Episode 96: Ambush

It was afternoon, Ace, Tech and Lexi were in the living room, ready to go deliver the fuel cells. "It would be safer if we all go there." Rev said, he was just sitting over his couch turned bed.

"Nope." Duck replied, he was napping again.

"We´ll be fine, Rev. It will be a quick mission." Ace responded.

Duck chuckled. "You even call that a 'mission'."

The three heroes left in the jet. Tech piloted as always while Ace and Lexi sat down in the backside. "Just as in Acmetropolis." Lexi let out a sigh. "Seems like the life of a hero has no schedule, indeed." She looked at her boyfriend, with a smirk of acceptance and duty.

"It´s the life we decided to have, after all." Ace replied. "What would be of us now if that meteor hadn´t hit the city?"

Lexi chuckled. "I probably would´ve struggled with finding a career of my liking. The only thing in my head back then were my dance moves."

"Maybe I would´ve become an actor, I mean I was technically one already." Ace replied.

"Are you serious? I don´t see you acting, to be honest." Lexi chuckled.

"Who knows? Maybe I could´ve been bigger than Tom Le Pew." Ace said jokingly

Lexi let out a brief chuckle. "Not in a million years." She took his hand, glaring at him with affectionate eyes. "Yet, I think you´re way more handsome."

"You think?" Ace raised an eyebrow?"

"Yeah, I´m still not sure." Lexi replied with a chuckle.

The jet was arriving at the monument. Lydia was on her stomach, over the rooftop of a tall building, following the jet with the scope of her sniper rifle. "They´re here."

"Great. Make a distraction." Alfons replied, he was hiding behind the Helix monument along with Landon, the monument was a tall, polygonal spring shaped statue, white colored, placed over a concrete platform. "We´ll take care of the rest."

"How we´ll take back the cells, boss?" Landon asked.

"We won´t." Alfons looked at him with a straight face. "Our only target here is the lady."

The jet landed in front of the monument. Ace and Lexi carried the box with the fuel cells and then they exited the vehicle along with Tech, heading towards the truck that was parked across the street, a gray suited bear was waiting there, along with two canine bodyguards.

"Good afternoon, gentlemen." Tech greeted.

Lydia aimed at the bear´s head, pulling the trigger as soon as she got a clean shot.

"Mr. Doxon!" One of the bodyguards exclaimed while kneeling down next to his now dead boss, looking around just as his partner. Both got shot right on the head afterwards.

Tech rushed towards the bear and the bodyguards, growling with frustration while seeing the big bleeding holes on their foreheads, knowing there was nothing more to do. Alfons got behind him all of a sudden, punching him strongly, sending him to the monument. Tech smashed into the monument and fell over the ground, unconscious. Ace and Lexi rushed towards Alfons, readying their respective powers.

Uthman had been hiding behind a huge trash container, he came out of hiding and shot Ace with the water jet, piercing his chest.

"Gah!" Ace fell down.

"Ace!" Lexi cried out his name, kneeling down next to him.

"R..." Ace coughed blood. "Run." He groaned. "Lexi..."

Landon ran towards Lexi and shot a sonic wave at her, hitting her strongly and making her fall unconscious. "Done!" Landon exclaimed while carrying Lexi in his arms.

"Lydia! Come for us, now!" Alfons said through his comm and rushed towards an alleyway, followed by Landon and Uthman.

After several minutes, Tech woke up, rubbing his head while groaning and gasping, getting onto his feet with struggle. "No." He said with great worry when seeing Ace laying over the ground. He ran towards him and began to get very anxious by seeing the great amount of blood that Ace was losing, not to mention the huge hole in his chest. He carried him and started to look around with desperation. "Lexi!" Tech exclaimed. "Lexi!" He hurried towards the jet, entering and laying Ace down. He dragged a huge, rugged box that was in a corner. "No." Tech said while crying, opening the box and taking out some equipment and a couple of devices from there, kneeling down next to Ace.

Tech activated his comm. "Rev." He said with a deeply broken voice. "Rev!"

"What?! What happened?!" Rev replied from the other side.

Tech sobbed. "Come here, please. Now, now!"

"Okay! Okay I´m on my way!" Rev responded.

Tech took a scalpel, holding it while looking at Ace´s bleeding chest, hearing his moribund and faint breathing. He unzipped the upper part of Ace´s bodysuit, revealing his torso. Tech took a deep breath then exhaled slowly. His hand trembled and his forehead was sweaty, tears kept running across his face as he sobbed continuously. Tech brought the scalpel to his chest and after a moment of hesitation, he started to cut.

Meanwhile, Alfons and company were in their ship. Lexi was laying down over the floor while Alfons injected her in the arm. "That will keep her neutralized." Alfons said then straightened.

"What will we do with her?" Uthman asked.

Alfons looked at Uthman with a sinister look. "Isn´t it obvious?" He walked towards him. "We´ll make those heroes wish they never messed with us." Alfons glanced at Lexi, smirking. "We could start with something light. Some bone breaking to get the fun started."

In the apartment, Duck and Slam were at the living room, with great worry just as Susan. Slam let out a growl, saying that Tech sounded very worried in Rev´s comm.

"They´ll be fine." Duck said without much conviction.

"Hand me the flexible cord." Tech asked Rev. Rev gave Tech the device he asked him for, Tech then started to sew it into Ace´s exposed heart tissue. He connected the ends of the cord to a tiny, disc shaped device, which he carefully sticked on the right ventricle. The disc beeped and a small green led on it turned on. Tech sighed with relief. "We did it." He chuckled with tears of joy. "Sew him back, Rev."

Rev sewed Ace with his super speed, then looked at Tech with a smirk. "You saved his life."

"It´s my job." Tech replied while covering Ace´s torso with healing gauze. Rev cleaned the blood on the floor. Ace was starting to breathe normally, making Tech smirk, who got onto his feet and went to the cockpit. He sat down on the pilot seat and turned on the engines. Tech finally took off.

Rev went to the cockpit. "Where´s Lexi?"

Tech sighed. "They got her."

Rev gasped. "What?! What are we gonna do?!"

Tech shook his head. "We´ll figure out. As soon as we arrive at Susan´s, we´ll make up a rescue plan." He looked at Rev over his shoulder. "Locate her, Rev."

"Sure." Rev went back to backside of the jet and sat down over the floor, closing his eyes while breathing slowly.

At the apartment, the living room was silent and with a sense of great worry. As soon as Tech and Rev entered the place, Duck, Slam, Susan and her parents stood up from the couches and approached them. "What happened?" Duck inquired worriedly when seeing Ace laying in Tech´s arms.

"An ambush." Tech replied while heading to the visits room. "They hurt him badly."

"Where´s Lexi?" Susan asked.

Tech stood silent until they arrived at the room. He gently laid Ace over the bed. He turned and looked at Susan with a straight face. "They took her."

Duck gasped. "What the hell?! How do you know?!"

"Well she´s not here, is she?!" Tech replied with anger and frustration. He grunted and covered his face, rubbing his eyes while lowering his head. "Sorry." His voice was broken. After taking a couple of deep breaths, he looked back at Duck. "Rev located her, okay?

"Where?! Where is she?!" Duck exclaimed with desperation.

"Hey." Tech approached him and placed a hand on his shoulder. "I got a plan. You and Rev will head there as stealthily as possible. Emphasis on 'stealthily'." He gave him a look of warning.

"I can be stealthy." Duck replied.

"Yeah, sure." Tech glanced at Rev.

Slam growled, stating he wanted to go rescue Lexi as well.

"No, big guy." Tech said with a straight tone. "The more we go, the greater the risk."

"No!" Rev yelled all of a sudden.

Everyone in the room got frightened by his unexpected yell. "What is it?!" Tech asked.

Rev was hyperventilating, Duck approached him rapidly. "What´s going on, man?!"

"They´re torturing her!" Rev responded with great worry.

"Go! Now!" Tech commanded.
