Flame Princess and Finn

Series: Adventure Time

Finn was smiling as he hummed to himself, lugging a pound of random ingredients up the branch on the side of his home, the sky showing it was night out. He hummed happily as he entered the tree, smiling as he looked at the bright light waiting for him at the kitchen table. "Yo Flame Princess, I'm back."

"Great!" Smiled Flame Princess who was sitting atop what looked like a large, thick sheet of aluminum foil. She took the ingredients and tossed them into a pan, then held it above her head and right over her hair while Finn went to set up the table. "So, what am I cooking?"

"Well, I got some ground beef, some veggies, and some other stuff from Jake."

"None of it was wiggling when you got it, was it?"

"Nope, none at all." Finn said with a grin. "I made sure it was fresh too for date night."

"Aw, thanks." She said with a smile, her face heating up a bit...well, as much as it could.

Finn whistled, making sure the plates were clean and the utensils were properly placed as the pan heated up in no time, the food getting cooked.

"I think it's almost ready Finn." She said with a grin as she heard the meat sizzling.

"Sweet." He smiled as she moved the pan down and over to the table, setting it in the center while Finn grabbed some spoons and put them in. "Alright, time to dig in."

"Yep!" She said as she grabbed a spoon, trying her best not to melt it. She and Finn went ahead and started grabbing pieces to put on their plates before using the knives and forks to dig in with Finn humming.

"Wow, this tastes spot on. You've gotten way better since the last time."

"Thanks, I did my best." She said, perking up a bit at the compliment. "Those cooking tips from Jake really paid off."

"I'll say." Finn said, humming happily as he took another bite. "So, what's been new in the Fire Kingdom?"

"Well, nothing really big. Other than the whole fighting for the throne thing going on with my family, nothing out of the ordinary." She said with a sigh. "Dad's insisting I either go back into that stupid lamp or else, so of course the fight is being annoying."

"Are you worried?" asked Finn with concern. "'Cause if you want, I could go ahead and help put up a sweet barrier around your place. Maybe see if I can get Jake's help."

"Nah, right now he's just all talk, no action. I'll be fine." She said with a wave of her hand. "Besides, he knows he can't beat me."

"Especially with me there to help." smiled Finn flexing his arms, which made her chuckle.

"If I need help I'll let you know, but for now I have it under control." She replied while nibbling on a piece of corn while Finn munched on a piece of beef. "So, anything new happen with you?"

"Not much, the Ice King has mellowed out a bit so the amount of princesses me and Jake have to save has gone down." He remarked while looking up in thought. "So far we've been taking it easy and going on a little break, which just means more time for moments like this."

"Well that's good to hear." She said with a nod. 'So he's saving less princesses...how many does he usually interact with?'

Finn looked outside the window at the night sky before swallowing his food. "After you're done, you wanna go outside? Just stare at the sky?"

"Sure, that sounds nice." She smiled.

(Later)

Finn set up an aluminum foil blanket out, while wearing a matching sweater as the two sat on it, with their arms around the others shoulders with them looking at the stars.

"This is nice, I like this." He smiled.

"Me too, this was a really nice idea Finn."

"Yeah, just you, me, and the stars." He whispered while feeling himself relax from the heat coming off her, but trying not to get too close.

"Yep, I couldn't picture a better night even if I tried~" She closed her eyes with a sigh while laying her head on his shoulder.

"Agreed." He said as he moved his head away so he wouldn't get burned.

(Timeskip)

"Go on Finn, go have fun in the water, I'm good staying here."

"You sure? I don't mind staying here in the sand with you." He said, sitting a few feet from her as the sand around her turned to glass. He was wearing some blue swim trunks as they were on the beach. "We could try and make a huge sand castle together, or even a sand fortress."

"Um, maybe, I don't know how well that might go." She remarked, looking down at the glass. "Really, I don't mind if you wanna swim a little."

"Ummm….." Finn said, looking at the ocean and repressing a shudder. "Nah, I think I'm good for now."

"...maybe this wasn't the best idea for a date." Mumbled FP, thinking she was the reason it was going bad.

"Yeah…" Finn said, feeling like it was his fault the date was going bad. 'Gah! I can't believe I had to open my mouth and say the beach would be great. I'm such a dingus.'

'I would take any distraction right now, anything to get us off this stupid beach.'

"Ahhh! Help!"

"Someone needs help, I'll be right back!" Finn said, bolting up. He looked around while pulling his sword out from the sand before spotting something out in the water. "Wait, is that…"

"Help!" Cried out a water nymph with a pink bikini and long water hair, currently being held in a tentacle belonging to a large octopus.

"Denise! Hold on, I'm coming!"

"Wait, you know her?"

"Yeah, she lives outside the house."

"What?!" She cried as Finn ran towards the water. 'Lives outside the house? I've never seen her.'

"I'm coming Denise!"

"Hurry Finn, this thing has the others too!"

"There are others?!" Flame Princess stood up, spotting other nymphs in other tentacles, each one wearing a bikini with her growing. "Just how many of those girls are there?"

"A few, they live in the pond outside the treehouse." remarked Finn casually as he swam towards the creature and let out a battle cry as he swung at it, making it cry out and try swinging back at him.

'They live outside his house?! How long has that been happening?!' Thought FP clenching her hands as her hair seemed to grow in height. 'Is he chea- no, he wouldn't do that, would he?!'

"Hiya!" Finn swung his sword and cut a tentacle off, making the octopus cry out as he got to work hacking at the others before one wrapped around him, squeezing and making him gasp as it held him up in the air. "Flame Princess, help!"

"I'm on it, hold still!" She used her flames around her feet to fly into the air before firing numerous fireballs, hitting the beast as it cried out from the flames as it dropped the nymphs and Finn before going back under the water.

"Thanks!"

"Yeah, like thanks!" One of the nymphs called.

"Yeah, no prob, happy to happy." Replied FP landing on the sand while not sounding too thrilled. 'Oh Finn has a lot of explaining to do, what is he doing hanging out with these water elementals?'

"Thanks Finn, we were out here trying to relax with some swimming when we were attacked out of nowhere."

"No problem, it's just what I do." He chuckled with a grin.

"Oh Finn, I think it's time we got back to our date!" FP spoke up loud and clear with her arms crossed.

"Right, I'm coming!" Finn called, not catching her tone. "Sorry about that."

"No problem, now let's go, we have a LOT to talk about." She said, a forced smile on her face.

(Timeskip)

"Hahahahaha, you can't catch me!"

"Yes I can!" Finn laughed. He and Flame Princess were currently running through the meadow, with Flame Princess thankful it recently rained, meaning she could run without catching the grass on fire by accident.

'Finally! For once this feels normal, for once we're not held back by my powers!' Thought FP with a smile as she did a twirl, easily avoiding Finn's armored hand and stuck her tongue out. "Not gonna make it easy for you."

"I wouldn't have it anyother way FP!" He laughed, chasing after her. The cool wind, the open space, and not fighting anything made this great, especially hearing Flame Princess laugh in delight.

"Heeeeelp!"

Finn skidded to a stop and looked around while Flame Princess did the same. "Oh no, someone's in trouble."

'Again?!' Flame Princess thought as she managed to keep a groan down."You sure it's not just some random noise in the wind?"

"Help! Finn, help me!"

"...very strange wind?"

Finn squinted his eyes and looked across the meadow before he spotted Slime Princess, trying to get away from several pixies laughing as they were shooting fireworks from their hands which got near the princesses face and made her scared. "Slime Princess! Hold on!"

'Of course he knows this one too.' Flame Princess thought in annoyance. She watched him run towards them with her sighing and casually walked.

"Hey dinguses! Leave her alone!"

"Gah! Glitterbombs, it's that guy again!" One of the pixies swore.

"Time for a good old fashion payback!"

"Get him!"

"What? You all want to be on fire? Fine, if you insist." Flame Princess spoke up. Her hands lit up before she fired a stream making the pixies cry out as they barely avoided it while Finn ran over and punched one in the face before kicking another one in the gut.

"Screw this, let's fly out of here boys!"

"Oh no you don't!" Finn jumped and tackled the leader, rolling on the ground before throwing him at the others, making them fall on the ground. "You dinguses are gonna apologize to Slime Princess first."

"Never!"

"Do it or I'll set you all on fire for ruining our date!" Flame Princess called out from behind Finn.

"Ha! What? You need your little girlfriend to-" the leader stopped when they saw FP forming a fireball in one hand, and slowly made it grow bigger and bigger. "...I would like to apologize to the slime."

"Say it like you mean it."

"...Fine, we're really sorry Slime Princess." They muttered simultaneously.

"That's better." Finn said. "Now scram!" he said as the Pixies bolted away.

"My hero~" Smiled Slime Princess moving over and hugging Finn's leg. "Thank you Finn, they've been bothering me all morning. I thought they'd never stop."

"It was my pleasure." He said as FP frowned.

"Finn, who is that?" Flame princess asked with a frown.

"Oh, well ya see this here is Slime Princess."

"Hello."

"Slime princess, huh..." she looked at the tiny princess who gave a small wave. 'She doesn't look that royal.' she thought as she shook her head. 'They're making anyone princesses nowadays, probably Bubblegum's idea.'

"It's uh, nice to meet you." Slime princess said as she held out a limb for flame princess to shake.

FP looked down and grabbed the limb before SP cried out and pulled it back feeling the heat.

"Ow ow ow ow ow!"

"Oh, sorry, I forgot that people can't touch me."She remarked without sounding that bad about it.

"I-It's fine, it was an honest mistake." Spoke SP with a forced smile as she blew on her limb.

"Dang FP, we really need to work on your control, this is the eight princess you accidentally burned."

"Sorry, it happens." She remarked casually before she and Finn walked away.

'Ok, so Finn's taken, don't mess with Flame Princess.' thought Slime Princess who made her way back home while Flame Princess looked at the sky and was silent, with Finn noticing.

"Sorry about the interruption FP."

"It's fine." She snapped, looking away. "Not like it's anything new." she grumbled.

"FP, what's wrong?"

"Nothing, everythings just fine." She muttered as they began to near the treehouse.

"FP, come on, you can tell me." Spoke up Finn with worry. "I'm here for you."

"Not always." She muttered. She stopped and turned to him. "Finn, tell me the truth. How do you feel when you have to run off and save damsels in distress?"

"Huh? What do you mean?" He asked in confusion.

"I wanna know how it feels when you save some random girl, or princess, or anyone like that from some crazy monster."

"Um, ok, I guess I feel heroic? Like I'm doing a good thing?" He replied, unsure what she was getting at. "It makes me feel needed and like I'm doing a great thing."

"And that's it? You don't like saving other girls that can actually kiss you without burning you, or you can actually hug?" Flame Princess pushed with Finn blushing.

"W-Well I'm just saving them because they're in danger, that's all."

"...do you promise?"

"I swear it." He said with a smile. "I promise, you are the most important thing to me right now, nothing could distra-"

"Finn, help!"

Both of them turned, spotting a familiar bearded king flying in the air with Princess Bubblegum tied up in ropes and in his arms.

"...I'll be right back, I promise." Spoke Finn quickly before running over with FP biting her lip and gripping her hands.

'Why….WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY DOES THIS ALWAYS HAPPEN?!' She thought, seeing red. 'Why can't some other hero do the rescuing when we're trying to spend time together?!' She thought, the flames growing bigger and hotter. 'Why do they always have to distract my Finn?!'

"Ice King! Put PB down!" called out Finn while pulling his sword out from his pack.

"No, she'll be my new queen! Mwahahahahaha!"

"Come on man, I thought you were past this!" Frowned Finn climbing up a lamp post with his sword at the ready. "Can't you just marry a penguin, or an ice golem, or….a snowwoman instead?"

"I tried, they either divorced me or melted!" yelled out Ice King before Finn jumped and grabbed onto his leg, making him nearly fall down. "Hey watch the ankle! I've been doing some squats to try and tone them up."

"Let go of the princess!"

"Never! I'm through being lonely!"

"YOU'RE RUINING OUR DATE!" Roared out Flame Princess, her body growing bigger along with the flames and catching their attention before she yelled out and hurled a fireball at the old man.

"Gah!" He cried, dropping Bubblegum, making Finn jump down to grab her. He flew up and started shooting ice blasts at FP while Finn worked on undoing the ropes.

"JUST LEAVE! GET OUT OF HERE AND JUST LEAVE ME AND FINN ALONE!" Roared out FP who kept throwing fireballs with Ice King flying around them, or tried to cool them down with this ice magic.

"FP, come on, I got the princess, let's go!" Called Finn pulling PB by the hand away with FP not turning her head and roared, letting out a stream of flames that Ice King tried to freeze, and was failing at.

"Gah! You'll pay for this….another day!" He called as he began to attempt to fly away, blasting ice at the fire as he did so. "Next time I'll get my princess, and we'll get married! And then we'll have the best wedding around! And you won't be invited!"

"GOOD!" She snapped, throwing one last fireball in a futile gesture of frustration as the old man flew out of range. She huffed and panted, her form slowly shrinking back down to normal.

"Great job FP, you did great!" Finn called.

"Thank you both, I thought that dingus would have gotten me." Smiled Bubblegum.

"Yeah yeah, glad to hear, you can get back to the candy kingdom on your own from here, right?" asked Flame Princess impatiently without bothering to hide it. "Me and Finn were on a DATE, as in spending time TOGETHER, before it was interrupted."

"Ah, yes, I suppose I can." Bubblegum said, picking up on the not so subtle hints the fire being was sending her way. "You two have fun."

"Yeah, we will…" Finn said, looking over at Flame Princess as Bubblegum left. "FP, is everything ok?"

"Why? Do you have to run off again and leave me behind, AGAIN?" she asked with a frown. "Save some frog from a wolf? Or free a sheep from some poacher?"

"No, you just seem a bit…."

"Annoyed? Tired of being second fiddle, an afterthought that gets left behind everytime you hear someone needs your help?" She listed off as she walked away with him following. "Gee, it's almost like I sound like this because I AM!"

Finn gulped seeing her hair grow in size and tried not to get burned. "Flame Princess, it's not like that."

"Is it?! The princesses, the nymphs, the old ladies who keep getting their cats stuck in trees, you always leave me behind to help them, even when they can handle it on their own!" She growled while clenching her hands as she burned more and more grass as they walked. "Every time lately, when we try to spend time together, you always run off to save someone."

"But it's my job, just...listen, FP." He said, sighing. "I know, I may run off more than I should, but it isn't because I don't care about you!"

"Sure feels like it." she stopped next to a rock and sat on it, laying her head and arms on her knees. "It feels like being a hero is more important than me. What's wrong with wanting to spend time together?"

"Nothing, nothing is wrong with that." Finn sighed, sitting down on the rock with her, just far enough away not to get burned. "FP, while I try to save princesses when they need me, it's just a job, I don't do it because I love them thanking me or distracting me from you. All I can think about when I'm saving them is how eager I am to get back to spending time with MY princess."

Flame Princess raised her head and turned to Finn who was blushing and looking away with her own face blushing. "What?"

"Every time someone thanks me, all I can do is think of how much I want to just return to your side, to hangout with you and….yeah." He scratched his cheek while FP looked at the ground. "I know it sounds kinda cheesy, but….it's the truth."

"...It is kinda cheesy." She starts, her face feeling warmer than usual. "But I think it's also sweet." she scooted over a little. "So, even if you had to run off and save every single princess?"

"I do it because it's my job as a hero, but I'd always be most happy after it's over and I can come back home to see you safe and sound." He said as Flame Princess let out a sigh. "I know, I know it's not the best excuse but-"

"No, it's fine. It's honestly sweet. I guess I was just getting a bit obsessive there. I guess I was just worried is all. I didn't wanna think about you getting tired of me. That you might wanna keep your options open while saving so many girls all the time."

"FP, how could I ever get tired of someone as amazing as you?" Spoke Finn with confusion. "You're the most radical princess I know."

"More radical than Bubblegum?"

"A million times more radical." He said with a grin, making her smile.

"Thanks Finn. I guess I needed to hear it from you to really get it." She said as he nodded.

"Anything for you princess." He said, staring at her face for a moment before grinning.

"Well, in that case, let your princess reward you for all your hard work." she smiled before holding his cheeks and leaned in, giving him a peck on the lips before pulling back with him smiling wide.

"...ow." He let out, from the hot hands before she let go.

"Sorry."

"Worth it."
