Chapter 81 – Freedom Day
It was Freedom Day, the 1st anniversary of the fall of the Empire and the death of the Emperor. Many systems were celebrating the day and Coruscant was not different.
The day came out with rockets throwing in the air and parades all over the city.
The Senate was decorated to celebrate the day that democracy return to the galaxy and Admiral Ackbar did a great speech opening the ceremonies that would start all day, that would end with a big dinner reception in the two gardens near the Senate, the same ones where was the wedding of Luke and Ines.
Luke, Han and Chewie offered themselves to help preparing the tables for the night dinner celebration that was set to start at 2000 hours.
"General Solo! Master Skywalker! Chewbacca!" General Nadine saw them and shook their hands
"General" Han called
"Thank you for helping us to set these tables and chairs and get everything ready for later"
"No problem General." Luke replied and Chewie growled too
"A year ago, we were pretty busy at this time" General Nadine said making the guys nod
"I can't believe it already passed a year since the Battle of Endor" Han told. If felt like yesterday that he had do deal with those furry creatures, who in the end actually were pretty helpful.
"That's right. At this time we were in the sky during that battle near the Death Star" General Nadine told "What about you Master Skywalker"
Luke sighed. A year ago he lost his father too, but he didn't want to think about it
"I was inside that Death Star with my at the time girlfriend, who was pregnant, and was tight to Emperor chair while I was dueling with Darth Vader." Luke said
"Great stories to tell. Especially to your kid"
Luke smiled and nod.
"Well General the place is done. We will get home to get ready" Han told and shaking the General hand, they all left to their apartment, to get ready.
"Today will be a fun day actually. Having a little fun" Han said while Chewie growled
"I agree with you and the place is actually very nice" Luke said as they entered in the building.
"We will have some fun cause we deserve it kid." Han pat his shoulder "See you in 1900 hours?"
"Sure, Ines and I will be at your apartment at that hour and we will go all together to the dinner" Luke nod as Han left to his apartment and Luke went to his
Few hours later:
Luke got out of the bathroom with a towel around his waist and his Ben on his arms wrapped in his baby towel. Father and son had just take a nice bath together, something that Luke loved to do every time he had a change.
Ines entered, with her hair done, but still wearing a robe and holding two outfits from their baby:
"Here which one: the blue one or the gray one?"
Luke looked at them.
"How about we asked him" he smiled as he got closer to her and looked at his boy "Which one do you want to look all beautiful?" he asked to him that looked at his father with his big blue eyes.
"Which one baby" Ines said and smiled when Ben looked at her and smiled, like he didn't care. "We going with the gray one, it looks good on him, it makes his beautiful blue eyes pop out" she said and kissed his chubby little cheeks making the baby smile and giggle.
With 5 months, he was way more active, and was able to sit down alone for a while before fall on his back again and the other day he attempted to crawl when he was on his tummy, but with no success yet. He also loved to bounce on his little feet when Luke or Ines making him stood up on their lap. And they had to be careful now cause their little boy like to put everything in his mouth.
"Come on, let's get ready, it is almost 1900 and we need to meet uncle Han and aunt Leia and cousin Iris" Ines said picking him "The same goes to you mister"
"Okay, Okay I'm going" Luke shook his head while Ines put Ben on the bed and started to dress him, laughing when her boy grabbed his feet and started to suck on his toes.
Luke turned away and laughed at the scene.
"What a flexible little fella we have here"
"Babies are flexible" Ines said putting the Bowtie Gentleman Romper Jumpsuit Overalls Rompers on Ben, and the little socks and shoes. Picking him up she smiled "Look at this cute little boy" making Luke smiled while he was putting his black suit and his black boots.
"We are ready" Luke said sitting on the bed playing with Ben, picking him and Ben started to bounce on his father lap.
"I only need to put my dress" she said and taking the robe off, she grabbed a beautiful a Blue A-Line Square Neckline Floor-Length Chiffon Evening Dress With Ruffle Beading.
Luke smiled as she was finishing dress herself. Since they were married Ines picked the most beautiful dresses in events, and today was no exception. A year ago at this time she was witnessed the Emperor electrocuted him.
Ines turned around and look at him.
"Don't remind me that moment please" she said walking towards him and sitting down next to him, she ran her fingers through his wet blond hair.
"I can't help it. Today was also the death of my father. He died saving me, and we can't even address that today. I would not be here if it wasn't for him."
Ines knew what Luke was trying to say and he was right.
"Well we know he did that and we pay the tribute to him in private" she said. "I will always thank him for that. Today brings to all of those who were outside in the systems a great amount of joy. For us it brings bad memories. One of those is seeing Palpatine throwing those lightnings at you. I still can hear your screams today. I thought I would lose you right there" she said while her eyes started to filled with tears. He knew she had nightmares days after that event and she only calm down when he pulled her closer to his arms.
"But I'm here" he said. "When I saw you in that shuttle, unconscious, I feel so scared that something bad would happen to you and our baby." He said and they rest their foreheads.
Their baby was looking at their parents sucking one of the wings of his X-Wing toy.
"I'm proud of you for not turning to the dark side like Palpatine was trying" she told him
"I would never do that. I will never turn to the Dark Side. I have both of you that are my light" Luke smiled at her and then to his boy. "I love both of you"
"And we love you too" Ines smiled when Luke leaned forward and kissed her making Ben giggled. Luke and Ines pulled apart and smiling at their boy they both kissed his little cheeks.
"Come on." Luke said standing up, while Ines grabbed her purse and Ben's bag and they both head to Han's apartment followed by R2.
Han and Leia's apartment:
"Leia sweetheart where is my jacket?" Han asked waking around the house, looking for his lucky jacket
"What jacket?" Leia came from inside making Han gasped when he saw her in a Sequin ball gown with A line neckline and thin spaghetti straps.
Leia looked at him
"What?"
Han walked towards her and pulled her into his arms
"You look so beautiful" he said pulling her into a kiss, making Iris giggled when she saw her parents kissing
"Are you two smooching?" she asked making Leia pulled apart and looked back at her
"Where did you learn that word, young lady?" she asked with her hands on her hips.
The little giggled and pointed to Han
"Traitor" Han told making the girl laugh
"Pay attention to the things you say near our daughter" Leia looked at Han but she had a smile on her face.
The door opened and Luke entered with Ben in his arms, being followed by Ines and R2.
The moment they entered Iris ran towards her uncle and smiled at her baby cousin
"Hey baby" she said tickling Ben who giggled at her.
"Iris that dress looked so good on you. You look so beautiful" Ines said to her niece that twirled a long pink and white dress.
"Aunt Ines you look like a princess" Iris said to her aunt
"Well the princess here is your mother, who looks stunning"
Iris smiled and hugged Leia
"My mother is a Queen not a princess" Iris looked up at her who smiled at the little girl
"You are my princess my love" Leia smiled and kissed the top of her daughter's head.
Han appeared putting his jacket.
"Hey finally we are all here" he told "3PO let's go or you will stay here, goldenrod"
Iris giggled at that. Her father was always picking at 3PO but she liked the droid.
3PO appeared
"Coming" the protocol droid said
"Everyone is here, so let's celebrate cause a year ago I was giving my ass…"
"Han, your daughter" Leia slapped his arm
"I mean my butt" he said winking at the girl who laughed "to beat the Empire so I deserve a celebration and a real one, with drinks, food, music and not with little creatures"
Leia shook her head.
"Is it true they almost eat you and it was Uncle Luke who saved you using the force on 3PO?" Iris asked her father
"No" he said
"Yes" Luke, Ines and Leia said at the same time.
"Let's go" he said making everyone giggled and they followed him to celebrate the Freedom Day.
It is Freedom Day but for Luke is it also the day his father died saving him. What do you think of that?
