PROMPTS ARE CLOSED until further notice. I'm getting through all the prompts and hopefully can re-open them by the end of April.
This prompt is from SilverDraconyx on Ao3 - What about, if Peter's class goes on a field trip, but Peter was sick for a few days and everyone forgot to tell him afterwards. So he shows up at school like normal, but everyone's already gone, or maybe they're about to leave but Peter obviously doesn't have a signed permission slip so he can't go. But the field trip was to Stark tower and Tony wanted to surprise him with that or something and then he's confused and disappointed that Peter isn't with his class.
and
sarah-hearth on Ao3 - You could also do it like he was sick, but May had to work or something so he was staying at the Tower and then he had started working around the place bc he was feeling better and it would be good to meet the other interns bc that's technically what he was... and then he's the youngest, but all the interns love him and then his class is getting a tour and sees him or something idk bc tony and ned forgot to warn/tell Pete...
I hope you enjoy and I apologise for any mistakes :)
Tony Stark's Favourite Intern
Peter Parker has never felt so betrayed in his life.
The spider that had bit him had given him super strength, fixed his eyesight, given him abs, endurance, the ability to stick to walls, a sense that had him dodging danger before it occurred (most of the time. Peter was still trying to work out how it worked). He could do things he had always dreamed of doing but it couldn't stop the flu! What was even the point of having super-powers if he still caught the flu?
("Geeze kid, have you been taking drama lessons from Tony?" "Happy, I'm dying!" "You're snotting all over my backseat is what you are doing.")
So maybe hanging out with Ned while he was sick wasn't the best idea. But Peter had just gotten a new Lego set that he knew would cheer Ned up. Peter hadn't been sick since he got bitten and thought that he was now immune to sickness. That had been quickly proven wrong when Peter had rushed out of third period to hurl his guts up and by the time he had finished, Happy was waiting to pick him up.
Peter had spent three days wrapped up in bed, was fed bought chicken soup by May when she wasn't on shift, texted with Tony ("Mr. Stark! DUM-E needs an Easter present. A handmade jumper with a fire extinguisher on it." "Kid, how high is your fever?") and dozed on and off, never really sure if he was awake or not. He had then spent another two days on the couch before May deemed him healthy enough to return to school the following week.
Except, when he returned to school, Peter found it feeling rather empty. Ned hadn't been there to meet him at his locker and hadn't responded to any of Peter text's that morning. As Peter collected his things for his first class, feeling glum that Ned still hadn't arrived, he looked around for MJ, but she was absent too. Abe, Betty and even Flash were nowhere to be seen. Peter settled into his chair, surprised that he was the first to arrive and waited for his classmates.
Only, no-one showed up.
Confused, Peter packed up his things ten minutes into the class and wondered the now empty halls of the school to the office. He pushed open the doors, feeling the heat of the secretary's heater as he entered. He approached the desk, not sure as to what he was supposed to say. How do you explain that you think your entire class has been abducted by aliens? (and Peter was only half kidding with that thought. With his luck, it was a likely scenario.)
"Um, excuse me?" Peter asked.
The woman behind the desk looked up, offering Peter a kind smile. "Hello. Can I help you?"
"Umm, yes. My class hasn't shown up and I was wondering…I don't really know where they are?" Peter stumbled over his explanation, stomach twisting with nerves.
"Alright. What's your name and class?" the secretary asked.
Peter rattled of the information she required and rocked on his heels as he waited.
The secretary made a humming noise under her breath, her eyes flickering across the screen as she read the information available to her.
"Okay, so it looks like your class if on a fieldtrip today," the secretary said. She looked up to Peter, her face full of sympathy. "The bus left at 8:30 this morning."
"Field trip?" Peter frowned. "I didn't know we were going on a field trip."
"It says here that the permissions slips were to be handed back by last Friday," the secretary read off the screen. "Did you hand yours in?"
"I was out sick," Peter swallowed. "Nobody told me about the trip."
"Oh," the secretary blinked. "Oh dear, they must have forgotten to add a note in to call your guardian about it." She bit her lip and Peter could rapidly see her trying to think of a solution. "Let me just call the principal. Take a seat, Peter. We'll get this sorted out."
Peter nodded and trudged over to the seats that were available. He slouched in the chair, heart sinking in his chest. Hopefully they would just let him go home early. If they did, maybe he could go by the tower and see Tony for the first time in a week. He was surprised at how much he had missed his mentor and hanging out with him. He just hoped that Aunt May hadn't told Tony that in his delirious state, Peter had called him dad.
Ned couldn't believe that he had left his phone at home. He desperately wanted to text Peter and ask where he was. His best friend had said he was feeling better and would be there on Monday. Ned had been so excited to go a fieldtrip with his best friend. The last one they went one, Peter had been bitten by a radioactive spider. Ned couldn't wait to see what happened on this one. But when the bus had pulled up to take them to Stark Tower for their Field Trip, Peter still hadn't shown up.
Flash had been particularly smug, but Ned wondered if maybe Peter was just going to meet them there. It would make sense at Peter spent a lot of time at the Tower (and Ned still couldn't believe that his best friend hung out with Tony Stark!). Except, when they arrived and were ushered in and met by their tour guide, Peter wasn't there either.
"Mr. Harrington," Ned asked as he waited in line to receive a badge. "Is Peter not coming? Did he call in sick again?"
"Peter Parker?" Mr. Harrington said. "He's here."
"No, he isn't," Ned frowned.
Mr. Harrington lifted the clipboard that was tucked under his arm, flicking through their permissions slips. His mouth moved, but no sound came out. "Oh dear. I haven't got his. In fact, I don't think I gave him one."
"You forgot to give one to Peter?" Ned's eyes widen. Peter had no idea that they were on a fieldtrip. He was probably at school, wondering where everyone one was and because Ned didn't have his phone, he couldn't warn him.
"Oh dear," Mr. Harrington muttered.
Before Ned could protest, to demand they go and pick Peter up, it was his turn to receive a badge. He looped the lanyard over his neck and went through the security check, joining MJ who nose was in a book.
"MJ. I forgot my phone. Can you text Peter for me?" Ned asked.
Lowering her book, MJ eyed Ned. "He's not still sick, is he?"
Ned shook his head.
"They forgot to give him a permission slip, didn't they?"
Ned nodded.
"Typical," MJ said. She pulled out her phone, unlocking it and passing it to Ned. "Tell him I said people suck."
Ned grinned. He opened up a text message that had already been started (and Ned definitely did not snoop and see that Peter was the last to text MJ with a strong of emojies that looked like he was trying to flirt) and typed out a message to Peter. When he was done, he passed it back to MJ. "Can you tell me if he responds?"
MJ nodded, putting her book back into her bag.
"Alright Midtown! Welcome! Let's get this tour started, shall we?"
"And this is the intern lab."
Laurie looked up as she saw Emilie stride into the lab, a group of high schooler's trailing after her. They were the third STEM school tour group to come through this week and by now she was getting used to the interruptions. It was great to see students engaged and interested in what they were doing. Laurie would have killed to have had a tour like this when she was in school and she wanted to make sure it was a memorable experience for them all, so she made the effort to engage them all and answer any questions they had.
Laurie knew it would be a memorable time for them anyway because this group had the privilege of having Tony Stark in the room too. He had come down to the labs unexpectedly this morning to check on their progress, even though he wasn't due to do so for another few weeks.
When the group entered, Stark actually straightened, a smile tugging at his lips before he quickly schooled his expression.
"Guys, this is Midtown Highschool of Science and Technology," Emilie beamed. "and – oh! Mr. Stark! Hi!"
Excited whispers broke out as the students as they stared at the billionaire.
"Welcome," Tony grinned at the students. "Don't mind me. I'm just here to catch up on the interns' projects. I'm not here. And if Pepper asks, I'm in a meeting on the 57th floor."
The class laughed and Tony winked at them all.
"Hey," Dan sidled up to Sarah's side and whispered, "Isn't Midtown the school Peter goes too."
"Yes," Laurie said. No wonder the name was so familiar to her. It also explained why Mr. Stark was avoiding his meeting and spent the morning with the interns.
Peter Parker was Stark's favourite intern, even though he claimed he didn't have favourites. Nobody could be mad about this as Peter was a delight to have as part of the team. He was quick, smart and crazy talented. Laurie knew that even though Peter was fifteen, he could easily be attending university if he wanted too. Everyone agreed that Peter would go far in life and that they could one day say that they interned with him. Not only was he smart though, but he was kind and gentle and Laurie just wanted to adopt him.
(They would never say it within the wall of SI where FRIDAY was always listening, each intern had agreed that Tony had already adopted the boy.)
Laurie scanned the group of students. She frowned when she couldn't see the familiar curls of their youngest intern. "I don't see him."
"Huh, me either," Dan frowned beside her.
"But since you're here," Tony continued. "I may as well join in the fun. Now, Midtown, right?"
"Yes, sir," the class chorused.
"Great. Peter, where are you hiding?" Tony asked, eyes flickering over the class. His smile dimmed when he didn't see Peter.
"Mr. Stark, Peter's not here," a large boy at the front said.
"He said he was feeling better?" Mr. Stark's smile disappeared. "Is he still sick, Ted?"
"Ned," the boy corrected. "And no. He said he was coming today but…" he trailed off, looking nervous.
"The school forgot to give him a permission slip," a dark, curly haired girl spoke up.
Laurie's eyes widened and she nervously glanced at Stark. She swallowed nervously when she saw the tightness in his jaw and the way his eyes narrowed. She looked away and at the same time, took a step back with Dan. A quick glanced showed that the other interns, Josh, Andy and Daisuke,
had done the same.
"You know Peter?" the teacher asked.
"Peter Parker is my intern," Mr. Stark almost growled. "One of the best we've had, in fact. Did you forget to invite him on this trip?"
"Uh, well, Mr. Parker has been out sick all week and, well, I suppose we-" the teacher stammered.
"Yes, I know he's been out sick," Mr. Stark interrupted in a cold tone.
Laurie hadn't heard that voice since the incident involving a security guard who wouldn't let Peter through during his first week as an official intern. Sarah heard rumours that the guard was now the battered homeless man who lived a few blocks from the tower. Laurie wondered what would become of this teacher when Stark was finished with him.
"You're here for the day, correct?" Tony interrupted the teachers stammering.
The man nodded.
"Great. Excuse me, I'll be going to pick Peter up. Since his class his here, he may as well join and work on his personal SI project," Mr. Stark said.
"Mr. Stark, I'm afraid only Peter guardian can sign Peter out," the teacher cried as Stark made his way to the door.
"Oh, that won't be a problem," Mr. Stark said coolly. "As Peter's second emergency contact, I have permission to take him out of school."
Laurie could feel Dan's jaw dropping, her own practically on the floor, as Stark strode from the room. Silence followed him and a shocked stillness fell across the room.
"Um, okay, lets, uh, let's move on, shall we," Emilie finally managed to say.
Laurie remained frozen as the class eventually shuffled out in a flurry of whispers. The room feel silent once again as the interns were left remaining.
"Holy shit, maybe he did adopt Peter," Josh choked out from across the room.
"Daisuke, buddy, you owe me $20," Andy said.
"Damn it," Daisuke swore and fished a note from his pocket and shoved it at Andy who grinned.
Tony had calmed down by the time he reached Peter's school, but he was still angry that they had forgotten about him. Tony quickly schooled his features as Peter stood from the steps his had been sitting on and hurried to the car. The kid's skin was still pale and flushed looking, but he was sight better than the image May had sent him. Tony thought only Bruce could get that shade of green.
"Hey Kid," Tony greeted as Peter slipped into the front seat, clipping up his seatbelt when he was settled.
Tony fiddled with the heat settings, making sure it was warm enough for the Spiderling, before he pulled out into the traffic.
"Did you really tell me class that you are my emergency contact?" Peter asked. "and that you were coming to pick me up?
"No," Tony lied.
Peter frowned. "Ned said that you did."
"Maybe it slipped out," Tony shrugged lightly. He glanced at Peter before looking back to the road. "You mad at me?"
"No," Peter shook his head and fiddled with the seatbelt. "I don't mind."
Tony hid his grin. "Yeah?"
Peter gave Tony a shy smile. "Yeah."
"You up to working on your project today?" Tony asked. "The interns were excited to see you today and I know you were bummed about missing out last week."
"That's cool," Peter smiled. He continued to fiddle with his seatbelt until he finally spoke up again. "Ummm, would you mind, if you're not busy, could we just…hang out, maybe?"
This time, Tony didn't hide his smile. "Yeah, we can do that."
"Cool," Peter breathed with relief. "I missed you."
"Missed you too, kiddo," Tony said. "Sucked you being sick."
"Tell me about it," Peter groaned. "These powers are stupid."
Tony barked out a laugh, shaking his head. Only his kid would complain about superpowers now protecting him from the flu.
Happy reading :)
