After wishing her team a Merry Christmas, Hetty called Granger.
'Hi! Would it be okay with your daughter if I came over and stayed for Christmas and New Year's?' She asked.
'I'll ask, but I think it'll be okay. Except she doesn't have an extra guest room. So unless you're okay with sleeping on the couch, I'd advise just staying at your place and just staying for dinner.' Granger responded.
'Okay. I'll drive up now!'
Later on, sitting on the porch
'No offense, dear. But Miss Kim's cooking could stand to have some improvements!' Hetty said.
'I know! (chuckles)' Granger replied.
Hetty saw that he looked more tired then usual.
'Are you okay?' You look tired.' She asked.
'Long day.' He replied.
'You sure? Because if your health is declining…'
'I'm fine! Look, I'm going to have good and bad days, and. I'm just a bit tired today. I'm still well enough to do the mission.'
Silence.
'Okay. I'll take your word for it, for now.' Hetty said.
'Thank you.'
'So, are we going to get together on New Year's Eve, like we've done before?' Hetty asked.
'It's gonna be in this tiny backyard, you sure?' Granger asked.
'Of course.'
New Year's Eve, before midnight
'Why are we really doing this? I mean, Chances are I'll be dead in a few months, you have a couple weeks to save your job. Why should we say 'Happy New Year'?' Granger asked.
'Because it's what people do. And, a new year brings all kinds of new possibilities, even if nothing looks good.' Hetty replied.
'Hetty Lange, always the optimist.'
Hetty laughed.
'So, anything left to say before it's 2017?'
'Yeah. You're an old koot that, despite your grumpy nature, makes me smile, and I'm glad to be with you in this moment.' Hetty said.
'I'm glad you're here as well.'
Then she hugged and kissed him, 'Happy New Year, Owen.'
'Happy New Year, Henrietta.' Then he kissed her back.
Endnote: Almost hard to believe there's only a few more chapters left to go. ;(
