Hi All!
Thank you so much for all the love you have given this series! I can't believe how much love you have given this! I really appreciate all your comments and kudos that you leave!
PROMPTS ARE CLOSED!
I'm thinking of taking a small break from this series and maybe work on another fic for the Irondad/Spiderson fandom. I've worked through all the prompts now (I've done at least one prompt for all of those who have entered multiple times). I won't say that this series is done because I've really enjoyed writing these one shots! It's been so much fun :) I will let you all know when the prompt re-open.
This prompt is from Trevor Conklin from Fanfiction - The prompt idea is Tony goes on a mission forgetting he is supposed to be babysitting Peter, so Wanda babysits him and they have a brother and sister bond.
I hope you enjoy and I apologise for any mistakes :)
Good Luck Kiss
Peter yawns and rubs the heel of his palm into his eyes as he shuffles sleepily from his bedroom and towards the kitchen. He's still in his Ironman PJ's (and no matter what Flash says, his daddy is the best-test superhero in the whole entire world!) and he yawns loudly as he squints against the bright light. Something is cooking in the kitchen and Peter follows his nose to the delicious scent. It smells like pancakes and Peter grins. His dad know how much he loves pancakes, and he speeds up his little legs to get to the kitchen faster.
Peter skids to a halt on his socks as he flies into the kitchen and the smile drops from his face as he sees it isn't his dad the one cooking pancakes, but Wanda.
"Peter," Wanda greets brightly in her thick accent. "Good morning!"
Peter tugs at the hem of his Pyjama top, lips twisting into a pout. "Morning."
"Did you have a good sleep?" Wanda asks, waving him closer.
"Where's my daddy?" Peter pouts, not moving. He knows he's being rude and that his daddy and Pepper wouldn't like him talking this way to Wanda, but he wants his daddy.
Wanda walks over to him and crouches down in front of him. She's the closest of the Avengers in age to Peter, twenty-one years old while Peter is only eight. Peter likes Wanda. She is the newest addition to the group of superheros and has cool magic that Peter desperately wishes that he could do but no matter how hard he tries, he just can't.
"Did Tony not tell you?" Wanda frowns.
"Tell me what?" Peter demands.
"Tony had to go out on a mission," Wanda explained carefully. 'You're going to spend the day with me."
Peter's face dropped and he stared wide-eyed at Wanda. "No! He can't have! Daddy always tell me when he goes on a mission! You're wrong! He wouldn't leave without saying bye. I didn't give him a good luck kiss!"
"I'm sure he just forgot," Wanda said soothingly. "It was very last minute. But Tony told me how much you enjoyed pancakes. I've made some. Would you like to come and eat with me?"
Peter sniffed, lower lip quivering. "I want my daddy."
"He will be back before you know it," Wanda smile. She stood up, holding out her hand. "You could tell him how many pancakes you managed to eat."
Hesitantly, Peter took Wanda's hand. "Daddy says I'm only allowed two."
Wanda winked down at him. "I won't tell if you don't."
Peter beamed. He always wanted more pancakes, but his daddy always teased him if he ate too many he would start looking like a pancake. He squeezes Wanda's hand as she leads him further into the kitchen and helps him sit up on one of the stools. He watches with awe as red whisps of magic appear between her fingers and she floats over the plate of pancakes she had been cooking.
"Now Peter I have a very important to ask you," Wanda leans in conspiratorially and Peter leans forward too, nearly putting his elbow in the pancakes. "Ice cream or chocolate sauce?"
Peter grins. "Both!"
Wanda beams and with her magic she spoons ice cream on to a pancake and drizzles chocolate sauce over the top before sliding it across the table to Peter.
"Hey man, you okay?" Rhodey asked, turning in the second pilot chair to face Tony.
"Fine," Tony says even as his ribs throb painfully.
"Yeah, bullshit," Rhodey snorted. "What happened out there, Tones? You were distracted and that's not like you."
Tony scrubbed a hand down his face, and he sighed. He spun in the chair, FRIDAY keeping the plane level. He glanced at the other Avengers at the back of the jet. Everyone one was immersed in conversation and tending to their wounds. Tony turned back to his best friend, letting his façade fall for just a moment.
"I forgot to hug Peter goodbye," He murmured.
"Oh Tones," Rhodey murmured.
"I just," Tony looked out the window and out at the blue sky that was laid out before them. "I don't want his last memories of me to be the ones I have of my dad. Always leaving for work and never bothering with emotions and stuff."
"You are not your dad," Rhodey scoffed. "Peter knows how much you love him. You show him every day. Peter's the luckiest kid to have you as a father. And to have me as an uncle."
Tony's lips twitched.
"Trust me, Tony," Rhodey said. "You're the best dad."
"Thanks," Tony said. He sniffed, spinning his chair to face the front again. "I just want to get home and see my kid."
Rhodey spun his chair around too. "Then let's home."
It's nearly lunch time when the jet lands down on the compound grounds. Tony leaves the post-flight checks to Rhodey and ignores the way Steve calls after him to go straight to medical.
"FRIDAY," Tony calls as he enters the compound. "Where is Peter?"
"He is in the pool with Wanda and Miss Potts," FRIDAY responds.
Tony grins and makes his way straight to the pool. He can hear Peter's shrieks of laughter before he can see them. The smell of chlorine and warm air hits Tony right in the face as he pushes open the door to the pool.
Pepper is perched on one of the lounge chairs, forgoing her usual business attire and is instead in shorts and a t-shirt. Her hair is pulled back from her face, a tablet abandoned in her lap in favour of watching Peter and Wanda who are in the pool.
Wanda lifts Peter into the air with her magic and launches him to other end of the pool where he falls with a shriek and a splash. When he resurfaces, he's grinning so hard and lets out a whoop that echoes around the pool. Wanda drags him back through the water with her magic with a laugh and repeats the process.
Tony makes his way to Pepper, and she doesn't notice him until Peter his shrieking.
"DADDY!"
"Hey, you," Pepper reaches for his hand. She smiles when he takes it, squeezing it gently. "Welcome home."
Peter swims to the edge of the pool, little legs kicking as he struggles to pull himself out. He does and then he's running to Tony with the wet slaps. When he's close enough, he launches himself at Tony.
Tony catches his son, his ribs screaming in protest. He doesn't care though, pulling Peter close and letting his kid wrap his legs around his stomach.
"Hey Kiddo," Tony said, planting a kiss on Peter's wet cheek. He smooths back Peter's wet curls and beams at his kid. "I missed you."
"Missed you too, daddy," Peter beams. He leans forward and plants a wet kiss on Tony's cheek. "Didn't get to give you a good luck kiss."
"I know. I'm so sorry buddy," Tony rubbed Peter's back. He sat down as Pepper made room for him on the lounge chair and hissed through gritted teeth as his ribs protested the movement. Peter's wet board shorts are seeping into his clothes, but he doesn't care. It's good to hug his son.
Pepper shot him a concerned look as she wrapped a towel around Peter's shoulders.
Tony nodded as her unspoken we-will-talk-later-when-Peter-isn't-around look and turned to Wanda who was now out of the pool, draped in a towel.
"Welcome back," Wanda smiled.
"Thanks for watching Peter," Tony gave her a grateful nod.
"It was my pleasure," Wanda smiled. "We have fun, didn't we?"
"Yeah! Daddy, I ate three and a half pancakes!" Peter beamed.
'Whoa!" Tony laughed. "Good thing you went swimming to work off all that sugar."
Peter giggled, leaning into Tony's side.
"Is Vision back?" Wanda asked and Tony heard the unasked is he okay? In her voice.
Tony nodded and Wanda's shoulders relaxed.
"I will see you late Peter," Wanda said. "Don't forget, we have a fort to build later."
"I won't!" Peter gushed.
Wanda nodded and with a smile to Tony and Pepper she slipped out of the pool, the door closing behind her.
When Tony turned back to Peter, Pepper was gently running a towel through his curls. He smiled at the image, his heart picking up speed in his chest. Peter yawned, slouching into Pepper's touch and she smiled down at him. Although not Peter's biological mother, Pepper was a great stepmother. She had stepped into the role long before she and Tony had started dating and she was would officially adopt Peter when they were married in the Spring.
"Let's get you showered," Pepper said. "And then we can have lunch."
"Dad can tell us how he beat up all the bad guys," Peter smiled sleepily.
"Sure kiddo," Tony said. He leant down and placed a kiss on Peter temple before leaning over to Pepper and pulling her into a kiss. He only pulled away when Peter squirmed between them, and he chuckled at the scrunched-up face he was making. It was good to be home, and never again would he forget to get his good luck kiss from Peter before he went on a mission.
Happy reading :)
