Chapter 69- Skye's New Revenge Plot

Over breakfast, Skye sat silently annoyed as Kendall shared her struggles with Erica to Myrtle. Myrtle assured her that Erica didn't mean what she said and that she'll do everything she can to make peace between them.

"I've just never felt like I fit in with any of them," Kendall said. "Even Bianca wants nothing to do with me. She proved that when she ruined my bridesmaid dress."

"Bianca was only a little girl at the time," Myrtle reminded her. "She was jealous of you and felt you were a threat in her relationship with Erica." She turned to Skye. "Jealousy is a common trait in the Kane and Fargate families."

Skye rolled her eyes.

"I think if the two of you sat down and had a civil conversation you might be surprised," Myrtle continued. "You need a heart to heart."

Kendall scoffed. "Yeah, right. Bianca is seventeen. Don't you know how up and down a girl's hormones are at that age? I don't exactly see us having a civil conversation about this."

Myrtle grinned. "Well, you and Skye and Erica have proven time and again that you can have up and down hormones at any age."

Skye frowned. "Ouch… What are you throwing me under the bus for? This has nothing to do with me!"

"Kendall," Myrtle said ignoring Skye. "I will do everything I can to help you mend your relationships with Erica and Bianca.

Skye was none too pleased at Kendall's sudden sucking up to Myrtle and what was worse was when she joined them in visiting Rae.

"Kendall, dear, you go on in, I just need a word with Skye," Myrtle said.

After Kendall headed in, Skye crossed her arms. "A word? What did I do this time?"

"Nothing, darling," Myrtle assured her. "I didn't have a chance to speak to you this morning. How are you getting on? How did you sleep?"

Skye shrugged. "Okay, I guess. I got about three hours."

Myrtle reached for her hands and gave them a soft squeeze. "You can come to me about anything. We're going to get each other through this. Your mom is very strong and we're going to help her fight this."

When they headed into the room, Kendall was holding Rae's hand and the two women were laughing. Skye pursed her lips.

"And can you believe she even has a painting of herself hanging in her office?" Kendall said. "Not to mention a framed picture of herself on her desk. She doesn't even have one of Bianca."

"That doesn't really surprise me," Rae said. "Erica certainly thinks highly of herself."

"Rae, darling…" Myrtle went to her other side and kissed her cheek. "You're still a little pale, but you certainly look much better than yesterday. How are you feeling?"

"I don't feel much at all. Must be the painkillers I'm on. You know, I saw a herd of pink elephants on the ceiling this morning."

Myrtle and Kendall started to laugh, but Skye looked in utter shock.

"Sweetie, that was a joke," Rae said. "How are you doing?"

Skye shrugged. "I'm okay."

"I have good news. Dr. Wolek says I should be home by the weekend."

Skye gawked at her. "That man doesn't know what he's talking about! I want a second opinion!"

"Skye, dear—" Myrtle started to say.

"I'm going to call Dad," Skye continued. "He'll give you a real assessment and he'll prove Dr. Wolek is crazy! Then you can come home right away."

Skye stomped out of the room.

Myrtle shook her head. "That girl is too much like Adam sometimes."

Rae sighed. "That's not really fair, Mama. She emulates how he reacts to these situations because that's what she learned growing up. We can't really fault her for that."

"I suppose it wouldn't hurt to have Alan come and tell her his opinion," Myrtle said. "Otherwise, she won't believe a word Dr. Wolek says. Just as long as she doesn't go off on him again."

Rae's eyes grew wide. "She went off on Dr. Wolek?"

Myrtle nodded. "Somehow all of this is his fault in Skye's mind."

Out in the hallway, Skye twirled the payphone chord around her finger nervously. "He acts like Mom's condition is fatal and there's nothing they can do. And he won't even let her come home, Dad! He's basically holding her prisoner here."

Alan sighed heavily. "Sweetheart, I have known Larry Wolek for years. He's an excellent doctor. From what you've told me it sounds like he is doing everything he can. I know you want your mom home, but I think the best place for her right now is at the hospital."

"Whose side are you on?"

"Yours, of course," Alan said. "Okay, I will come and examine your mother and look over her ultrasound if that will make you feel better. I'll give you my clinical opinion."

Skye was none too pleased after Alan examined Rae and said he shared the same medical opinions as Dr. Wolek. As angry as Skye was at Kendall purposely making her jealous by getting along so well with Myrtle all day, even offering to do chores and wanting to play Myrtle's favourite card game, she opted to focus on that anger rather than fall apart over Rae's prognosis.

The joke was on Kendall though when Myrtle told them she had two surprise dinner guests joining them—Erica and Bianca. Skye only wished she had a camera when she saw the expression on Kendall's face. Kendall quickly got over it though when she realized this was the perfect opportunity to make both Erica and Skye jealous at the same time. She offered to help Myrtle cook. This infuriated Skye. There was no way she could one-up Kendall… or was there? When Erica offered to set the table, this left Skye and Bianca in the living room. Bianca flipped through Enchantment's latest magazine and Skye got an idea, so she plopped down beside her.

"Whatcha reading?"

"Mom's new magazine," Bianca said.

"Cool." Skye smiled. "So, it's real nice that you and Erica came over for dinner."

Bianca sighed. "I enjoy visiting Myrtle. But I didn't realize Kendall would be here."

"Oh? Don't you and Kendall get along?"

"Not really. I don't trust her that much."

"Well, that's understandable. She is a difficult person to trust, and she doesn't give anyone good reasons to trust her."

"Part of me wants a big sister, but I'm afraid she'll hurt us again."

Skye nodded in agreement. "I can relate to that. She hurt me too."

Bianca turned to her. "She did?"

Skye sighed. "Yeah. She knew I was interested in someone, but she stole him away from me."

"That's sounds like Kendall," Bianca said. "I'm sorry she hurt you like that."

"Thank you… Say, Bianca? You were raised by Erica Kane. You must have some cosmetics expertise."

Bianca shrugged. "I guess."

"Are you looking for employment?"

"I think about getting a job sometimes, why?"

"Then why don't you come work for me."

Bianca scrunched her face. "But Mom said you're a dishwasher at the Palace."

"Oh, that? That's just a side thing until my new cosmetics company picks up. You see, an old friend and I are building it up from scratch. And our sponsors say we need to hire some females. I think you'd be perfect to join us."

"That does sound appealing and I don't really want to work for Mom. But I'm still in high school. I'm only available evenings and weekends."

"That's not a problem at all. I'm a night owl myself, so I don't like early mornings. Even though my mom and Grandma get me up early to do chores… But you can't say anything to Erica or Kendall."

"Why not?" Bianca asked.

"Well, you see, the answer is two-fold. One: It needs to be a surprise. And two: Erica is the competition."

Bianca smiled. "Well, it does sound fun. But I don't think we can top Enchantment. But… I'm in."

Skye grinned. "Great!"

"Girls!" Myrtle called from the dining room. "Dinner is served!"

When they arrived in the dining room, Skye sat next to the window and patted the chair beside her. "Hey Bianca, come sit beside me."

Kendall's face went rigid as Bianca sat next her. She sat across from them and glared at Skye. When Myrtle took a seat at the head of the table, Erica took the only free seat next to Kendall, so Kendall shifted her seat closer to Myrtle.

"Say, Grandma?" Skye asked as they started to eat. "Can Bianca sleep over tonight?"

Erica scoffed. "Excuse me? It's a school night."

Skye rolled her eyes. "Whatever… on the weekend then?"

Kendall gritted her teeth.

"Your mom should be home this weekend," Myrtle said. "I think we should focus on that."

"All right…" Skye sighed. "Well, my next paycheck I'm going to treat you to a day at the spa, Bianca."

Kendall stabbed her roast beef rather hard with her fork.

"You can't afford even one person to go to the spa," Myrtle said in appalment. "Not even one paycheck will pay for it and you're trying to save money for the future!"

"Um, hey! Please don't advertise my salary in front of our guests."

"I do however think it would be good for you, Kendall, and Bianca to go out for lunch on Saturday," Myrtle said. "It'll give Rae a little break and it'll be good for you girls to go out. My treat."

Skye and Kendall exchanged a disgusted look.

Myrtle cleared her throat. "Erica, I believe you wanted to tell Kendall something?"

Erica nodded. "Yes. Kendall, I'm sorry for what I said yesterday. I didn't mean it."

Kendall scoffed. "Oh, please. A coerced apology? That's very heart-felt."

"It is heart-felt," Erica said. "And genuine. Please accept my apology."

"No thanks," Kendall said, then furrowed her eyebrows when Skye whispered something into Bianca's ear making her laugh.
