A.N. — I do tend to chase humor with angst, so here is me following form. Really, when you uproot your family because your daughter was attacked, the resulting drabble is not gonna be happy. But then, nobody in this family has a nice backstory.
95. Kendra Dumbledore
Every time Ariana's magic lashed out to attack her, Kendra viewed it as penance for not being there to protect her daughter. She knew Ariana was blameless; there was no set trigger for her magic unconsciously bubbling over. But eventually, Kendra couldn't justify endangering her sons as well. She deserved Ariana's wrath; Aberforth and Albus did not.
So Ariana was moved to the cellar, sequestered in darkness from any external stimuli. Kendra viewed Ariana like the wine she aged beside. She wondered if the next time she descended the steps would be the time Ariana's cork finally decided to blow.
