Mission Match Up
Note: Another one of my favorite episodes
(Ayla's POV)
*It's been a day since our last battle. Right now, I was helping Amy in the cargo hold. Just then, my brother came zooming in with a pile of boxes*
Sonic: Hi, girls. *he put the boxes down* Watch this stuff for me, will ya?
*He was about to leave the room, but Amy stopped him*
Amy: Wait Sonic! Uh . . . Do you think Shadow is okay?
*I flinched at that. I could still picture Shadow disappearing in the yellow vortex while in Super Form, along with the Crimson Egg*
Sonic: Don't worry, he's tough.
*He zoomed out of the room*
Amy: Hey! What should we do with this stuff!?
Ayla: Don't worry I'll take care of them.
Amy: Okay.
*I needed to do something to take my mind off Shadow. I just hope that he's alright. Wherever he is*
(Third-person POV)
*In another part of the galaxy, three of the Metarex's main generals were having a meeting (a dark yellow, black robot with emerald green eyes, a light green robot with black eyes, & a black robot with one big black eye)*
Yellow Zelkova: HOW COULD RED PINE HAVE BEEN DEFEATED? HE WAS ALMOST AS STRONG AS ME.
Pale Bayleaf: WHAT YOU AND RED PINE NEVER UNDERSTOOD IS THAT STRENGTH MUST BE BALANCED WITH INTELLIGENCE AND SKILL. YOUR FAR TO PROUD OF YOUR POWER. YOUR STRENGTH IS YOUR WEAKNESS.
Yellow Zelkova: YOUR CALLING ME WEAK!
Black Narcissus: THIS BICKERING IS POINTLESS. WE SHOULD BE FIGHTING OUR ENEMIES, NOT EACH OTHER. WE WILL NOT WIN THIS CONFLICT UNLESS WE ARE UNIFIED.
Pale Bayleaf: WE'RE NOT FIGHTING. JUST HAVING A DIFFERENCE OF OPINION OVER TACTICS.
Black Narcissus: ARGUE OF YOU WANT, BUT MY FOCUS WILL STAY ON OUR FOES. ESPECIALLY ON SONIC, AYLA, AND SHADOW. THEY ARE FAR MORE DANGEROUS THAN YOU REALIZE. THE FACT THAT THEY DEFEATED RED PINE IS EXTREMELY DISTURBING. I MUST LEARN THE SECRET IF THEIR POWER AND DISCOVER THEIR WEAKNESSES. I WILL NOT BE AT EASE UNTIL THOSE HEDGEHOGS HAVE BEEN ELIMINATED.
Yellow Zelkova: I'M TIRED OF ALL THIS TALKING. WHY DON'T WE GO FIND THEM AND FIGHT THEM NOW.
Pale Bayleaf: I WILL NOT BE INTIMATED BY THREE HEDGEHOGS. THEY AND THEIR FELLOW FIGHTERS WERE WEAKENED BY THEIR RESENT BATTLE. THE POWERS AT OUR COMMAND ARE MORE THAN ADEQUATE TO FINISH THEM OFF FOREVER!

*I had just put away the last of the boxes when the alarm went off. I ran to the bridge*
Chris: There's an unidentified spacecraft directly in front of us!
Tails: Have you picked up their ID code?
Amy: They aren't sending any.
Tails: Put a visual on the main monitor, maximum zoom!
Chris: Roger.
Cream: Is it a Metarex?
Cheese: Chao-Chao-Chao.
*The picture on the screen enlarged & a very familiar ship appeared*
Sonic: It's Vector!
*I could see Charmy waving a white flag*
Ayla: This outta be good.
*We all met up in the hanger*
Espio: Not sure how it happened exactly, but we got lost in space.
Vector:*laughing* And there was no place to stop and ask directions!
Chris: You mean you've been lost since you delivered those packages to me?
Ayla: But that was weeks ago!
Vector: Well, outer space is a big place. Plus our warp engine gave out and we didn't gave any jumper cables to restart it!
Sonic: You should've sent out an SOS and we would've picked you up sooner.
Vector: Our transmitter got broke thanks to a certain bumbling bee.
Charmy: It wasn't my fault!
Tails: I can probably repair your ship, but it may take some time and until I'm done, you'll have to wait on board the Blue Typhoon. While you're standing here, I don't want any trouble, okay? Captain's orders.
Espio: No problem.
Charmy: Huh? Forget it, I'm not gonna let you boss me around.
Tails: Fine, then I won't fix your ship!
*Vector put a hand on his shoulder*
Vector: Don't listen to him. I give you my word we'll be on our bestest behavior! And since you're making repairs anyway, why don't you install a multifunctional auto navigational system? That way we can get home!
*We all sweatdropped*
Tails: No problem.
*I stepped up to the Chaotix, who backed away nervously*
Ayla: Remember, no monkey business. Capisce!
Vector, Espio, & Charmy: Yes, Ma'am!
(Third-person POV)
*Later, the Chaotix were walking down a hallway together*
Vector: Tails says he doesn't need help fixing up my ship, but wandering around doing nothing while he sweats away makes me feel like a freeloader. I've been thinking that since Tails is scratching our back, maybe we oughta scratch his back.
Charmy: It's ichy?
Vector: That's just an expression!
Charmy: Sorry.
Vector: We'll repay Tails for what he's doing by helping 'em win the heart of that green gal!
Espio: We're detectives, Vector, not matchmakers. And you heard what Ayla said, no monkey business.
Vector: I've come up with a scheme I call Project Dame in Distress! And once it succeeds, Ayla will be so happy, she'll be giving us each a kiss. Here, let me tell you how it'll work.
*They gathered in a corner & whispered*
(Ayla's POV)
(4 hours later)
*I was walking down a hallway, when I heard giggling. I turned & found Tails & Cosmo standing in the middle of the hallway. It was Cosmo that had the giggles. I went over to them*
Ayla: What's going on?
*They turned to me*
Cosmo: Oh, Knuckles was just telling a really funny joke.
*I was confused. I never really took Knuckles for a comedian. I then heard more laughing coming from behind me. I turned around & looked up. I saw Vector & Charmy standing on the walkway above me laughing. I gave them a pointed look. They looked down, saw me looking at them, & ran away, scared*
Ayla:*in her mind* They're up to something. And where's Espio?
(An hour later)
*I was walking down another hallway, when I suddenly heard a crash. I quickly turned a corner & found Tails & Cosmo in front each other with boxes spread around them*
Tails: Sorry.
*Cosmo quickly picked up her boxes*
Cosmo: Ah, it was my fault! I should've looked where I was going!
*I went over to them as Tails put a small box on top of her pile*
Ayla: You two okay?
Tails: I'm okay.
Cosmo: I'm fine, but I'm in a bit of a hurry. I'll talk to you two later, okay?
*She ran down the hallway. Then Tails noticed a very small box*
Tails: Cosmo must've dropped this when I bumped into her.
*He opened it & there was a light blue flower brooch*
Ayla: It's pretty.
Tails: Yeah.
*Me & Tails were running together when we heard noises coming from a nearby room. We went inside & found Cosmo putting up party decorations*
Tails: Cosmo.
*She turned around & looked disappointed*
Cosmo: Now it won't be a surprise.
Ayla: Why are throwing a party for us?
Cosmo: I know fighting the Metarex can be exhausting, so I thought you all deserved to have a little bit of fun.
Tails: It's not easy to put a party together by yourself. Why don't let us give you a hand?
Cosmo: But you have to repair Vector's ship.
Tails: It wasn't in bad shape. I'm already done. I'm all yours now.
Ayla: And I've got nothing better to do, so I'm happy to help out.
Cosmo: Then I'll take you both up on your offer.
Tails: Great!
Ayla: What do you want us to do first?
Cosmo: Let me see . . .
*Just then, Vector & the Chaotix came into the room*
Vector: Why hello!
Cosmo: Oh, Vector!
Vector: We were passing by when we overheard you talking about the surprise party! If you don't mind, we'd like to help out too!
Cosmo: Oh, thanks a lot.
Tails: I'm not so sure this is a good idea.
*Vector put his arm around Tails' shoulder*
Vector: We're repaying you for fixing our ship, foxy woxy! All we ask is that you and the missus remember to invite us to the wedding!
Ayla: Excuse me?
Vector: Oh! Nevermind.
*Vector then started chuckling in a mischievous way*
Tails: Okay, you can help us if you promise to back off.
*I gave a three of them a suspicious look & then a gesture that said "I'm watching you". All three put their hands up in defense*
*Later, Espio was holding a ladder while Cosmo was putting up streamers, Tails & Vector were working with the wires, & I was making some paper flowers (Helen taught me how) when suddenly, all the lights went out. I looked around & then I heard a crash. The lights came back on & I found Vector & Espio sprawled out on the floor with decorations & a speaker around them*
Cosmo: Are you alright?
Tails: Don't you guys know it's dangerous to run in the dark?
Vector: Even the best plan could blow up on ya . . .
Ayla: And what plan is that?
*Vector got a scared look on his face & quickly stood up*
Vector: Oh nothing. So what else do we need to do now?
*I narrowed my eyes at him as he walked away*
*Later, I was holding the ladder while Cosmo was putting up the paper flowers I made. Tails then came up to us*
Tails: Hey, Cosmo, do you have any more streamers for me to put up? *just then, a handkerchief fell off one of ladder steps. Tails picked it up* You dropped your hankie, Cosmo.
Cosmo: But that's not mine.
Ayla: Well, whoever this belongs to really needs to get it cleaned.
Cosmo: Hey look, something is embroided there.
Tails: V-E-C-T-O-R. Vector, I think you better have this thing disinfected.
Vector:*blushing* Yeah, I'll do that.
*I rolled my eyes*
*Soon, we were all done*
Tails: It looks great, Cosmo!
Cosmo: I never would've finished without your help, Tails & Ayla, I really owe you both.
Ayla: Happy to help.
Tails: You don't have to thank me, Cosmo. I like being with you?
Cosmo: Ah, really? Me too, Tails. It's been fun to work together. We make a pretty good team, don't you think so?
Tails: I agree.
*I was just about to leave & give the "love-birds" some alone time, when suddenly, the mirror ball started bouncing around the room & was heading straight for Cosmo*
Ayla: Look out!
Tails: Cosmo! *He pushed her out of the way & landed right on top of her* You weren't hurt, were you, Cosmo?
Cosmo:*blushing* I'm fine, Tails, thanks to you.
*They stared at each other for a few seconds*
Ayla: Ahem! Uh, Tails. I think you can move now.
*He realized what I meant & let Cosmo sit up*
Tails: Sorry . . .
Cosmo: Oh . . . That's okay.
*I then looked & saw the Chaotix staring at them*
Ayla: Don't you guys have something better to do!?
Vector, Espio, & Charmy: No, not really.
*Cosmo picked up the mirror ball. Tails then started twirling his tails, picked Cosmo up & brought her up to where the ball should go*
Tails: You look like you could use a lift.
*Cosmo put the ball in place*
Cosmo: Lucky for me you know how to fly.
Tails: I've been thinking . . .
Cosmo: What is it?
Tails: Uh . . . Maybe . . . We could do this more often. *I hide my giggles. they were so cute* Time to party! *he pressed a button & the mirror ball turned on* Whoa, wait till the others see this!
Ayla: I just know they'll be surprised.
Cosmo: It's amazing! Now we have to figure out how to get everybody in here.
Tails: What do we do?
*The Chaotix stood in front of us*
Vector: We'll bring all your guests to your surprise party, courtesy of the Chaotix Detective Agency!
Ayla: Glad to see your making yourselves useful.
*All three of them sweatdropped. I decided to go to the kitchen & get some snacks for everyone when suddenly, I heard crashes coming from the party room. I ran down the hallway & bumped into the others. We opened the door & found Knuckles standing in the middle of the room with the Chaotix spread out all around the room & the party decorations trashed*
Sonic: What have you guys been doing in here?
*We all stood in middle of the ruined party room*
Tails: Cosmo wanted to do something special for us, so she was gonna throw us a surprise party. I guess it's off now . . .
Knuckles: Whoops.
*I glared at him & the Chaotix*
Vector: Do you have to cancel the party, hmm?
Sonic: Of course you don't! We don't need any fancy decorations to have a good time. All that matters is we're together.
*I was surprised to hear this. I guess my brother can be pretty wise once in a while. Cosmo smiled at him*
Cosmo: Right, Sonic.
Sonic: Thanks for the party.
*Soon, we were all having a good time. Knuckles had painted on Espio & Charmy's faces for revenge, Amy was showing my brother her new party dress & Vector was telling some pretty funny stories. I was standing by the looking at the stars & holding a glass of punch*
Ayla:*in her mind* I wish you could be here with us, Shadow.
*I then turned & saw Tails & Cosmo looking out the window next to me*
Tails: Cosmo?
Cosmo: Uh? Hi Tails.
Tails: It wasn't quite what we expected, but the party turned out great!
Cosmo: I'm glad everybody's having a good time.
Tails: Oh yeah. Here. *he pulled out the flower brooch* You dropped this before. I polished it up for ya. I hope you don't mind.
Cosmo: I think it's just wonderful! Thank you so much!
*She put the brooch on*
Tails: I was hoping it would make you happy. *he started staring at her & blushed* You're so beau - ahhh!
*He freaked out when he realized what he was about to say. I giggled*
Cosmo: It's true the stars are beautiful. I'm so happy right now, I feel like I could stand here staring at them forever.
Tails: So do I . . .
*I decided to leave them alone. As I headed towards the table, I saw the Chaotix looking at Tails & Cosmo*
Vector: Well whaddya know, my plan to match them up worked after all.
*Hearing this, I slammed my cup on the table, startling them*
Ayla: So that's what was going on!?
Charmy:*pointing at Vector* It was his idea!
Espio: I wanted nothing to do with this! He made me do it!
Ayla: I don't care who's idea it was!
*I punched all three of them on the head. Then we all gathered to take a commemorative photo*
*That night, as I was preparing for bed, my wristwatch started beeping. I answered it*
Ayla: Hello?
Shadow:*off-screen* Ayla?
*I was surprised to hear his voice*
Ayla: Shadow! Where are you!? Are you alright!?
Shadow:*off-screen* I'm fine. Listen, I'm staying with Eggman for a little while.
Ayla: Eggman? Are you sure?
Shadow:*off-screen* Yes. This way we can keep an eye on him. I'll meet up with you and the others soon.
Ayla: Shadow! Wait, don't -
*He hung up. I just stood there, praying that he knows what he's doing*
