Hi:
You can thank the latest reviewer. I left word in the last post…unless I get a review or PM that people are interested in this story, I will move on.
Chapter 82
Something will soon hit the fan
Staring at the monitors located in the basement of the Naval Facility just outside Bristol Cove, Commander Martinez begins to walk about the rows of closed circuit TVs. The assigned technician looks apparently hypnotized on her screen. Though her peripheral vision scans her new commanding officer.
Oh, great! The young woman's thoughts race. She's gotta show she's the boss.
"Seaman Howell, I hope those blue eyes of yours have been glued to that screen." The newly promoted officer acted the part of an up-and-coming member of the military. She started to become a real annoying presence.
Seaman Howell, a twenty something female turned her head sending the blunt cut of blond hair twirling about a slender neck. This action could be considered an innocent response as Martinez left her vision to check on another pair of eyes focused on the camera covering the entrance to the local hospital.
The young female seaman's mind erupted with mild cursing. Then an observation expressed by many of the staff.
I know you are a Full Commander now, gees, does that mean you're gonna be a damn pain in the butt.
"Commander, ma'am." Shouted from the young ensign eyeing the monitor for the corridor next to the area of Brother's room.
"What is it, Tomasso?" She asks.
"There is a nurse or someone in scrubs entering the secure corridor."
As Martinez squints at the back of the image the unidentified woman approaches the two-armed guards outside Brother's room. "I can't make her out." Exhaling a disgusted blast of air, she turns to pick up the red phone on the adjacent table. It is a direct line to a Lieutenant sitting in the Human Resources office.
"Lieutenant Phillips, please check if any hospital personnel have been sent to our prisoner's room."
As the Lieutenant scans an array of charts on the off-white folding table, he juggles the receiver causing a voice on the other end to exclaim "What the hell you doing, Lieutenant.?"
"Looking for tonight 's work sheet, Ma'am." He rustles through the papers hoping to find out the information before his superior asks another question.
Back in the basement, Ensign Tomasso sits back in his chair with a smirk on his face. His monitor has become very entertaining.
"Ma'am," he speaks in a casual tone. "That nurse is talking to the guards. I guess she belongs there?" He lets out a soft chuckle. "I think they're flirting with each other.
"I think the guards are giggling." A Senior Petty Officer blurts out. His dark ebony skin reflects the overhead neon light. "I think those two are gonna get lucky tonight." The seasoned sailor continues. "Or at least one of them. Look how that nurse is swaying her body." His eyes widen. "She does have a put-together figure."
As the anonymous woman appears to ask the guards questions concerning the prisoner's status, she lifts a clipboard to seemingly record their answers.
A twinkle in the nurse's blue eyes hide her intentions.
I'll keep talking to these sweet lovesick boys. Flirt a little…hint I'm a mature woman that needs some young studs. When they see the condoms, I have.
She pauses from her devious plans. Elaine's lips separate with her supple smile.
I'll do what must be done.
A dear friend's home
After an uneasy tryst in the younger Pownall household, Maddie pays a late night visit to an old friend and confident.
"Helen, I know I can talk to you." The young woman's anxious tone catches her full attention. "I mean…I can trust it won't go…"
Helen cuts her statement in two.
"Sweetheart," the older sounding board speaks in a mild tenor. She reaches back with both hands to fluff her black hair. "We've been through too much." Taking her right hand she places hers on top of the slightly trembling hand to her front. "It's Ryn? I know, she is hard to figure out." Helen asks.
The older woman raises her hand to halt Maddie's reply.
"I know, Maddie. Ben and her, is there any room for you?" Helen's dark eyes appear to mesmerize the distraught young woman.
Dropping her chin downward, a mop of dark curly strands dance about Maddie's expression.
"Helen, I'm afraid she's gonna kill me one day."
"Now wait…"
It became Maddie's turn to silence any reply.
"You should see how physical she is with Ben." Tears explode from a set of blinking eyes. "Oh, no please…" the flustered young woman raises a shaking hand to halt Helen's response. "Ryn wants me to become like her. I mean the stem cells." She inhales giving herself the strength to control the muffled sobs. "She has it all planned. She wants us to live together underwater. She will be Queen."
Helen can only stare in disbelief.
"Helen, I'm pregnant with Joe's baby."
"Oh, my Lord!" The older woman's silence breaks.
"How? I mean. Does Ben know, I mean…" Being a hybrid, she realizes it will be only a matter of time before Ryn senses the truth.
"I told Ben I want to leave…" She inhales. As her chest trembles, she exhales. "I asked him to come with me."
Helen sits back in her chair. Sparse eyebrows broaden, as an expression of suspicion travels the length of her face.
Note to reader.
This is a set up for fireworks all over Bristol Cove.
