Day 2 - 9:30Pm
"Kagome? Is that you dear?"
Kagome awoke with a startle. She had fallen asleep in the tub. 'Oops.' She thought.
"Yes mama, it's me!" Kagome called back. She splashed her face to wake up, quickly stepped out of the tub, careful not to slip, and wrapped a towel around herself.
"I'll be out in a minute!" Kagome yelled out.
"Ok dear, I'll be downstairs. Oh, and Souta should be back with your grandfather soon." Ms. Higurashi said as she made her way back to the kitchen.
Kagome grabbed her dirty clothes and quickly made her way back to her room. The last thing she needed was for her mother to see her with all the little love bites.
She reached into her dresser and grabbed a blue set of long sleeved pajamas, putting them on and towel drying her hair before racing downstairs to see her mother.
"Hi mama!" She bounced into the kitchen where her mother was preparing a late snack and getting things ready for the morning. "How was your day?" Kagome asked.
"Hello Kagome, it was good, what about yours?" She answered.
Kagome had never been one to hide things from her mother, but how exactly did she have this conversation without lying to her about her day? She wasn't ready to tell her everything, but maybe she could tell her a little bit?
"It was good. I made a new friend actually...well I guess I got on better terms with an old enemy." She started.
"Oh?" Ms. Higurashi set down a cup of tea in front of Kagome as she began to sip her own. "Who might that be?"
"Um, do you remember Sesshoumaru?" She asked. Half hoping she didn't.
"Sesshoumaru… Inuyashas' older brother? The one that tried to melt you when you first met?" She recalled.
Kagome laughed a little awkwardly but nodded anyway. "Haha...Uh, yeah… That Sesshoumaru."
"You guys made up?" She asked.
"Well, sort of…there was never really any bad blood between us, he was just always indifferent." Kagome said, shrugging her shoulders and fiddled with the cup in her hand.
"I see, well that's good. I am happy to hear that Inuyasha and his brother are now getting along." Ms. Higurashi said, a twinkle in her eyes.
"Huh? Oh! No, actually I don't believe they have spoken to each other for a few months." Kagome clarified.
"Oh?" Ms. Higurahi said, sipping her tea delicately.
"Yeah, I uh, actually ran into him yesterday and we got to talking, turns out he's a lot kinder than he first let on." Kagome answered with a little blush.
"What made you guys start talking?" Her mother asked, though the tone in her voice had Kagome thinking she knew more than she let on.
"Um, it's hard to explain really…" Kagome looked up and her mother raised an eyebrow, telling her to go on. "He was in a bit of a predicament and he figured I could help him out…" Kagome finished.
She was starting to get nervous. If she was struggling with such simple questions, she sure hoped her mother didn't ask anything too difficult to answer.
"What was the predicament?" She asked, and Kagome all but groaned.
"Well… apparently … Sesshoumaru loses himself to his more… instinctual side during the lunar eclipse…which was yesterday..." She was searching her brain for ways to say things without saying them, but all she could think about was how Sesshoumaru had looked when she first saw him yesterday.
"Go on." Her mother encouraged when she realized Kagome had started to daydream.
Shaking her head to refocus she continued. "Right! So he was starting to lose himself and it just so happens that my Miko energy is able to calm him down."
"I see, so that's how you ended up talking to him and learning more about him?" Kagome's mom summarized.
"Exactly." Kagome nodded with a smile.
"And that's the reason you ended up staying with him all night." She said.
"Yea...wait...what?" Kagome stuttered.
Ms. Higurashi sipped her tea again before answering. "I saw you leaving yesterday when I got back. I figured you would be coming back soon since you left all your things here, but you didn't come home until now."
"Uh mama, I can explain." Kagome was mortified. Her mother was a lot sharper than she realized.
Ms. Higurashi put up her hand to stop her. "No need. I am just glad you are safe. Besides it seems you were able to gain a new...friend."
Kagome blushed, smiled and nodded.
"Good, now how about we pick this up tomorrow? Your grandpa and Souta should be here any minute now, and I think it's best for you to wait and see them till tomorrow."
"That's ok, I'm not really tired, I can wait up for them." Kagome said.
"I am sure you can, but they might have a few questions regarding those hickeys on your neck." Kagomes' mom countered.
Her hand instantly flew to her neck and she blushed furiously, but before she could say anything in her defense her mother just chuckled lightly and ushered her back upstairs.
"We can talk all about it tomorrow morning if you'd like." She said.
Kagome looked down at her mother and shyly nodded her head. "Yes, I'd like that very much." She said before giving her mom a big hug and running back up the stairs.
She got to her room and her heart thudded rapidly. She couldn't believe what had just happened. Turning to face her mirror she saw what her mother had seen. Right at the junction of her neck was a hickey with what looked like two little teeth indents. She had been so focused on hiding all the rest in her body that she had forgotten about the one that her hair had covered.
'Well at least she didn't sound upset.' She thought graciously.
With a huge smile on her face she got into bed and did her best not to think about Sesshoumaru or the seven days before she could see him again. She failed, miserably.
