Chapter 86 – Eye Color

The Doctor and Genie sat at the piano as she played for a long while. She also played her violin for him. He beamed in pride at her. "That's extraordinary. What other instruments would you like to try, Genie?"

She laughed as she said, "The drums!"

He laughed and shook his head. "I'm not saying no. I'm just going to say, not now. Let us get our house built and I'll get you some drums. I'd like to try those myself! Alright?"

Genie giggled and continued to play the violin.

Rose, Jake, Jack and Shakes popped into the living room.

Genie handed the Doctor her violin and ran to jump into Rose's arms. The Doctor smiled at them. Rose kissed Genie as Jack put his hands on his hips and said, "What? No kisses for me and Uncle Jake?"

Genie smiled as Jack took her out of Rose's arms and twirled her around the room. The Doctor sat down the violin and came over to greet them. He kissed Rose and looked at her eyes. She noticed and looked funny at him.

"How did it go? Did you wow them?" he asked her.

"I think so. They asked me back." Rose smiled.

Jack smiled and said, "It knocked my socks off! I was amazed! Sounded like you up there talking. It was wild!"

The Doctor smiled and bent down and looked into both of Rose's eyes closely, again. "I'm not surprised. She's amazing!"

She put her hand on his chest and pushed him back. "Okay, what are you on about?"

He looked surprised, "What? What did I do?"

"Did you do something? Why are you looking at my eyes like that?" Rose asked him.

He rubbed his face. "Ugh. It's embarrassing." He said as he looked at eyes again. "I'm still not sure."

She looked at him, "What are you not sure about?"

Jack, Jake and Shakes watched him. He ran his hand through his hair. "Genie asked me what color your eyes are…"

Jack laughed, "And you didn't know!? How do you not know?"

Rose laughed at him.

The Doctor pointed forcefully at Jack, "I bet you don't know either, Jack! Don't even try! You neither, Jake!"

The Doctor quickly spun Rose around and covered her eyes. He quickly kissed her cheek as he held her. Rose laughed, "This is madness! How can you not know this?"

"Don't tell them Rose! We have a great bet here! What are we betting gentlemen?" The Doctor demanded.

Shakes laughed at them. "It's always this. I love this assignment! It's so entertaining!"

The Doctor held Rose close as he kept her eyes covered. "You can get in on this, Shakes. You too, Genie. What color are Rose's eyes. Who knows?"

Genie laughed as Jack held her. "You mean, I can play, too?"

The Doctor nodded his head, "Of course you can, sweetheart. But, don't tell us yet. Let's all figure out what we are betting first."

Rose laughed as he held her. 'I've missed your touch all day. I'm enjoying this!' she told him in his head.

"Oh, me too! Any excuse I can use!" he told her as he kissed her neck causing her to pull her shoulders up and giggle.

Genie laughed and Jack sat her down.

Jake scratched his chin. "So me, you, Genie, Jack and Shakes. What on earth could we bet?"

Rose was still laughing as the Doctor held her around her waist and her face, covering her eyes. "Oh, I have a splendid idea!"

The doorbell rang.

"Ugh! What the hell?" the Doctor complained.

He helped Rose sit on the couch. He took off his silk tie, and tied it around her face covering her eyes. She smiled as he leaned down and kissed her lips quickly. "Sit there, Rose Tyler. We're going to sort this out."

She laughed, "This is madness. It's always madness with you!"

Shakes answered the door and Walker Elliot, the manager of the building, smiled, "Hi there! You've had another delivery!"

The Doctor looked confused, "Another one? We already had shopping and a piano delivered."

Mr. Elliot brought the box in with Shakes and the Doctor's help. They sat it in the floor. The Doctor thanked him as he left the room and shut the door.

Rose, still blindfolded and currently being hugged by Genie, asked, "What is it?"

The Doctor and Jack opened the box. Jake laughed, "Oh, I believe that's our wedding present!"

The Doctor pulled out a karaoke machine. "Oh, you have got to be kidding me!" The Doctor exclaimed.

Rose laughed. "Oh, I love it! Yep! That's what I thought you would say!"

Jake walked over and put his hand on the Doctor's shoulder. "Just for you Sinatra! Now, you can sing to all of us!"

Jack was laughing in disbelief. Genie was standing up and leaning on the back of the sofa, watching everything going on.

"Can I have the box, Daddy?" she asked.

"May I have the box?" he corrected her.

She rolled her eyes, "May I?"

He rubbed his beard and smiled. "Sure Genie." He laughed and shook Jake and Jack's hands, thanking them.

Rose giggled, "So, you want to hear my mad idea?"

The Doctor shook his head, "I worry when you say that, love. You come up with some really mad ideas."

Rose laughed, "All of you guess the color. All losers have to use that karaoke machine and sing tonight!"

The Doctor stepped away from it and shook his head. "Oh, that's mad indeed. I'm not agreeing to that. No way."

Jack clapped his hands and got excited. "Oh, I'm game! Hell, I was going to do that anyway! What do you say, Jake?"

Jake laughed. "Sure. Why not? Doc'?"

The Doctor ran his hand through his hair and looked back at Rose. "Can we pick the song?"

Rose giggled, "Yes."

Jack pointed at the Doctor, "And not the 'Sound of Silence'. It has to be something you sing to! I know your game!"

The Doctor swore in another language. "Then, no. I'm not singing. No way."

Jack looked at Genie. "How about you, Genie? Want to sing?"

She shrugged her shoulders. "I don't think that's a good bet. You were going to do it anyway."

The Doctor put his hands on his hips and looked at her. "What do you think would be fair, Genie?"

She pointed at them. "If I win, Jack has to dance with me again."

Jack nodded, "With pleasure!"

The Doctor complained, "Watch it!"

Genie pointed at Jake, "Jake has to make me ice cream."

Jake nodded, "As long as I can have some, too."

Genie pointed at Shakes, "You have kick the footballs with me and Tony."

Shakes rubbed his hands together. "I love doing that! Alright!"

Genie pointed at The Doctor. "And Daddy has to go swimming with me, Jacob, Tony and Rose."

The Doctor pointed at her. "Deal! I like this. But, Daddy isn't singing. No."

Rose spoke. "And!"

Jack put his hands on his hips and tossed his hands in the air. "And? And what?"

Rose giggled, "For Dad. He would add you all have to take four shots of the Damn Whiskey, Genie excluded. And do fifty push-ups."

Jack pointed at Rose and smiled. "Make it a hundred. I want to see the Doctor sweat!"

The Doctor crossed his arms. "Keep talking, young man. You'd be surprised what I can do."

Rose was laughing at them. "Oh, I love this! Okay. Are we good?"

The Doctor looked back at all of them. "I'm not singing, but I agree to everything else."

The men looked around and shook hands in agreement. Genie laughed at them. "Oh this will be great!"

Jake looked back at Rose. "Wait a minute. Who will be the one who settles this?"

Rose laughed, "We'll call mum. She will tell you."

"Fair!" Jack determined. "Okay. Everyone, give me your guesses."

Jake tossed his hands up, "Blue. I have no idea."

Jack shrugged his shoulders, "Grey."

The Doctor tossed his hands up, "That's not an eye color they have yet! That won't be around for…. 400 more years!"

Rose looked confused behind her blindfold. "I'm going to want that statement explained later."

The Doctor rubbed his beard. "Quite right, dear! I guess green. I think that's what it is. Shakes?"

Shakes crossed his arms. "Brown. I'm sure!"

The Doctor pointed at Genie. "Sara Gene, your guess?"

"It's not a guess, Daddy. I know! They are hazel!" Genie told him.

"Hazel? We need to work on your colors, Little One. That's not even a color." He shook his head at her.

"Sorry, Daddy. It is. That's what they are! Ask Gran."

He picked up phone and rang Jackie. "Phhh…. hazel."

Jack looked confused, "Hazel. Is that what she said?"

Shakes shook his head, "That's not a color, Genie."

Rose was laughing. "You lot are so funny. This is brilliant. I love this!"

Jackie answered the phone. The Doctor put her on speaker so everyone could hear her. He ran his hand through his hair. "Jackie. This is The Doctor. I need you to settle a bet for us here, do you have a quick moment?"

Jackie spoke, "Of course. What madness are you up to now?"

"Something tame, I assure you. Just a friendly bet with the guys and my daughter. What color are Rose's eyes?"

Jackie laughed, "You don't know that? How do you not know that?"

He pulled his hair. "Nevermind that. What color are they?"

Jackie was laughing. "Pete. What color are Rose's eyes? Do you remember?"

Pete's voice came across the phone. "They are hazel. Like mine!"

Jackie laughed, "Right! Hazel, Doctor."

All of the men groaned.

The Doctor was confused, "Hazel? That's a color? What?" He knelt down in front of Rose and took off the blindfold. He looked at both of her eyes again.

Rose was laughing. Jackie explained. "It's what it's called when they are green with brown around the outside."

The Doctor looked at Shakes. "Damn. We were so close! She's right!"

Shakes pointed at them. "One day, I'm going to win a bet with this lot."

Genie was dancing around the room. "Awesome! Hazel eyes!"

Jack crossed his arms. "I've never heard of that before. Why not?"

The Doctor shook his head. "It must be something unique to this time I imagine. Eye color is determined by 16 different genes passed on by the parents. Jackie Tyler has to have brown eyes. That would be my bet."

Jackie laughed on the phone. "I do! Good guess."

Rose looked surprised, "How do you know that?"

He refocused his eyes and looked at Rose and smiled. "55% of everyone in this time has brown eyes. They are very common. Whereas blue eyes are very uncommon. Only 8% of people living now have them."

Jackie laughed, "I didn't know that. Why are they so uncommon?"

Jack asked, "The Pyramid Theory?"

The Doctor nodded his head as he stood up and ran his hand through his hair.

Pete asked, "Well, who won?"

Genie exclaimed, "I did, Grandfather! I get to go swimming with Daddy! Get ice cream! And get to dance with Jack, again!"

They all laughed.

The Doctor thanked Jackie and ended the phone call. He sat down next to Rose on the sofa.

"I should have believed, Genie. She was so sure. Hazel. How strange." The Doctor complained.

"What is the Pyramid Theory?" Rose asked him as he put his arm around her.

He looked back at her and considered. "Ummm…. Well. No one knows if it's true or not, but there is a scientist in about …. 83 years, who comes up with an idea about people with blue eyes are descendants from the slaves who built the pyramids in Egypt. Lots of people have said this, but he claimed he was able to prove it. It's wild. I don't even want to get into it. Damn, it. Hazel. Who has ever heard of that?" he grumbled.

Rose shook her head at him. "I'm going to change. You lot work this out."

Genie pointed at Jake. "Ice cream!"
