Chapter 77 A not so normal day part 2
(Location: Northern section of Mantle Solitas continent Kingdom of Atlas Remnant)
Velvet walked the side walk of the city with an unreadable expression. Truth be told, she wasn't happy. Reasons were just as not that long ago she got a transmission from Penny that she has encountered the killer. She and Jaune did their best to get to the coordinates but they were too far away. By the time they were almost there, it was too late. The killer has gotten away and they were back to square one. It was a wasted opportunity even with the military searching high and low. They were told by Ironwood to resume patrol and keep their guard up. Not like there wasn't a chance that they will find him. After that encounter, he must be hiding in a pretty good spot. The results lead the older Crowe upset.
That wasn't all. It seems they have quite the luck when it comes to getting into bigger trouble. Just now, there was another riot though it wasn't as big as the previous, it was still a bother. It was also different from the last one. At first, they were fighting the military then, it became a free for all. The people were attacking faunus and the faunus fought back. The military did their best to contain both groups as they were able to apprehend them. The former therion didn't know why she was feeling frustrated and upset. This was something that has been troubling her for who knows how long. It's like she was bottling all up. But why, she didn't know. For what reason she will hide things looks like, she was reaching her limit.
"Velvet, wait up!"
Jaune was behind her. Right, she forgot he was with her on the mission. Or the fact that she was being a little fast on her walking. Reaching to her forehead, a headache was coming since when. It was getting worse by the minute. It's like she wanted to scream at the top of her lungs and screw everything. Instead of slowing down and let the Arc catch up to her, she kept going. Not a word, nothing, she just didn't stopped. He called out to her again but she didn't listened, until he caught up. The blond leader checked up on her knowing she wasn't pleased and it was understandable. But Velvet refused to stare into his eyes, she knew he was worried and here she was acting like a brat. Very unlikely of her.
"I know you're not happy we couldn't get to Penny's location on time. But we were too far away. Even in your dragon form you couldn't get there but Laphicet and Ruby were there. And the military is searching hard for the killer, so are we."
"…..….."
"We'll find him if we have search all of Mantle. We're not giving up so, try to cheer up."
She didn't replied but has stopped walking. Okay now Jaune was worried. What could possibly be wrong. Could this be connected why she was having trouble sleeping. The blond put his hand on her shoulder as she remained still. But before he could ask her, she quickly turned to him looking like a fuse about to go off.
"I'm sick of this!"
He was caught off guard, shocked. Her outburst was so sudden.
"I…." the older Crowe felt bad for snapping like that.
"Wanna talk about it?"
The long haired woman gave him a hug loving the warmth of his body. The Arc just let her rest her head until she calms down. He had no idea it was that bad. Maybe he should have asked her a lot sooner before going off like that. They stood in their embrace for like a minute before Velvet broke it her expression she seemed to be better. But there was still some stress in it.
"It's the same every day, I'm sick of it. I've been trying not to think, I can't hold it anymore. I haven't forgotten our mission it's ridiculous, I shouldn't be acting this way."
"I don't blame you. You're tire, stress out it's understandable. We're not here on vacation. Ever since coming to Atlas we've been busy, really busy. The training, the missions, the briefings there's no rest for us. Literally we do get rest to be ready for the next day but you get what I'm saying."
"I can't take take it I try but I can't. I don't know what's wrong."
"Considering of all of us you're the one that works the hardest. You have always push yourself beyond our expectations. Looks like you're reaching your limit and wait don't get angry, it's not a bad thing. But I think you should take a few days off I know you're going to argue and disagree but you could use it. I'm sure all of us will agree."
"It's not just a day off or some rest…." Velvet stood in thought as she gaze into his blue eyes.
"It's about us."
This has definitely caught Jaune off guard. Not seeing it coming, from being tire from all of the work to pointing out their relationship. Feels like going off topic.
"We haven't done anything in a while. Sure we made it official a while back but we...I feel like we've been apart I don't like it."
"Sometimes I feel that way too but I never forget you're always by my side, supporting me, supporting us."
"It's worse when you realize you like someone a lot and you don't have time to show it."
"I'm here now. We're alone. So talk to me, you know I'm a good listener."
The older Crowe wanted to groan and smack him. After all this time he was still dense as ever.
"Telling you it's the best approach to take. I want to go on a date."
"Date?" he blinked again, he was dumbstruck off guard.
"We're together and we still haven't gone out…." she knew she was blushing like a school girl.
How many times she has wished for Niko to be here and give her some advice. The girl was the only one who knew how to handle these situations. She was no longer that sixteen year old girl and yet, she will get embarrassed mentioning a date. Guess she was stressed out, she was tire of all the work not to see it how much she needs it. For once she just wanted to get some time off by spending time with her boyfriend. Turning to the Arc it was the same for him as his face was red. The former therion couldn't helped but smile, he will get embarrassed too.
"Are you going to ask me out?"
"Huh-oh right, sorry! Do you want to go out with me?"
"Please" she smiled.
"Where to?"
"I doubt a city that is in constant security watch will be the best place. Atlas will do."
"We can go there after the mission."
"I'm not spending another hour here" she let a little of her anger and frustration, hiding her pout.
"But Velvet the mission and hello crazy killer on the loose, that has recently attacked Penny?"
"Leave this to me."
Jaune had no idea what she was planning as she reached for her communicator.
"James. No we still haven't found him. What's that? James you're breaking up I can't hear you. James if you can hear me we'll be fine. I'll contact you when we have made some progress."
She ended the transmission while the Arc sweat dropped at his girlfriend's antic. This is how she will solve them not resuming their mission. Usually they can't disobey Ironwood's orders because he's in charge of the military and all of the missions. Even if they're not his soldiers they're still Huntsman that are loyal to the people fighting for the same interest as the military. The older Crowed turned to him looking as if she was pretty satisfied with what she did.
"There, problem solved."
"I wouldn't call that solved…."
He chuckled because he should have seen this coming. If Velvet wanted something, she will get it. He didn't blame her from all the stress of work and barely spending any time with him. Honestly, he was feeling the same way. Too many times it passed his mind to ask her out and spend the day, just the two of them. The long haired woman gave a smile taking his hand, heading for the air ship hangar, he followed with his own smile. Now he was wondering what will be their excuse to go to Atlas without the General's consent. The Arc doubted his girlfriend will give a valid one knowing her.
Ren and Nora felt like they've gone on circles, patrolling their post. They must have traveled the area of the city more than once. Some of the buildings were similar to them proof they have already passed this location. It was starting to get boring and tiring. They received the communication of Penny being attacked by the killer. But just like Velvet and Jaune, they were too far away from the robotic girl's coordinates. They got the reply the attacker got away and they resumed their patrol. They doubted that bastard would come all the way here pretty obvious he should be hiding somewhere where he ran off. Point is, the two teens were back to their usual mission which is being boring as hell.
At least for Nora that was the case. This city was really looking depressing due to the security protocols of not being outside. Explaining the lack of people in the streets when it was nowhere like that when she first arrived. This was all done for their safety and prevent more riots from happening. Yeah they get it, they were having trouble trusting the military after they saw that footage. Who knows how many citizens have been detained and are currently held behind cells. The Valkyrie wanted to groan from boredom. Because of the new wall and arsenal Grimm haven't invaded the city and that was good. But there was hardly anything to do than patrolling, scouting or additional support.
Turning to her childhood friend, Ren was being his usual self. The quiet, calm, level heading person he has ever been. Sometimes she had no idea what was going in his head. He was always like that since she first met him making the teen unpredictable sometimes. Knowing him too long felt like it wasn't enough. Ren's nature was the obedient one that is willing to do everything for the mission. Guess that will make the perfect candidate for an Atlas soldier. How close she was to screaming and be done with this. A break will be much appreciate it. The Valkyrie can't forget her duty as a Huntress but seriously, they have done enough laps around the perimeter. It was safe to assume it's all clear.
"Another run."
She did her best not to groaned, but she did.
"Then, we'll give our report."
That was great. Give the report and get out of here already. If the killer was in hiding, the military will have a hard time finding him. Though they might end up calling to aid with the search. That will be like three or four hours more. The Valkyrie suck it up, no more complaining as her eyes shifted again to the young man next to her. Staying silent was never her forte as she's been wanting to ask Ren something. Something she wanted to tell him because she was keeping it for a while. And she needed an answer right now.
"So, any future plans when the mission is done?"
Ren was about to speak but couldn't. Because honestly, he had no idea. Guess he's been too busy lost in thought with the missions to even consider what to do next. These two months, so much has happened. It's been harder for the teen to focus on other things that isn't Huntsman related. Not talking much more than usual or hanging out with the others. Saving Atlas and Mantle was his priority. Salem couldn't win. Why was this bothering him. Noticing that the ginger head girl was staring at him he shook his head, offering a smile.
"I don't know. Maybe some training."
"More training?" Nora gave a groan so sick of it.
"We've been training every single day."
"We need it."
"You know what else we need, a break, rest, anything fun that can help us lighten up. We're not mindless machines heck, even Penny knows when to catch a break."
The magenta eyed teen stood in thought, okay she made a valid point. There has been a lot of training but not that much equal of rest. So he thought about it and understood the girl's point.
"You're right. It's been hard all I can think about is the mission. Sometimes I can barely get any rest, it has become a fixation to stay focus and keep going."
"No one is forgetting why we're here Ren. We haven't forgotten our duty all I'm saying to learn when enough is enough and get some well deserve rest. I have notice how you've been acting for a while. Following General Ironwood's orders like a true soldier of Atlas, no second thoughts, no questions asked. It admit, it worried me a little. But I know the kind of person you are. You lost enough and now you want to do everything you can to protect what's important to you."
The teen lowered his head as the Valkyrie lifted his chin with a smile.
"You ain't the only one that wants to fight to keep the things they love. Everyone feels the same. But that doesn't mean you should lose yourself to the job."
"It's not a job, it's our duty-" Ren paused seeing her expression.
"I never said you were wrong. Even in duty there has to be a time to rest."
The magenta eyed teen nodded giving a soft sigh. He shouldn't be doing this to himself. Realizing that he could sure need a break from this. Thankfully nothing bad has happened yet if it does, the military will contact them. For now, it was a breeze with the patrolling. Now that he gave it more thought, this was getting boring understanding Nora's point. It was no wonder she wanted this done. A smile has spread his features.
"You're right. I'm sorry."
"Don't be, I know how hard you're trying to do your best. You didn't showed it that much when we were at Beacon. But so much has happened since then."
"Let's no worry about things that can cause us stress. After we're done, would you like to go somewhere, maybe somewhere nice?"
Her eye widened, not believing it.
"Is it-"
"Yes, it's a date" he smiled.
The girl squealed in joy as she rushed to hugged him. How she's been waiting to hear it from him. Honestly, she was planning to make the first move glad she didn't. Ren can be dense sometimes. The Valkyrie could think of the many possibilities from this date. It was their first date as crazy as it sounded due that they have known each their whole lives. Things are starting to look good for them.
"But let's finish our patrol first."
And she groaned again.
Beautiful, that's all Weiss thought. A smile spread Weiss's lips staring at the sights of the capital city of the kingdom. Atlas was always beautiful to her and she love it except when she was locked in her family manor. The Utopia in the sky, that's what some its citizens will call it. The white haired gazed at sights through the windshield of the limousine. Turning to her brother, Whitley stood calm staring at his feet. Every now and them he will gaze at the windshield from his side. Guess she must have scared him a little too much using her Gigas summon. Not like she had a choice in the matter because he was ignoring her for two months. It worked so she wasn't going to complain. And she also apologized to the white haired boy.
The limo passed the busy streets filled with traffic as the driver followed Weiss's command. She has requested him to take somewhere more calm where they can relax and talk. The former heiress's eyes scanned around the streets until spotting the perfect place. For her, Isis park were among the most gorgeous places in the capital. She had some good memories from it when she was younger. Back when those days were filled with joy, so rare in her family but those memories are true. That was before she found out why her father married her mother. The vehicle parked in an available space as the driver went to get the door of the two Schnee inside. The siblings left as Weiss told Bastion to go, she will call him if she needs him.
As the limo left the former heiress kept her smile at the place. It looks the same from how she remembers it. Atlas may be all high tech but there were still places where nature was still present. The trees, the grass, the flowers it was nice to see that there was some in this city. Whitley looked like he was shy but his older sister knew he was still hesitant being here. Out here, out of the manor, she took his hand dragging him to the park. The white haired girl seemed to be more happy than him gazing around. People having picnics with their families or pair in a date, nothing has changed. Same old pretty social gathering spot. There was the Atlas mall that basically had everything. But she prefers this it was so much better.
"I did agreed to come. No need to push me so rudely."
"You don't seem to be thrilled to be here. So you have to excuse my rudeness" there was some sarcasm in the white haired girl's tone.
"I'm here on my own will."
"After I used Gigas to forced you."
"That will be stubbornness, a regular trait of the family."
She chuckled at his remark it was true. Maybe he didn't wanted to be here but he will eventually get adjusted. The reason she brought him here is to talk and catch up at lost time. Find a way to make him open up to her because she really wanted to be part of his life. Weiss has come to regret being selfish thinking of the kind of life she wants to live not focusing on her family. Winter has already chose her future way before her and her closeness with the older Schnee has gotten stronger in time. Her father was a very complex matter she didn't wanted to tackle for now. And her mother, the former heiress didn't thought of it. Not after how she snapped at Willow that the woman looked frightened and hurt.
"This...Isn't so bad…."
"I love it here. I love everything about it, I feel like I can lose myself here. Way better than being locked in the manor."
"You make it sound as if we didn't had a choice."
Gazing back at his older sister yeah, he made a mistake. It was obvious that they would hardly have the freedom to leave. Jacquess being very strict not wanting them to head into the city. Always giving a rant because they're Schnees they might ran into trouble like getting abducted and be used as a hostage. All so they can get some cash for the ransom. Both siblings knew it was a load of crap. First, Atlas has security all over the city. It wasn't the most secure part of the kingdom for nothing. Second they were sure the elder Schnee was more worried of how much money he will have to give for their safety.
"Never mind."
"I always thought highly when we used to come here, all of us. You were too young I doubt you would remember."
"All of us? True I don't remember but I can't hardly believe a time when we were all together."
"It shouldn't be like that. My time in Beacon taught me what family is all about. And it's nothing compare how we are."
"We're not an ordinary family. The Schnee are among the most wealthiest families in the kingdom of Atlas."
"That's what I'm getting at. Just because we're rich that doesn't gives us the excuse to act like we're so far apart. Money shouldn't make a difference to how we…." she paused.
"That kind of thinking is flawed within the high class on this city. Wealth is everything, it's power and it's how you're reflected within the eyes of the masses."
Weiss stood thought, how right he is. That's how it works in the capital. The rich only care about their money and the power they hold over their status. Her family was no different.
"Let's leave that aside and focus on you. Don't want you changing the topic."
"That is the reason we're here. What do you intent to do with pointing me as the center of conversation?"
"I'm not allowed to spend time with my brother?"
"What was the last time you did?"
His comment hurt her but she kept a straight face. He was right, she has missed out on a lot and she needed fix it somehow. That's why she was here.
"I've done a lot of mistakes, I know that. And I can't change the past I'm sorry Whitley."
"Please, enough with the apologies. You were simply doing what you thought was right at the time. Try to break away from the prison. Winter did the same, she found her calling and left. And I suppose it wasn't always like this. There were happy times with our family that is, until mother learned of the truth."
Weiss nodded how could she ever forget that all started with constant arguing between Jacquess and Willow, they've been going at it for days. One night during dinner they went again and her father finally had it. He told her the cold truth of the reason he chose to married her. Right in their faces when they were younger. She was around eight while Whitley was just five and Winter was fourteen. When he said those words a strong silence fell on the table. Her mother stood speechless, it wasn't something she was expecting to hear. It was the same with the rest but somehow, it shouldn't come as a surprise. Her older sister was the only one that got upset at the revelation. The look she gave Jacquess said a million words worth of insults.
"What have you been doing?" she immediately went to change the topic.
"What have I've been doing while you were gone, or my whole life?"
"Both sounds good" she tried to give a smile but failed.
"There's not much to be honest. When I wasn't walking the manor I was in my room and because I had plenty of time on my hands, I read most of the times. I ordered many books online, some topics were variant. There was one topic that caught my interest. Computers. I spent most of my childhood reading and studying wanting to learn everything there is needed. Really boring stuff if you ask me."
The former heiress nodded. It wasn't boring if she wanted to know about her brother's life.
"So much time that I memorized everything I read. I put all the knowledge I learned into practice and it was so easy to understand. I became good with computers in a couple of weeks, I even understood my scroll like no one. It has so much potential all the tricks you can do if you know how to do it. I have the brains but not the brawn like you and Winter. I wasn't born with the family semblance because I'm male something, I deeply desire."
The white haired girl lowered her head remembering when she mocked him during her summoning training. Sure, he was acting like a prick but that was his way of trying to get attention. It was his way of acting plus, he was heavily influenced by her father.
"You and Winter have everything father wanted. That's why he wished for any of you to inherit the company. You were the one because our older sister has made up her mind a long time ago. The thought infuriated me with envy. All I could so was annoy you with immature mockery."
"You did annoyed me. But I knew you were just doing it because you're my younger brother."
"Also because I envy you. The person you are, the heiress of the SDC."
"Not anymore. That was a title I never wanted. It took me a while to finally realize it."
"But it was one I wanted. Don't mean to sound cruel, the day father took the title from you was the happiest day of my life."
She rolled her eyes not feeling upset. She had a feeling that was the case considering how he gloated after eavesdropping on the conversation.
"Don't feel bad dear sister."
"I'm not. You rubbed it in my face, remember?"
And he smiled. It was a true smile one, she hasn't seen in the younger Schnee in a very long time. Weiss was happy, so far so good it was all going as she expected. It was working that's what matters. She got seated on an elegant bench where she gesture him to seat next to her. He rolled his eyes but still obeyed. This made the white haired girl smiled again, this was actually working. Some alone time with her brother.
"My life felt completed becoming the heir. But it wasn't because of the SDC or because I wanted to be popular or important...I needed the attention."
Weiss nodded of course that's what she wanted too. More like other people accepting her for she is and not for what she is. Not as a Schnee and heiress to the multi-billion lien dust company.
"Father was noticing me more afterwards. He actually talked to me more all because I was the heir of the SDC. Most of the times were business related topic but I didn't minded. It gave me a chance to learn new things of the company I was unaware. It was a good experience…."
Whitley was about to speak but hesitated realizing his tone was breaking up. He was getting emotional probably, because he needed this for so long. To seat with someone and talk his problems. Someone who will listen and understand him. No one has ever done it. And if it has, he was too young to remember. It was slowly coming to as he resume speaking with his sister.
"I was willing to do anything for a" good job son" or a "I'm proud of you son". But those words never left his mouth. I thought if I behave and obey him no questions ask, he will acknowledge me. Maybe he will accept me more than you two. Sure he will talk to me more and all I felt in the end, I was drifting further away from him. I started to understand why you and Winter didn't wanted to be involve with the company. One rejected the heiress title and the other lost it. And I...I didn't care, I still don't. Screw the SDC, I just want my family to care for me and see me as one of you."
"You two were his golden goose, exceptional to the Schnee name. I was nothing but the expendable pawn. Set to be toss aside for being useless."
"That is not true!" she argued hurt seeing the boy in tears.
"It is!" he snapped anger was getting a hold of him.
"My two sisters were gifted with the family semblance and with great talents. Winter chose to be a weapon for the military, you're an outstanding singer, trained by the best Atlas has to offer, went to Beacon to become a Huntress. Now you're fully licensed as for me, I'm still the same as I ever was. Little Whitley who had the tragedy to be born a man with no semblance, no talents whatsoever. Had to be spent his life locked in his room doing nothing but reading, secretly wishing to be worth something for his dear family. Mother stop paying attention to us for years and father, doesn't seem to care."
"Don't you see Whitley? You are worth something because you're MY brother, you're Winter's brother and mother's son. Mother chose to drown herself in alcohol because it's her way of coping with the truth that has haunt her for years. That she was nothing but a breeding tool to give father his desire children that will someday inherit his company. Wealth, power, popularity those are the only things he care about. That is why Winter was never interested in becoming the heiress and I secretly hated the idea. It took me a while to realize, the day he removed the heiress status from me was one of the best days in my life. I met great friends and I don't regret meeting them but I also know, family is very important."
"I love my family and I want to do what's necessary if, there's a way to bring us together. At least bring my siblings together. Mother is old enough to know what to do and it's up to her if she wants to continue drinking away her sorrows or see that she can't stop thinking about the past. As for father...That is a more complicated matter."
The tears feel impossible to hold himself. To think he will break so easily. Guess bottling all of this up for so long made him that vulnerable. Weiss smiled putting her hands on his shoulders. Assuring him, everything was going to be all right.
"I'm sorry if I wasn't there for you when you needed a sister. I won't get tire of saying it so be quiet. From now on, if you want to talk it out I'll be here when you need me. I'm sure Winter would want the same thing."
"Do you mean it?" there was hope in his light blue eyes.
"It took me two months to finally hear you out, I promise."
He nodded giving a smile. Things were sure looking good as the former heiress was feeling so much relief. She finally patched things up with her brother now let's see if she can do the same with her father. That was going to be one tough mission. Her thoughts were on her mother now. Remembering what happened earlier her sudden outburst with the older Schnee. She knew she needed some time off it was decided not to bother her until she feels better. That is, if she does get better. After that, the woman might return to drinking. The white haired girl was more than happy it was all working and hopefully she can finally fix her relationship with her younger brother.
Weiss wasn't done as she gave him a hug. She wanted to and she knew he needed it. Thinking he was nothing but an expendable pawn, she hated that. Her determination grew to unite her family. Winter will be easy because deep down the older Schnee cares for Whitley too. Not that far the elegant fountain has released a beautiful formation. The siblings felt like they have gotten closer than ever in years.
Winter arrived shortly as she spotted her sister. But she wasn't expecting that she would be accompanied with her brother. They were talking and seeing Weiss's reactions it must have gotten personal. The hug made her smiled something she wasn't expecting to see. Now she was feeling bad coming here, wanting to interrupt. But she chose to let them talk and see it for herself. The older Schnee was happy for both and proud of her younger sister. Trying to bond with the family. It has been so long since they have actually spend time together as a whole. Whitley also looked happy and his expression clearly says he needed this.
A shame she will have to interject and ruin the moment. Now if the same thing can be done with her parents. Better not even bring it. The relationship between Jacquess and Willow was probably damaged beyond repair. Her mother became an alcoholic drunk after he told her he married her because of her name. It was also personal interest before the love for his family for Jacquess. The Specialist walked to the siblings as Weiss was the first to notice her presence.
"Winter?"
"Apologies for interfering. I didn't mean to trouble you two."
"It's okay. I think you came at the right time."
"Whitley" the Schnee Specialist nodded at her younger brother.
"Big sister. As you can see we're spending some quality time together. I know we have barely talk in a while, how about we change that? If you're free we can go have a cup of tea. Mostly I've been hearing my sister apologizing more than once it's getting rather tiring."
Weiss rolled her eyes, he can be such a joker sometimes. Asides that, she was surprised. She wasn't expecting her brother would asked Winter so suddenly. Wanting to speak with her too, its a good start. The Specialist was also taken back by his comment. Talking to her sister must have really woken him up and realize the importance of family. She didn't had a problem with it she has been looking forward to spend more time with the white haired boy. Now if she can be successful in having a conversation with her mother and father. The last was probably impossible considering she resent him a lot.
"I can make time in my busy schedule. I would love to catch up" she smiled.
"As long as you don't apologize, I will look forward to it."
"It's not funny" the former heiress gave her brother an annoyed expression and obviously he ignored her.
The sight was so refreshing for the older Schnee. Both acting like regular siblings its how it should be.
"My reason for coming, Weiss, I would like to have a word with you. Not here."
The white haired girl nodded probably to talk about Huntsman or military business. Then she turned to Whitley looking bad that their time together has to end so soon.
"It's all right dear sister. I'll call Bastion to pick me up. I am very grateful for this lovely day."
"How about I'll give you both a ride, I'm here on a convoy?"
"That will be great Winter thank you" both siblings didn't had a problem.
"I'll drop Whitley at home. We have somewhere else to be."
"Hmm…."
Pietro stood staring at the computer screen connected to a large machine in the form of a cylinder. Penny was inside as the machine was scanning her whole body. The screen kept showing the process of the maintenance he was running. Not that far in the room were Ruby, Laphicet and Maria. The two young Huntsman and Huntress were watching the older man resume his work in silence. And the elderly woman was holding a bag of cashews, chewing some of them. After the incident with the girl robot, Penny was sent to her father's home so the problem with her eyes can be fixed. It didn't took that long but finding the sour of such damage would take longer.
"I see…."
"Is she going to be okay?" asked Ruby.
"She will. Her optics have been repaired but the cause of it is what has me concerned. A normal flash bang would never be able to damage her vision. Unless, it has been upgraded to be amplified to have the effect twice as strong."
"That's not good" replied the young Crowe.
"It's not."
"This guy sounds crazy to me. Attacking someone like Penny who is supposed to be a high tech weapon of the military. No offense dear" said Maria gazing at the machine.
"None taken!" replied the girl.
"The attacker might not be that crazy if he's using upgraded artillery. I doubt he got it from the military" Pietro stood in deep thought.
"This person had every intention to attack Penny. For what reason? And that upgraded flash bang…."
"It's not looking good if Penny is having trouble with this attacker. We really need to find him and fast" said the red cloak girl.
Laphicet gave a nod as he excused himself leaving the room. He has opened his scroll as he texted his older sister.
*Sorry for troubling you. Are you busy?*
He immediately got a reply from Velvet.
*I'm not that busy at the moment. What is it?*
The young Crowe stood in thought as he texted.
*We're not having any luck catching the killer. Pietro looks really worried even if Penny's okay now. I think we should change our tactic….*
The teen sighed needed to be careful with his word.
*What do you have in mind?*
Here we go, this was exactly what he was expecting. Touching the keys on the screen as he sent the text.
*If I can use my animal form to find him.*
*Absolutely not!*
Laphicet flinched imagining if Velvet was right here giving him her angry expression.
*We have agreed to use this power for emergencies only.*
*Isn't this an emergency? So many innocent people have been killed already. We can't waste any more time.*
*Think Laphicet. You transformed and they see you, what do you think will happen? Mantle is already on edge because of the killer and the military's strict watch. The last thing they need is some unknown creature running the streets. More chaos will attract more Grimm, that's more work for James and us.
The boy sighed not sounding happy but he still understood her point.
*I know you want to help but for now, we keep a sharp eye. We resume patrol and wait for any confirmation from the military if they find a lead.*
The young Crowe made another text not knowing why he chose to type this. He was feeling stubborn.
*You sure it's not because you don't want me to use my animal form? I have only transformed once from that time Ozpin gave us the power. You weren't happy.*
*I wasn't happy because you made a disaster, causing a commotion that could have awoken all of Mistral.*
*That was an accident okay, fine. Later.*
He finally closed his device not wanting to talk to her anymore. Guess it was to stick to the old plan than coming up with a new one.
The team of Oscar, Yang, Blake and Cardin finally finished on their mission for the day. They have returned to Atlas Academy to meet up with Team FNKI. The team were generous enough to invite them to one of their favorite places to hang out after finishing a hard day's of work. More like boring because that's exactly how it was. Being inside of convoys as the materials for the communication tower are being transported was no fun at all. They were just looking after things and make sure they don't get attack on the way. Sadly, there was no action and it was a slow and boring ride. They were all relief it was finally over. As they arrived to the school Team FNKI were already present waiting.
Needless to say the Atlas team was so happy looking forward to it. As they took the private transportation of the school, Neon let it slipped that they were going to a dance joint unable to keep her excitement. It was impossible to keep it a secret anymore. That's when Cardin was having second thoughts about this. He knows very well how he feels when it comes to dancing. Not a fan of it or his cup of tea. Oscar was nervous never had a chance to dance before being born in a farm. Blake was fine with it because they deserve some time off and Yang was very eager. She never got the chance to dance when she went to the Klub in Vale. Because she was so busy beating Junior's men and bringing down the roof, literally. Hopefully that won't be the case this time around.
The craft landed in an official parking for ships of the capital. FNKI lead the way knowing where to go as the others were still in awe at the sight of the capital. Atlas was truly different compare to it's opposite Mantle. Everywhere they looked there was evidence of the high technological advancement of the kingdom. Neon gave a squeal of delight, so happy they were finally here. The four stood staring at the big building with the beautiful neon lights. The sing read" The Atlas Star". The music was loud enough it could clearly be heard from outside. There was a line of people that wanted to enter. On the front door was a big guy with a brown afro wearing a black suit and shades.
"This is the place?" asked Yang.
"Best dance club in the capital" followed Flynt.
"It also has the best music!" replied Neon.
"With a nice variety of beverages" said Kobalt.
"Nice folks too" added Ivori.
Oscar was looking timid and a bit anxious. Guess he could give it a try in knowing how to dance. It was one of those liberties he can do now that he wasn't paying attention to his farming duties. Cardin remained calm while not wanting to make a big fuss over it. They could have gone anywhere but a dance club. But the Winchester look at it at the bright side of things. The sooner this was done, the better. They waited in line until they were attended by the afro bouncer. Team FNKI showed their students ID while the non-student ones showed their Huntsman license.
"Hi Marv!" greeted Neon.
"I knew it wouldn't be long before you would show up" the man gave a smile at the sight of the team.
"You can't keep us from coming here" the cat faunus gave a teasing raspberry.
"Say Neon, sorry to bring the bad news. You can't go in with your skates anymore."
"What?!" that was enough for the only female member of the team to lose it.
"It's a new rule nothing personal, just following business policies."
"That is baloney! I always come here with my skates and there has never been anything wrong with it!"
Marv pointed behind him. A sing that said" No roller blades". Neon stood with wide eyes along with the rest of her teammates. Yang and the others didn't know how to feel about the new rule.
"Like I said, new rule. If you want to enter you have to take them off."
"I can't believe this! What do you have against roller blades?!"
"Nothing. But the boss has been complaining a lot lately because of your…."
"Are you trying to put the blame on me?!"
"Maybe it has something to do with what happened the last time we were here" replied Flynt.
The cat faunus stood in thought and got annoyed at that event.
"That was an accident. I didn't meant to land all the way to the bar. I only broke a few bottles."
"You broke thirty with a cost of ten thousand lien in total" said Kobalt.
"There was also the accident when you crashed on the DJ's booth" added Ivori.
"Hello, accident."
"He had a concussion" said the blue haired teen.
"Okay fine so I caused some minor problems but I didn't mean it. I can't help it when I hear the awesome music I just have to dance."
"You basically move around on your roller blades. Not exactly dancing to me" said the afro bouncer.
"Okay you win. But only because we're bringing guests this time."
Giving a groan, Neon started removing the buckles on the skates. Now she will have to enter the club wearing only her socks. And here Yang thought she made quite the ruckus when she destroyed the Klub while looking for Raven. The cat faunus took them off giving a sour look to the bouncer.
"You look after them and they better be with you and in good shape when we're heading out. They're my favorite pair."
"Sure thing" Marv took the pair of skates.
"Can we finally go in?" Cardin was annoyed he really wanted this over with.
"Yeah, you all checked out. Enjoy yourselves."
"That will be hard because I don't have my skates" Neon muttered walking along with her teammates.
As they entered, the music was obviously getting louder crossing a short corridor. Their eyes were on the sight before them. The place was packed as expected but it was incredible. A lot of effects along with holograms, it looked like it was coming from some movie. Yang smiled liking this more than the Klub it was way better. Best of all, the DJ wasn't wearing a bear suit just, some cool clothes silver with rainbow to bled in with the lights. Neon didn't stood still as she was so hype, taking Oscar's hand to lead him to the dance floor. The farm hand didn't saw it coming and he was so embarrassed because he has never dance before. Yang smirked turning to Cardin who gave her the look he was not doing this. And she replied taking his hand much to his annoyance.
Blake followed with Flynt as he signaled his teammates they'll be back later. Kobalt didn't had a problem as he went to the bar area wanting to get a drink. Ivory was fine with it too as he spotted a few of his friends that always come to the club. He will hang out as usual with them. Neon removed any annoyed thoughts at the fact she wasn't wearing her skates as she moved her body to the techno music. Poor Oscar was right next to her trying his best to keep up. He had no clue what he was doing. The cat faunus smiled at him as she got closer to him causing a blush to strike his cheek. Best course of action will be to follow her lead, mimic her moves. That wasn't so hard or, so he thought.
Cardin wished he wouldn't be here, he really regretted his choice. Just what was he thinking. Maybe because Yang kept on insisting to accept FNKI invitation over being an anti-social jerk. She wasn't planning in letting him go without a yes. So here he was barely doing anything on the dance floor. The blond brawler slightly hit him trying to motivate to dance. Even teaching him to follow her lead just like Oscar is doing with Neon. Blake was in the same boat following everyone and she like it. It was nice to have this kind of fun every once in a while. Specially with how busy they've been since arriving to Atlas. The amber eyed girl was enjoying the music and the people.
The light show all around was hard to ignore but they resumed dancing. The Winchester finally gave up, letting loose still he wasn't enjoying it. That is until Yang got a little closer to him. For some reason his eyes were all over the blond brawler's body. The way move, her breast jiggle with each movements, her butt too. A blush hit his cheeks trying to remove any thoughts that will get him in trouble. He had no idea if she noticed as she was enjoying herself dancing, he will be too embarrassed. Yang has a great body and the way she was dancing was enough to catch his attention. The fact she was a little to close for comfort wasn't helping either. Not to mention her outfit is tight having a better view of her posterior.
Yang hide her smirk unfortunately for Cardin she did noticed the way his whole attention was on her body. She wasn't clueless and she didn't blame him with how she was moving. More like, she was doing this on purpose to get a reaction from him. The brawler didn't minded if he was a little distracted to focus on his dance moves. There was no harm in a little tease, the Winchester was able to restrain himself resuming to keep up. The others were having fun too with Oscar finally letting loose even if he didn't know. Just follow everyone else, it wasn't that hard. They basically danced until their bodies gave up as the DJ changed from one track to another. They left a good impression on Flynt and Neon.
"Cheers!"
The group were now on a table as they made a toast. It was obviously a not so expensive brand of alcohol. They were just drinking socially, nothing so serious. Unlike Kobalt who can easily drink more than one glass and not get drunk. Celebrating for this evening. Has to be the most fun they've ever had since coming to the kingdom. Taking a sip they continue to enjoyed the sights and the music. They could not believe more people were arriving as it couldn't get any more packed than it already is.
"We really needed this. You guys know how to party" said Yang.
"This is only one of our many ways to enjoy ourselves" replied Neon.
"I actually had fun. I had no idea what I was doing at first. But now, I guess dancing isn't that tough after all" said Oscar.
"It only comes natural once you get used to it" said Ivori.
"Yeah" the farm youth blushed slightly still feeling embarrassed he danced for the first time in his life.
"It's been a while since I have danced. At least not to this kind of music" said Blake.
Cardin remained quiet, no way he was sharing his experience. He was still embarrassed and annoyed. This wasn't just his thing, he didn't like it. It brought him memories when his mother tried to talk him into going to a dance club. Of course it was for the purpose to meet girls and get himself a girlfriend. Trisha kept telling him women like to dance. Too bad for her, it was the opposite for him. So any ladies will find him lame. The Winchester noticed Yang gave him a quick look as she was expecting to hear his take. Nope, not gonna happen she can forget it.
"Glad to know you guys are having fun. We come here frequently, so we're well known" said Flynt.
"We love it. Isn't that right Cardin?"
The Winchester turned to the blond brawler. Damn it, she has to bring him into this. She just couldn't help herself wanting to know his opinion on this activity.
"Y...Yeah. It was, cool."
"That doesn't sound so sure."
"It was nice" he sweat dropped.
"It doesn't matter if you can't dance. Everyone has fun at the Atlas Star. If that's not your jam you can always try out the many exotic drinks they have available" said Kobalt.
"Don't forget to drink responsibly" added Ivori.
"I'm cool" he wasn't a drinker either.
"I only took a sip. That's enough for me" said Oscar.
"Next time we're going to the ice skating ring!" said Neon with a big smile.
"Ice..Skating?" replied Blake.
"It's similar to skating but a little difficult. I'll teach you guys everything you need to know."
"Thanks. Next time we're asking the others to come along. It will make it better" said Yang.
A new song was set as Neon immediately got up from the table.
"Oh my gosh! This is my favorite song!"
Without a word she took Oscar's hand dragging the poor teen back to the dance floor. Yang gave a grin at Cardin as he gave her a "no" look. The brawler ignored it taking his hand, another one being dragged. The others chuckled seeing that they still have energy for another dance. It was going to be a long night.
It felt so long, too long, since Velvet has had so much fun in her entire life. At least until she came to Remnant. She barely remembers when has she felt so happy and enjoying this second chance at life. Her heart beating with joy as she had a big smile similar to the one she will give when she was the young and hard working girl from Abal village. Holding the hand of her boyfriend as Jaune was as happy, acting like a regular couple in love that wants to have fun. She told him she wanted to go on a date and the Arc has delivered. He obeyed like the obedient boyfriend he is. It didn't took them that long to arrive to Atlas and explore the city before deciding where to go first. The city was big and easy to get lost.
Jaune suggested to see a movie. The theaters looked big and he's been wanting to see how a movie would look with the kingdom's advance technology feature. Realistic 3D or virtual reality, he knew the experience must be out of this world. But Velvet turned it down, its not what she wanted. The Arc was fine with her decision, maybe they can go later. They spent an hour roaming the capital searching for anything that will get the older Crowe's attention. And they found it as the young woman stood with a smile. The lights, the people, the attraction, a place where anyone can have fun. A carnival, that's what it was called. There was no doubt about it. Velvet was told about them back in her world but she never went to one.
Her first one looked amazing it was in the capital of the kingdom of Atlas. She wasn't going to stand there and waste time, she took the blond's hand as they went to the line. Taking their lien, they bought the tickets and entered the carnival. Quite the crowd but Velvet kept dragging the blond not having a clue where to go. That wasn't going to stop her as she looked around so eager and anxious. Jaune just smiled at the young woman, this was the first time he has seen her so happy. Guess hiding he true feelings was a bad thing to do. If she wanted a date then he will give it to her and he will try to make it as good as he can. Looks like his girlfriend has found the first ride they were boarding.
A roller coaster, pretty cool looking from a simple glance. This was also the Arc's first time at a carnival too. He knew about them and he never got a chance to see one when he was attending Beacon. It was the same when he was living in his village. They waited on the long line and luckily it was moving fast. Just a couple of minutes before they will get their turn. They waited as Velvet didn't minded finally having some real fun for once. The carts were big enough and quite comfy. The ride, was a whole new experience for either. It was fast, intense, enough to rise anyone's heart rate and blood pressure. They still had fun while Jaune was so glad he didn't had anything to eat before getting to the ride. Save him from getting into an embarrassing and gross situation.
The blond Huntsman suggested to go to an easier ride that wasn't so fast and extreme. The older Crowe didn't argued as they resumed traveling the crowded place. They went to a few more rides, then they had some food, followed by playing some of the games available. Jaune thought playing a few and maybe win a nice prize for his girlfriend. Sounded cliché but he was willing to do it if it makes her happy. Unfortunately, Velvet beat him first. She has volunteered to play spending some lien. Staring at her face filled with so much joy the Arc didn't argue letting her have the fun. The first game was using a fake laser gun hit all the holographic targets. The former therion didn't had a problem considering how she learned aiming using Vertex Rose in gun mode.
She won a price choosing a plush toy that reminded her of the malak Bienfu and Magilou's partner. Another was hitting hologram Grimm and noticed head shots give her extra points. Because she hit every single one with those, she got a new high score. Winning another price she was interested in a shirt in white that said" Tales of Berseria" in pink and purple letters. Why not, she like it and it seems to be her side too. The third one was is filling barrels with water, it was easier than the previous two. Her next price was a little bigger than the first one a Grimm but this one was cuter than the average creature. Resembling a pup Beowulf Velvet didn't minded thinking it was cute. Jaune offered to carry it due to it's size as the long haired woman was carrying the other two.
They spent walking the carnival watching the people, the lights and the rides. After a long walk they chose to get seated in one of the benches. Jaune was staring at the young woman with a big smile, so happy she was happy. The difference was clear as day her expression from the one she used to have before. Proving that she needed this to lighten up and relax. To forget the burden of their mission and out all troubling thoughts aside. Velvet was always a person that must do something and stand strong. But even she deserves to take a break from everything. The Arc was so glad this evening did it for her.
"I don't have to ask but I will anyway. Feeling better?" he smiled.
"Much better. Thanks" she smiled back.
"If all you wanted was a date all you needed to do is ask. Want me to get you a snack and a drink?" he got up ready to hit the nearest food shack.
"Don't go" she took his hand.
"Okay" he immediately got seated back.
"I should have tell you about this a while back. It's true what Laphicet said. I have been having a bad dream as of late…."
(Music: "Theme of Velvet" from the Tales of Berseria original soundtrack)
"You don't have to, I know of it. After everything we've been through it's pretty normal to have nightmares. I have since Beacon, Pyrrha, traveling Anima, Haven, Argus. The list goes on."
"Not me. I've been having this dream since coming here. As soon as I returned to Atlas, it's been haunting me every single night. I can barely sleep."
The blond felt her hand squeezing his but not too tight. He squeezed it back assuring her.
"What's it about?"
"Salem" the only word that came out of her mouth.
The Arc stood in thought as he pulled her closer. Yeah, the one that has been trying to shoulder the fate of Remnant in her shoulders would obviously have bad dreams about the Grimm witch.
"I open my eyes and it's all destroyed. Bodies everywhere along with you and everyone and there she stood. I fought her, she was too strong I couldn't stop her. She kills me…." her voice broke slightly.
"It's just a dream" he wrapped his arm around her neck pulling her closer.
"Is it?"
"It's just another nightmare Velvet. Everyone has them it's perfectly normal. Okay, maybe not normal if its about a powerful being that controls Grimm and has magic but you get the idea."
"I shouldn't worried, I know that well. But the fact that I started having it since coming back here it can't be a coincidence. There has to be some sort of meaning behind it. I read from one of Laphi's books that sometimes dreams can be a way to predict the future. What if that the dream is the future? I have to find a way to prevent it from happening."
He gave a soft sigh as his hand caress her long dark hair. There she goes with stretching things.
"That dream might lead to events that are yet to come. A taste of things to come."
"We all think Atlas is next in Salem's list which is the reason why we've been preparing ourselves for the worst. We've been training, listening to all kinds of plans General Ironwood has in mind for the people of both cities. There could be the reason you've been having that dream."
"I hope you're right and that dream is just a dream. If Ozpin has been growing weaker through the centuries then Salem must have been growing stronger. That leaves us in a big disadvantage. We will know when we fight her."
"Velvet, that's enough. Try not to think about the mission and focus on the moment right now. Enjoy it while it lasts. We're on a date, remember?"
"How can I forget? You being here makes it all worth it" she gave another smile.
(Music end)
"So, where to next? We haven't eaten anything yet if you want we can go for another ride."
The older Crowe smiled again but this one was different. Jaune didn't know why he was getting nervous all of the sudden. That smile she was giving had something that he has never seen before. Adding a playful grin made alarms sound in his head. What was going on why was his girlfriend giving him that grin. Better try and bring a topic because this was concerning him. Poor guy never got the chance as the former therion has taken his hand dragging him away. He had no idea where she was taking him until realizing they were leaving the carnival. It really got the better of his curiosity because she wanted to go. With his other hand he was trying to hold on to the medium size price Velvet won. She didn't had a problem holding the plush toy and the shirt.
By now, they were so far away from the carnival. The Arc wanted to ask her where was she taking him but that look in her eyes and that grin. It prevented him from saying a word. His cheeks were turning red whatever it was, he likes that expression. Not noticing that the older Crowe has sent him to a corner on a street, where was little light. It was dark but he was able to see her. Just what was she planning those were his thoughts until, she kissed him. The blond was taken by surprise but accepted the kiss with equal passion. Their breaths getting heavy as a couple of moans were heard. Their lips were still locked, hormones flying, arousal increasing. Jaune's vision was getting blurry having a little trouble breathing. But he didn't care, he wanted to continue.
As their arousal grew Velvet started grinding her hips, earning a groan from the blond Huntsman. That was enough for that part of his body to react along with her hands all over his chest. It's like she wanted to rip his clothing and have him all to herself. The Arc was in the same boat wanting to remove every piece of clothing from her. Just see her in all her naked glory oh yes, he was crossing that line. The point of no return and he won't regret with the way she was kissing and smacking her hips with his. She wanted this, he wanted this they were on the same page. Then it hit him as he noticed people passing by. They still haven't seen them yet, how long until they get caught. Gathering the strength to break the kiss as both were panting. Pretty sure his girlfriend isn't happy.
"I don't...Think...This is...the right place…I-shouldn't we go to a room, rent a hotel?"
"I don't have enough lien...Do you?"
"No. I'm the same" guess this spent quite the amount buying the carnival tickets.
"This will have to do then."
And she went back to kiss him trying to get back on the mood. Her arousal was that high, she probably didn't had enough patience to start stripping and begin the show. You know what, he screw it. He could care less if there were people not that far he wanted this bad. Arousal too strong to ignore and break this make out session. It got even hotter when Velvet put his hands on her chest. Boob touching, his mind screamed a big yes. And just when they were about to take it to the next level of intimacy, they were interrupted. By the sound of a scroll. Velvet glared knowing it was her scroll, breaking the kiss she grabbed the device and wanted to shatter it into a million pieces. Seeing the caller was Ironwood got her angrier.
"Maybe you should answer it. It could be important."
And the Arc shut up as he saw the fierce glare from the older Crowe. Whatever, he killed the mood. Just when she really wanted to go further. Giving a sigh she touched the screen answering it. Her anger was still there.
"I decided to ditched our mission because I needed some time off. Time off, well spent" she was annoying remembering she was in such a great mood to do it with her boyfriend.
*I figured that was the case. Pretending that the communication was being cut off was a good plan. But, the signal is stronger in both Mantle and Atlas.*
"Any luck?"
*Not yet. I can let your disobedience slipped by just this once. Because I understand your reasons. You're a hardworking person Velvet, a trait I respect. Just try not to do it again.
"There was also me telling Robin about the dead soldier whose uniform was stolen by the killer. Classified information."
*I appreciate reminding me* Pretty obvious he was being sarcastic, how could he forget.
"You need her on your side. She can vouch for you and the military. So far she has proven to be trustworthy" not to mention she was also good judge of character her semblance also helps.
*The truth cannot be revealed as long as that killer is on the loose. And speaking of Robin Hill the reason for calling you is that she will be doing a speech in a few minutes. It will be her last before the election.*
Velvet stood in thought. That's right she almost forgot, the election is only three days away. That will explain why they've been showing the early poll results as well as frequent speeches and interviews. So far Jacquess Schnee has been doing a terrible job. Anyone that could see that all of his pretty words were nothing but lies. The only reason he increased his employees salary because he doesn't have a choice. He needs them otherwise the SDC will be facing tough times. With the dust embargo finally lifted, work can resume as schedule.
"I'll watch it. It will be a whole lot better than listening to her opponent."
*She does has a big lead over Jacquess. But I wouldn't count him out just yet.*
"Thanks for letting me know."
The General ended the call as she gave a sigh. The mood was ruined, she was still upset and annoyed. Turning to her boyfriend she knew he wasn't happy either. He didn't looked angry more like disappointed.
"Sorry."
"That's okay. We're not in the right place to begin with. It can wait."
"Asides from this, thanks for tonight. You have no idea how happy you just made me" she smiled.
"I'll always be there for you whenever you need me."
"Let's head back to the school."
Weiss was so happy when she was in the same vehicle with her sister and brother. They had a small chat before dropping Whitley at the manor. After that, it went all quiet. She had no idea why her older sister was so silent. Asking her where she taking her. Her only replied that she will know when they get there. Okay, that sounded a bit cryptic. When they finally arrived the former heiress got nervous. It had the appearance like a building of the military, clueless to why Winter will bring her here. Just walking the hallways was enough to give her the creeps, security was everywhere. It's like they were keeping some kind of secret weapon that has to be it. The older Schnee let her entered a room as she went in and the door closed.
The room was empty except there was a big glass window with a perfect view to the outside. Another room but this one had a bed, hospital equipment, along with some paintings and a kitchen. Her eyes were on the person that was on the bed. A thin old woman looking a little younger than Maria with short spiky white hair and dark blue eyes. Wearing a green and white hospital outfit with a silver bracelet on her right wrist. Weiss had no idea who she was when the door to the room opened as her sister walked in. The Specialist politely salute her with a good morning while offering her some tea and she replied liking the hot tea on a cold day. It hit the former heiress watching them enjoy a cup.
It didn't took her that long to connect the dots of the picture. That elderly woman has to be the Winter Maiden. It will explain why she was being kept in this military facility being guarded like something of extreme importance. Well she is, she's basically the key to opening the vault in Atlas Academy gaining access to the relic of Creation. But her appearance made it clear she was in no condition to travel. Watching them talk like they have known each other for a while. Her eyes widened a little as she knew what was going on. Her sister was probably the only one that could visit her which means one thing. The white haired girl's expression was filled with concern not wanting to believe it.
After half and hour, they were done as Winter washed the tea set and bid farewell to the older woman. She returned to her side as she kept her eyes on the old woman that has fallen asleep.
"Her name is Fria."
"And she's the Winter Maiden?" followed the former heiress.
"She's under military strict watch I'm the only one she's allowed to see. I know it sounds uncomfortable. She could pass any day now."
"You want to become the next Winter Maiden?" she went straight to the point.
"I do."
"Did General Ironwood-"
"He didn't. I wasn't ordered to accept the powers. It was a choice I made. The General was hesitant asking me for the role. But I chose this myself. This is a very important power that must be use for the sake of others and not the other way around. That's why he believes I'm the better suited candidate and I agree."
"Does it bother you, I mean knowing everything and the fact that your life will be at risk when you become a maiden?"
"Ever since Velvet told me I knew I had to do something. I understood why General Ironwood chose to keep this a secret from me. This is a war that has been fought for many years and the relics, the maidens. They're a power that must never fall into the wrong hands. I have to do my best to protect it. So when I told him I knew, he wasn't that surprised. It is how I make myself useful to his cause. As for the risking my life part that is rather silly. Everyone in the military are constantly risking their lives just like a Huntsman. It makes no difference whether I'm the maiden or not. As long as the Vault remains closed I'm a target. There's no need to worried."
"You're my sister I have every right to worry."
"As do I" she smiled back.
"You don't regret your choice?"
"Sometimes we are force to make tough decisions depending on the situation. It's not always because you don't have a choice but because you believe it's the right thing to do. Becoming the Winter Maiden is the right thing to do for me."
Weiss mentally sighed, she has made up her mind. Nothing she says will make her re-think her choice. Her older sister can be more stubborn than her.
"Does my decision troubles you?" asked the Specialist.
"I guess. But, if that's what you want then I will respect it."
"I'm so proud of you. Even spending time with Whitley" Winter grabbed the girl for a hug.
"It still surprises me that he would want to go with you. Instead of being by father's side."
"All he wants is to be acknowledge by mother and father like any other child. We chose against the fate of being the heiress of the SDC but he embrace it because, he thought father would pay more attention to him than us, or mother. No one was there for him, no better than how I used to be. That's why you have to be there for him too."
"I have missed out on a lot haven't I? It was never my intention to do it on purpose."
"We both missed out on our family. You can start with Whitley."
The older Schnee smiled thinking of settle things right with her brother. With her mother and, she stood in thought. She found it so hard if there was a way to bury the hatchet with her father. Settle things with Jacquess will be another story.
Watts was checking on his scroll, browsing through different sites. The man was calm and patient because everything was going according to plan so far. Jacquess has accepted his proposal all there needed was to wait for election night and then, the real fun will begin. A broadcast caught his attention and a grin was formed on his features. Early poll results have Robin Hill had a strong lead of the SDC president. Not for long, things are bound to change. Shake things up and cause the perfect distress that will make the people of Mantle lose complete hope on the Atlas military.
"No you fools!"
The former doctor turned to see Tyrian. Oh yeah, he was here almost forgetting he wasn't alone. The scorpion faunus was obviously in hiding from the military until the phase of the next plan starts. Until then, he was to wait along with him. And his presence was starting to annoy him. The crazy faunus wasn't happy as he was shouting at two sewer rats.
"You're suppose to fight each other to the death, not fight each other for a piece of bread!"
He kicked the bread away while the two mice went after it. It only infuriate him even more. The scorpion faunus went after them, capturing the two as they were struggling.
"Let's do this one more time. Mickey you despise Ronnie so you're suppose to bite him, tear away at his flesh. And Ronnie, he's the one that took your meal the last time, he ate all of that rotten cheese. Hate him, hate each other, fight, fight, fight!"
"Can you please keep quiet?" Watts was ready to explode.
"I can't kill time, so this is all I can do. Unless you have a job for me."
"No. The mission is three days from now during election night. We wait until then."
And he groaned not happy then, a wicked grin formed his lips. He resumed playing with the rats.
"You two won't fight to the finish, I will have to make you" he released his blades from his gauntlets.
The tech genius turned his gaze away getting back to his scroll. He ignored the slashing sounds having an idea what his partner was doing. He heard chuckling from behind him.
"Oops, I killed them. I only wanted to motivate them a bit so they could fight" and he grinned with his blades covered in blood.
"Tyrian shut your trap!" the former doctor finally lost it.
"I'm bored! Deal with it!"
"How about play the silence game? You don't say a word for three days."
"That game sucks."
"Understandable since you're so bad at it. You can barely stay quiet for five minutes!"
Watts calmed himself down signaling the scorpion faunus to lower his volume. They better keep their voice down. Even if they were in the most isolated part of the slums of Mantle. The military was still searching high and low for him. They couldn't get caught no matter what or the mission will failed.
"Go to the other room, find more of your rat friends to play with. And try to keep quiet. We can't draw too much attention to ourselves."
Tyrian didn't said anything as he obeyed leaving the former doctor alone. The man gave a sigh of pure relief that he was finally gone. Maybe he can finally relax. These are going to be the longest three days of his entire life.
Robin stared at the stack of papers she was holding. That was too long so she chose to summarize the important parts. And she memorized everything because she hates reading from it while being on camera or reading it from a screen. To her it doesn't reflect her true self and everything should be spoken from the heart than some sheet of paper. Her feelings that's what's important. The leader of the Merry Huntress and candidate for council walked over the podium. Joanna was behind a camera with Fiona and May not that far.
"We're ready whenever you are Robin" said the sheep faunus.
"Right. Let's do this" she smiled.
"And we're live in five..four..three…." Fiona was silent signaling her leader.
The camera Joanna was controlling had the red light. Telling the woman that they were live. With determination in her eyes she gazed at the camera giving a cordial smile.
"Good evening people of Mantle and Atlas. I hope you're all doing good and feeling better after past events. I know we're still worried regarding the murderer wandering around our city and that the military hasn't had any luck finding him. I understand that many of you are having a hard time to put your trust in them and in General Ironwood. But we must keep faith that everything will be all right it's not much, it's all we can do right now. It's a dire situation and it makes it difficult to look at the positive things that has taken place in in the past two months."
"Mantle is healing. The economy is growing, stronger with each day, many jobs were created decreasing unemployment rate, our education system has been reformed for the betterment of our children, no more people being kicked out of their homes because they have the money to keep it, no more people dying of hunger at least to an extent. The border wall was finally fixed and reinforced, along with armed security to accompany it. It feels like this city is going back to how it used to be. The council fulfilled their promise to help us, living up to their word. However, why now? We have been suffering through this crisis for almost a year and the dust embargo made things worse."
"Why did it took them so long to act and send us the proper aid we needed? Perhaps they have their differences to how handle these types of affairs, or perhaps they didn't care. That's not how it should be. There shouldn't be any conflict or internal discord when it comes to deciding the fate of a whole city under their jurisdiction. Their decisions should be made immediately, no hesitation. Everyone should agree on what is the right thing to do. It's not just about helping Atlas they keep forgetting they get elected to work for the kingdom not one city. If it will take this long to respond who knows how bad the situation would have gotten. If it could have gotten any worse than it already did."
"If I'm elected for council I will make sure to go there representing every single one of you. Because Atlas must hear our voice too. Don't think of yourself but think about others, your family, your friends, your neighbors, everyone. This kingdom as a whole. Let's give unity a chance, I will try and I'm hoping the council tries too. Regardless of General Ironwood's harsh actions towards Mantle, we must keep the faith. Hatred isn't the way, it will only lead to more violence, it will tear us apart. It won't be an easy journey but I will give it my best to make sure the kingdom of Atlas lives to its fullest. For peace, for all of us. That is why I want to sit on the council. Not for myself, but for everyone. Mantle and Atlas."
"As for my opponent in the race, I have nothing to say. I know nothing of Jacquess Schnee asides being president and owner of the SDC. But those that do know him, you might know the kind of person he is. In the end you decide because in three days you will choose who will be representing you. Always think for the well being others. Thank you and good night."
The camera shut down as she off the air. Joanna, May and Fiona all smiled at their leader. Robin smiled too, she was able to say everything she memorized. The rest was up to the people.
To be continued
-Nothing much in this chapter except for the Velvet/Jaune make out scene. Been wanting to do that for a long time. Hope you enjoy it as much as me.
-The first song playing at the dance club was a techno version of "Trust Love" the opening of v7. The second song is Neon from the v3 soundtrack which is obviously Neon's favorite song.
-Replying to reviews:
*Zero The One- there will be more Qrow/Winter as well as other ships in the future.
*SaberFan117- thanks I've been feeling better and here's the next chapter.
*TheEmeraldMage- thank you always for the endless support my friend. Even in these dire times you take your time to read the story or others. I appreciate it.
*Jamieoeyes- It's my opinion agree to disagree I'm not putting up with this stupid argument" if you don't like it don't watch it" if I earn a penny for every time someone say that to me, I will be Penny millionaire with my own robot army. I acknowledge CRWBY's hard work EXCEPT for the writing which is the most important part of the job. All they're doing is squeezing their budget on everything except the writing. Like I said you can make the best animated show, best sound, best voice acting, best soundtrack, best animation but if the writing is shit the story is shit. I appreciate your honesty but I'm done being good guy because I used to give these people the benefit of the doubt until I realize after watching this volume, they're not going to change, they're not going to improve, they're not going to listen to criticism. And eventually this show is going to get worse. So why should I go easy on them? Why should I play nice? It's always quantity over quality with this show. Rant over.
*Gabriel443- muchisiman gracias.
*Guest- thank yourself
*Guest- thanks I have big plans to how things are going to go very different with canon.
*CT7567Rules- that is yet to be seen. Tyrian is actually one of my villains it's going to be interesting if there will be a confrontation between him and Velvet.
*TPoynt- understood your point and you're not being disrespectful because my last AN was very harsh because I was upset when I was writing it. I will be bringing your point below when I talk about the finale.
*Saint Saber Fang- good luck with any stories you're planning in writing.
*Taromaru- thank you but it's okay I understand their reason and it's perfectly fine with me. They have every right to give their opinion when writing a review and also they're not detractors they're good people who are followers of my stories. I will never hate on them. I was angry when I wrote that AN because ch12 no, the last chapters of v8 really put me in a very bad mood. It's understandable.
*Guest- I wouldn't call it worse than v4, worse than v5 definitely. Right now my top 3 worse RWBY volumes are 1-v8, 2-v5 and 3-v7
*Multiverse walker- I'm just hurt at how this show has turned out. Sometimes I feel like the so called heroes of this story are actually the villains. It's my opinion and I have put my thoughts on the finale below.
*Guest- thank you.
*TPoynt- I'm not upset about your argument. I was upset when I wrote that long AN so it's understandable why I sounded so negative. For me judging a characters actions based on the fairy tale characters they're based on is an excuse. True Qrow is based on the Scarecrow from the Wizard of Oz but he's not him, Ironwood based on the tin man but he's not him, it goes to all of the characters of the show. They were created inspired and based on those fairy tale characters but they're not those characters. The characters of RWBY are their own character. Lately CRWBY has been stretching the lore of fairy tale characters I didn't minded back then but now, I guess it's getting rather annoying. Penny is the perfect example she's based on Pinnochio and then in this volume they decided to do the parallel of the fairy tale. I think that was the reason why she was made human, just for the sake of showing the fans" look everyone Penny's human now just like Pinnochio". I don't see another reason why. Even when she was a robot if she gets destroyed the maiden powers will get transferred. That's all I have to say I'm sorry if my opinion bothered you.
-Haven't seen ch14 the finale of v8 but I have seen many reviews of it and…I'm not angry compare to how I was when I wrote that long ass AN after ch12 was released. Before that I apologize to everyone for my outburst I know it was uncalled for but I have had it with these writers and their thinking that everything they do is amazing. Though it shouldn't come as a surprise considering the kind of fans CRWBY pander to, the toxic schills who only care about their gay ships over the story. I will get to the important stuff. Though I might watch all the episodes I missed out maybe starting from ch9 onward.
-Ch14 titled" The Final Word"- what can I say this finale was exactly how I thought it was going to end. Of course there were a few things I did not saw coming but most, I knew it was going to happen. For starters, Salem showing up almost at the end of the episode. I called it, I wanted the other way around but nope, CRWBY being predictable as always. Cinder once again taking the damn villain spot light attacking the heroes (maybe she's the real antagonist of the show?). Second, Salem forgiving her for her disobedience as she gave her both the lamp and the staff and in return she got a pat on the back from the Grimm witch. Apparently she used the final question (good bye Jinn and Colleen Clickenbeard) to know Ruby and the group's plan which it was again a horrible plan.
-This one will go with a rant. Penny died at the hands of Jaune *sighs deeply*. Apparently Cinder was able to owned Penny (don't know how because she owned her in ch5) taking more of her maiden powers and she requested for Jaune to kill her so she can transfer the power to Winter. You know I'm a person who uses logic and common sense and I've been wondering why this was done. I will ask this question, what was the point of Penny coming back if she was going to die in the end? Another one similar but longer. What was the point of her getting character development throughout v7 and 8, getting framed for murder, understanding more of what it is like to be human, bonding with Winter, becoming a maiden, choosing to stay by her friends' side and try to do what's right in defying Ironwood, choosing to sacrifice herself to make Ruby's plan a success, overcoming her limits to resist Watts' hacking and stay in control, and becoming a real human, just so she could die? What was the point of it all? Because her death makes it all pointless everything she went through was pointless, her character growth is pointless if she's dead. Don't you think Penny deserves to live a happy life as a human? Don't you think she deserves to grow old with her friends, or find a boyfriend or girlfriend and star a family? Die of old age? It's all pointless. Might as well throw her character out of the window. Because that's exactly what the writers did when they had her killed off.
-Jaune killing Penny- I still don't know what was the point of Penny dying after being human for like ten minutes. So why is it Jaune the one to killed her? If the writers want drama, emotion, angts wouldn't it be better if someone close to her does the job like Ruby for example? I feel like they did this with the purpose to do a parallel of Pyrrha that killed her off the first time in v3. Now it's her partner's turn to take the blame and the guilt yay. They could be using this to developed Jaune's character in the future and I hope I'm right. His development has been bad since v7.
-Bringing again the point of Penny's death being pointless to the story because in the end she gave the powers to Winter. You know the person that was originally to become the maiden in v7 as stated by her conversation with Weiss in ch5 titled" Sparks"? If Penny was used to be her replacement why killed her? It goes full circle with her becoming the maiden. And I'm calling it Summer Rose is alive and she's the Summer Maiden because her first name is Summer get it?
-Killing characters for the heck of it- now I know that this volume is suppose to be tragic but there were characters I never thought would be dying. At least not yet. Hazel was the first character. I thought he would die by v9 or 10 not this soon. Another great character that was butchered by the writers. Penny is another I already said my part regarding her. Watts was definitely someone I didn't saw it coming I mean seriously even if I don't like his VA Chris Sabat because he's involved in the Vic Mignogna scandal I still like the character he voiced. In addition he became my favorite villain in this volume because he spit on Cinder's face with the facts of the kind of person she is entitle to everything like a spoil brat throwing temper tantrums. Vine and I don't care he died protecting the others of the Ace Ops from the bomb that was originally to be the one to destroy the Grimm whale. What do we know about him? Nothing, the writers didn't gave me a reason to care for this character. No background story not even to the rest of the group. So I could care less he's dead. As for Ironwood come on we all knew was he was going to die by the end of the volume. The poor guy dug his grave when he was turned villain for the sake of the shitty plot.
-The show's dumbest character- I thought this award would go to Ironwood for trusting Winter when she disobeyed him clearly she was a traitor. And he still chose to trust her even letting her accompany him to receive Penny alone. Or maybe to Team RWBY because lately they've been acting really stupid, asides getting nerfed for the sake of the plot. Yang falling off the yellow brick road and Ruby couldn't use her semblance to save her, or Weiss using her summon or glyphs, or Blake by coincidence the rope of Gambol Shroud was too short to reach her (in another scene the rope seems longer when she was saving Ruby oh well). But no, this award goes to someone who has defied logic and reason showing it's so dumb, it shatters the stupid barrier out of orbit. Who am I talking about? Why Neo of course! I was happy when she betrayed Cinder taking the lamp but then she decided to resume helping her just because she apologized I double face palmed (thank you CRWBY for turning her into a retard). No surprise Cinder betrays her letting her fall off the yellow brick road with Ruby and I'm "bitch you had that coming, you should have seen it coming!" Did she really thought Cinder was going to let her betrayal slide just like that? Not without paying the price. I will agreed again with what Vexed Viewer said on his Neo analysis video, Neo is NOT a character she's a plot device for Cinder.
-The ending in general- basically RWBY got owned by Cinder (finally thank you writers I am happy you did this, except for Penny she didn't deserved to die). They all fell off the yellow brick road and as warned by Ambrosius "do not fall". Winter defeated Ironwood thanks to the maiden powers it was a good fight I enjoyed it. Cinder using the staff to send both Atlas and Mantle to the bottom of the sea (Salem should have been the one to do this but again Cinder takes the spot light). In the end it was another fall of Beacon only worse. At least the people are all saved for now because they're all in a desert under a sandstorm with Grimm not with Winter Maiden there to protect them. Awesome work heroes. I've been wondering where are Pietro and Maria? I didn't saw them in the group of people and at least we got a small glimpse that Robin and the Merry Huntresses are alive (yay sarcasm), maybe they're dead who knows. And if they're alive how will Pietro take the news that his daughter was turned human and was killed after?
-After credits scene- Crescent Rose stabbed on the ground paralleling the ending of the opening I like it. It seems where RWBY, Neo and Jaune fell into is Destiny Island so people we're getting that Kingdom Hearts crossover lol. It does look like it and I'm sure I'm not the only one who thinks so. So yeah RWBY v9 titled Jaune's Harem Island I know Rule 34 artists are going to have a field trip with this one lol. Jokes aside I have no idea where they're going with this. Don't know if they will focus on RWBY or the others at Vacuo or both. Maybe its too soon but I feel like they're stretching the story somehow.
-Jacquess's death- how could I ever forget about this. Not happy he was yet another character that got killed off in the finale thanks to Ironwood. Now don't get me wrong I hate Jacquess, he sucks part of me is happy that he's gone. The only reason I'm upset about his death is because he's part of Weiss's character development. Weiss needed to have a long conversation with her old man and come to a resolution to bury the hatchet and maybe fix the family. But it never happened. The moment he died it was the moment her character growth died too. For me it's another screw up by CRWBY. Just because they don't like a character they shouldn't just kill him off immediately.
-Emerald changing sides? Seriously do the writers think the fans are idiots? Wait, better not answer that. Last I checked she's loyal to Cinder, she's always been since v2. She was only on Salem's side because of Cinder. And suddenly she decides to switch side just like that? Cinder saw her helping the group and she had a reaction oh boy, I hope Emerald doesn't get a death flag. The way she did a 180 and decided to help the group it feels like Hazel changing sides that eventually got him killed. There could also be the fact that she's pretending to help her and she's going to betray them but she seems pretty sincere. Also Ren's semblance said she was afraid and that's enough reason for her to help them. But isn't she more afraid when Cinder finds out she's a traitor? I just had the feeling her character is going to get butchered too.
-Overall- I will give volume 8 a 3/10 it started good but as it got halfway it became bad. There were things that didn't made sense along with nerfing characters during fights and making them stupid. I can't stand when they do that to characters. They should know better because they have experience and training behind them. It was a letdown volume hoping it will be way better than v7. IMO Salem should have done more instead of Cinder taking the spot light please just kill her off already. But they won't because the writers love Jessica Nigri too much to get rid of her character. I wish the volume would have been an all out war style where the antagonist beats everyone and crushes their spirit and hopes that they can't win. I would like it if they think it's all over and then Ruby will get back to her feet and continue trying not to give up very anime style. Cliche, sure but it's a whole lot better than the ending we got. Infinity War ending my ass.
-That's all I have to say about that like I said I will watch ch9-14 now that they're officially available to view.
-I apologize to those that were offended by my opinion. I am done being nice, pretending like nothing's wrong with the writing of the show. I refuse to be a blind fan or a schill. I'd rather see things for what they are.
-New chapter of the Valkyrie of Remnant next week, hopefully.
-As always thank you very much for the favs, follows and reviews I really appreciate it.
