Happy Wednesday all! Here's another little snippet of out lovely family Kinsella. I am aiming to have another update to this one by the end of the week.
Enjoy!
"It would be nice to know where we're going, so I know what it is I am to wear," Zoe hinted towards her husband who entered the bedroom. Zoe stood looking in her closet with a towel wrapped around herself. Other than being told by her husband they were going out to dinner, she wasn't told where they were going or what else he had planned for her birthday.
"You can drop the towel and go in your birthday suit," Wade smirked, kissing his wife's cheek on the way to the bathroom to shower. "It is your birthday after all," he winked. Ever since his birthday a few months prior he's been working on what he wanted to do for his wife's birthday. He thought about having a town wide celebration, as the town loves her more now than they ever had before. But, it came down to him wanting to be selfish with his wife. He doesn't want to share her with anyone on her big day. You only turn 50 once. Of course, they would have a family dinner with their kids and have cake, he won't take that away from his kids, just the town.
"Wade," Zoe huffed, feeling the heat in her cheeks start to warm. "I'm being serious," she whined. She didn't want to be overdressed, if he chose to take them to their favorite little bar, outside the Jammer. And she didn't want to be underdressed if he took her to one of the fancier restaurants around. She's in a real dilemma, and he's making jokes about it. She loves him and how he teases her, but she just wants a straight answer from him.
"So am I," he replied with a smirk, turning the water on in the shower, waiting for the water to warm up. "I promise whatever you decide to wear, you're going to look stunning," he stated with a smile, stepping out of the bathroom removing his shirt.
"I am not even going to humor that statement, because we know it's true," Zoe smirked, loving to hear Wade's laugh. "I just need to know if it's a jean and shirt or a dress type event," she sighed, looking at him, her eyes raking over his body. He may be 50, but he's still in shape, and she does love his body, sometimes more than his mind when he's getting on her last nerve.
"Hip hugging jeans or a curvy dress showing off your legs, either one is fine in my book," he told her, dropping his jeans to toss them into the dirty clothes. "But since you need to know, it's not a fancy place, but you will want to wear jeans, or those yoga pants you love to wear around the house, the ones that make your butt look cute," he winked, walking back into the bathroom to get in the shower, hoping his wife is ready to go by the time he's done.
Sighing Zoe took a look through her clothes one more time to see what would speak out to her, but once again nothing spoke to her. Believing what her husband told her, she grabbed a pair of black jeans, and a silk peach-colored long sleeve shirt, pairing a simple pair of wedges with the outfit. She was just finishing up her makeup when Wade exited the bathroom in jeans and a white tee shirt.
"I hope this works, because I have no idea what else to wear," she told him, standing up, to gather her stuff in her purse, not wanting to forget anything.
"It's perfect," he said, catching her hand. "You look perfect, beautiful and stunning," he said, lightly kissing her. He didn't want to be in trouble for smearing her red lipstick, he'd never hear the end of it.
Wade realized that it would never be easy to get his wife out of the house on time. They had gone over everything with Will multiple times. He knows what he can and can't be doing when left home by himself. At 15 Will knows what he shouldn't be doing. And they trust him to spend the night elsewhere. Aurora spending the night with AB and Lavon. Not only had they gone over what he couldn't do, but Zoe made a list of the very things they told him he couldn't and could do. He has yet to outright disobey what they tell him. He's a teen so talking back and acting out happened, he had done the same thing, even if it was for different reasons growing up.
"He's not going to start the house on fire," Wade said, wanting his wife to relax in the seat next to him. She had remained quiet and in her head as they drove. He had tried to make her talk, but all of his conversations had been one-sided.
"We can't be sure of that," Zoe sighed. "We've never left him alone for a night before, what if," she sighed, letting her thoughts trail off, because she doesn't want to imagine the things that could go wrong before they return home tomorrow afternoon.
"We have a whole town that is going to watch out for him. He will be okay, and he has a couple friends to help him pass the time and their parents will check in from time to time to make sure everything is okay. One of those parents happens to be your very best friend. Do you really think Lemon is going to let anything happen?" Wade asked, using his mirrors to change lanes, now that they were out of Bluebell and headed through downtown Fairhope.
"Well no," Zoe sighed, knowing that Lemon wouldn't allow Will to get away with anything, even though he isn't at her house. "I won't worry about Will or Aurora," she promised her husband. It's not easy to let your worry for your kids go, that's something she learned early on in parenthood, but she would do her best.
"I know as well as you do that you can't just stop worrying about them, Zo. You'll always worry about them, I am just asking that maybe we worry a little less," he commented. Because he too knows how hard it is to keep the worry for your kids from sending him down a dark tunnel, and he's trying everything that he can to keep that from happening.
"I am going to try," she promised her husband. "Now what do you have planned for the night?" She asked. Wade had taken the pleasure of packing her bags, so she doesn't even know what he packed for her or what he has planned for them.
Wade smirked, but remained quiet on what he had planned. He figured when making plans for his wife's birthday that it was time to make some amends when it came to their honeymoon, and see what could be done about their little trip to a cabin, just this time, it wasn't some strangers cabin in the woods, this time it's Jesse's cabin and everything is in working order. He didn't intend for it all to be one big surprise, he had every intention of telling her what he planned for her birthday weekend. Turns out he still likes watching her get frustrated at not knowing what he is up to, which isn't very often these days.
"You guys I don't know about this," Will sighed, looking over at his two friends. "If we get caught, we'll all be in trouble," he stated. "None of our parents are going to like this," he tried, seeing on his friends faces that he hadn't succeeded in convincing them not to go through with this plan, he stupidly suggested. He now wishes he would have kept his mouth shut, and they kept playing video games all night like they had planned on doing.
"When are we going to get a chance like this again?" Nick asked with a smirk, going back to texting everyone he could to inform them of what was going down.
"It's hard to say," Will sighed. He didn't want to go against what his parents told him, but he also didn't want to seem uncool to his friends. He was really stuck in a horrible place to be.
"You have to live a little, Will," Albert stated, sending a round of texts off to a few people as well. "How many people can say they got to throw a party in Bluebell? Think of all the people when you get to college that threw house parties, and you'll get to be one," his friend stated, clapping him on the back.
"As long as things don't get out of hand and break things," he sighed, caving in.
"It's just a few friends from school. We can't go all out, it's Bluebell and the deputy sheriff will be here to not only end the party but call your parents," Nick commented.
Will knew that would be the case and the last thing he needs other than his parents to find out about a party he throws at their house, is for the deputy sheriff Joe to call his parents, that will only make things worse.
"Okay we can do this," Will told his friends. "But upstairs is off limits," he said, he wouldn't risk the bedrooms up there, knowing what a lot of his classmates could and would get up to doing.
Will remained paranoid about the party until friends started to show up. With the music turnt up, he was letting loose and having fun. After his break-up with Stella months ago, he found himself having a crush on one of his friends, Nina. She had been there to make him laugh and cheer him up. Turns out being close to a friend for the part of 10 years doesn't help keep a friendship. He thought he had made amends with Brady after getting into a fight with him, but it didn't play out that way and Brady started to date Stella. Will doesn't care about that. He's not going to stop people from having fun, best friend or ex-girlfriend.
It wasn't until he was broken out of the small bubble he shared with Nina, kisses being swapped with each other, when he heard something break. Giving Nina an apologetic smile he went in search of what broke. He frowned, when he saw that not only was it a vase but a ceramic plate that his aunt Crickett had made and given to his parents for Christmas before he was even born. He wasn't sure what he was going to do about that. It's not like he could fix it. He'd have to come up with some sort of lie, to get out of the mess he suddenly found himself in.
Not knowing what else to do, he quickly cleaned up the mess, and went in search of Nina, he couldn't do anything about it now, and he wasn't going to let it ruin the fun that he is having. He'd worry and fret over everything tomorrow morning before his parents returned home.
The wee hours of the morning saw his house clear out and those that didn't leave had found a place to crash in the living room for the night. He walked through the mess, kicking a plastic cup as he made his way to his room, to call it a night. In his haste to get to bed and passing out, he had forgotten to set an alarm clock, to wake up hours before his parents returned, to have the house cleaned, not wanting them to find out about the party he had thrown.
"William Hayes Kinsella!" Wade yelled, from his spot in the living room, Zoe working on getting the rest of the teens up and out of the house.
Turns out Will should have been worried about his parents reactions. He's never seen his dad so mad before. His mom remained calm, but he could see that she wasn't happy with him either. He remained quiet not wanting to add onto his punishment.
