Chapter 79 – Senate Meeting
It has being 2 days since the past events that ended with the death of Shira but sadly with the dead of an innocent.
Since then, all the people involved had meetings, interrogations, the usual protocol. Also they had the funeral of young Joel and that was very difficult to handle, especially for Wedge, the one that Joel save by stepping in front of him, not to mention about the future of his little sister Iris. Luke promised him he would watch over her. She was not force sensitive but he couldn't let the little girl to be alone in this world.
Today there was a meeting in the Senate to discuss the events, and especially the threat that Shira told before she died.
Luke was watching all the Senators gathering below him. He already gave his speech, telling them who Shira was and what she did on his wedding day, almost killing Ines and their baby, and now what she planned to do.
Ines appeared next to him, having their sleeping baby on her arms. Luke smiled at him and stroke his son's head, running his fingers on his brown hair. He didn't know what he would do if Shira touched a single hair of his baby.
"How is it going?" she asked looking at the Senate below them.
"Not well. But you arrived in time. Leia is about to speak"
Looking at the Senate, Leia came forward.
"Senators, we knew this would happen. If you ever thought that with the dead of the Emperor, everything would be fine from that moment on and we could live our lives without any problem, then I'm sorry but many of you need a reality check. The fact that for months we don't have any news from the followers of Empire, it shows they are doing something in the shadows. They are smart. They are using our tactics. Staying quiet, staying low, making us believe they are gone and then attack when we are vulnerable. Now we know that is not true. The last event gave us an advantage. We know they are out there. So we will not get by surprise. With the new Jedi Academy opening in 4 months, we will have more people on our side. What we need to do is stay united, now more than ever, or we will end like the Empire and everything we went through years ago, will be in vain" she finished her speech and sat down again.
Luke nod
"She's good" he said smiling
"Yes she is" Ines replied.
As the meeting ending, Luke and Ines went to Leia's office. They already had plan to went there, to have a private meeting with her and Ackbar and Mon Mothma, also Han and Chewie were there as well.
Once they entered in the office, Han and Chewie were already there.
"Hey Han! Chewie" Ines said sitting on the couch, making sure Ben didn't woke up.
"Hey kid. Did the meeting end already?" he asked
"Apparently. You should watch Leia, she was amazing" Luke said sitting next to Ines grabbing his son little hand who opened and grabbed his finger, but didn't woke up.
"She is amazing." Han smiled "In everything" he smirked
"Oh come on Han, I don't want to know those things about my twin, please" Luke said rolling his eyes. Han will never changed
In that moment Leia entered in the office with Ackbar and Mon Mothma.
"That was a good speech Senator Organa" Admiral Ackbar said
"I agree. Some Senators need to realize that the Empire is still out there" Mon Mothma agreed as they all sat down.
"So how did it ended?" Ines asked them
"We decided to be more attentive, to patrol more systems and get our eyes opened." Leia replied "And how is everything?"
Luke sighed
"Well everyone was already questioned about what happened and it was an evidence that Shira was indeed trying to take our son and she was the one who almost killed Ines and our Ben back in our wedding day."
"What about the kid who died?" Ackbar asked
"He died as a hero. If he didn't stand in front of Wedge, he would be dead right now." Han told
"How is Wedge by the way?" Leia asked
"What do you expect. He felt guilty" Han replied
"Which he is wrong. I should have known Shira would try to do something like that" Luke sighed.
Luke in a way also felt guilty. But he had something that was bothering him for 2 days.
"I want to know what is going to happen to his little sister?"
Everyone looked at each other. The fact that the death of Joel, meant he left a child alone, with no one, was sad.
"Well the poor girl doesn't have anyone. The only family she had was her brother" Mon Mothma answered
"So what now?" Ines asked looking at her
"She will get to an institution. Being 7 years old, it is not good for her." Mon Mothma sighed sadly.
"So, does that mean that poor girl will be alone, without a family to love her?" Ines said and looked at her baby and then to Luke.
Luke knew what Ines was feeling. He couldn't let that happen.
"I made a promise to her brother that I would not allow anything bad will happen to his sister." Luke said
"What are you saying Master Skywalker?" Ackbar asked
"Ines and I will take care of the girl and raise her as our own" he said looking at Ines who smile. They already had talk about it.
"Luke, you and Ines already have to deal with a 3 months old baby and with the Academy" Leia said
"We will handle it. We can't let that poor girl be alone" Ines told Leia.
"Leia is right. You two already have to much to deal. Leia and I will adopted the girl." Han said making everyone looked at him.
Leia smiled at Han.
"Han are you sure you want that?" Luke said.
"Yes. That girl deserves to have a family who will love her. And she will be loved with me and Leia and have a family." Han said smiling.
"Han and I will adopted her. She will be our daughter" Leia nod
"Then we will arranged that right away and you can get the girl in the institution later on" Mon Mothma said, heading to a monitor and started to get everything ready. After a while she looked at Leia and Han
"I need the girl's full name. Organa Solo?" she asked them
"Yes" Han said but Leia replied right away
"No." everyone looked at her
"What do you mean Senator Organa" Ackbar asked her
"Her name will be Iris Skywalker Organa Solo" she said making Luke and Ines looked at her with wide eyes. "My daughter will have my two last names: Skywalker from my biological family and Organa from my adopted family" seeing Mon Mothma and Ackbar looking at her with a question expression on their faces, Leia sighed. "It is time to accepted my biological family. Luke and I are twins. Our parents are Senator Padmé Amidala and Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker"
Luke smiled at his sister. Leia was accepting her real family little by little and he was letting her doing at her own terms.
Seeing the shook in the Senators faces, they explained everything, letting the Darth Vader part aside. That was something that nobody was still ready to know.
Later that day:
Han, Leia and Luke entered inside the institution where it takes the children without family. Mostly of them were bigger, which was sad, since it was difficult to get a family.
Luke looked at some of the children. So far he didn't sense any force sensitive children which made him sad. Be he would be attentive to that place.
Han and Leia was talking to the responsible for the place and asked for the girl, finding her alone in a corner.
Leia heart broke seeing that little girl alone. She was adopted as well but her story was different from that poor girl. But she would make sure she will love her and give her the best life she deserves.
Walking towards her she sat down next to her
"Hey Iris" she smiled as the girl looked at her with her big brown eyes
"Hey" she said sadly.
Han crouched in front of her
"Hey sweetie do you know what we are doing here?" he asked her making the girl shake her head
"We are here to take you with us." he said stroking her hair
"What do you mean?" she asked
"We want to be your mother and father" Leia said "Now do you want to be our daughter?" she asked
The little girl looked at Leia to Han and then to Luke
"Really? Does that mean I will not be alone?"
"No sweetheart." Luke replied
"What do you say?" Han asked "Will you hug your father?" he said opening his arms and smiled when Iris wrapped her arms around his neck and picking her up, Han kissed her cheek "I'm your father and you are my daughter"
Iris looked at her
"Father" and then to Leia "Mother"
"Yes my love" Leia said as she hugged them and kissed her cheek
"What about you?" Iris asked to Luke
"I'm your uncle" Luke replied, as Han put the girl down and she hugged Luke, that smiled at her.
"Come on. Let's go home sweetie" Leia said and grabbing her daughter's hand, they went home.
Luke watched them with a smile on his face. They will be great parents. He will take care of his niece too.
Well the Senate and the New Republic now are in alert. And Han and Leia adopted Iris that from now on will be called: Iris Skywalker Organa Solo.
