Day 90: Moonday the 17th, Kuthona, 4707
I woke up to the sobering realization of what everything was. Now I wasn't just fighting for me, or for Savah. I was actually fighting for a future. And that is a really sobering realization. I started out the day by making a healthy breakfast for both myself and Savah. I even brought her breakfast in bed. Savah was happy to have it and said that she would be getting up shortly to start dealing with the store. I told her that Vaeren was here for that, and that she should do some reading from one of the books I had in my storage drive. I pulled it up on the tablet and gave it to her. I resolved to get print copies for her and for Hannah, as that was who she went to go see to confirm when I was telling the story at the Rusty Dragon yesterday.
I went to check on Veronica and Igor, and they were steadily working on the room, making it even better suited to work in than before. I thanked them for their progress and asked them to keep at it. I realized that the days were steadily counting down to Crystalhue, and that I needed to get the gifts done that I had intended to get done for the ceremony. I got out the individual bound books and started copying from the original that I had made, and ensured that the books were as well done as possible. When it was all said and done, there would be eight matching copies of books that should have useful bits of information for the first few months and years of the relationships.
I stopped after four hours of copying to make lunch for myself and Savah. Savah thanked me for the food and said that the book was very interesting. She told me that she was half way through it, but that she would want to read it again later. I told her that I was already planning on making print copies for both her and Hannah. She said that this was a good idea, and that this was a good gift for Hannah. I thanked her for her insight and told her that I needed to get back to work on the Crystalhue ceremony gifts. Savah wished me well and I went back to the workshop.
Another four hours had passed of putting one page onto another. When it was all said and done, I had all of four books completed, and a fifth book was three quarters of the way done. I really couldn't focus on it anymore at that point, so I put away my work and went upstairs to check on Savah. Savah reminded me that it was Farmer's Market day in the Market square, and we needed to check in with Sir Jasper anyway. I thanked Savah for her remembering this and asked if she would like to visit the market, to help make decisions for restocking the pantry. Savah agreed and we took one bike and one of the carts with us.
When we got to the Farmer's Market, a lot of the farmers had sold out of what they had, but there was more than enough for us to get what we were looking for. We contracted for over four hundred pounds of food items, from beans and potatoes to flour and wheat berries. We even got in a good supply of coffee and tea. We stashed a good amount of oranges and limes that must have come in on a ship, or been part of someone's stash. I was glad for it though. No need to deal with scurvy in a time like this. We also got some contracts out for the delivery of a dozen hens, a cow, a pair of goats and a pig. The farmers would deliver the chickens and goats to our house (where I would have to put in a coop for the chickens and a pen for the goats), and the cow and the pig would both be delivered to the Sandpoint Meat Market for slaughtering. We would be told when they were butchered and hung, and drop by to pick them up.
We headed back with a large supply of goods for our larder, and I conjured up three unseen servants to help me carry everything. Putting in a dumbwaiter would be the next modification to the house, and it was a lucky thing that the garage was somewhat underneath the pantry, as we could have it lift up there directly. After a while of managing to move everything up and get it set up on the correct shelves, I put away the cart for the bike. We got situated back in the house again and I asked Savah who all knew. Savah told me that only her, me, and Hannah knew for sure, but that she was fairly certain that Bethana and Risa had guesses about it. I asked her if she wanted to keep it secret, and she said that it didn't matter to her, but that with it being this close to the ceremony, that it would just get swept under the preparations.
I fixed us up some decent dinner, and included Vaeren, Oren, Arika, Dame Rebekah, and Chelger in on the feast. Part of it was using up the last of the old provisions. Part of it was a desire to have the people who I figured would be prominent in our lives close, and Dame Rebekah and Chelger were here from working with Arika and Oren all day. Still, all in all, it was a good meal and the end of a good day.
