thread and she was wearing a pale gray blouse with a ruffled white tie.
Rarity: You must be Prim Hemline, the host of this grand event. How do you. . .?
Prim Hemline: Miss Rarity, how is it that all your competitors are here half an hour early, and yet you arrive seconds before we begin?
Under her stern glare, Rarity can only stammer inarticulately for a moment. However, she gets herself under control with a breezy giggle.
Rarity: *chuckles nervously* Just. . . lucky, I guess.
(Y/N): More "unluck" actually.
Both of them turn to see (Y/N) coming back as he steps right beside Rarity to address Prim Hemline.
(Y/N): Hello. Prim Hemline, correct? Host of Fashion Week. As you know I'm (Y/N) (L/N), the Hero of Equestria. You'll have to excuse Rarity's. . . close to late arrival. We did run into a little bit of unexpected circumstances while arriving such as getting a broken taxi fixed, a rather LONG line of also grabbing a taxi, and having to get situated at where we will staying at Manehattan.
Prim Hemline raises an eyebrow, however she just decides to give a quiet scoff.
Prim Hemline: Very well, if you were there to witness those turn of events I will let them go as an excuse.
(Y/N): Thank you, Ms. Hemline.
She then proceeds to pace around the other who were lined up.
Prim Hemline: Once we're done here, you're to finish setting up backstage, so you'll be ready for your run-through appointment.
She then goes up to both Rarity and (Y/N).
Prim Hemline: YOU show your designs last. We keep to a precise schedule, so let's try to be more than a few seconds early, hmm? Tomorrow is the contest to see which one of you gets to stay to meet top designers all across the city. The rest of you must go home early. So sad.
She flicks her tail at this last sentence.
Prim Hemline: Dismissed!
The contenders clear out in all directions with the exception of Rarity and (Y/N) in which the former gives a nervous look.
Rarity: My goodness, I suppose we should've expected her to be quite strict with us.
(Y/N): She is a famous fashion designer. I mean it is always better to be early than on time as when the last minute hits, it can annoy some people. Don't worry though Rarity, let's work hard to make sure your ensemble becomes number one.
Rarity: *nods* Of course dear.
?: *chuckles* I'm so glad you made it, Rarity!
That female voice with a Valley Girl accent made both of them look ahead of themselves to see another Earth pony mare and she had a very pale orchid coat, a grayish violet mane and tail, grayish brown eyes, her mane is tied back with a light yellow band, a light blue scarf is knotted loosely around her neck, and her Cutie Mark was three buttons.
Rarity: Oh, me too, but everything just seems to keep working out!
Suri Polomare: Don't you remember me? Suri Polomare from the Ponyville Knitters League?
Rarity: Oh, yes, of course, of course! I-I thought you looked familiar, but I couldn't place it. You haven't been back in years!
Suri Polomare: Because I moved here to make it in the big city. *laughs* Okay?
Rarity: Oh, good for you, Sur-
She instantly gets swept up in a tight hug by Suri surprising her.
Suri Polomare: Ooh, it's so good to see you! And now here we are, competing! *laughs* Okay?
Rarity: Yes, yes. Well, good luck!
Suri Polomare: Oh, I don't need luck.
She then turns her attention over to (Y/N) batting her eyes at him a little.
Suri Polomare: And who is this handsome devil that you have with you~?
(Y/N) extends a hoof out to Suri in order to greet her.
(Y/N): Hi, I'm not only Rarity's assistant for helping her out with Fashion Week, but her boyfriend as well. My name's (Y/N) (L/N), it's a pleasure to meet you Suri.
Instead of shaking (Y/N)'s hoof back, Suri did something completely different and started stroking his entire foreleg which made (Y/N)'s eyes widen as he was a little uncomfortable.
Suri Polomare: My, so toned and muscular. I never would've thought that somepony as attractive and robust as you are would come all this way just to help for some competition. Seems like you're one with good tastes in hobbies.
(Y/N): Uhhh. . . Thanks?
Suri Polomare: I can definitely see why you would make an excellent assistant for somepony like Rarity. . . *mumbles* unlike somepony else that I know.
(Y/N): What was that?
Suri Polomare: Oh, it's nothing at all that you need to concern yourself with, handsome. *laughs* Okay?
(Y/N) looks at Rarity behind him and he points his eyes at both her and Suri to tell her to do something. Rarity was not indeed comfortable with Suri invading (Y/N)'s personal space as she stepped up a bit and tried to ask her politely.
Rarity: Um, Suri? I do believe that my boyfriend would like his front leg back, please?
Suri was a little disappointed from that on the inside, but she did let go so that (Y/N) could stand on all four hooves again while giving a smile.
Rarity: Well, if you'll excuse us, we have some dresses to finish up to prepare for our showcasing tomorrow.
Suri Polomare: You don't mind if I take a sneak peek at yours do you? I'm honestly quite curious on what you may have in store to show Prim Hemline.
Rarity and (Y/N) looked at each other with raised eyebrows at that question, but they shrug it off and nod.
Rarity: I don't see why not.
(Y/N): Prim Hemline didn't say anything about allowing other competitors to speak with each other, so sure. You can come look at ours if you want.
Suri Polomare: Thanks. I have some culottes in my backstage area, but so far they're average. Luckily, we'll have time to improve.
In a dressing room backstage, Rarity was levitating some fabric while (Y/N) got her some tea for some refreshments and Suri was just admiring the outfits that Rarity made as they were all in various shades of purple, hanging on the rack. Suri reaches through from behind and pushes a few of them aside so she can get a closer look. What they all have in common, to varying degrees, is a patterned fabric that shimmers faintly in the light.
Suri Polomare: My, your collection is gorgeous!
Rarity: Oh now, I'm sure your collection is equally lovely, if not more so!
Suri Polomare: It's alright, but nothing like this!
(Y/N): Really? You said you had some culottes, right? What exactly are they like?
Suri Polomare: As I said, they're pretty fine if anypony would wanted to look at them, but the thing that they're missing is better accents.
She then turns towards the dresses and get's an idea as she gasps taking notice of the material under Rarity's control that is same shimmering purple cloth that were on the dresses.
Suri Polomare: Actually, now that I think about it, just a touch of this fabric could be perfect with it. Rarity, would you mind terribly if I took a swatch?
Rarity: Oh, not at all! Here, I have loads extra.
Rarity floats one of the bars of fabric that she has over to Suri who eyes it in slight surprise.
Suri Polomare: You're sure?
Rarity: Positive!
(Y/N): If you think a little inspiration is all that you need to improve your ensembles then we don't mind at all. Just make good use of it.
Suri Polomare: Thank you. Both of you. And don't worry. . .
She then turns around to the exit and get's a rather devious look on her face.
Suri Polomare: I will. . .
As (Y/N) was going to help Rarity sort out more of the fabric, he gets an uneasy look on his face as he turns back to Suri Polomare walking away with the fabric in her hooves.
(Y/N): (Hmm. . . She's was kind of eccentric around us. I wonder why. . .?)
Rarity: (Y/N), I'll need some help with stitching some extra pieces. Could you hold these for me right quick?
(Y/N) looks to see Rarity levitating up about six pincushions right in front of him making him sweat, but nonetheless he gives a wry smile.
(Y/N): Of course. . . Even though it will be a little painful.
Rarity: Oh, no need to worry love. The pincushion job is when Spike ever comes, for you all I just need for you to do is just pass me the designated pins that I need.
(Y/N): Oh, okay then. Let's down to business then.
The very next day after a long day of some hard revising, Rarity and (Y/N) were able to get the line of clothes over to the Fashion Runway Plaza a half an hour earlier this time now that they've got knowledge of where to go across in Manehattan. Right now, the two were in the lobby with clerk typing as usual.
Rarity: Hello! We're here half an hour early for my run-through appointment, just the way Prim likes!
The receptionist points towards the end of the lobby where the rest of the designers have already turned out with their best efforts.
Janine Manewitz: Get in line over there.
When the receptionist finally deigns to turn both eyes toward the purple-hued outfits, she breaks out in a genuine smile.
Janine Manewitz: Oh my, that fabric's gorgeous, did you make that yourself?
Rarity: Oh, it wasn't all me, but I had some help from my lovely prince right here.
(Y/N): And it's all going to worth seeing my lovely fashionista get first place during the competition.
Rarity smiles and pecks (Y/N)'s cheek before they both turn to go in line and wait their turn.
Rarity: I'm just waiting to show Prim Hemline the designs. As I've told you before darling, it's stretchy, but not clingy. Shimmery-
Suri Polomare: But not showy. . .
(Y/N): Heh, exactly. Which makes the clothes all the more appealing.
Rarity: Um, (Y/N). . . That wasn't me. . .
(Y/N) was confused by that until the second voice could be heard inside of where the stage was. They both went on through with Rarity pushing up in between some of the other competitors with her eyes bugging out in surprise at what she sees next. . .
On stage, Suri Polomare is seen next to a rack of outfits done in the same shades of purple as Rarity's line and displaying liberal amounts of the special fabric.
Suri Polomare: And the entire line is in the same adorable pattern. It works on everything from skirts to tops to shoes and. . . *chuckles*
Prim Hemline is then seen sitting alone in the audience and clapping to approve of the copied line.
Prim Hemline: Oh, bravo! I've never seen anything like it!
Suri Polomare turns away, only to find herself confronted by a very, very angry Rarity along with her assistant.
(Y/N): You COPIED us?!
Suri Polomare: Whoa. *laughs* Calm down there, handsome. You two gave the fabric to me, 'member?
Rarity: We gave you the fabric for accents! Not for your whole line!
(Y/N): How did you even make those in such a short amount of time?! It took us days to finish the ones we made!
Suri Polomare: Short? Time? Hah! Coco Pommel here took practically forever. Nearly got me completely disqualified.
Coco Pommel was a timid looking female Earth pony who had a light amberish gray coat, a pale light grayish cyan and light opalish gray mane and tail, light cyan eyes, she was wearing a white-edged violet sailor-suit collar with red tie, she had a flower clip in her mane, and her Cutie Mark was a feathered hat.
Coco Pommel: Well, I wanted to make sure you'd win, so I took the extra time to-
Suri get's up in her face with an agitated expression.
Suri Polomare: Quiet! I pay an assistant to sew and get coffee, not talk. 'Kay?
(Y/N): Hey! That's no way to talk to your friend!
Suri Polomare: Oh, you misunderstood. Coco isn't my friend. She's an assistant.
Coco gets a glum look from that which (Y/N) notices making him think that she doesn't get appreciated by Suri a lot. Rarity then turns away with an incredulous little scoff not believing that she literally just got bamboozled.
Rarity: How could this happen?!
Suri zips over and puts a hoof across her shoulders.
Suri Polomare: Aw, sweetie, don't blame yourself. It takes some small-town fillies a while to learn it's everypony for herself in the big city, m'kay?
Hearing that jab made Rarity sob as she bolts for the door to the lobby, straight past (Y/N) and he extends a hoof out in some vain of getting her back.
(Y/N): Rarity, wait!
Before (Y/N) could chase after Rarity, Suri decides to pull his chin over towards her direction wanting to flirt with him some more as she wraps a hoof around him as well.
Suri Polomare: Oh, what's the rush? She'll get over it. As for you handsome, why don't you stay awhile so we can. . . get to know each other~?
(Y/N) get's a disgusted look as he backs away from her and he gives her a glare.
(Y/N): Hooves off, lady! You literally just took Rarity's generosity for granted! Don't you that plagiarism like that is wrong?!
Suri Polomare: Sorry handsome, but when it comes to being in Manehattan, nothing is ever wrong if you don't get caught. Plus, both of you never said that I "couldn't" use for it for my line, so you can't call it plagiarism.
(Y/N): Why would we need to tell you that?! If you already saw the line, I'm sure it would be common sense NOT to copy somepony else's work!
Coco Pommel: Um, Suri. . . He's got a point. . .
Suri Polomare: Quiet! I never asked for your opinion, did I?!
Coco shrunk back from this before looking down to the ground meekly. She then turns back towards (Y/N) with a flirty smile.
Suri Polomare: I could definitely use somepony as stunning as you to take credit for inspiration though. You were pretty charismatic to get Rarity to avoid being scolded by Prim Hemline after all, what do you say handsome?
(Y/N): Sorry! Not interested. . . at all! Now if you'll excuse me, I've got to go comfort my girlfriend!
(Y/N) then rushes out of the lobby to go and chase after Rarity and Coco watches before Suri approaches her.
Suri Polomare: Eh, once he sees that they I've won the competition, he'll change his mind. Hope you realize how fortunate you are to have me as a mentor. Now get me some coffee!
The hapless assistant beats it out the door to do what she said.
Back at the hotel, the rest of the mares were just arriving back in the room that they rented for the week after having a little bit of fun exploring Manehattan some more.
Twilight Sparkle: Oh, my gosh, what a great afternoon! That was almost too much fun!
Rainbow Dash: Better pace yourself, 'cause the rest of the day is jam-packed!
Applejack: First there's the salon appointment to get our manes done.
Pinkie Pie: Then our fancy dinner at the Far-Afield Tavern!
Fluttershy: And after that. . .
All five jump up together to scream out the big thing that had them all excited.
Mane 5: HINNY OF THE HILLS!
They all drop onto the floor in a giggling and squealing pile, paying no attention to Spike as he totters across with a colossal armload of purchases and souvenirs.
As they were all enjoying their laughter, a frazzled, and teary-eyed Rarity plods in and Rainbow is the first to notice as she stands upright. Once the other mares notice Rarity's sad expression, they went quiet in a blink.
Rainbow Dash: Is. . . everything okay?
Pinkie Pie: You got the dresses (Y/N) brought you and everything, right?
Rarity trudges mutely past, stopping only when she has reached one of the beds, and throws herself onto it with a full-throated wail.
Rainbow Dash: But. . . (Y/N) said that he could handle it.
(Y/N): I did. And I was able to deliver the dresses to her.
Everypony except for the crying Rarity turn to see (Y/N) enter the doors with a stern expression on his face.
(Y/N): That's not what happened though. Rarity met some mare named Suri Polomare that was also participating in the competition and when she offered her some fabric that she could use for her accents, she decided to take it and just use it for her entire clothes line!
Rarity then stands up and hyperventilates a bit.
Rarity: That's right! Now it looks like I'M the one copying her! My generosity has ruined me, I tell you! *sobs* Ruined!
(Y/N) walks up to Rarity with a smile as he makes her sit up and pecks her on the forehead.
(Y/N): Aw, don't worry Rarity. We can fix this. Now that our friends are here, I think we can help make you something that'll at least be good enough that Prim Hemline will still think is marvelous.
The other mares gave out voices of agreement to that.
Applejack: Come on, Rarity, buck up! All we need is some fabric and you'll be back in business!
The victim of sartorial plagiarism sits bolt upright and looks around herself, taking in the rich fabric of the window curtains and the rug at the foot of the bed. Next she runs a critical hoof over the blanket, her sudden smile telling of the idea that has started to fit itself together in her mind. One eyebrow lowers knowingly, then pops back up as she gasps happily and turns to (Y/N) with an excited look.
Rarity: *gasps* This new line is going to be marvelous! Perhaps even better than the last! It's daring, it's bold! Perhaps I still have a chance after all!
(Y/N) smiles at seeing Rarity back in the mood as he turns to his other girlfriends.
(Y/N): Well in that case, let's get to work everypony!
However, the optimism is not as great as it was earlier as it's now been the rest of the day since the Mane 7 have been hard at work. Twilight, (Y/N), and Fluttershy run sewing machines, Rainbow Dash a spinning wheel, Applejack works at a desk while Pinkie checks over a roll of fabric.
Fluttershy's machine snarls up the cloth she is feeding through it, but she cringes and says nothing, trying to clear the jam as Rarity passes behind her. Her reading glasses perched on her nose, the dressmaker crosses the room while levitating a few rolls of material and stops near Pinkie and Rainbow. The pink pony has taken a break to play with the ball of yarn she has built up by unraveling the carpet, but she and Rainbow quickly get back to work.
Rarity's next stop is Applejack's station as the workhorse has been folding up pieces of cloth and stacking them in a basket. Rarity lets her load drop on the desk and floats the finished batch away. Finally she reaches (Y/N) and Twilight working on a machine together.
Rarity: Twilight! (Y/N)! Sew these pieces together according to that pattern there!
Twilight Sparkle: You said if we skipped dinner at the Far-Afield Tavern, you'd order a meal for us while we keep working.
Rarity: Don't fret. It'll be here in an hour. That's not going to be a problem, is it?
Rainbow Dash: Well, we're supposed to be watching Hinny of the Hills by then. . .
Rarity gets a little snippy when Rainbow stated that.
Rarity: Oh! I see! I go out of my way to get you tickets for a show, and this is how you repay me? By abandoning me in my hour of need?
(Y/N): Now Rarity, there's no need to get uptight. We're just wondering how exactly are we going to have the extra plans that we had if we stay here. Can't you rearrange our reservations?
Rarity: Oh, oh! I get it, (Y/N)! After everything that I've done for you and even allowed you to be my faithful assistant in getting me into Fashion Week, you care more about Hinny of the Hills than seeing your own girlfriend succeed!
(Y/N): I never said that! Heck, I wasn't even trying to imply it! Of course we're going to stay and help, it's just do you have a Plan B for those special activities that the rest of us were excited to see. If you say no, then we won't be-
Rarity then gets up in (Y/N)'s face angrily to interrupt that last part.
Rarity: Won't be at the show?! Of course not! Tomorrow morning when you come to see my fashion show without any fashion to show, you can have more entertainment! "Oh, why look, there's my beloved Rarity going down in FLAMES! Isn't friendship MAGIC?!"
(Y/N): Rarity. . . Chill out. . . What is the matter with you?
Rarity: What the matter with YOU?! I drag you all the way here just for you to abandon me?! What do I pay you for, (Y/N)?!
Rarity: Oh, forget it! Go see the show with the rest of your girlfriends, (Y/N)! You heard Suri! Everypony for herself in this city!
With a stomp of both front hooves against the floor for vicious emphasis. A burst of magic hits the door just in time to open it as Rarity gallops out, then slam it behind her.
(Y/N) was still just trying to process what Rarity just said to him as even if she was stressed, he didn't like the way that she spoke to him like that. He groans before he turns around with an annoyed look towards the beds as he leans on one. The five other mares trade a round of perplexed glances before turning gloomily back to (Y/N).
Twilight Sparkle: . . .(Y/N)?
(Y/N): *sighs* Let's just get this over with. . .
Everypony then went back to their respective jobs as (Y/N) continued organizing for Rarity while she was having a breakdown.
The very next morning, the mares were finally finished as Twilight and Applejack just got finished adjusting the collar of a new outfit on a mannequin. Everypony had very tired looks with bags under their eyes and that included (Y/N) as well.
(Y/N): Is that the last of them. . .?
Twilight Sparkle: Yeah, I think so.
Rarity: Finally!
She instantly races past all six of them taking the last dress on the mannequin dragging along the rest of her new set of dresses on a rack and the mares glare after her.
Twilight Sparkle: *sarcastically* You're welcome!
Rarity: (Y/N) dear, let us be off! We don't have time to waste!
(Y/N) looks back at his girlfriends before he looks to the ground for a second and he gets a stern look.
(Y/N): . . .No. You can go on without me.
Rarity's eyes widened in shock from that.
(Y/N): Last night, all you did was scream and yell at us, specifically me for just asking you a simple question. Yes, we wanted to see Hinny of the Hills, but you could've just said that you cancelled it. We wouldn't really have a problem with it. We would be disappointed, but it wouldn't be as big of a deal as not getting to see you succeed. You just kept ordering us around throwing random accusations at us!
Rarity then gets a guilty look on her face as (Y/N) was right.
(Y/N): Sorry, Rarity. You're on your own for this one. Not after the things you said last night. Let me tell you this though, generosity also comes in the form of appreciation, not demand for something you want or need.
Rarity then looks at the time and knowing that she didn't have much time before she needed to get to the plaza, she just runs off with no response. In the halls, some tears did fly out of her eyes that (Y/N) declined to help her out this time.
Rainbow then flies up to (Y/N).
Rainbow Dash: I know Rarity can get a little dramatic at times, but don't you think that not going to help her with the show seems a bit much?
(Y/N) looks down to the ground and shakes his head slowly in slight guilt.
(Y/N): Well. . . Yeah, I suppose. I may have been strict on her, but I wasn't trying to be mean.
Twilight Sparkle: Yeah, you did make a point though. She didn't really show any appreciation for what we did for her while making the new dresses.
Fluttershy: Maybe she'll thank us after the show?
(Y/N): Maybe. I just hope she thinks about what I said though.
Applejack: *yawns* The show don't start till another hour y'all. Let's get some extra sleep in while we can and then we'll make our way there.
(Y/N): *yawns* You're right, AJ. Let's get a little bit of rest.
At the Fashion Runway Plaza's auditorium, the place is now packed, and Prim Hemline and Suri Polomare stand at the end of the runway as mares dressed in the latter's purple-themed outfits strut their stuff and flashbulbs pop here and there.
Prim Hemline: Let's have another round of applause for Suri Polomare's amazing collection.
The crowd obliges as Suri waves to acknowledge the accolades.
Prim Hemline: That fabric! So original!
She and Suri touch hooves before the latter turns to head backstage where Rarity is watching and lets off a weary, frustrated sigh. Coco, looking very much down in the mouth, follows her boss into the wings.
Suri Polomare: *chuckles* Well look who's here. Here to show off your copycat collection, mm?
She lets off another venomous chuckle and Rarity just rolls her eyes at her taunt.
Suri Polomare: So, where's your handsome hunk of an assistant? Figured he'd be right beside you during this time to acknowledge how you should've thought twice about giving me that fabric.
Rarity: You won't find him. . . He's gone. . .
Suri Polomare: He ditched you? Hah! Figures. Probably had enough out of you to begin with. He should've just accepted my offer while he was here.
Rarity raises an eyebrow from this.
Rarity: Wait, what offer?
Suri Polomare: I asked if he wanted to be known for making the designs right with me on stage. Not a surprise though that he declined it so quickly, but it's even more surprising now that he abandoned you. *chuckles* Maybe the next time I meet him, he'll definitely have to be a better assistant for me than this small piece of junk.
Suri Polomare: Anyways, good luck. You're going to need it. Coco! Coffee now!
She said that with arrogance as she walks off with Coco rushes right ahead of her.
Prim Hemline: And now, Rarity from Ponyville with her brand new line – and I mean "brand new" – Hotel Chic.
The drapes on the stage are reeled back to expose a mare wearing a blue-green dress, with edging and shoes in a darker shade, a cocked magenta hat that bears a striking resemblance to a lampshade, a belt hung with keys, and a bar of soap hung around her neck.
The audience murmurs and claps its approval, with Hoity Toity, Sapphire Shores, and Photo Finish in attendance, and the model advances haughtily along the runway as more appreciative sounds are heard. Right behind her is another one whose magenta and gold outfit could only have been made from the room's curtains and as the other models take their turns, Rarity smiles and pulls in a barely audible gasp.
Rarity: Oh! They're liking it! I think I may have just won this thing! Oh, I can't wait to celebrate with. . .
Elation shifts into worry in less time than it takes to drop a stitch as Rarity looks over to see that there was an empty spot in the middle of the audience that was meant to be for her friends.
Rarity: . . .My friends. My darling boyfriend. They didn't come. . . What have I done?
She dips her head sadly as the flashbulbs start to pop again and the crowd cheers vociferously. As she was still in guilt though, Prim Hemline walks to her with a proud smile.
Prim Hemline: Rarity, they all adore you! Aren't you going to tell them about your fabulous pieces?
Rarity acts as if she has not heard a word of this praise and she stills stares at the empty seats that belonged to her friends. On the velvet rope that was hanging in front of their seats, a rainbow-hued gleam of light passes from one end to the other.
Suddenly, Rarity's eyes had the same rainbow glow as well as she just discovered the true meaning of her Element of Harmony.
(Y/N) (In Rarity's Mind): Generosity also comes in the form of appreciation, not demand for something you want or need.
Hearing (Y/N)'s voice in her mind finally made Rarity realize her mistake.
Rarity: I have to go.
She gallops away, prompting a shocked gasp from Prim Hemline and a moment later, and she has plowed a model aside and leaped off the runway's end. Shocked murmurs came from the crowd as Prim Hemline walks up to the edge of the runway.
Prim Hemline: Come back at once! This is unheard of!
Back at the hotel's front entrance, Rarity gallops up and slows to a walk as the bellhop pushes a heavily overloaded luggage cart toward the curb.
Luggage Cart: How do you do, ma'am? Contest going well?
Rarity: No time to talk. I have to find my friends!
Luggage Cart: Oh, uh, they're gone already. I saw them headed out this morning.
Rarity: Oh, no! Back to Ponyville, I imagine. Oh, they worked so hard on my behalf! And I repaid them with unkindness. (Y/N) was right. . . I guess I should've had some appreciation especially for him since he helped me out the most. What have I done?!
She gallops way only to stop short and floats two small, misshapen gems back toward the bellhop.
Rarity: Oh. . . here you are.
Luggage Cart: But miss, I-I didn't do anything!
On the end of this, thunder rumbles overhead and the rain wastes no time in following it down.
Rarity trudges disconsolately along a sidewalk, her mane now a waterlogged mess, and eyes her reflection in a puddle before a stallion splashes through it at a rushed gallop. A taxi rolls past, its driver paying her no mind.
Rarity: Oh, Manehattan, what have I done?
The thought of Fashion Week was fun
She then gazes in at the decked-out mannequin on display.
But I went way too far
My friends gave to me in ways so kind
Images of the other six and Spike fade into view, gladly touching up the dress.
And I gave them nothing but a hard time
And now alone I stand
And now alone I stand
Seeing that her friends were no longer in Manehattan, Rarity decides to go back to the plaza's lobby and she rings the bell on the front desk to get the receptionist's attention.
Rarity: I need a moment with Prim Hemline. I have to rush back to Ponyville, but I just wanted to thank her first for-
Behind her, a door opens and Suri Polomare emerges from it along with Coco Pommel.
Suri Polomare: Uh-uh-uh, you'd best steer clear of Prim for a while. She's pretty furious. Isn't that right?
Coco Pommel: Um. . . yes.
Right behind these two, the doors open again and the rest of the Mane 7 enters, in high spirits. Pinkie cranks off a big squeaky grin, and Rarity cannot help but smile in response.
Rarity: There you all are! I can't believe it, I thought you went back home!
(Y/N): Sorry, that was our fault. We missed most of the show because we overslept. We were actually looking for you. . . We have bad news though.
Twilight Sparkle: Suri told us you lost. I'm really sorry.
Suri throws her rival a smug little smile, but Coco does not copy it and keeps her eyes averted.
Rarity: I lost? You know what? I don't even care. I'm just happy you're all still here after how I treated you. Taking advantage of your friendship the way I did. How could you ever see past it?
Rainbow's eyes pop open at this.
Rainbow Dash: Wow, Applejack. I know your thing is honesty, but come on!
(Y/N): Speaking of which, I guess I should apologize a little bit too. It felt like it was a bit much to leave you behind like that even though I was kind of mad at you.
Rarity smiles before she just hugs (Y/N) and he returns it with a smile of his own.
Rarity: You had every right to be mad at me, (Y/N). You were the one who helped me out the most with this entire thing and last night I said some pretty awful things to you. Can you forgive me?
(Y/N): I already have, Rares.
(Y/N) pecks Rarity on the lips making her giggle and Twilight walks up to her.
Twilight Sparkle: Last night we may not have seen you at your best, but we know you. And we would never let one thing like that change how we feel about you.
A group hug begins to coalesce during the end of this line and soon draws in all seven of them for a moment. Rarity had a little bit of tears in her eyes from this.
Rarity: Oh, thank you! You really are the most wonderful friends a pony could have!
After that, all of the Mane 7 and Spike walk out of the plaza together and all of the rain had stopped once they stepped outside.
Rarity: You know, I already arranged to make it up to you this afternoon! Hope you're all available for an exclusive performance of Hinny of the Hills!
Suri Polomare: And that is how it's done. Pretty clever how I convinced her to stay away from Prim, wasn't it? *chuckles* Wouldn't have wanted her to find out the truth now, would we?
Her glare towards Coco sends her turning morosely toward the ground in guilt. However, a voice suddenly rings out in front of both of them.
(Y/N): What was that about knowing the truth?
Both of them look to see that (Y/N) is front of them with a serious glare on his face.
(Y/N): Yeah, well I don't feel the same way! I overheard you say something about convincing Rarity to stay away from Prim Hemline. What exactly is this truth you're referring to?
Suri Polomare: Oh, it's no big deal. Now that she's gone, I'll be declared winner for Fashion Week.
(Y/N)'s eyes widen from this as Rarity must've won instead and Suri tricked him, Rarity, and his other girlfriends into believing that she lost and Prim Hemline was actually looking for her.
(Y/N): You mean to tell me that you're not the winner either and Rarity actually won the competition?!
Suri Polomare: Well, not for much longer. Figured if I told Prim that she left, she'll take it as a forfeit and pass it over to me.
(Y/N): Are you serious?! How low can you sink just for some lousy award?!
Suri Polomare: *giggles* I'll take that as a compliment.
Coco Pommel: . . .I don't think that was meant to flatter you.
Suri glares at Coco making her flinch as she gets up in her face irritated from her response.
Suri Polomare: Can't you keep your trap shut for just one minute?! Ugh, why do I even bother to keep you around? You're useless!
Coco Pommel: S-Suri-
Suri Polomare: Just shut it. Another word out of you and I might have to kick you out of here considering that all you do is nearly mess everything up for me!
Coco looked to the ground and it also looked like she was about to cry from this as her eyes filled up with tears. (Y/N) couldn't believe that this is how Suri treats her assistant as he knew Rarity did it to him back at the hotel, but she would never keep up something like that again. He growls as he gets in between the two and gives Suri a really angry look.
(Y/N): Would you cut her some slack, already?! I don't like the way you treat your assistant here!
Suri Polomare: Listen, you don't want to be associated with her. She's just-
(Y/N): Shut up!
That made Suri Polomare flinch as (Y/N) points a hoof at her.
(Y/N): I may not know her at all, but I can definitely tell you that I'd rather get to know somepony like her than some stupid stuck-up jerk like you! All you've done from the beginning is cheat and yet you still do it even now!
Suri Polomare: Geez, you're a fiery one aren't you handsome?
(Y/N): And stop calling me that! You only like me just because of my looks and I can definitely say that I would NEVER be with somepony like you! And newsflash, I've known Rarity a lot longer than you have and I also wouldn't cheat on her for some. . . lecherous purple witch!
(Y/N) made his eyes glow (F/C) for a split second on that last bit making Suri gasp at what (Y/N) just said to her. Coco was surprised that (Y/N) was actually standing up for her as the stallion himself turned around and extended a hoof to help her up.
(Y/N): Are you alright?
Coco Pommel: Yes. . . Th-Thank you.
Suri then gets a serious look on her face.
Suri Polomare: Hmph. Fine, be that way. Not like I was interested in you in the first place. Come on, Coco! We're leaving and taking the prize while we're at it!
Coco Pommel looked at Suri before back at (Y/N) who was still training his glare on the stuck-up mare. She thinks to herself about how (Y/N) literally just defended her and he knows nothing about her at all. She then stands up and get's the same glare.
Coco Pommel: No.
Suri Polomare: WHAT did you say?
Coco Pommel: . . .I said no. I'm not coming. I've done so much for you and even went so far as to just copy our competitors own fashion line and I still don't get appreciated for it. Not even a simple thank you. Mister (Y/N) here has been really nice to me more than you ever have. So. . . I quit.
Suri's eyes popped wide open in shock from that before she gets an angry look on her face.
Suri Polomare: What do you mean you quit?! I still pay you as an assistant! Remember what I told you, it's everypony for herself in Manehattan!
Coco Pommel: No, it isn't. . . Mister (Y/N)'s girlfriend was generous to both him and his friends and after seeing that. . . I think there's something better for me out in this city than staying with you.
Suri just stares at Coco in shock before her mad face returns once more.
Suri Polomare: Fine! Go! If that's what you think is better for you! Not like I'd want an assistant who can't do what she's told to do all of the time!
Suri rushes back inside of the plaza and Coco looks down to the ground a little guilty, but (Y/N) puts a hoof on her shoulder and gives her a smile.
(Y/N): Don't beat yourself up. You made the correct choice.
Coco gave a shy smile from this.
Coco Pommel: I still have to really thank you for that. Nopony has ever stood up for me like that before.
(Y/N): *chuckles* I just like to see everypony safe and sound. By the way, Suri said that Rarity won right? Does Prim Hemline still have the award?
Coco Pommel: I think so.
(Y/N): Well then, I think there's something that you can do as an apology for lying to her.
Coco Pommel: W-Will they forgive me?
(Y/N): They'll definitely forgive you. I mean, I've already forgiven you.
Coco was surprised from that before she gets a big smile and hugs (Y/N) which he was not expecting.
Coco Pommel: Thank you so much, mister (Y/N).
(Y/N) smiles as he pats Coco on the head.
(Y/N): Heh, no problem at all Coco.
(Y/N) had to explain to his girlfriends that he had to rush to the restroom as an excuse for staying behind and interrogating Suri and Coco. However, he was able to catch up to them in no time and they all went to the theater together so that they could see the musical Hinny of the Hills as it was just coming to its end.
Hinny of the Hills: And I'm a dancing pony!
She takes a midair bow and the actors down below bow as well. They wave to the audience as the music ends and the curtains close and wild cheers came from the Mane 7 as the show was finished.
This show has indeed been an exclusive, as they have the entire theater to themselves, and the hooves pound applause against the floor while Spike's clawed hands clap. Rarity has donned a yellow-trimmed magenta shawl for the occasion.
Applejack: Wow! That was even better than I imagined!
Rainbow Dash: I LOVED it!
She finds herself on the receiving end of six very puzzled stares. Long silence, after which she settles back into her seat with an embarrassed smile and tries to play it off.
Rainbow Dash: Uh, I mean, it was a'ight.
She crosses her forelegs and adopts her best "too hip for the room" pose, prompting a laugh from Applejack and Pinkie.
Twilight Sparkle: How did you ever get them to agree to do an extra performance just for us?
Rarity: Remember my costume designer friend who got me the tickets? Well, I offered to make all the costumes for his next show!
Frowns then came on from the rest of the ponies.
Fluttershy: Um, here in Manehattan?
Rarity: Well, um. . . yes. . . it will keep me away from Ponyville for a while.
Everypony gives out sad sighs from this.
Rarity: But I so wanted you to see this show! And working for this designer is such a great opportunity!
(Y/N) then wraps a foreleg around Rarity.
(Y/N): Don't worry, Rarity. It's all good. We'll just be missing you a lot, so it's kind of disheartening that we'll be separated from you for a while.
Rarity nods with a dejected look on her face, but (Y/N) smiles as he brings her chin up to look at him.
(Y/N): I do have a little surprise for you though.
Rarity: Really?
(Y/N): That's right.
He then flies up to go towards the doors to the theater and opens them.
(Y/N): You can come on in now Coco.
Coco walks inside which brought a shock to the rest of the mares especially Rarity that she was here.
Coco Pommel: Mind if I join you all?
Rarity: Sure. Come on down.
She leaves her seat, Coco takes the invitation, and the two meet near the front-row end of the aisle along with (Y/N).
(Y/N): I had a little talk with Coco earlier and apparently there's something that the both of us wanted to give you.
Coco then surprises Rarity by dipping into her bags and pulling out a trophy, which she holds out. Rarity leans down to get a good close look at the nameplate on its base.
Rarity: This is the first place trophy for Fashion Week. *gasps* With my name on it! But I thought I lost!
Coco Pommel: You didn't. You won.
(Y/N): I found out that Suri told us a lie about you losing and she was hoping that if you didn't claim the prize, then it would count as a forfeit and it would go on towards her.
Coco Pommel: And I guess. . . I lied too. I've worked for Suri for so long, I started to believe that it really is everypony for herself in this town. Until I saw how generous you were with your friends and how generous they were with you. It made me start believing there was something better for me out there. Your boyfriend also stood up for me when Suri was being mean to me and there was no way I couldn't say thank you or not repay him with something for that. So. . . I-I quit being Suri's assistant.
She then smiles as she walks up to Rarity.
Coco Pommel: I also brought one more thing to say thank you
This time, she comes up with a small gift box and passes it to Rarity, who manages a bit of a knowing smile.
Rarity: Hm. I suppose you'll need a job now that you're no longer with Suri. How would you like to work for my friend making all the costumes for his next show?
Coco's smile widens a notch or three from being offered a brand new job that she might just enjoy. Rarity then turns to (Y/N) and walks up to him with bedroom eyes.
Rarity: As for you~. . .
(Y/N) raises an eyebrow from that tone before Rarity suddenly throws her hooves around (Y/N) and started kissing him all over his face repeatedly making him give a nervous smile.
(Y/N): Aw, come on. This ain't a kissing booth.
Everypony around laughs from that as Rarity was still kissing (Y/N) all over the face.
At the Manehattan train station, Spike hoists the group's luggage inside, and Coco gets a round of goodbye waves from the others before they follow him in. They all head back to Ponyville on a beautiful sunny day saying goodbye to Manehattan.
Inside of Carousel Boutique, Rarity was sitting down behind her worktable, writing in the group's shared journal with a quill held in her telekinetic field.
Rarity: (Manehattan was simply grand. It was in this magnificent metropolis that I learned that, while there are ponies who will take advantage of your generosity, you should never, ever let that cause you to abandon your generous spirit. Nothing feels worse than taking advantage of the giving nature of your friends.)
Setting the quill in a nearby inkwell, she floats up the box Coco gave her and sets it on the open pages. When she magically undoes the ribbon, it unfolds to present one item: a spool of rainbow-colored thread. Rarity brings it up for a look, smiles warmly, and moves it along as she steps away from the desk.
She places the thread along with seven others on a shelf that were all the coat colors of herself and her friends. Once she walks away from the shelf, she doesn't notice that a rainbow glow passes on the thread signaling that Rarity has unlocked her key of Generosity.
Chapter 8 End.
