Chapter 80- The Little Sister

After Michael left, Skye carefully made her way over to the door and locked it. Kendall texted Skye asking where at the hospital she wanted to meet her.

Skye huddled in the corner crying and finally twenty minutes later, she heard knocking at the door.

"Skye? It's Kendall. Open up, okay?"

Skye cradled her side and went over to open the door. When Kendall stepped inside, Skye locked the door again, then hugged Kendall and cried into her shoulder, forgetting about all the arguments, the pranks, and attempts to make the other jealous.

"What's going on? Did something happen in therapy?" Kendall asked. "What's wrong? You're shaking…"

"Is—Is my mom okay?" Skye asked through quick and short breaths.

"I haven't heard any updates," Kendall said. "But she's strong, I'm sure she'll be okay. But what happened this evening? Why are you so upset?"

Skye let go of the hug and turned away from her. "I—don't de—deserve you."

Kendall laughed a little. "Well, I don't care if you think you don't deserve me. You're the only person that gets me." She walked around Skye and squeezed her upper arms. "Skye… look at me."

Skye slowly looked up at her.

"You're my friend and I'm not going anywhere," Kendall said gently but firmly.

"You—You shouldn't have c—come."

"What? Then I should've just ignored your phone call when you obviously needed someone? You're visibly upset, you're shaking, your breathing is shallow. What's wrong? Did something go wrong in therapy or did someone hurt you?"

Skye cried more in response causing herself to wince through the pain.

"Take some deep breaths, okay? Deep breaths."

Skye tried to take a deep breath, but it only caused a strong pain in her chest. "I—I can't… It hurts…"

They jumped a little when they heard someone try to open the door.

"Go away!" Kendall yelled, then turned back to Skye. "What hurts? Talk to me…"

Skye placed her hand over the right side of her ribs.

"What happened? Did you injure yourself?"

Skye nodded. "P—please t—take me h—h—h—ome. Then g—go ch-check on my m—mom."

"Your mom has Myrtle and Erica right now," Kendall said. "You're the one that needs me. If you've injured yourself, then you might need to see a doctor."

Skye's eyes grew wide, and she shook her head. "I… d—don't want anyone to know ab—about this…"

"Then just start by telling me what happened. I won't judge you. And if you want, I won't tell anyone. It will be our secret."

"He—he pushed me into the—the urinal." Skye pointed to it. "I heard a cr—crack. And he—he kicked me and slapped me."

Kendall frowned. "Who?"

Skye lowered her gaze.

"You can tell me," Kendall said. "Who did this to you?"

"It was… it was… it was Michael."

Myrtle and Erica sat in the waiting room at Llanview Hospital while Dr. Wolek started a second decompression on Rae.

"I hope Skye got my message," Myrtle said.

"I'm sure she'll be here soon to yell at the doctor," Erica said.

"I can't believe I lost it on Rae like that and caused that setback."

"Well, you lost it on me too." Erica placed a hand on her chest. "But Dr. Wolek said it wasn't stress that caused this. It's inevitable that this is going to happen often. So, you mustn't blame yourself, Myrtle. You're only going to get hurt in the end."

"I suppose you're right. I still want to apologize to her though."

Erica jolted at the sound of thunder and reached for Myrtle's hand. "Oh no… not a storm."

"Erica, dear. You're safe."

"Bianca!" Erica exclaimed. "She was meeting me at Rae's. I hope she and Kendall don't destroy each other without someone there with them."

Myrtle laughed. "I'm sure they'll survive. Erica dear…" She started to rub Erica's back. "It's all right. It's just a thunderstorm. You're okay."

There was no answer when Bianca knocked on Rae's door, but it was unlocked so she walked in. She tried to switch on the light but the power had gone out.

"Mom? Myrtle?" She called out. "Rae must have a flashlight somewhere…" She walked over to Rae's desk and opened the drawer but suddenly a candle flickered next to her and someone grabbed her wrist. She jolted and shrieked. "Who are you? What do you want?"

He held the candle up to his face and she realized it was Michael Cambias.

She tried to get away, but he held his free hand up and kept a hold of her wrist with the other. "It's me, it's Michael. I work with your sister, and I'm Skye's boyfriend. I frightened you, I'm sorry."

"Just let go of me."

"Oh, no problem." He let go of her wrist but held his hands on her upper arms. "Bianca… there's no need to be frightened. It's just me, all right? Please, have a seat. Make yourself comfortable."

Bianca slowly sat down on the couch.

He sat beside her. "Very good."

"Where's my mother? And everyone else?"

"I'm not sure. I came here looking for Skye, but the house was empty. She really hurt me, but I wanted to tell her I forgive her and that I know she can treat me better." He turned to Bianca and smiled at her. "Has anyone ever told you that you have gorgeous eyes? You must get them from your mother. Erica Kane is very beautiful. I've met her a few times and—"

Bianca jumped up and tried to run for the door, but Michael grabbed her from behind.

"Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa…" Michael rested his chin on her shoulder. "Where do you think you're going, Bianca? I can't let you drive in a storm like that. If you get in an accident, well, I guess it would be my fault, wouldn't it?" He guided her back to the couch and once she was seated, he knelt in front of her. "I'm sorry, I didn't hurt you, did I?"

Bianca said barely above a whisper, "No."

"Well, I guess this storm will give a chance to get to know each other, won't it?"

He rose and sat beside her once more, but this time closer.

"As far as I can tell, you're just as charming and good as everyone says you are. And if I can get you to like me, then I could leave here a very, very happy man."

He rose to his feet again and held a hand out to her. "Dance with me."

Bianca just stared at him.

"Bianca, get up and dance with me!"

Hesitantly, Bianca got up and he wrapped his arms around her.

"Ah, yes," Michael said. "See? That wasn't so hard, was it? Who wants Skye or even Kendall when I can have the little sister? You know… it feels good to have your body against mine—"

Suddenly, Bianca wacked him over the head with a book and he dropped to the floor. Bianca raced towards the front door, but he caught up to her and grabbed her and dragged her back to the living room.

She backed away from him, but he shoved her onto the couch and lowered himself onto her and kissed her roughly.

"Michael?" Kendall asked appalled. "As in Michael Cambias?"

Skye nodded.

"Oh, when I get a hold of him—"

"Don't," Skye cried. "I just… I don't know. I—I'm so confused."

"We need to tell someone."

Skye's eyes grew wide. "You p—promised. I d—don't want anyone t—to know."

Kendall sighed. "Okay, I won't tell anyone. But… I'll come up with a plan. Somehow… He won't get away with this."

They heard the jiggling of keys and when the door opened, they saw Emily and Elizabeth standing there with a man.

"Finally," the man grunted. "I'm going to make a complaint to the hospital board over this."

"Emily, Elizabeth…" Kendall spoke up. "Can you help Skye?"

Skye shot her a look.

"Of course," Emily said. "What's wrong?"

"Excuse me?" the man spoke up. "I need to use the restroom and I prefer to do that without a female audience."

Kendall wrapped her arm around Skye, and they followed Emily and Elizabeth out to the hallway.

"Are you okay, Skye?" Elizabeth asked.

"I—I thought you w—were out with D—Dad…" Skye said to Emily.

"I was," Emily said. "We had coffee at Kelly's, then I came to start my shift… Elizabeth is a nursing student and I'm a medical student."

"Skye hurt herself and she's having trouble with her breathing," Kendall said.

"How did she hurt herself?" Elizabeth asked.

Kendall exchanged a look with Skye. "She fell. The details aren't important, but she needs to get checked out."

"N—No. I don't," Skye insisted.

"Skye," Emily said softly. "I know we haven't spent much time together, but I think you should get checked out. Your breathing is really shallow."

"I—I d—don't want D—Dad to kn—know. L—Let him f—focus on AJ and M—Michael."

"Will you at least let Emily and Elizabeth check you over if they promise not to tell anyone?" Kendall asked.

"We do have to abide by confidentiality rules," Emily said. "Though I would encourage you to tell Dad."

"F—fine," Skye said.

They led them to a vacant room and Emily held a stethoscope to Skye's chest. "Elizabeth, can you order Skye some x-rays?"

"What's wrong with her?" Kendall asked.

"I think she may have broken some ribs," Emily said.
