My Muggle Girlfriend 94 - Strings

Night downed before George realized. For hours, he unloaded all the shelves and reorganized the displays. According to the balance of the previous weeks and the upcoming events, some products gained the spotlight, while others went to the lower shelves, at children's eye level. He took notes of a few changes in the decoration he was going to suggest to Verity, Ron, and Kagome, hoping to get some suggestions too.

George went upstairs to clean up before heading home. The familiar environment welcomed him. It might have been only a few days since he moved out, however, the place brought him a sense of nostalgia.

Taking a few short steps to the side, he entered the washroom and headed to the sink. George washed his hands and looked up to meet his reflection. His eyes widened.

On his cheeks, a wet trail on the dirt. With his right hand, he reached his face. It was still wet. That's when he realized there were still tears coming from his eyes. He was unaware of when the crying started, just that he couldn't stop it.

George inhaled deeply, held his breath for a few seconds then slowly released the air. He repeated the steps several times, putting into action some meditation techniques Kagome taught him. He lowered until his forehead touched the porcelain, his body squatting down. He held that position until his legs gave up and he sat on the floor, his eyes distant and lost.

"You did a good job downstairs," said Kagome. George turned to face his wife, wondering when she got there. As if reading his mind, she answered, "I just got here." She sat down by his side. Kagome put her hand over his and intertwined their fingers. "I'm sorry."

Surprised, George frowned and made a quick mental recap of the day. "What for?"

Kagome tightened her grip on his hand as she looked away. He buried his nose on her hair, inhaling the vanilla scent of her favorite shampoo. Some of the weight on his shoulders faded.

"I expressed myself badly and it took me a long time to realize how much it affected you." Kagome shifted her position until she was facing him. She raised their joined hands and placed a kiss on his fingers. "Fred didn't leave because he felt out of place. He left because he had nothing holding him here anymore. He knew his family would be fine and that you moved on. He had no strings attaching him to his world, no unfinished business."

"It's impossible to hold a soul to this realm," she continues, "when they don't have any attachments left. Fred was happy, happier than he could have ever been, and ready to move on. He let himself go. It's time for you to do the same."

Ending coming soon!

Sorry for the long wait!
