Erin rummaged around in her dresser trying to find the exact clothes she wanted. But because she'd been wearing them non stop and she had baby brain she had no idea where they were and she was getting frustrated, especially when a contraction would take over.

She heard the door open and Jay climbing up the stairs as quickly as possible, he raced in the bedroom and found her mid contraction gripping onto the dresser, "Breathe Er, thats it."

As she breathed through it and it subsided, she loosened her grip and titled her head towards him, "Hey you."

"Hey baby," he leant down to kiss her, "How far apart?"

"Still a little bit, about eight minutes apart and last for about a minute, but my back is killing me."

"Here come here," he carefully stood behind her taking her weight as he rubbed hard circles on her lower back, "Better."

"Mmhm," she mumbled, "Jay I can't find the clothes I want to wear in the hospital."

"I chucked them in the dryer before work, I will go grab them. You going to be okay for a second?"

"Yeah. What's happening with Lily she should be waking up soon." Erin questioned.

"Natalie is swinging by in an hour to pick her up, I called her on the way here because intelligence caught a case so Kim and Adam had to go in." He explained.

"Okay. I will just add the last couple things to my bag while you go grab those clothes, then you need to do a bag for yourself, or I can. Yeah I will..."

He spoke quickly cutting her off, "Er just focus on you and stay relaxed. I will be two seconds then I can help you with your bag and I can do my own bag. The baby's bags already waiting at the front door."

"Lily needs a bag too!" She softly yelled out as the realisation kicked in.

"Got it!"

Jay quickly ran to the laundry trying not to be too noisy, the longer Lily stayed asleep the less freaked out she'd be and the less Jay would have to explain what's going on. He was also hoping Natalie would get there soon so she could check on Erin and say whether they should go to the hospital now or not. Especially with her last pregnancy.

He grabbed the clothes, then made his way back to their bedroom. He saw Erin hunched over rocking side to side leaning on the end of their bad, breathing heavy through another contraction, "Your all right, breathe Er."

Zeus who was on sitting on the bed suddenly stood up and approached Jay who had his hand on Erin's back, he growled a little which made Jay look up confused, "It's okay bud, I'm not going to hurt her. Try not to scream babe, I don't want him to kill me."

"He...he knew...that the baby...was coming." Erin breathed out, as the wave finally ended.

"What?"

"He was right at my side on the bed as soon as the contractions woke me up, he must have sensed it was time."

Jay patted Zeus's head, "Good job buddy."

"Car seat is installed right?"

Jay smiled and nodded, "Yeah babe. I done it this weekend remember."

"Okay. Okay yeah, sorry I know."

"It's all good. Now what do you want me to do?"

"Help me change into these."

"Sure thing." He smiled and started helping her change when he heard the front door open, he knew it would be Natalie she'd said she was nearly there so he left the door unlocked when he got the dried laundry. He heard footsteps approaching and then light taps at the door.

Just as Jay helped Erin pulled her tracksuit pants on, they heard Natalie speak, "Knock knock, it's just me."

"Hey Nat, come in." Erin said as she sat back down on the end of the bed.

"How we doing?"

Erin rubbed the lower part of her belly, "Keen to get this little guy out."

"I bet, waters broke yet?" Erin shook her head, "And how far apart are the contractions?"

"Uh I have been timing them, about eight minutes apart and they last for about a minute." Erin explained as Jay continued to rub her lower back.

"Okay good. Well I don't think you need to go to the hospital just yet, but I'm happy to stay until your waters break or your contractions get closer together."

"Thanks Nat, I appreciate it." Erin smiled.

All of a sudden they heard Lily's voice over the baby monitor, "The little monster is up, I will go get her."

Jay walked off and Erin started feeling another contraction coming on, she grabbed her phone and started the timer again, Natalie came to her back and took some of her weight, "That's it Erin, breathe through it."

Once that contraction ended she stood back up trying to catch her breath, "How far apart was that?"

Natalie looked down at the phone, "Six minutes now. Did that one feel a little bit more intense?"

"Yeah, my back is killing me." Erin nodded, leaning onto the bed.

"Want me to heat up some heat packs?" Natalie asked.

"That would be great thankyou."

Natalie got up and walked out of the bedroom, and found Jay and Lily in the kitchen, "Noonoo!"

Natalie smiled at the name that spilled out of Lily's mouth, the little girl had been calling Nat this forever, "Hey little cutie. Uh Jay, do you have a heat pack?"

"Yeah sure," he ran to grab it then came back putting it in the microwave, "I might go up if you want to watch Lily."

"Yeah absolutely, I will put something on TV and bring the heat pack up when it's done. She just had a contraction, now six minutes apart so hopefully her waters break soon then she can head to the hospital." Natalie explained.

"Thanks Nat, really for everything."

She smiled back at him, "Don't mention it. And I'm sure the babysitting duties will be returned when I have this little one."

"For sure."

Couple more hours had passed and Erin was now pacing backwards and forwards in the bedroom, as well as every now and again swaying on the medicine ball. But she couldn't get comfy, this labour was nothing like Lily's. With her she barely had time to wrap her head around it all happened and this was taking a while, she'd already been doing it for three hours.

She looked up and saw Jay approaching, "Jay!"

He grabbed her hand that was reaching out for him and placed himself behind her, once again interlocking their arms so he could support her weight while gently swaying side to side.

"That's it baby, your doing great."

"I want to go to the hospital." Erin said suddenly.

"Re..really?" He felt her nod, "Let me get Nat."

"No just stay with me for a second." She said wanting to keep the pressure on her back.

Nat appeared a few minutes later, "Lily's occupied watching Pepper Pig, how are we going in here?"

"Erin wants to go to the hospital." Jay said.

"Okay how about we get you walking up and down the stairs, it might help break your waters naturally?"

Erin nodded. And with Jays help walked or more waddled towards the stairs. She started walking up and down then slowly, preparing herself felt the next contraction that was in the next couple minutes.

She was one minutes out from the contraction when Lily came to see what the adults were doing, Jay picked her up, "Is mummy okay?"

"Yeah mummy is okay," he kissed her temple, "The baby is coming Lil bear."

"Yay! Little brother!" She squealed and then her face fell when Erin bent over, clutching Natalies hands for balance, "Mummy is hurting daddy."

"I'm o..okay baby. I'm okay." Erin got out between her breathing.

"Come Lily what do you want to watch now? Frozen?" Jay said as he walked off with her.

"But I want to stay with mummy." She tried wriggling out from his hold.

He hold on tighter as he took her to her playroom, "How about you paint a picture for your brother? I'm sure he will love it!"

"That's a great idea!" Lily shouted as he put her down, she quickly ran over to her little desk and started drawing.

"I will be back in a minute baby, just going to check on Mumma." He explained, hoping she would continue drawing and not follow after him.

"Okay daddy."

"Good job Erin. In through the nose out through the mouth." Natalie coached, and once the contraction ended and they got to the top step for what felt like the hundredth time Erin's waters broke.

"Ahh I forgot how gross this is." Erin said as she awkwardly moved her her legs up and down in the puddle.

"Jay!" Jay quickly sped up, "Well that worked."

"Let's get you changed, Jay do you want to clean this up? Then I think it's time we get you to the hospital."

"Okay."

Natalie took Lily to her place while Jay took Erin to the hospital, Lily wasn't happy about it at the start. Wanting to be with her mother but once again Erin promised Lily that she was okay and that soon she got to see her little brother. So in order to do that she had to be a good big sister and go with Natalie.

The hospital ride was thankfully not like the last one, they got there with plenty of time to spare. Although contractions in the car weren't something Erin was real thrilled about.

"Nearly there babe." Jay said reaching over to squeeze her hand.

"Ahhhhhhhh! Fuck!"

"Try controlling your breath babe, like this." Jay coached as he tried multitasking.

"Shut the fuck up Jay!" Erin snapped back, "Sorry, I'm sorry." She said calming down.

"Don't apologise, look we are here. Come on let's get you to the maternity ward." He let Erin's hand go and opened his door to get out and help Erin.

She grabbed his hands tightly as she wiggled her way from the car, luckily a couple nurses seen them and got her a wheelchair.

Jay wheeled her up to maternity and luckily she was admitted, coming at the perfect time. She was halfway through, which surprised them because she read that usually after your first baby all the rest were quick and easy but Erin was the complete opposite.

Since she'd woken up with contractions it had now been about nine hours and she was only four centimetres dilated. And they were getting worse and closer together.

Jay didn't know how his fingers weren't broken, he was constantly applying pressure to the bottom of her back as she leant on a medicine ball facing the bottom of the bed, bent over. And he had no idea if it was even helping.

Marley Erin's midwife was a saint. And Jay realised that while Erin was in labour he was at the bottom of the food chain, of course it went the baby, the doctor, the midwives, air, the ground they were standing on and then of course him. Although he felt like he was getting in the way, every time he'd move Erin's hand would reach back for him. She wouldn't say anything but it made him know that he was wanted.

"How about a shower Erin?" Marley suggested, Erin nodded quickly. Maybe the hot water would help.

Jay stood in the shower with her holding the tap to her lower body as his wife swayed side to side, this was so different from the last time. He hated watching her in this much pain.

"Jay I can't do this anymore." Erin said defeatedly after four more hours and only one more centimetre dilated.

"You got this babe, your doing okay." He kissed her forehead.

Dr Proundman came in to check on things once Erin was back in bed, "Hey guys, how we doing in here?"

"Doc she's been at five centimetres for the last few hours, what's going on?" Jay asked.

"Sometimes these things happened, but the baby's heart rate is a little low so we want to keep an eye on him, Erin try rolling onto your side sometimes that can help." They helped Erin get comfortable or her side and breathe through another contraction, "There we go baby's heart rate has gone back to normal. But we will keep an eye on it. Be back soon Erin."

"Jay."

"Yeah babe?"

"I want the epidural."

"Okay, you sure?"

"Yes, I know I said I didn't want it but..."

He rubbed her forehead, "You are going on ten hours I think it's safe to say you have worked for it."

The epidural done wonders and definitely quickened everything up, she went from five to ten centimetres in just under two hours.

Dr Proudman was checking everything out when she noticed the baby's heart rate drop again, "Hey Erin, the baby's in distress, I'm worried about his heart rate. I think it's best if we do a c-section."

"What I don't...no..Jay?" She said sadly, "I want to push. Please I don't want a caesarean."

"Erin the baby isn't coming, the safest way for the both of you is to deliver him via a c section, everything's going to be okay."

Jay squeezed Erin's hand, "Dad if you want to come with me I will get you into some hospital scrubs." Another nurse said.

"I don't want to leave her."

"It's okay, we have to get her prepped anyway and then we will take you right up to her." She said giving a comforting smile.

"Okay. I love you Er, be back in abit. We get to see our little man soon."

"He's going to look just like you." Erin said before kissing Jay goodbye. She was so overwhelmed, she didn't expect this.

Jay sat beside Erin, talking to her to try keep her mind on him and not the baby, she hated the sensation of what they were doing. It wasn't painful but just an odd amount of pressure.

He kept over hearing them say 'need more pressure' or 'baby's in distress' but he needed to block it out so Erin would focus on him.

"You know I purposely forgot to put the handbrake on when the 300 nearly ran into the shop front."

"Why?" Erin said, a little out of it.

"Because I wanted to show you how good my cat like reflexes were."

Erin chuckled, causing Jay to laugh aswell, Dr Proudman spoke up, "Nearly there Erin, your doing great."

"I'm so proud of you babe." Jay said leaning down to kiss her forehead then he leaned over the sheet blocking her from seeing what they were doing, "She's got a real steady hand, we will get to meet our little guy soon."

"Yeah?" Erin started zoning out, Jays voice was fading in the background. But she became aware again when she heard the sound of baby screams and cries filling the room.

"Here he is!" Doc said holding the little guy up so they could see him, "Congratulations, you have a very healthy boy."

"Good work baby." Jay said over the moon.

"Congratulations daddy." Erin said once again zoning off as Jay squeezed her hand.

Jay was so mesmerised by his son who was getting wrapped up in a blanket, then the nurse bought him to Jays arms, Jay took hold, forgetting how small babies really were, "Here you go daddy."

He couldn't help but well up, in absolute awe. His son was perfect, "Hey buddy, here meet your Mumma."

Jay tilted the baby too Erin, "Say hi to mummy," she started tracing her hand along his tiny little fingers, but then she started closing her eyes and as Jay was talking to her and she was zoning out he became concerned.

"Er? Er? Erin?"

"Need more suction here, she's losing a lot of blood." Dr Proudman said to her team.

"What's going on?" Jay asked, panic in his voice.

"Sir your going to have to come with us, we will take the little guy. We have everything under control. Everything's going to be fine."

And before he could blink he was ushered out to the waiting room, his baby taken from him and his wife who was now probably fighting for her life alone without him.
