It's the next morning. Liv and Fitz are in the kitchen with the kids. The night was eventful to say the least. Liv and Fitz rushed to where Victoria and Hunter were. Of course they could only think of the worse happening. Liv was a nervous wreck as they drove through the traffic to get to where they were. They got there only to find out, it was truly a freak accident. Hunter backed up on the tire spikes. It freaked him out and the kids started to cry and he kept rolling backwards, ruining all 4 tires in the process. It was funny once they got there, but not so funny to Liv and Fitz before they knew what happened.
Fitz and Olivia are sitting side by side watching their munchkins have their breakfast. The girls love pancakes and hot dogs. The boys love pancakes and bananas together. Of course it's a mess to watch but they wouldn't have it any other way. Rosie sits their food in front of them.
"Eat mommy," Ellie says.
Liv smiles, "Mommy's going to eat, if you eat."
Tommy brings a banana piece up to Fitz's mouth to eat. Fitz laughs, "Buddy, that's a little too mushy for daddy."
"I can feed daddy," Christina says, wanting to get to him. Teddy is too engrossed in his pancakes to care.
Olivia takes a moment to take the whole scene in. If someone would have told her this would be her life, she would have said no. A mother of two sets of twins with the husband of her dreams and a career she's running on her own terms. She just embraces the moment. Fitz reaches down, kissing her gently on the temple, "You okay."
"I'm perfect," Liv says.
"Last night was a freak accident but everyone is okay," Fitz says.
"I know. I know. I just...I feel so unworthy of all of this."
Fitz puts his fork down, to face her, "No one deserves everything more than you do," Fitz says.
"You spoil me," Liv goes in for a kiss.
"I am supposed to spoil you," Fitz says, kissing her back. As if they were coached, the kids all clap at the kiss. They break their kiss, forehead to forehead, "They approve," Fitz says. Teddy starts to cry, wanting out of his chair. He wants his mommy. He's the mama's boy. Liv starts to get up. "I'll get him," Fitz says, getting up to get him.
"More juice Mommy," Ellie says.
Liv smiles, "How about some water?"
Ellie shakes her head, "Don't like water."
"I want water," Christina says.
"I'll get it," Fitz says while holding Teddy in one arm. Tommy starts calling for Fitz.
"I got it daddy," Liv laughs getting up.
Victoria enters, "Permission to enter," she says.
"Just in time," Fitz says as he hands her Teddy. "I need to get Tommy."
"Good morning Victoria," Liv says, pouring the water.
"What's going on in here?" Victoria laughs. "Where's Rosie?" She can see the chaos in the kitchen. She sits down with Teddy.
"Right here Ms. Victoria. Can I get you something to eat?" Rosie says entering the kitchen
"Can I have some of your famous pancakes?"
"Coming right up," Rosie smiles.
Victoria sits down quietly. Liv looks in her direction and then back to Fitz. "How did you sleep?" Liv asks.
"Not good," she admits, passing teddy a piece of pancake. "Dad, I am really sorry about the car. We are going to have the tires fixed."
"Don't worry about it. I am just glad that it wasn't something more serious," Fitz says.
"But Hunter wants to pay for it," Victoria says.
Liv touches Fitz's arm. Fitz smiles, "Okay, he can pay for it. I'll get them done and let him know what the damage is."
"Thanks," Victoria says softly.
"Honey, the kids were just scared. They are just fine. They still love their sissy to death," Liv says, trying to make her feel better.
"Yes. Do you want to babysit them today?" Fitz jokes.
Victoria's eyes grow wide, as Liv and Fitz start to laugh. "I can if you want me to." Ellie passes her one of her pancake pieces, "Thanks," Victoria smiles.
"Mommy loves it when you share," Liv says to Ellie. She hits Fitz on the arm, "Your father is just kidding. He is just messing with you," Liv laughs.
Fitz goes over and kisses Victoria's head, "I am just kidding and I don't want you to worry about it. Like I said, I am glad it wasn't something more serious."
"We had a great time tho. The girls just loved playing in the ball pool. Hunter bringing the boys down the slide which they thought was super cool."
"Thanks for all the photos. Of course I am going to print them all and put them in their book."
"More water mommy," Christina says.
"No, I want more water Mommy," Ellie says.
"How about everyone gets more water?" Liv says.
Rosie sits Victoria's plate down. "I'll get it Mrs. Grant." She looks in Fitz's cup, "Would you like more coffee Mr. Grant?"
"Thanks Rosie! That would be great," he says, sitting Tommy securely on his lap.
"Dada," Tommy says, trying to pry Fitz's mouth open to give him a pancake.
Fitz opens his mouth and eats it. He makes a face. He looks at Victoria, "How serious are you and Hunter? I mean I know it's a stupid question considering but…"
Victoria is visibly nervous. She squirms in her seat. "What do you mean?"
"He's 21 years old and he took you and your baby brothers and sisters out. Most guys at 21 aren't looking to spend a night out with their girlfriend doing that," Fitz explains.
Liv smiles at Fitz. She knows this whole conversation is hard for him to have. "Your dad just means he must be really serious about you and we are glad that he is, considering," Liv clarifies.
"He gave me a ring," Victoria says, surprised.
"A ring," Liv says.
"What kind of ring?" Fitz asks worriedly as he glances at Liv.
"Not an engagement ring but something close to that. I guess like a promise ring," Victoria explains.
There's almost a sadness in Fitz's eyes, not that he didn't kind of expect it. Liv takes over, "Have you two talked about something more serious?"
"Kind of," Victoria answers cautiously.
"Like what?" Fitz asks.
"He wants us to get married when we graduate," Victoria says.
Liv surprises Fitz, "I'm not surprised. I mean he transferred schools to be closer to you."
"Shouldn't you two be focusing on starting your careers first rather than getting married," Fitz says quickly.
"Dad, I already got accepted into the intern program. It's almost an assured job," Victoria says.
"And Hunter?" Liv says. "We know he's graduating a year before you."
Victoria gets even more uncomfortable, "We aren't going to get married right away. But we want to get an apartment here in LA once I graduate."
Liv can see that Fitz is trying to be calm. "Did you talk to your mom about this?" Fitz asks.
"Yes, she thinks it's a good idea. She says, if we live together a little while, we will really get to know each other. Maybe we will figure out if it is the real thing or not," Victoria explains.
Liv can almost see the smoke coming out of Fitz's ears but for once she can't believe she's going to say what she's going to say. "Well, I actually agree with your mother," Liv says.
Fitz can't hold it anymore, "Liv!"
Liv tries to explain it calmly, "Fitz, I am not saying she should do it but it's a different time. I mean, maybe it's a good idea for them. You think they need to slow down. Maybe this will put some things into perspective for them, good or bad."
Fitz lets out a breath, "I think it's a bad idea."
"Dad, we see each other every day and we…," she stops herself, knowing that definitely won't win her case.
"But you are both in dorm rooms too," Fitz reminds her.
Rosie comes over, "Would anyone like anything else?"
Everyone shakes their head no. Rosie starts clearing the table. Liv looks at Fitz, "Look, let's talk about this at a later time. You need to get the boys to their appointments and then we have mom's birthday party.."
"I think we need to talk about this," Fitz says.
"And we will but at a later time," Liv says.
Victoria looks at Liv with a look of relief and thanks, "Yes, I want to go and get something for Grandma."
"This conversation is not over Victoria," Fitz says sternly.
"Okay dad," Victoria says as she starts up stairs.
"Fitz," Liv says
"I better go get ready. I have a meeting this morning and you don't want to be late for the boys appointment," Fitz says as he goes towards the stairs. He's trying to keep his anger in check.
Liv walks to the bottom of the stairs, "This conversation is not over Mr. Grant."
Liv shakes her head, knowing this is something that won't be diffused easily. Rosie steps in, "Mrs. Grant, he's a dad."
"I know Rosie but she is of that age and she's going to make her own decisions," Liv says.
"She will always be his little Pepperoni," Rosie says.
"Pepperoni," Liv says confused.
"Yes, she would eat it by the handfuls. She loved it. Mrs. Grant...I mean the former Mrs. Grant thought it was disgusting but he and would have pepperoni lunch dates. I think it was bonding time."
Liv smiles. "He's definitely a good father."
"Mr. Grant is a good man," Rosie says.
"Yes Rosie, he is. Liv says as she looks at the kids, knowing she has to get the kids upstairs and ready.
Abby comes over to meet Liv at the boy's doctor's appointment, so they can have lunch. They are waiting for Quinn. She left the girls home with Polly. Liv is deep in thought. The boys are jabbering away when Abby walks up,trying to squirm out of their seat.
"Earth to Liv," Abby says. Liv still doesn't react. "Earth to Liv," Abby reacts, finally pulling Liv out of her daze.
"Abby, I'm sorry! My mind is all over the place this morning."
"I can tell. What's going on?" Abby asks as she takes one of the boys and picks him up. "Which one is this?" Abby says with a laugh.
Liv laughs, "See the mole on his thumb, just like me. That's Teddy."
"Perfect. I wouldn't want my Godson feeling neglected," Abby says as she gives him a kiss. "What's going on?"
Before Liv can answer, Quinn walks up. "I'm sorry I'm late. I had to do a quick breakfast for 20 at the Warner Music building. They called last night. I threw something together," Quinn says, picking up Tommy. She looks at his hand, "I've got Tommy."
"How does she know that?" Abby says.
"She's very maternal," Liv laughs. Abby's face drops. "Plus she remembered what I said. Remember she and Charlie have babysat them. Don't worry! You'll get there. My kids love you. You'll be a great mother."
"Maybe…., if I go that route."
Liv and Quinn look at each other both surprised. "You don't want kids," Quinn says.
"I'm not sure and Liv is so fu..," she stops herself remembering the kids. "Liv is so perfect at it. I'll never be that good."
"You don't need to be me Abby. And God knows I am not perfect. I do my best, which is what every parent does, that cares."
Abby kisses little Teddy's hand. "I don't know if I am unselifish enough to do it. A child needs an unselfish parent."
"A child also needs a parent who is not afraid to say no or meet their crap head on," Liv answers.
"I loved when you told that person that in your column a few weeks ago," Quinn says. "I mean that person sounded at the end of their rope. They were ready to stop parenting."
"I can't tell you how many letters I get from parents who are dealing with kids with an addiction and they are just tired of their own tears. They just want to leave it all," Liv explains. "You read my column, thanks!"
"Of course I do," Quinn says. She stops, waiting to formulate her words, "Charlie and I are going to be parents in about 7 months. I need all the parenting tips I can get."
Both Abby and Liv squeal, "You're pregnant," Liv says. Quinn just smiles.
"I've gotta get my shit together," Abby says.
"When did you find out?" Liv says.
"A week ago. Charlie is so happy. I'm not even showing and he's acting like I'm gonna give birth any minute," Quinn says.
"He's an expectant father. Enjoy it! Fitz," she shakes her head. "After he found me in St. Lucia and found out I was pregnant. I couldn't walk. He tried to carry me everywhere."
"Well, you were carrying twins," Abby says.
"But we didn't know that then," Liv laughs. "I just mean, a man that really loves you. He loves that moment you tell him you are pregnant. You made a baby in love. It's the best feeling. Let him pamper you. Let him make a fuss. It's just him showing his love," she says grabbing Quinn's hand.
"I'm gonna freak out a lot. I'm gonna need you," Quinn says.
"And I'll be here," Liv promises.
"I'll be here too," Abby says.
Liv sips her iced tea, as she reaches over feeding Teddy a grape. Tommy starts to cry for one. She passes it to Abby to feed him. "Speaking of being a good mother...I guess I wasn't the best stepmother this morning."
Abby's looking at the menu as she looks up, "How so? Victoria loves you."
Quinn is rocking Teddy, "Abby's right. You lucked up in that department. Most stepkids hate the new mommy or daddy. She adores you," Liv shakes her head.
"Remember Fitz and I walked in on Victoria and Hunter? That's just now getting to a good place. Then last night Hunter" took her and the kids to Billy Beez," Liv starts to explain.
Abby puts her hand up, "Wait a minute. Stop the presses. A 21 year old guy took his 20 year old girlfriend out with both her twin siblings," Abby stresses.
"Yes," Liv says.
"When are they getting married?" Quinn says jokingly.
"That's exactly what I told Fitz. He's serious about her. I don't know any 21 year old who wants to take care of 4 and almost 2 year old kids? I mean, I know some of it has to do with him trying to make it up to Fitz and me about what happened, more so Fitz. But I think he's serious about her."
"She's his baby girl, Fitz will never be okay with her growing up," Abby says.
"I know but he has to let her grow up and let her navigate this relationship with Hunter. If he doesn't, it will make her fight for it even more," Liv says.
"So, what did you do wrong?" Quinn asks.
Liv laughs at the irony, "I agreed with Mellie."
"Well I'd be mad with you too," Abby laughs.
The waiter comes over and they stop to give their order. Quinn watches as Liv knows exactly what the boys want and she's being the momma on cue.
Liv looks at Abby, "Victoria and Hunter are talking about marriage and moving in together. Mainly, moving in together."
Abby laughs at Tommy trying to eat her finger. "Are you hungry buddy?"
"Mama," Tommy says looking at Liv.
"The food is coming buddy," Liv says.
"Well, Liv they are serious. I am not surprised they are talking about moving in together," Quinn says.
"And that's what I said to Fitz. He shouldn't be surprised they are talking about it. Yes, I understand him wanting to get their feet grounded in a job before marriage but them living together shouldn't be a surprise."
"It's just another reminder that his baby is becoming a woman. He knows Liv. He's just," Abby adds.
"A dad. I know. He definitely didn't like that I agree with Mellie. Mellie and I both think them living together might be a good thing. Maybe the test will prove for them to pass it or fail it," Liv says.
"I agree with you Liv and God help me, I agree with Melle," Abby says with a laugh.
Liv sighs, "Well, enough about parenting woes. What's going on with you Abby?"
Abby smiles, taking a bite of her food. "Well, funny you should ask. David proposed. I am making him sweat for it but eventually I'll say yes," Abby says.
"You can be such a bitch sometimes," Quinn laughs.
"Bitch," Tommy mumbles.
"Ooops," Quinn says.
"Bad word baby," Liv says to Tommy, wiping his drool from his mouth. "He finally says a full word and that. Wait until I tell Fitz," Liv chuckles.
"But, I have a business proposition for you Liv," Abby says
Liv and Quinn both look at her with apprehension. Everyone knows how the last business proposition worked out.
Fitz, Marcus and Cyrus are still sitting in the conference room after their meeting. They can both tell that Fitz is preoccupied with something.
"I thought the meeting went well. I didn't have to do my scary lawyer tactics this time," Cyrus says as he looks at Marcus.
"And I didn't have to give every possible scenario that says why their plans are screwed," Marcus adds.
"Yeah," Fitz says, still tapping his pen on his pad.
"Everything okay with Barbara," Cyrus asks. He can see the tension in Fitz's face.
"Everything is fine with Mom. She's all excited about her birthday party tonight," Fitz answers. "We have a lot to be thankful for. She's here with us."
"That's good," Cyrus answers.
"Kids," Fitz says. "Kids...that's my problem."
"Liv's pregnant again," Marcus says.
Cyrus catches his head, "Oh goodness."
"Just hope it's not twins this round," Marcus continues.
"Liv is not pregnant again," Fitz says as he focuses more.
"Thank God," Cyrus says faintly.
Fitz gives Cyrus a glare. "Victoria wants to move in with Hunter," Fitz explains.
"And you locked Victoria in her room the moment she said it," Cyrus laughs.
"I just don't think she would be trying to move in with a guy before she graduates," Fitz says with obvious frustration,
"What does Mellie think?" Marcus asks.
Fitz laughs, getting up from his chair. "Mellie thinks it's a great idea. They'll get to see if it is good for them in the long run or not." Marcus gets quiet. Not wanting to say what is on his mind. Cyrus sits back in his chair. "Liv thinks it's a good idea too. Looks like you agree with them," he says to Marcus.
"Listen, I totally get where you are coming from but...it might not be such a bad idea. If it doesn't work out, you can say you were right and comfort your little girl," Marcu explains.
"And you can kill him and hide his body in the process," Cyrus chuckles.
"Liv and I got into a little battle of words because of it and I know I was being an ass," Fitz admits.
"Well….make it right," Marcus suggests.
"Before you are coming to me for comfort because she put your sensitive daddy ass out," Cyrus says.
"Thanks so much for the support Cyrus," Fitz huffs.
"Listen, because of you and Liv, I am a father. You gave us a chance to be something we thought we wouldn't be, parents. I wouldn't change it for the world. I'm over protective of him so I understand. And, as luck would have it, we are expecting," Marcus reveals.
Fitz and Cyrus both look surprised. "Congratulations," Cyrus says.
"That's wonderful news," Fitz says.
"We were looking at surrogacy or maybe adoption again but," Marcus shrugs a little.
"That's great man. That's really great," Fitz says.
"This is why I am childless," Cyrus says as he gets a bottle of water.
"If it is a girl, you'll have to teach me what to do. I'll kill someone over my baby girl," Marcus says.
Fitz pats him on the back, "Welcome to fatherhood!"
Everyone has gathered at Big Gerry and Bibi's house to celebrate her birthday. The babies are in their chairs, smashing cake into their mouth. Bibi has blown out her candles on the red velvet cake with sinfully delicious cream cheese frosting. She savors the first bite. It's like all eyes are on her. She notices that everyone is looking at her.
"What?" she asks. No one says anything. They just look at her smiling.
"Can't we look at someone we love very much?" Big Jerry says. Bibi can't help but blush.
Fitz reaches for his mom's hand, "Dad's right. We love you very much. And we can't help it if this birthday is extra special to us."
Bibi shakes her head, "It's just red velvet cake."
"And we love to see you eat it Grandma," Victoria answers.
Bibi looks at her, realizing the importance of the moment. Liv smiles at her, "And you are alive and here to celebrate this birthday and we are so happy about it," Liv says, as she reaches over wiping the girls face. The boys are blowing spit bubbles with their mouth.
"Stop it mommy," Ellie says, which makes everyone laugh.
And in a typical twin sister moment, Christina has to put in her two cents. "More cake mommy."
Fitz is cleaning the boy's mouth. Liv smiles at Christina, "No more cake honey." Christina immediately starts to whine at the rejection. Liv tries to quiet her down.
Bibi can't help but be emotional at the moment. "Let her cry. It is a beautiful sound," Bibi says. She looks around the table at her son and daughter and their children, her grandbabies. She looks at her husband. The same man she never thought she would let back into her life but there he is and she can't imagine him not being there. "I was scared I wouldn't see this birthday. I was scared I wouldn't hear those babies laugh or cry. You are right. This birthday is very special. I'm gonna fight like hell..to play with my babies again. Drive on my own. Most of all, put my own clothes on."
"I'm not complaining," Big Gerry cuts in.
"Your son is sitting here and he's too young to hear that," Fitz says. Liv slaps his arm.
Bibi gives Gerry a scolding look, "What I am saying is, I want my independence back. I want to be the Barbara Grant that I recognize, that I know. But, I don't regret that this has brought us even closer together as a family. Maybe we needed that." Everyone smiles at the sentiment.
"I would like to say something," Victoria pipes in.
"You have the floor sweetheart," Big Gerry says.
"Grandma, I wanted to give you something special for your birthday. You always say that there is nothing you need because our family's been blessed with so much. So, I talked to dad and Liv and they thought my idea was perfect. It's kind of an idea before a present. I made an appointment for us to go take family pictures. If you like the idea," Victoria says. Fitz and Liv are smiling from ear to ear. In that moment, Fitz remembers his wonderful little girl that is turning into a mature young woman.
"I love that idea. A Grant Family photo sounds like the perfect healing medicine," Bibi says with so much excitement.
Big Gerry winks at Victoria, "That's a perfect idea. Now, I kind of feel bad about my gift. My little granddaughter here has a better gift than I have."
"I'm sure it's flashy, too much, and absolutely perfect," Bibi laughs.
"Well, we never took that trip to Greece. I say it's time we do it," he says, passing the two tickets and itinerary out of his pocket.
"You remembered," Bibi says.
"I can't forget. I would never forget. We were supposed to take that trip before I fuc…," he stops, looking over at the kids. "I fudged everything up."
Fitz looks at his dad, proud of the man he's become, "Good job Dad." Bibi reaches over as much as she can, kissing him.
Fitz grabs her hand, "Liv and I couldn't figure out the perfect gift but then we remembered how much you love the water and Hawaii," Fitz starts, as he looks over at Liv, a little emotional.
Liv finishes for him, "So we decided, especially right now, with your rehabilitation. You won't be able to travel and check on your shops and sit on the beach, so we got this for you," Liv finishes.
Fitz gets up, getting the large wrapped frame. He unwraps the paper, it's a picture of her prized pottery shop and a picture of her house by the water. Bibi is floored. "This is an incentive for you to get well so you can steal away to Hawaii again, you and dad. So you can get those hands back to working on your creations."
Bibi can't help but let the tears flow. "I love you all so much. You are my reason I keep going."
"We finally broke her down," Big Gerry chuckles.
"Shut up, you ass," Bibi says pointedly.
"Ass," Tommy says quickly. Everyone looks in his direction.
Liv buries her hand in her face. "Second bad word today."
"What?" Fitz says.
"I'll tell you later," Liv chuckles. She looks over at Tommy, "Bad word baby."
"No mama," Tommy says.
"No mama," Teddy repeats.
Everyone laughs. Bibi smiles, "We are going to have to watch ourselves. We have ears."
Fitz looks at the boys, "How about some good words? Say, Yay Grandma!"
The boys look at Fitz, a little confused and Tommy starts to clap his hands and Teddy follows clapping his hand. Everyone else at the table clapped with them saying, "Yay Grandma!" Tommy stops and drools, "Yay Grama!". Teddy just claps, saying, "Yay!"
Bibi smiles, "That's close enough."
They spend the rest of the night, enjoying each other and celebrating Bibi. A moment that the Grant Family won't soon forget.
Two Weeks Later:
Liv and Fitz are having breakfast at Creme de la Crepe. It's one of their go to spots when they want to have a nice romantic brunch without the kids. Maya and Levi have come in for a few weeks to spend time with her and the kids. They took the kids to Disneyland for the day. Fitz is feeding her a bite of his fruit.
"This was a great idea," Liv says.
Fitz bites his lip. "Are you saying that because you like nibbling my finger or because this fruit is actually good?"
She drapes her hand over his thigh, squeezing it slightly. She's much too close to balls for them to be in a public place. "Hmmm, I like nibbling your fingers and other very delicious parts of you," she winks.
Fitz clears his throat. She is rubbing him a little faster and faster. He groans again, "Livvie, we should have just had breakfast in bed this morning."
She quickly moves her hand as she straightens up. Fitz's face is red. His ears are red beyond reason. She can't help but laugh at her accomplishment. "You okay baby." Fitz squirms in his seat as the waitress comes to the table.
"Can I get you more coffee?"
"Yes please," Fitz says clearing his throat.
"I think I'll have a mimosa," Liv says.
"Coming right up," she says as she walks away.
Fitz surprises her by cupping a feel of her under the table, "Tonight I am going to you a good rub down. Just me and my fingers and….." without saying a word he moves his ring around her center in front of her pants.
Liv hitches her throat, "You better," she says as they kiss tenderly. They feel like teenagers.
The waitress clears her throat, coming back with Fitz's coffee and her mimosa. "Would you like something else?"
"That will be all for now," Fitz says as she turns and leaves. Liv looks down at her phone with a slight frown running across her brow. "Are you okay?"
Liv takes a breath, "I am good but my mom hasn't called. I hope they are okay with them. They are a handful."
"I am sure they are okay. If they weren't, the park would have called us," Fitz says.
"I suppose you are right," Liv says. She traces her fingers with his. "I love you. You know that."
"I love you," Fitz says. "You are the smartest woman I know, aside from my mother."
"Oh yeah, how so?" she smiles.
"About how to handle this situation with Victoria. I don't want her to resent me. There are some paths she has to walk whether it ends up good for not. You are right," Fitz explains.
Liv caresses his face, "And she decided to wait until she graduates to move in with him. You let her make that decision on her own. And her reasoning should have made you proud. She wants to be able to pay her own way. You pay for her apartment now and…."
Fitz shakes his head, "And he's probably spending a lot of time there."
Liv chuckles, "Yes he is but I think her decision was a good one."
"She's my first born."
Liv moves her chair closer to him, "Baby, she's gonna be fine."
He reaches over and kisses her, "Just promise me you'll let me lock the girls in their rooms until they are 30. They can marry then."
Liv rubs her finger across his lips. "We will negotiate." Fitz lets out a soft moan.
Before he can answer, a familiar voice is heard approaching them. The voice starts to speak, "We keep running into each other."
Fitz looks up to see Stephen standing there. Fitz immediately gets up from the table. "Fitz, don't," Liv says.
"You aren't supposed to within 200 yards of her," Fitz says, looking around. He knows they are soon to start a scene.
"I did not know either you were here, Fitz," Stephen starts. He looks over at Liv, "I didn't know you were here."
"I thought you were going to Seattle," Liv says. She immediately regrets it, knowing she didn't have a chance to talk to Fitz about them running into each other before. Fitz whips his head around looking at her.
Stephen speaks up, "I hit the road tomorrow. I still have a few friends left in this town. They are throwing me a party tonight. I was just mailing some last minute boxes next door."
"And you expect me to believe you aren't following my wife," Fitz says. You can almost see the steam coming out of his ears. "I am going to call the police."
"I have not been following Olivia," Stephen says.
The restaurant manager makes his way over, "Is everything okay here?"
"Everything is fine sir, I was just leaving," Stephen says trying to avoid an ugly scene or the need to defend his life.
Liv gets between them, "Fitz just let him go."
"You leave this town. You never come near my wife again. If you do, I will kill you this time," Fitz says in a low tone that is laced with venom.
Stephen looks at Fitz and then to Liv, "I told you before, I am sorry about everything. You mother in law was right, I got a second chance and I am not going to waste it." He walks away slowly, "You have a wonderful life and I mean that." And just like that, Stephen disappears into the distance.
The onlookers are staring. They realize whatever the situation is, it has been diffused. Fitz sits in his seat. She can see he's seething. She's about to speak, "When were you going to tell me?"
"Fitz, before we fight, I wasn't trying to keep the truth from you. I wasn't," Liv says.
"But you did and it sounds like my mother did too," Fitz says angrily, trying not to raise his voice.
"Don't blame your mother for any of this. We were having lunch. I had taken your mom to her therapy session and she was feeling down, so I thought lunch would be good and we ran into Stephen," Liv explains.
"I am supposed to believe he just ran into you two at lunch," Fitz says.
"I can't answer for him but that was the first time I saw him since the trial and again just now," Liv says. Fitz just stays quiet. She can see the wheels turning his head. She can tell he's biting his tongue. "Just say what you want to say Fitz."
"He should be in jail, Liv. He should be serving time for what he did. For what he tried to do. You let him off easy. You made that decision and you knew I was against it after what he did to you and to us," Fitz says.
"Fitz, I did what I thought was best, especially for me."
"You once again made a unilateral decision about our family," Fitz says getting up. He starts walking down the sidewalk. "I'll see you at home."
"We came together," Liv says, shaking her head.
Fitz looks at her, shaking his head, "That's about all."
Liv is surprised by his answer. She knows that something else is on his mind and she thinks she knows exactly what it is. She has to make this right.
It's later on that night. Fitz has been keeping himself busy in his office until he knew he had to shower and come to bed. He didn't want to say something he couldn't take back to Liv, so he stayed clear and she gave him the room he needed. Maya and Levi decided to stay another night at Disneyland and take the kids to Knotts Berry Farm. Liv didn't argue the point. To be honest, she and Fitz really needed the quiet time. She's researching some things after Abby's proposition. Fitz comes out of the shower. He gets in bed, turning on his side. Liv studies him.
She softly rubs his rib cage, "Can we talk?"
"I think we talked enough," Fitz says.
Liv puts her book down and places it on the nightstand, "I don't think we did."
Fitz lets out a labored breath, "Liv," he says pleadingly.
"I want to know what I did, Fitz. You opened this pandora's box when you said what you said. I think I should be able to defend my point here or at least understand what got us here," Liv explains.
Fitz turns to face her, sitting up on a pillow, "You really don't know."
"I guess I don't. I mean I know me siding with Victoria didn't go over well but that shouldn't have anything to do with Stephen and what happened."
"It's not about Victoria. It's about you Livvie," Fitz shakes his head.
"What unilateral decision did I make?" She asks. Her eyes are asking the questions that aren't coming out of her mouth.
"He should be in jail, Liv. He tried to rape you. He could have hurt our boys if he had gotten any more physical with you."
"But he didn't rape me," Liv says.
"But he could have. He didn't just go to that party and have a breakdown, He planned it. He had intent and you just let him get away with a slap on the wrist."
She tries to softly rake her fingers across his chest. It doesn't help to diffuse his anger, "He didn't get away. He was punished."
"Not to my liking," Fitz says as he gets up, not upset.
"But," Liv starts.
"You didn't take into account what I wanted. You are my wife and he hurt you. You weren't single. We are supposed to be making decisions together when it comes to our family," Fitz stresses.
"I let the charges stand Fitz, like we discussed."
"And then you made sure he wasn't punished too harshly," Fitz says as he rests his elbow on the fireplace.
"I'm sorry. I did what I thought was best...for me, I guess. I'm sorry I didn't let you have a say. I wanted to close that chapter of my life with Stephen in a way that I could live with it. He was there when I needed him at one time and regardless of what happened, I just thought," she stops, getting up and walking over to him. "I'm sorry. I really am."
Fitz looks at her, "You didn't owe him a damn thing."
"I know that. I just...I want to be the strong one," Liv says.
"You have me Liv. You always will. You can just make decisions about us without including me, do you understand?" Fitz says as they are now eye to eye.
"The way I did when I ran off to St. Lucia," she turns away, he didn't want to hit this note but it can't be avoided. "You are still hurt."
"I didn't want to be, but I am. There is a part of me that will always wonder what would have happened if I hadn't found out where you were. I'll always wonder," Fitz says.
"I'd like to think I would have done the right thing, eventually," Liv says.
"But you decided you didn't need to be a burden to me and you just left, knowing you were pregnant with my child."
"I didn't want to make things worse for you," Liv says.
"But in reality you did. I was devastated. I was dead inside because you decided what was best for us, which was leaving me," Fitz says sadly.
"And I was wrong. I get that."
"Now I have to worry if one day, Stephen will decide to come after you again," Fitz explains.
Liv brings his face into her hands, "He won't."
"If he tries, I'll kill him and I mean that," Fitz says sternly. He pulls her into his arms by the waist. Their bodies are pressed against each other, "You are my whole life. You and the kids are the reason I breathe. Do you get that?"
She lays her head on his chest, "I get it. You are my whole life too. I don't know what I would do without you….without them."
"I'd die without you," Fitz says. "I love you," Fitz says, lifting her head up to look at him.
"How about we show each other?" She suggests.
"I think I can handle that," Fitz says, swiftly scooping her up in his arms. She giggles in delight. He lays her out on the bed and begins to slowly make love to her. They decide that night that their marriage is about open trust with any issue.
Thank you everyone who has loved this story. It's coming to end but it's been a ride writing this version of Olitz. There will be a time jump in the next chapter. Until next time...
