When Astro had told his family that Bergljot would be staying with them, there had been pretty mixed reactions. Maria and Amber didn't seem surprised, likely because he had talked to them about it beforehand and explained whatever her situation was. The children hadn't been filled in it though, so it sort of caught them off guard.

Dorado and Cetus had been more confused than anything. They wondered just who the girl was, and why she was staying here with them. Dorado was friendly enough towards her, since she didn't seem interested in being friends he kept a respectful distance. Cetus was downright intimidated by her, so he steered clear.

Sagitta had at first been excited to have another girl in the castle, but… well, Bergljot wasn't exactly the most social person out there. And Aqua was more interested in what she was than who she was. She had been trying to collect samples from the girl, but she was far more observant and weary than one would think, so it proved difficult.

And then there was Lacerta…

Their first interaction had been less than ideal, and it hadn't seemed to grow much better from there. They were always glaring daggers at one another, and insults tended to fly back and forth between the two. Why Lars had been chosen to be her escort and guardian while she was here was honestly beyond anyone. But they were mostly sure Astro knew what he was doing.

Lars thought this was just some kind of punishment though. His father's personal way of getting back at him for some of his more reckless antics. But he had been given a job, and he was going to do it. Even if it sucked. "Where the hell is she…?" he muttered, looking irritated. Usually she woke up at the crack of dawn and started training in the courtyard, but today she hadn't been there.

If ran away from the castle and off somewhere else without him, he was going to clock her upside the head and drag her back. His dad had been clear. She wasn't to go anywhere without an escort. Maybe he should call Hati. The wolf had already picked up her scent, so he knew he could track her down easily. He made his way up towards the balcony where Hati usually liked to sleep and howl at the moons, but was surprised to see another figure sitting there along with his companion.

Bergljot was sitting on the edge of the balcony, looking up at the sky as Hati laid his head in her lap. She patted his head gently, as she kept staring, the usual grumpy stoic look on her face. Lacerta raised an eyebrow. He had no idea why Hati had taken to her so quickly. Usually he hated strangers. His father made him put the wolf away in his room whenever they had guests. But when it came to Bergljot, he seemed to have given her a pass.

"What are you doing here?" Lacerta asked, making his way towards them.

"It looks different."

"What?"

"The sky here. It looks different than the one on Asgard."

The prince looked down at her like she was crazy. "Well duh, this ain't Asgard." He walked up on the edge of the ledge and stood beside her. So Mewni's sky was different from Asgard's. So what? It looked different from Earth's too, but he never thought twice about it when he was here.

Bergljot grunted. "On Asgard the sky is plain looking. Dull." But here… whether it was day or night, the sky had so many colors and shades. And more moons than she was used to too. She wasn't used to it, and she didn't know why, but couldn't help but stare sometimes.

"You're a fucking weirdo," Lacerta said crossing his arms. "If you're so obsessed with the sky, then just go up there and get a better look."

Bergljot scoffed. "I can't fly."

"The hell do you mean you can't fly? You have fire powers. You can shoot through your hands and feet right? Just used that to fly," he said as if it was obvious. He used the same thing to boost himself while flying, or sometimes just to fly when his wings got damaged or something.

The girl looked towards him confused. "You can do that?" she asked. She had never even considered doing anything like that. She had never needed to before. Once she got her hands on her enemies, it was rare they managed to slip out of her grasps.

To prove his point, Lacerta stepped off the ledge and then fired flames from his feet, keeping himself hovering in the air. "It's easy. A baby could do it. You dumber than a baby?" he asked, a smirk on his face. Bergljot growled, taking the claim as a challenge. She stood up, and Lars and Hati watched as she stepped off the ledge. She fell only for a moment, but then shot flames from her feet.

Unfortunately she seemed to put too much effort into the task, and she was sent shooting far higher up into the air than intended. Lacerta smirked as he watched her rocketing upwards. She turned off her flames, and then began to fall back down towards the ground. Before she hit it, she turned the flames back on, but ended up shooting off in a different direction.

She zipped around the castle for a bit, clearly not able to keep track of where exactly she was. Eventually she ended up crashing into the statue in the garden, and then into a bush of flowers. She slid past it and left a trail on the ground. "Wow, the old man's favorite rose bush. He's gonna be pissed."

Bergljot pushed herself off the ground and glared at Lacerta, who wore an incredibly smug look on his face. "I can't believe you have so much trouble just hovering in the air. Here I thought you were some kind of genius or something. Maybe next time we spare I should just trick you into trying again. You'll take yourself out without me having to lift a finger," he mocked.

"Shut up! It was my first try! I'll get it!"

She wasn't getting it.

At least not as far as Lacerta would tell anyway. She had spent the better half of this morning crashing all over the place, leaving crater after crater with each attempt to get control of herself in the air. He was sure after a while she would give it up, but she just kept on going. She was stubborn as hell, he'd give her that.

"You know, you could help her."

Lacerta looked over his shoulder towards his mother, who was watching as Bergljot once again landed face first on the ground. Amber hadn't seen anyone crash this much since… well, since Astro tried to get used to flying. "And why would I do that when I could just sit here and keep enjoying the show?" Lars asked, yawning.

Amber hummed as Hati walked over and nuzzled her. She patted him on the head gently. "Well for one, you're clearly getting bored. And two, it would be the nice thing to do," she said. "You know when it comes to flame magic you're pretty much unmatched. Except by maybe her anyway. She just needs to learn more control. It'd be easy for you to teach her."

Lars scoffed. "You really want me to teach her just to be nice? I know I'm your favorite mom, but even you have to know that's not how I roll," he said.

"I don't have favorites," Amber said, waving her finger. "And I know it's not. I just thought that maybe you would want her to have an even playing field. I mean, you're the best flyer in mewni right? So I wouldn't think you'd be intimidated by her. Unless maybe you're a little nervous that might end up getting the jump on you?"

Lacerta narrowed his eyes at his mother, who wasn't even trying to hide what she was doing based off the smirk on her face and the tone of her voice. "You know, I know you're playing me… but you're right."

"I know," Amber said, shrugging her shoulders.

Lacerta walked over towards the norse warrior, who was about to take off again. "You're putting too much power into your flames." She turned back towards him with a glare, which he ignored. "You got more than enough fire power to lift yourself off the ground. Dial it back and figure out just enough to keep yourself in one place."

Bergljot looked at him skeptically. "It's not a trick for fuck's sake. I'm just getting tired of watching you screw up the same way over and over again. If I help, I can watch you screw up in new ways. Start off small, and add more power until you start going up," he instructed.

Bergljot still looked suspicious of him, but let out a breath before looking down. She wasn't used to only using a bit of her flame. Usually when she let her fire loose, it no less than half her fire power, and as she kept going she turned it up even higher. But clearly that wasn't working.

At first she only just warmed her feet up, and it took a couple of seconds before any actual flames appeared around her. "Alright, turn it up. Slowly," Lacerta said. It was probably gonna take forever, but better take her time and do it right than just keep on fucking it up.

Bergljot kept increasing the firepower from her feet. Some of the grass around her began burning away, and eventually she started to slowly rise up off of the ground. Her face was locked in concentration, and once she got up a few feet, Lacerta held his hands up. "Stop. Keep it right there," Lars said.

The redhead stopped, hovering in the air as the flames continued to shoot out of her feet. After a few seconds, Bergljot smirked. "I told you I could do it."

"Yeah, after I took pity on you and helped you," he said before flying up himself. He moved a few feet above her, then held his hand up. "Now that you can hover in one damn place, how about you try actually moving. Get up here, if you can."

Bergljot looked like she was about to rush right after him, but then remembered what happened earlier. Instead, she slowly increased the amount of firepower from her feet and began raising upwards. She was about to reach where his hand was, but Lacerta suddenly moved backwards and away from her. "Now let's try something less simple than up and down," he said smirking.

Bergljot scowled and tried to move forward, but then shook a bit. For a moment it looked like she panicked and was going to go flying out of control, but then she managed to steady herself. "Don't know how to move forward? Want my advice?" Lacerta asked, looking smug.

She glared once more, and then suddenly thought of something. She moved her hands behind her, then shot fire out of them. Unfortunately she had a bit more thrust than planned, and ended up shooting forward and smashing right into Lars. They went flying and crashed into the side of the castle, and Amber winced.

The septarian queen made a mental note to make them take these flying lessons somewhere else. Otherwise the local repairmen have their hands full.

"Is there any particular reasons they're doing that?"

Amber turned her head and saw Astro approaching, an odd expression on his face. Seeing his son tear apart the castle was sadly far from new for him. But seeing Bergljot joining in was… well, not shocking. Just slightly more surprising he supposed. "She wanted to learn to fly. I think Lacerta dared her or something. But I managed to convince him to help out," Amber explained.

Astro hummed. "Really? She should already know how to fly."

"Are there many fire users in Asgard or-?"

"No, I mean she shouldn't need to use flames to do that. She's supposedly half valkyrie. I've never known a valkyrie who can't fly." He had been to Asgard quite a few times. They were one of the few pantheons he was on friendly terms with. And while not every single god or immortal who hailed from Asgard could fly, not once had he ever met a valkyrie who couldn't.

Amber looked back up towards Lars and Bergljot, who were now bickering with one another. "Huh… maybe it just didn't pass on. It's possible she just got most of her traits from her father's side," she reasoned.

Astro hummed. "Maybe…" It honestly didn't seem very likely to him. But he didn't want to question her on it just yet. Still, he was starting to understand why Thor and Odin were so weary of this girl.

Still, if there really was anything to worry about, Lacerta would be more than able to handle it. For all the flack he gave the boy, he was very observant and picked up on such things. And he'd be able to handle her if she really was the threat they'd feared she was.

"Dumbass! I told you to take it slow!"

"Shut up! You didn't tell me to watch my hands!"

"I shouldn't have to! It's common fucking sense!"

Yep, faith in his son… that was that was relying on...
