"Lily please can you sit still?" Jay said as he tried doing his daughters her for the fifteenth time. Every single time it was good enough for the little queen so she'd rip it out and make her father do it again but his patience was wearing thin.

"Daddy, mummy does it different." The little girl said looking at herself in the bathroom mirror.

"I know mummy does it different, but mummy is sleeping and I promised mummy that I would let her sleep in while I got you ready for the day." He said as he prayed for her not to rip out her pig tails.

She crossed her arms and gave him the sassiest look, the look that was all Erin when she wasn't getting her way, "But daddy I don't like it."

Jays head sunk quickly before he then looked back at his daughter in defeat, "Baby can you please just leave them in? Mummy is exhausted, your little brother is keeping her up all night and making her sore. And it's a really important day for daddy today so I need to get to work."

He knew Lily's care factor would be low on everything he just said but he had nothing else, he'd been fighting her on her hair for the last half hour and he still had to get her dressed, that was the next mission.

"Okay daddy. Can we go give mummy a cuddle?" She asked.

Jay frowned, "Mummy is sleeping sweetheart but I promise when we get him later we will give her lots and lots of cuddles and maybe even pick up her favourite icecream?"

"Azelnut!" She shouted and Jay chuckled.

"Shhh," he quickly said bringing his finger up to his mouth, she mimicked him just as quick as he shushed her, "Come on let's go get you dressed, I'm thinking the little blue dress and white leggings?"

"I don't think so." She pouted as she strutted off once she was put on the ground.

"Of course you don't." Jay rolled his eyes, he really couldn't wait for a little boy, his daughter did love to kick around a soccer ball and play with tonka trucks but having to do pigtails and dress her up in matching outfits every other day was a mission.

Jay was on edge all day and he didn't have Erin there to keep him calm and keep his hopes high. She had cut her hours back so she wasn't in the bullpen helping out as much, this pregnancy was taking a much larger toll then her last but she wasn't once upset about it. But Jay needed her today, today was possible the day he found out whether he passed the sergeants exam or not and he was on edge.

"Earth to Halstead." Hailey said waving a case file infront of him.

"Sorry, what?" He looked up.

"You phone Jay, it's been buzzing like crazy while you have been off in fairy land." She chuckled.

"Right yeah, thanks."

He looked down and smiled when he noticed it was Erin messaged him and that she called a couple times, man he really was out of it. He rang and waited a few moments before the call connected,

"Was somebody off in fairyland or were you actually busy?"

"Hailey called you then?"

"Texted but that was after a few times that I called and you didn't answer. I asked her if you's were out and she said no Jays just off in his own world. What's going on babe?"

"Nothing I'm all good."

"Don't lie to me Halstead."

"Maybe I'm a little worried."

"Jay Halstead. You have nothing to stress about, I knew I should of come in today."

"No don't be silly. You need your rest."

"You need your other partner there keeping your head in the game and continually telling you that you've aced it and have nothing to worry about."

"And if I haven't aced it?"

"Then you will study more and try again."

"Yeah maybe."

"Come on babe you gotta believe in yourself. Your the best cop I know."

"Your just saying that because you have to."

"Maybe. But anyway seriously, you got this babe."

"Thanks Er. I will see you tonight, what we thinking for dinner?"

"Well seeings though it will be a congratulatory dinner I think we should go out."

"Er."

"See you tonight Halstead. I will pick the little devil up and we will be ready by six in pretty dresses to celebrate daddy."

"Love you."

"Love you more."

He hung up and couldn't help but smile. His wife had all the faith in the world which gave him hope. He was a good cop and he studied hard, but yet he still didn't know if he had it.

"Better?" Hailey said looking over to him.

"Why do you two always gang up on me?"

She chuckled, "Because we only ever have your best interest at heart. You are going to ace this Jay stop worrying."

"How do you even feel about me eventually taking over the unit?" Jay asked intrigued, that hadn't actually spoken about it.

"Proud. Seriously Jay, you deserve this. Your going to be great." She smiled back and when she noticed Platt walk up the steps with an envelope in her hand she quickly looked to Jay pointing.

"Halstead, this is for you." She said bluntly as she passed it to him, standing in the same spot waiting for him to open it.

"I'm going to go open this in private, just incase." He said and got up.

"Is he the only person that doesn't think he has it in the bag?" Trudy asked Hailey.

"He's kidding himself if he doesn't think he has it in the bag." Hailey chuckled.

Jay stepped inside the front door, quickly unclipping his badge and unholstering his gun before stepping inside more. He chuckled when he saw the nerf gun and note that sat on the hall table.

"Husband,

Welcome home, before our celebratory dinner and your good news. We are hiding in the house with the other nerf gun, here is yours.

The loser is the first to lose their clothes tonight.

Wife."

Jay smiled his wife was one of a kind. He put his belongings in the safe then picked up the nerf gun, acting like he was using an actual rifle he started approaching the living room, peaking around corners like he was actually searching a house.

He walked forward then went to peak around another corner when he heard his wife yell, "Get him!"

Rapid fire, Lily laughing her little lungs out and nerf bullets going everywhere with Zeus trying to catch them was one of the best ways to come home.

"Okay okay. I surrender." Jay said holding his hands up in defeat.

"Losing to your pregnant wife who was holding their daughter aswell as shooting, I definitely am the better shot aren't I." Erin chuckled as she watch Lily run to her father.

"Guess I will be the one losing my clothes first tonight," He chuckled giving his daughter a hug, "Hello my little asskicker."

"Jay!"

"Mummy daddy said a bad word!"

Erin smirked, "Yes daddy did. Say bad daddy."

Lily gave Jay a tiny slap to the arm were he over exaggerated and fell over, "Bad daddy."

"Sorry it won't happen again. Now look at you two beautiful lady's."

Lily done a little twirl, "You need to go get dressed daddy, you can't come looking like that."

Jay laughed, "Will do baby. How was squish today?"

"He done a poos on the couch."

Jay gasped, "Oh no. Did you tell him he was a bad boy like daddy?"

"Uh huh." She nodded.

"Good girl. Now how about you watch some Dora while daddy goes and changes."

"Okay daddy." She smiled then walked off to keep herself occupied.

Erin was leaning on the kitchen counter resting her hand on her belly, "Have I ever told you how stunning you are?"

She rolled her eyes, "Stunning? I look like a whale."

"Not at all, your really doing something to me." He said seductively.

"Calm down Halstead, your going to have to wait until later, it took long enough to get this dress on I'm not getting frisky before dinner and having to put it on twice."

"I mean we could just leave it on and you know..." he said trading his hands up her thigh, creeping underneath her dress.

She slapped his hand away quickly, "Not happening, keep it in your pants," they both chuckled, "Now do I get to hear the good news."

Jay sighed and stepped away as he grabbed the envelope. Erin frowned when she noticed his domineer change, had he actually failed?

He passed it to her, "I will let you find out for yourself."

She opened it slowly and then a smile quickly appeared on her face, "You had me worried there for a sec mister. Baby you did it! Congratulations, I'm so proud of you."

"I couldn't have done it without you Er." He smiled wrapping his arms around her.

"Sergeant Halstead. Has a nice ring to it," he smirked and kissed her, a little too passionately if you asked her, "I mean maybe we could somehow just leave the dress on."

"This is why your my wife."

She slapped him playfully, "What? Because I'm willing to have a quickie with you?"

"I mean no." He shrugged, trying to back pedal.

"You'd better hurry up otherwise I'm going to change my mind."

He quickly picked her up bridal style, "To the bedroom," they both glanced at Lily, "I mean she does think I'm getting changed."

"Uh huh. Sure." Erin laughed.
