Will ran through the waiting room doors to find his brother pacing back and fourth. He knew Erin was in labour but hadn't gotten a chance to pop in and say hi. But when he had seen her on the schedule for a cesarean he went to check in. But only stressed when he was told Erin passed out from the amount of blood she lost and that they were doing everything to stop the bleeding.
He knew straight away Jay would be losing his mind so he set out to find him. He walked over and once his brother saw him they hugged quickly before sitting down, "They made me wait out here. Uh, she lost a lot of blood. And they told me to wait out here."
"I know man. I know."
"I just want to know what's going on. But I don't know anything because they made me wait out here. I couldn't uh do anything." Jay said sniffling.
"These things can happen, usually an easy fix I'm sure she's going to be fine." Will said squeezing his brothers shoulder.
"I can't do this without her man."
Will shook his head, "Don't even go there, it's not going to happen. Erin is a fighter and there is no way, absolutely no way she'd go out like this."
Jay slouched into the chair and sighed, wiping his eyes, "You have a nephew."
"Really?"
"He is amazing man, it's so crazy. I forgot how small babies are."
"I'm so proud of you little bro, you have come such a long way. When I finally became a father figure to Owen, you were the one I looked up too. Not dad, he was never the best father but you...you are exactly what I wanted to be."
Jay smiled, "Wow man, uh thanks. I guess we have both done pretty good, it's not easy but having two strong woman beside us sure does help."
"Yeah they definitely are superwoman."
"Not wrong. So when are you going to make it official with Nat? Surely you've thought about making an honest woman out of her."
Will grinned and went abit blush, "Well."
"Really man?"
"I was going to ask you after shift to come help me pick out a ring, but then..."
Then reality hit Jay and he remembered where he was and that he was waiting for news on his wife, "Shes going to be okay isn't she?"
Before Will went to say anything the doors to the waiting room opened and a nurse walked through, "Family of Erin Halstead?"
Jay and Will stood up quickly, "Yeah I'm her husband."
"We stopped the bleeding, was nothing major just a laceration to the incision site but it's all fixed up now and they are moving Erin to recovery where she will have to stay for about five nights. While she is still waking up though would you like me to take you up to your son?" The nurse said kindly.
"She's okay?" Was all Jay said, tears forming in his eyes from happiness.
She nodded, "She is and will be. Recovery might be a little tougher then her last natural labour but I assure you she is fine."
"Thankyou," Jay smiled then turned to his brother, "Uh Will..."
"It's all good I can wait here and make some phone calls for you if you like?"
Jay shook his head, "No I was actually going to ask if you wouldn't mind coming with me? You are his uncle after all."
"Of course man." Will smiled, patting his brother on the back as they followed the nurse.
Jay couldn't believe it, he had a son. And he was beautiful, amazingly beautiful. He was a lot bigger then Lily, no wonder why Erin was so uncomfortable this pregnancy, but she done well. So well. He couldn't wait for her to wake up so they could share this moment together, he felt somewhat guilty that he was holding his little boy in his arms while his wife was in recovery but he couldn't do anything for her just yet and he knew that she would want him with Alec.
Alec Henry Halstead, it had the perfect ring to it and suited him perfectly. Will stood by his side stroking his nephews cheek, "He is amazing Jay, you done well."
"Erin done well, it's all her. I'm so glad she's okay man. I really don't know..."
"I told you, you didn't have to worry." Will said cutting him off.
"Want to hold him?"
He smiled and took the little guy, "Wow. He's so small."
"Actually a lot bigger then Lily from what I remember but still so small. It's crazy how quick they grow up."
"I can't believe I'm going to have one in five months."
"Maybe we can schedule some babysitting, you know get you use to it." Jay laughed.
"Haha. Funny, I know how to take care of babies Jay."
Jay took his son back softly, cradling him in his arms, "We'll see."
"So you got a name for the little guy?"
"Erin might kill me for telling you without her but Alec Henry Halstead."
Will smiled, "Suits him perfectly. And Hank will love it."
"Hope so. We uh...used your name for Jake...otherwise we would have..."
Will understood what his brother was trying to get out, he squeezed his brothers shoulder and gave him a soft smile, "Man, you don't need to explain anything. I'm honoured that Jake got my name and I'm so so okay with Alec getting Hanks."
"Thanks Will, really thanks. For everything."
A nurse walked in and interrupted them, "Mr Halstead?"
Jay whipped his head around, "Yeah?"
"Mrs Halstead's awake, do you want to bring your son up to meet his mummy?"
"I wouldn't love anything more," he looked down to meet Alec's eyes, "Let's go meet your Mumma little guy."
Alec fussed the whole way up to the maternity ward where Erin was located, but as soon as he was in his mother's arms he settled immediately. Will let the three of them have a little time by themselves, they definitely needed it.
Jay didn't say a word for a few minutes, just sat on the edge of the bed and watched Erin nurse their son, he could definitely get use to this again. It had been a long time since Erin had breastfed Lily and it was the most beautiful connection to witness
"You scared me there for a sec."
Erin looked up to meet Jays eyes, "I'm sorry. But look, we have a son."
"That we do. He's perfect." He traced circles on the small infants cheek.
"He's a lot bigger then Lily, no wonder my pregnancy got uncomfortable towards the end." She let out a small chuckle.
"Atleast that's all over now, now we have the next fun bit, taking this little guy home."
"I'm sorry Jay."
He frowned, "What, why?"
"Because I couldn't have him naturally, that you nearly lost me, because this little guy came a tiny bit earlier..."
"Erin. Babe. None of that is on you, first of all he wasn't even early, two weeks off his due date is considered full term, secondly you not being able to have him naturally is not your fault. Sometimes these things happen, you done everything you could babe and we got an amazing son out of it and thirdly it was scary but I didn't, we didn't. We're all okay."
Erin smiled and puckered her lips for Jay to lean down and kiss and he happily obliged, "I love you, you know that."
He shrugged, "Yeah I mean it's pretty obvious."
She nudged him slightly, "Just say it back you idiot."
"I love you too Er."
"I can't wait for Lily to meet him, she's going to be the perfect big sister."
"I feel like she's going to be a bossy little thing that's going to follow you around everywhere and want to help out with him every chance she gets."
"Would we want it any other way?"
They both chuckled, "Not at all."
When Erin and the little guy were having a little rest he sent out a message with a photo of Erin holding the little guy saying that he had arrived.
'Alec Henry Halstead. 8 pound, 9 ounces. Born two weeks early by c section but both mummy and baby are happy and healthy. I will let you guys know when Erin and the little guy are up for visitors, they will be in here for a few days.'
He sent it to the group, everyone excluding Hank. Jay definitely wasn't telling Hank about the arrival of his grandson by message so as soon as he sent that message he called Voight.
"Good evening Halstead, what are you ringing for on your RDO?"
"I have some good news, we have a son."
"Really? When did Erin go into labour? Why didn't you ring?"
"She didn't want anyone knowing and seeings though I happened to have the day off it was easy to keep it under wraps."
"Uh huh. How are they?"
"The little guy is healthy, nearly nine pounder..."
"Nine pounder? No wonder Erin was getting crabby towards the end of her pregnancy."
They both chuckled before Jay continued, "Erin is all good now. Baby was in distress once Erin got to 10cm so he was delivered via c section. Erin lost a little too much blood then usual so she passed out but they got it all under control and she is on her way to recovery. Might be in the hospital for about five nights."
"Take all the time off you need."
"Thanks Sarge. So I was ringing aswell because I'm sure she would be thrilled if she had a visit from you."
"I will be there in 10."
Hank tapped on Erin's hospital room lightly before the couple looked up, waving him in. He slowly walked over and peeked over to see the newest member of the family.
"So does the little guy have a name? Everyone was being weird and secretive when I left the district." Hank said with a hint of annoyance in his voice.
Jay chuckled, he had quickly typed out another messages after the first one introducing the newest member,
'Don't tell Hank his name, we want to tell him in person.'
Jay carefully took Alec out of Erin's arms and placed him in Hanks, "Meet Alec Henry Halstead."
Hank met their eyes at the mention of his own name, he was utterly surprised but so touched and honoured.
"Really?"
Erin smiled, "You like it?"
"I love it, but you didn't have to."
"We wanted to, you do a lot for us and you mean a lot to our family. Me included, I don't think we would have gotten this far without your help so thankyou." Jay spoke up.
Hank extended his arm, still holding Alec securely in his other arm for Jay to shake, "You keep making me so proud, the both of you."
"Thanks Hank." Erin smiled, and when Alex started fussing again she held out her arms, he settled straight away once he was close to his mother.
"Has Lily met him yet? She's going to be thrilled. I still can't believe you didn't tell anyone Erin went into labour!"
"Well Nat and Will knew, but only because Nat picked up Lily but we thought it would be a nice surprise," Jay smiled, "And they should be here any minute, it's been about an hour or two and Lily will go down in an hour so we thought she'd like to meet her brother beforehand."
"Do you want me to take her for the night?" Hank asked, looking between them both.
"Jays going to take her home," Jay shot Erin a look, "Babe you can't do anything for me here, me and the little guy will be okay. Lily needs you too."
"Promise it's fine?"
She nodded, "Yes."
The door slowly creeped open, "Knock knock. We have a very eager big sister out here."
"Come on in." Jay yelled out, opening his arms for Lily who ran towards him. But once she saw Erin she changed her path and made a b line for the bed trying to climb onto it but Jay swooped her up, "Easy there, mummy is a little sore so we have to be careful and you have to be very gentle around the new baby okay?"
"Okay." She nodded and Jay slowly put her down on the bed for her to admire her new brother.
All the adults watched Lily, wondering how it would play out, Lily crawled slowly toward her mother and brother, "That's my brother."
They all chuckled, "He sure is, you have a very important job now, you gotta look out for him always."
"I'm going to be the bestest best big sister ever." She beamed with excitement.
"Shhh sweetheart," Erin said softly, "Now if you sit next to mummy, you can have a hold of him? How about that."
She nodded quickly and sat next to Erin, Jay watched Erin stiffen, it was still quite painful for her to move without some assistance, "Careful Er, here let me move him."
Jay took his son while Erin wrapped one arm around Lily and got a pillow settled infront of her and when Jay placed Alec down Lily couldn't believe her eyes, she started gently stroking his cheek, "Baby brother."
"You want to know his name?" Erin asked kissing the top of Lily's head, she nodded, "Alec."
"Alec," Lily softly repeated, "And he's ours? We get to take him home?"
Once again the adults chuckled, and Jay kissed Erin's cheek, "Yeah we get to take him home."
