"Erin if you stop moving around then maybe you might be able to fall asleep." Jay said tiredly with his eyes shut.
"Well blame your kid Halstead." She huffed.
"How come it's always my kid when it's giving you hell?" He mumbled.
"Just because."
"Hmm. Okay."
"Ah!" Erin shouted, "It's hopeless, I need more pillows."
Jay rolled over and turned his light on before getting out of bed, he pulled the extra pillows they stored in their closest out to give to Erin. He then tucked them around her body to try make it somewhat comfier for her. She snuggled in close to them as he got back into bed.
"Better?" He mumbled.
"Mm. Better. Remind me tomorrow to go pick up one of those pregnancy pillows." She said softly as she fell back to sleep.
"That's is not happening."
It was the weekend Jay had been stressing over, Lily's third birthday. Erin wasn't sure why he was so stressed, she'd had other birthdays and they'd been great. But for some reason he was making sure this one was extra special for his little girl.
Erin was woken by Jay shuffling out of bed, she frowned when she'd noticed the time, "Baby, what are you doing?"
"It's our little girls birthday." He said with a big grin, by the look of his face he'd been up for a while.
"How long have you been up?"
He looked over to the clock that read 6:57am, then back to his wife, "Couple hours, wanted to get abit of studying in."
"I don't know how you do it. Between picking up extra shifts so you can follow alongside Hank, studying for the sergeants exam, being the best father that's going crazy over his little girls birthday and of course dealing with my restless nights and pregnancy hormones, you definitely amaze me Jay Halstead."
He smiled and leant down to kiss her, "About those restless night sleeps..."
She held up her hand knowing exactly what he was going to say, "Don't even."
"Erin you and that god dam pillow. It's got to go," She rolled her eyes and rolled over, "Can't ignore me."
She looked up to see him appear on her side of the bed, crouched down to reach her eye level, "But it helps me sleep. No offence but it's more squishy and cuddly then you."
Jay put his hand to his heart dramatically, "Way to wound me Er."
"You know this pregnancy has been harder then it was with Lily," he looked away awkwardly, because he didn't know how different it was, "Sorry, I'm sorry."
He shrugged, "All good. I know it sucks and you feel bigger then last..."
"I never said that."
"Hmm?" He raised an eyebrow at her sudden change of tone and the fact that she was getting up out of bed.
"I never said I felt bigger. Do you think I'm bigger then I should be?" She said sadly.
He stood up and bought her into his arms, "Of course not, you look amazing, but I do recall you saying that when you couldn't fit into your sweatpants and had to use mine."
She chuckled quietly as she stood close to his chest, "Okay I'm sorry. Baby brain."
"Mmhmm. Now what does baby feel like for breakfast?" He said tracing circles on her six month belly.
"I think we should let our other baby decide it is her birthday after all."
Jay smiled, "That it is. Shall we go see if she's awake?"
"Before we do that, what's got you making sure this day is so perfect. All her other birthdays have been amazing and everything you do for her...for us is beyond words but your really going all out for this one."
"Because it's her last one as an only child, I want her to feel extra special. Not that we will love her any less once the baby comes but our attention might be sidetracked sometimes so I just want her to know how much we love her." He explained and Erin couldn't help but bring him back into her embrace.
"Your an amazing father Jay. I'm so lucky to have you to do life with."
"I couldn't do it without you. We make a great team."
She stood on her toes to reach his lips, giving him a soft kiss, "Always have always will."
"I'm so looking forward to having you back by my side though, being partnered up with Voight most days can become a little..."
She waited for an answer, "You are just annoyed and upset that you don't get to stare at my ass every time we are out in the field."
"Well yeah, your ass is a lot nicer to look at then Hanks," he scrunched up his nose, "Not that I look at Hanks ass."
Erin chuckled, "Let's go see our birthday girl."
They crept into Lily's room and to their surprise she was still asleep, but seeings though is was her normal wake up time they had to wake her up.
"You can do it." Jay said stepping back with his arms risen.
Erin rolled her eyes, "Oh you big sook," she leant time and gently traced circles on her daughters back and lightly talked to her, "Lily, time to wake up Lil bear."
Lily yawned and rubbed her eyes as she slowly waked up, "Mummy?"
"Hi sweetheart, did you have a good sleep?" She asked picking Lily up from her bed.
Lily nodded and snuggled into Erin's neck, "I like cuddles with you mummy."
Erin's heart melted, she just wanted her daughter to step getting older, "I love them too bubba."
Jay stepped forward and rubbed Lily's cheek to get her to notice him too, he wanted in on the cuteness, "Morning Lil bear."
"Daddy!" Lily said excitedly, "Cuddle with mummy and me too?"
"Of course." Jay said happily and bought both his girls into his arms. After they'd cuddle for a few minutes Jay pulled back, "You know what today is right baby girl?"
"My birthday!" Lily said excitedly.
"It sure is, what would you like for breakfast?" Jay asked.
"Pwesents?" Lily said ignoring her father, while she looked up at Erin who chuckled.
"Yes we can open presents first, then did you want choc chip pancakes?"
Lily jumped up and down, "Yes!"
"Yes what Lily?" Jay said eyebrow risen.
"Yes please daddy," She said quickly before running out of the room, she came back in when her parents weren't following, "Come on! Ain't no time like the pwesent."
Erin and Jay both chuckled as they followed after their happy little three year old, "That sass is going to get her in trouble one day."
"You can blame Hank for all these little words and sayings, she picks up on a lot of things he says. She loves watching him in the bullpen. You should see her when your not around and I've bought her in for a couple hours, she watches him like a Hawk and mimics nearly everything he does and says."
Jay faced palmed himself, "I don't need a little Voight at home too."
"You know she's just going through the phase of mimicking everything." She chuckled.
"Yeah but Hank really? I mean he's not the most interesting person to watch and copy all day..." Jay stopped in his track when he noticed Hank in the doorway, "Hank!"
"Morning you too. Morning birthday girl." He said picking Lily up for a cuddle.
"Morning Hank," Erin said giving him a side hug, "Your early."
"Thought I'd give this little one her present before everyone else gets here. And I also bought pancakes and waffles from that place you love so you's wouldn't have to mess up the kitchen." Hank said pointing to the bag on the kitchen counter.
"Ah your amazing." Erin said making her way over to plate everything up.
"Thanks Hank, you didn't have to." Jay said giving him a thankful smile.
"Least I can do, your wearing yourself thin these days Halstead."
"It will all work out hopefully."
"You ready to take the exam next week?"
Jay gulped and nodded, getting a reassuring smile from him wife, "I think so."
"You'll do great," Hank patted him on the back, "Now let's eat."
As Hank was putting Lily in her high chair at the dining table Jay walked around to Erin who was dishing everything out, "You still think I'm making the right decision?"
"Jay you know I do, what's really going on?"
He sighed and rested his hand on her bump, "I just want to make sure I'm still here one hundred percent of the time, not focused on something else. You three are my world."
"You will be. You will work it out, it's easier remember."
He looked confused, "What do you mean?"
"You have me." She smiled.
He smiled back, "That I do."
Lily started kicking her feet on the high chair, "Daddy! I want to open pwesents!"
He turned to his daughter as he grabbed the kiddy plate from Erin, sitting it in front of her, "Breakfast first."
"No."
"Lily."
"No."
"Lily." Jay said a little firmer.
"No." She shot back.
"Lilian Halstead. You will eat your breakfast that Grandpa Hank bought over and then you can open presents, if you can't do that then you won't get any presents at all." Jay explained firmly. He was not getting ruled over by a three year old.
She didn't say anything but picked up the food and started eating it, Jay turned to face Hank and Erin who had slight smirks, "Explain to me again why we decided to have another one of these amazing creatures."
Erin rubbed her bump, "Because even with all the suss they make our world a better place."
"That they do," Hank agreed, "How long now kiddo?"
"Three more months, couldn't come quick enough. I think this ones going to be a mad soccer player or something, keeps me up at all hours and kicks me like a maniac." She chuckled.
"Typical Halstead." Jay said proudly.
"You played soccer?" Hank asked.
"Yeah. All through school, was pretty darn good too."
"Okay hotshot." Erin said rolling her eyes.
"What don't believe me?" He said pretending to be offended.
"Eh." She shrugged just wanted to get a reaction from him.
"I will show you, as soon as Lily opens her presents," Jay nodded and quickly at the rest of his pancakes, "Present time Lily?"
"Yes!!" She shouted as Jay picked her up and started walking to the living room.
Hank looked at Erin confused, "He got her a soccer ball for her birthday, it's pink and everything." They both laughed and joined the other two.
.
"So Lily there is one more present but you have to go outside for it." Jay said as Erin looked at him in shock, another present? She didn't know of any other present.
"Really?" Lily said with wide eyes.
"Yeah, come on." Jay said opening his arms to pick his little girl up. Then the three of them walked outside, when Lily noticed the cubby house in the far corner she squirmed out of her fathers arms and took off running."
"Careful on the steps Lily!" Erin shouted before leaning into Jays side, "You built her a cubby house," he nodded and smiled, "But when?"
"Will helped me yesterday, that's why I tried my hardest to keep everyone inside yesterday I wanted it to be a surprise."
"Your an amazing father Jay." Hank said patting Jay on the back.
Lily started shouted, "Look Grandpa!"
"Coming kiddo!" Hank said as he took off jogging.
"He lights up around her." Erin smiled.
"Who wouldn't." He said kissing his wife's forehead as they walked on over too.
"So what else did you get Lily?" Will said excitedly as he sat crossed legged on the floor as Lily showed him all her presents. She had gotten a soccer ball and goals, colouring in books, more lego like every birthday and the amazing cubby house from her parents and a mini version of Erin's car to ride in and either control herself or it be operated by control which Jay was more excited then her about from Hank.
"A car like mummy's!" She said showing him the mini SUV.
"That's so cool! You are a very lucky little girl. I always got you a present!" He said with a big smile.
"Really?"
"Yeah of course. It's out the front, do you want to come see?" He asked holding out his hand.
"Oh god what now, she was been so spoilt this birthday and she's yet to see the birthday party we have planned for her." Erin said letting out a deep breath.
Jay kissed the side of her head, "We can't help that's she so loved."
"I know," Erin let out a breath, "Come on let's go see what uncle Will got."
They walked outside to find Lily with a tiny little ball of fluff in her hands, both Jays and Erin's eyes widened as they shot looks at Will.
"Mummy! Daddy! Look! A bunny!" She said so excitedly.
"Wow...A...Bunny!" Erin said in shock as Jay just stood their speechless.
"Isn't he the cutest?" Will smirked.
"Yeah that's one word for it," Jay said dumbfounded then gave his brother a look and pointed to the garage, "Will, a word?"
"Sure," Will nodded then followed his brother, "What's up little brother?"
"You got her a bunny! Without asking Erin and I?" Jay said trying to keep his voice low.
"Jay come on man she loves him. She's at the perfect age for a little..."
"Will we are having another baby! Also we have a dog that's probably going to think the little bunny is a nice snack! Lily won't be the one taking care of it, we will!" He said angrily.
"Come on man, I just remembered how when we were little we got given a bunny for Christmas and we were so excited!"
"We were like six years old, a little older to know the responsibility's of taking care of a pet."
"Okay fine. Look I'm sorry, I can take it back and..."
"And break her little heart?" Jay interrupted.
Erin approached them, "Guys let's do this later, it's her birthday. She's already asked why daddy is angry at uncle Will. I don't want her to watch you two bite each other's heads off."
"Not me it's all him!" Will defended himself.
"Will enough!" Erin said raising her voice.
They both nodded as they went back to their little girl who was sitting in the driveway playing with her new little friend.
"Can I name him squishy?" She said looking up at her parents.
"Squishy?" Erin raised an eyebrow as she kneeled down to her daughters level, rubbing the top of the bunny's little head, "I think it's perfect. What do you think daddy?"
Jay forced a smile trying not to let his anger at his brother wreck Lily's day, "It's perfect, welcome to the family Squishy."
