The Class Pet

"Welcome home Sir Pig!" Morgan declared, holding up the guinea pig as high as she could.

Sir Pig, the name Morgan's class had formally called the pet, made a squeaking noise, head whipping back and forth, little legs kicking out.

"Careful," Tony cautioned. "Pop him back in the cage, Mo. Let him get used to his new surroundings. No! Not on the floor, in his cage."

"How is supposed to get used to our house if he's in his cage?" Morgan pouted up at her dad.

"Because the cage is his home," Tony explained gently. "Pig would get lost in our house and you don't want to lose him, do you?"

"No," Morgan shook her head and carefully placed Sir Pig back into his cage.

Tony breathed a small breath of relief, making sure the cage was secure before he picked it up.

"You can put it in my room, daddy," Morgan jumped up and down.

"Oh no," Tony shook his head. "I know you would try and sneak him into your bed. No, Pig is staying in the living room by the window."

Crossing the living room, Tony set the cage up on the space he had cleared before he had gone to pick up his daughter. The class pet was about teaching the kids responsibility and while Tony loved the idea, he was not looking forward to looking after one for a week. It was bad enough with Gerald who kept eating his berries and anything else he planted. He did not need a guinea pig ganging up on him too.

("Gerald is not ganging up on you." "Pep, you don't see the way he looks at me!" "Like you're a crazy person because sweetheart, that's how everyone looks at you." "The animals are against me!")

"I can't wait for Petey to meet Sir Pig," Morgan grinned at Tony. "Daddy, when is he coming over."

"Later," Tony said with a smile of his own. He felt the same excitement as his daughter did that Peter would be coming over to spend the week. The kids' school had given them a week off for a teacher's conference that was happening. Peter did have homework that needed to be completed during the week but there would be plenty of time for them to spend tinkering in the lab and just spending time together.

Tony managed to distract Morgan (and himself if he was being honest) from Peter's impending arrival and they were both pleasantly surprised when he walked through the door with Pepper.

"Petey!" Morgan squealed, launching herself into Peter's arms.

The teenager caught her easily, swinging her up and into his arm. "Hey Mo! Hey Mr. Stark!"

"Tony, kiddo," Tony shook his head as he followed his daughter at a much slower pace. "When are you going to call me Tony."

"But your name is dad," Morgan frowned. "Petey, call him dad."

Tony grinned widely as Peter's cheeks went bright red. He winked at Peter and laughed when the kid tucked his face into Morgan's hair. Tony looked over to Pepper who was watching them with amusement. Neither of them minded if Peter called Tony, dad. In fact, both were secretly hoping that he would. They had come a long way in the year since Thanos had been defeated and had only grown closer. Even May was subtly trying to encourage Peter to do so.

"Peter, are you hungry? I can get dinner started now," Pepper asked, saving Peter from any further embarrassment.

"Always," Peter said, lowering Morgan to the floor and quickly escaped into the kitchen with Pepper.

Of course, Morgan and Tony followed. Morgan scrambled up on to a seat while Tony went to Peter, wrapping an arm around his shoulder and pulling him into a side hug. He pressed a kiss to Peter's temple which only made the pink flush on his cheek glow brighter.

"Welcome home, kiddo," Tony said. "Where's your stuff?"

"In the car," Peter squeaked out. He cleared his throat and scrubbed at his cheeks. "Thanks for having me over for the week."

"Any time," Pepper assured Peter. "You are always welcome here."

"Yeah!" Morgan cheered and the gasped. "Mum! Can Petey live here with me and Sir Pig?"

"Sir Pig?" Peter frowned, glancing up at Tony.

"Ah, our latest house guest," Tony squeezed Peter's shoulder and stepped away to grab the plate Pepper held out to him. "Morgan's class has a pet guinea pig and this week, we are hosting."

"He's going to sleep in my room," Morgan beamed.

"He's sleeping in the living room," Pepper said firmly.

"Can me and Petey sleep in the living room? So Sir Pig doesn't get lonely," Morgan asked, looking pleadingly at Pepper.

"Pete, you up for a sleep over in the living room?" Tony asked.

Peter shrugged with a grin, the colour finally leaving his cheeks. "Sounds like fun."

"Yes!" Morgan cheered.

"You can set up later," Pepper said as Morgan went to slip off the chair. "Dinner first. Why don't you help set the table with your brother."

Pepper smirked at Tony as Peter's cheeks flushed red again and the teenager ducked his head, moving quickly to get the cutlery.

Dinner was a fun and loud affair, one that left Tony feeling complete. He loved watching his kids together, so grateful that the two of them got along despite the age gap. Once upon a time Tony never would have thought that this would be his life and yet here, he was, surrounded by his family feeling content and happier than he had ever felt before.

After dinner they cleaned up and Peter, with his cheeks still rosy, went and brought down the mattresses to the living room. When it was all set up, Morgan proudly showed Peter Sir Pig.

"Cool," Peter cradled Sir Pig close to his chest, gently running a finger down his spine.

"Does your class have a pet, Petey?" Morgan asked, gently stroking Sir Pig.

"No," Peter pouted. "We had a fish once though, in third grade." Peter's nose wrinkled and he brought up the hand he had been using to scratch Sir Pig to rub his nose.

"I'm going to teach him how to sit," Morgan said determinedly.

"Not tonight," Tony said, scooping Sir Pig out of Peter's hand. He moved to the window, slipping him back into his cage before covering it up with a blanket. "It's time for him to go to sleep and for you too."

Morgan made a whining protest while Peter rubbed his eyes, giving a little yawn.

Tony narrowed his eyes at Peter, looking at him carefully. His cheeks were still flushed, and his eyes were looking a little red. "Are you feeling okay, Pete?"

"Fine," Peter smiled at him. "I'm a little tired. I patrolled earlier today."

Tony nodded but gave Peter another searching look. The kid did look tired. He would have to review Karen's footage later to see what happened on the patrol and if he needed to be aware of any injuries Peter was hiding as he was prone to doing.

"Come on," Pepper said, climbing to her feet and holding out her hand for Morgan to take. "Teeth and then into bed."

Morgan scrambled to her feet once Peter had and grabbed his hand before taking Pepper's. "Come on Petey! You can use my toothbrush."

"Uh, that's okay," Peter said hurriedly. "I brought my own."

"Does it have ponies on it?" Morgan asked as Pepper started leading her towards the stairs. "Mine does."

"No but mines blue," Peter said.

Tony smiled as he watched his kids climb the stairs, a dopey smile on his face. He was the luckiest man alive.

Tony jerked awake, bolting up right. He turned at the soft but firm hand on his arms.

"It's okay. Breathe. Everything's okay," Pepper coached. "FRIDAY was trying to wake you."

"Sorry Boss," FRIDAY said as Tony sucked in a shuddering breath and tried to calm his racing heart. "Peter seems to be having trouble breathing."

"What?" Tony choked out. He shared a panicked look with Pepper before he was swinging his feet out of bed. He hissed as his feet hit the cold floor, but he ignored it, hurrying out of the room, Pepper right on his heels.

FRIDAY had already turned the stair lights on, and Tony all put flew down them. As soon as he was down, he was striding into the living room.

Morgan was fast asleep, star-fished across half her mattress and half of Peter's. Peter was lying on his side, face pinched in sleep. Above Morgan's soft snores, Tony could hear the wheeze in Peter's breaths.

"That doesn't sound good," Pepper murmured. She bent down, scooping up their daughter into her arms.

Morgan shifted but thankfully didn't wake.

"Put her on the couch," Tony directed and Pepper gently placed Morgan onto the couch, covering her with a blanket.

"Pete? Hey kiddo, wake up," Tony gently coaxed Peter awake, trying to keep the panic from rising in his chest.

Peter's eyes fluttered against his cheeks as he started to wake, and he drew in a wheezy breath.

"M'ark," Peter slurred before he started coughing.

"Easy," Tony said, putting his hands under Peter's shoulders. "Come on, sit up."

Tony helped Peter sit up, rubbing his back as Peter coughed. He finally sucked in some wheezing breathes and Tony hissed as he took in the red, watery eyes.

"What's going on?" Peter wheezed.

"FRIDAY woke us, said you were having trouble breathing," Tony explained.

"Why am I like this?" Peter looked to Tony with wide, watery eyes. "I don't feel –"

"FRIDAY," Tony quickly cut Peter off. He was not up to hearing those words from Peter's mouth again. He was already having trouble keeping the panic at bay.

"Peter appears to be showing symptoms of an allergic reaction," FRIDAY said.

"An allergic reaction to what?" Pepper frowned.

"Oh," Peter wheezed out. "I forgot."

"Forgot what?" Tony demanded.

"Allergic to guinea pigs," Peter wheezed, shooting the covered cage a sad look. "Thought the spider bite had cured it."

Tony sighed. "Oh kid."

Peter winced. "Sorry."

"Take him upstairs and into our room," Pepper directed. "Get a cool compress to put on his face and I'll grab an antihistamine."

"You heard mum," Tony said, helping Peter onto his feet. "Let's go."

Tony directed Peter to the stairs, keeping a firm hand on his back as he trudged up them slowly. He didn't remove his hand until he had Peter settled on the bed. He moved quickly to the bathroom, wetting a washcloth and hurrying back to his kid. With gentle movements he wiped Peter's face, feeling rather than hearing Peter's sigh of relief.

"Sorry," Peter mumbled when Tony removed the cloth.

"Not your fault," Tony said softly. He placed the washcloth back into the bathroom before heading back to Peter. "Alright, scoot up."

"Huh?" Peter blinked at him tiredly.

"You, scoot into bed," Tony said.

Peter made to stand up and Tony shook his head fondly, placing a hand on the teenagers' shoulder to stop his movements.

"This bed, kiddo. You're sleeping in here with us."

"But-"

"No buts," Pepper said, striding into the room. In her hand she held a glass of water and a sleeve of tablets. She passed them to Tony who popped out the dose and placed them into Peter's slack hand. "You're sleeping here. Take those and then hop into bed. I'll go grab Morgan."

"Lucky we sprung for the big bed," Tony said, taking the glass from Pepper, giving her a wink. He turned back to Peter who was looking at them dumbly. "Go ahead. Take them."

Slowly, Peter brought the tablets to his mouth. He popped them in, then took the glass from Tony and washed the tablets down with the water. He grimaced before handing the glass back to Tony.

Putting the glass on the bedside table, Tony manoeuvred Peter into the bed, slipping in beside him. He grabbed one of the extra pillows, tucking it behind Peter.

"This is the part where you lay down," Tony said. He smiled with amusement as Peter sat upright, looking dazed.

"I – I can sleep here?" Peter blinked.

"Well yeah, kiddo. You're not sleeping downstairs with the Sir Pig. This should be far enough for you," Tony said. He gently put felt Peter's forehead for a temp. "You're a little warm. The meds should start kicking in."

"Oh my god," Peter whispered. "You're a dad."

Tony snorted. "Yeah, kiddo. What gave it away?"

"You're my dad," Peter swallowed and looked to Tony. "When…when did this happen?"

Tony looked at Peter fondly. "Well, Pep and Rhodey said it was before…. You know. I have to agree."

"Oh my god," Peter whispered again.

"Is that okay?" Tony asked carefully.

"This is like, the greatest night of my life," Peter said, breaking out into a smile.

"Kid, you're literally having an allergic reaction," Tony said, dead-panned.

"Yeah, but I have my dad to take care of me," Peter beamed.

"Lay down or your grounded," Tony chuckled.

Peter did as he was told, snuggling into Tony's side, eyes falling shut.

Pepper strode back in with a still sleeping Morgan in her arms. She gently tucked her in beside Peter before slipping into the bed herself. She smiled over at Tony before FRIDAY dimmed the lights into nothing.

"Night dad," Peter mumbled, already half asleep once again.

"Night kid," Tony whispered back, placing a kiss to Peter's still warm forehead before settling down beside his family.
