Chapter 75

October 7th

We have been working diligently on these employees for the last three days; putting them into the computer and making charts and different diagrams, trying desperately to find connections. It's been extremely difficult for me to look at Ryuzaki, every time I do I flashback to that night. I don't know how he's handling being cuffed to Light, if it was me, I'd be aching to get away from him and into someone's arms, but maybe he got it out of his system. Must be nice, I'm sitting over here dying because he's all I can think about. Sometimes I get lucky and get into the zone and can work for a good while, but then I turn to ask Ryuzaki something about the case and I'll see him as I did that night, shirtless, sweating, and on top of me. Then I have to turn back to my computer and hope it's not too obvious that I'm blushing.

. . .

I'm trying to focus on this chart I'm looking at and not think about the look of pure bliss on Ryuzaki's face that night, but so far I've only made it three names in and it's not going well. He and Light are working on their own computers while the Chief and Matsuda are at the table behind us. As for Mogi, well I have no idea where he went, he's so quiet all the damn time I normally only notice when he comes back.

As if on cue the door opens and I turn to see if Mogi got us coffee, but to my shock it's two people I've never seen before. I jump to my feet, alerting everyone else who does the same. We're about to start asking how they even got into the building when Ryuzaki turns his chair around and stands to join us in the semi-circle of confusion that we've made.

"Relax everyone. This is Aiber and Wedy."

The man, who is dressed in a pinstripe suit, moves his sunglasses to his head which brushes back his blonde hair. "Hey, I'm Aiber." He puts his hands in his pockets and stops a few feet in front of us. "I'm a professional con artist, nice to meet you all."

The women with him is in a long coat and what looks like a Russian hat, she stops beside him and looks bored. "I'm Wedy, I'm a thief by trade."

Now I know why Ryuzaki wouldn't tell me any more about them.

The Chief seems to be reasonably skeptical of the two. "A con man and a thief?"

"Yes." Ryuzaki starts to explain. "Aiber is an expert when it comes to languages, psychology and personality transformation. He possesses the skills to blend into all levels of society and can always forge a strong bond with his target. We'll use him to get close; Wedy on the other hand is a thief who can get past any lock, security system, and vault. The proof of her skill is that she was able to get into this building without any of us knowing." Damn… "They're both seasoned…criminals."

The Chief immediately feels uncomfortable with this. "We'll be working with criminals?"

"They're slightly different from the criminals Kira punishes and they've never been caught so it's highly unlikely that they'll be targeted by him. These two are pros, only known in the underworld. I also know of other criminals who could help us if needed. Of course, none of them want to show their faces and I will only show mine to those I trust. Not to mention some of them would have to live with us." Ryuzaki pauses and looks at me for a second, as if he's uncomfortable with the idea, then looks back to the others. "This is a tactic I couldn't really use while we were connected to the police, but with the way things are now…" He trails off and the Chief groans and tries to object, only to be interrupted by his son.

"I understand how these kinds of people will be helpful as we investigate Yotsuba, so let's work together and solve this case." Light's excitement seems to convince his father, and of course, Matsuda is always on board for everything so he's ready too.

"Matsuda?" Ryuzaki turns and goes back to his seat, the chain tinkling as he climbs into the chair.

"Yes Ryuzaki?" If Matsuda was a dog, his ears would be perking right now.

"Could you get our guests and I some coffee?" His excitement immediately drains as Ryuzaki asks him to do yet another menial task.

"Sure thing." It's like watching a scolded puppy, you just can't help but feel terrible, so I get up and go with him as Aiber and Wedy take a seat with the Chief.

"C'mon Matsuda, I'll help you." I give Ryuzaki a look before I head to ask what our new guests would like to drink.
