Book I – The Third

Interlude

100. Brothers' Management - part 3

"It still hurts like a bitch." Harry complained while I was driving. We were on our way to meet like a hundred vampires in Portland. Alice's new purple Ferrari was ahead of us. Our group consisted of four cars. The leading vehicles belonged to the Cullens, all of the family except for Esme and Rosalie were driving south with us.

I was on the third vehicle with my twin brother and Scarlett. She had fallen asleep when we passed the city of Longview.

"You shouldn't have hit him."

Harry looked at me, surprised. Usually, I wouldn't say something like that.

"Really? Are you going to lecture me for what I did? You of all people..."

Okay, so I was the last person on the planet entitled to give my brother a lecture for what happened that morning but someone should tell him that he was an idiot.

"You overreacted, Harry. Nothing happened and you got what you wanted. Sarah is going to leave La Push and join the Hansen girl at the Makah Reservation and Isaac is in La Push right now."

"He's getting stronger," Harry said as if I hadn't spoken those last words. "He had just gotten out of a fight with EJ and he still managed to hit me full force. I'm older, bigger, and stronger than him and he still knocked me out for a few seconds."

Harry was right. Isaac was getting stronger much faster than we ever did. Normally a wolf would have to wait up to seven months to one year until he reached the strength and power that our younger brother now possessed. And he had only phased about three months ago. Although he was a wolf like us, there were many things different about Isaac, we just never really discussed it.

"He's a Black and already an alpha. What were you expecting?"

My brother shrugged and I saw him looking through the mirror to Scarlett's sleeping form in the back seat. The problem was that Harry only saw Season.

"She told me Season's still in there somewhere," Harry said now looking at the road ahead of us. "She wants to name our kid Winter."

"Really? Winter?" I smirked. "Winter Black... it sounds like the name of a motion picture."

"I don't dislike it... not completely." He confessed.

"Harry, I know that this has been hard for you but you can't keep acting like... me," I told him. "And this is not a lecture. It's just a piece of advice."

Harry didn't say a word after that. I knew that he wasn't proud of what he had done. Harry had never been a violent person, on the contrary, he was the kind of person who always tried talking before jumping into an argument or a fight.

But ever since Tom Harding's attack, he was close to exploding. It reminded me of myself a few weeks ago when I was told that I couldn't be with Rhea until the wedding. Back then, Harry supported me so I wanted to do the same for him now, but he wasn't making my job easy.

And that morning things had just gotten from bad to worse and Harry snapped. Truth be told, Harry hadn't been the only one to blame for that. Sarah had also played an important role in the events. She had fooled Scarlett into drinking with her on the previous night. She had used an old and empty bottle of vodka and filled it with a non-alchoolic drink and then told Scarlett that she could drink all she wanted because the baby she was expecting was a wolf and the alcohol wouldn't affect him.

Scarlett believed in her and they had some fun playing stupid games in Sarah's bedroom. Then for some reason, Scarlett went to Isaac's room and spent the night there. Nothing had happened because Isaac had spent the night out on patrol. Since it was EJ's night off, my brother had volunteered to make a double shift.

Upon seeing Scarlett stressing out that morning, Harry had had a major argument with Sarah. He had accused her of being immature and told her she should leave Scarlett alone and go back to the Makah Reservation. If mom and I hadn't intervened, Sarah would have clawed Harry's eyes out, then killed him and hid his body in the woods.

We had all agreed that despite no harm had come to Harry's baby, Sarah had been careless and irresponsible, so everyone agreed that for the time being, she should go back to Dana Hansen's house by the end of the day.

Then later in the afternoon, Isaac had returned home bruised and bleeding. Apparently, he had run into EJ and things got rough between them. Scarlett tried to help him, cleaning and tending his wounds and that's when Harry walked in and got jealous.

There was a nasty argument, harsh words were said between them, and then they charged against each other. The kitchen was partially destroyed. It took four wolves to separate them. Since it was obvious that both my brothers would not be able to work together, dad had to rearrange tonight's plan so he ordered Isaac to stay at La Push.

I was a bit worried because Isaac was a ticking bomb. I just hoped his pack brothers could give him some support and prevent him to attack EJ again.

"Do you think I should... apologize?" Harry finally asked after a long silence.

"Yes. Definitely."

"I've been acting like a douchebag, haven't I?"

"Yep. I mean... this is not Isaac's fault and he's not in a good place either. You've been through a lot but so has he."

"I know. It's just that when I saw them so close to each other, my wolf reacted. I saw red."

"Look, we need to have our heads on the game. Right now we have to focus on solving this mess... and then we'll go back home and you'll sort things out with Isaac, okay?"

Harry nodded.

"We picked Liam if it's a boy. Olivia if it's a girl." I announced to change the topic.

"When did you agree on that?"

"This morning."

"I thought you were not allowed to be with Rhea until the wedding."

"That's why we decided to speed up things a bit... after that fiasco, we figured we didn't need such a big wedding. Rhea's my mate and she's carrying my baby, we are already connected, we don't need to get married in front of the whole fucking Reservation. Her family can go to hell. So this morning I took her to that small chapel on 101 and father Tim pronounced us man and wife. He also gave us a certificate, a bottle of champagne, and a key to one of the rooms in the back of the church."

"That was incredibly thoughtful of him. So... what about father Harold? Wasn't he the priest there?"

"He quit after you beat him to a pulp which was a smart thing to do because I really like Father Tim much better." l laughed. Harry rolled his eyes. He didn't like to remember that episode.

"You know mom is going to kill you, right?"

"I guess so... by then she'll have to kill us both because you also married Season in secret."

"Yeah, but she likes Season a lot more than she likes Rhea."

"Well, we can't always have what we want."

I couldn't believe we had actually listened to those stupid vampires' plans. I had heard my fair share of stupid and crazy ideas, many of them coming from my own twin brother, but this had to be the most idiotic thing I had ever heard in my life.

Vlad and his recently formed coven wanted to revive the old days. They wanted the whole world to know of their existence and accept that they were the superior species. And how were they thinking about doing that? Easy: first they were going to get rid of the Volturi, something they were pretty close to achieving since the Italians were now confined to a Fort in an unknown location, and the wives of the two remaining Elders had been taken hostages.

The Volturi were disbanding slowly. Marcus had left the Coven after realizing his brother-in-law had most likely killed his wife, and many other loyal vampires were abandoning the Volturi too, including Scarlett who was currently living inside Season's body because my wife's body was being used by Didyme.

Once the Romanians had a free pass to recover the power from the Volturi, they were going to go public. And that's when the shit was going to hit the fan. Long gone were the times when humans believed that vampires, werewolves, and witches existed. People were not ready for this but Vlad and Stefan wanted more than revenge, they wanted to abandon the shadows for good.

The Cullens were against it, of course. They knew the dangers of a world dominated by vampires. There would be wars for land and food. However, Vlad had a plan. Or he thought he had a plan. In reality that was not a plan, it was a dream that would end badly for everyone involved in it.

"Is he serious about this?" I heard my father asking Edward.

"He is."

"Dude, that's just crazy." Uncle Paul commented voicing what everyone thought.

"What are we going to do?" I asked and the question lingered in the air for a long time.

"We're going back home." My father replied as we exited the huge mansion in Portland where we had met the Romanians. "We made a deal with them, and we'll follow that deal because it's the only way we can be safe."

"For now," I said. "We can't trust them. What if they break the agreement?"

"They won't. Not now. They have Season's power thanks to you. They know if they break the deal, they'll have a pack of wolves ready to destroy them. They will honor this agreement." Edward said.

The agreement we had made with the Romanians was practically the same we had made with the Volturi years ago. No incursions on our lands should be made by any vampire either from their Coven or any of their allies. If that ever happened we could kill the intruder and we would have the right to summon the vampire Elders based in the US and ask for compensation, whatever that meant.

"You know what's going to happen, don't you?" William asked. His question was directed to the Cullens because all the wolves present knew what Vlad's plan meant. "Maybe not now, or even in five years, but one day everything is going to change."

"Of course we know," Carlisle said. None of the Cullens was dumb enough to believe that Vlad would be able to maintain peace amongst vampires once their population started to increase and their main feeding resource started to diminish. "We tried to warn Vlad but he's deaf and blind. He truly believes that humans need to know about us and that there's nothing wrong about co-existing."

"Let's recap Dracula's plan..." Uncle Paul said. "I think I need to hear it again just to make sure it's really as stupid as we all think it is."

"He plans on dividing the world into six areas each one controlled by two vampire Elders who will allow groups of other vampires to occupy territories in those areas as long as they prove to be loyal to them." Edward recited Vlad's plan for the second time that evening and once again we were all in silence for about five minutes.

"Maria has already pledged loyalty to them when we were at the Forum. Her group is one of the largest... A large group needs a large territory, and that's what she wants because a large territory means more food." Jasper explained.

"You mean, more humans to kill and feed," I corrected and Jasper nodded.

Nomad vampires would soon be a rarity. Not having to hide their existence, vampires would start forming groups, families, armies. Vlad was counting on the strength of the Elders to make sure things wouldn't turn into chaos but even though all the Elders were excellent warriors, they would not be enough to stop large groups from emerging. Unless they too created armies ready to suppress all acts of treason.

"That's exactly what they're going to do. Why do you think they offered us territory of our choosing?" Edward asked after reading my thoughts. I shrugged. "They want us in their army, maybe the Denali Coven as well. They know Kate has a gift and the others have battle skills. They'll try to recruit us soon."

It made sense. Vlad was aware of his limitations he just didn't want to admit that his only way out was to copy the Volturi. Once upon a time, warlords happened to have the loyalty of their men by exchanging oaths and vows but today words didn't mean a thing. If they wanted to remain in power they would need a strong and powerful army. Vampires with offensive abilities would be greatly valued.

"Vlad believes he has time to build this great army." Edward kept going. "Because in the beginning, everyone will follow his orders. Vampires will be so overwhelmed by the sense of freedom that they will cherish Vlad and the others as leaders but that won't last. At first, it will be easy to control the vampire community but that control will be temporary."

"Is that thing about the blood banks for real?"

"I don't know, Paul," Edward answered. "He does believe he can convince his allies to stop killing humans and start feeding on blood from hospitals and clinics. Many of us already do that but we all know that sooner or later vampires will miss the thrill, the rush, and the adrenaline of a good chase. Besides, blood banks need donors, and if the vampire number increases..."

"Blood from the banks will run out. The only solution will be to hunt again." I completed Edward's sentence.

"There's one thing that Vlad has failed to do though." Alice announced and we all looked at her expectantly. "He doesn't know how humans will react."

"And you do?"

"Not yet, but I will," Alice stated confidently. "Now let's go. We've got work to do."

The Cullens stayed behind in Portland. They wanted to speak privately with Jean-Piérre, who was the Romanians' new ally. We headed back home. The Council was summoned, they needed to know what was going on.

In the meantime, I was having doubts about allowing Scarlett to go with Vlad. Not that we had an option though.

"You did the right thing," William said, guessing what was plaguing my mind.

"Did I?" I wondered. "Would you've let Rhea go with these vampires?"

"Scarlett isn't Season or Rhea."

"She's in Season's body. She's carrying my son. And I let her go. I promised I would never allow this to happen again."

During the Forum that had happened in Jean-Piérre's property less than an hour ago, Vlad had convinced two of his major groups of allies that they still had the upper hand in the upcoming battle against the Italians. Not only they still had Sulpicia and Athenodora hostages, but they also had Season. Then, at the end of the meeting, Vlad announced that only a few hours ago he had received the confirmation that a group of Volturi had been captured near Rome.

They were the vampires who had disbanded the coven when Aro and the others took refuge in the Armadillo Fort. The ones who had stayed behind and who were now trying to survive. Many of those vampires had powers that would be useful to the Romanians so Vlad had decided to spare them and give them the chance to join his coven. The ones who'd refuse would be stripped of their powers and for that he needed Season.

"Look... There were close to a hundred vamps in that house and you heard Edward, she had already decided to go without our consent. She knew if we opposed to Vlad's request, we would all be dead by now."

"She's alone with them right now." I felt myself shaking. My wolf was coming to the surface.

"Scarlett knows those vampires. She knows what to do to defend herself."

"She's human now. And alone." I repeated. I had tried to convince them to take me with them but Vlad said that my presence would be a liability because his allies didn't trust werewolves. Especially after what had happened at Val Rosandra. He also promised to return Season safe and untouched in a couple of days.

"Actually, she's not alone." William and I turned around and saw our cousin EJ walking inside our backyard. He was still putting his shorts on. "I've been fucking howling for the last five minutes, assholes!"

"We were distracted," William said.

"No shit!"

"What the hell did you mean she's not alone?" I asked.

"Your stupid brother left Jay in command of the pack and followed you to Portland. He gave us an alpha command to stay here and to stay quiet."

"What?" William and I both said at the same time.

Then EJ threw me Danny's phone. There was a message from Isaac. He was inside the airplane with Vlad, his female companions, and Scarlett. EJ was right. She was not alone. Isaac was there with her. That made me feel a bit better but now I also feared for my younger brother's life.

"He turned off his phone right after sending this stupid message," EJ said. "You better tell your parents to start picking up a fucking coffin."

My cousin took the phone from my hands and then he left into the woods again.

"Shit!" William and I said at the same time again.

Sarah Black

I knew something was wrong as soon as my brothers came home without Scarlett but I only found out the truth when mom, dad, and Grandma Sue came to the house, followed by Sam Uley, the twins, and Isaac's pack.

I was told to sit down between my twin brothers and to remain quiet. My mother was walking back and forth, watching her phone nervously and exchanging glances with my father.

"What the hell is wrong with your children?" Grandma Sue suddenly said. She was speaking to my mother and glaring at me and the twins. "Why can't you just do what your parents ask you to do? Why do you have to always screw up things for them? Can't you see they're tired? This family needs a rest! You all need to behave properly!"

Could this be about my prank with Scarlett last night? I probably pushed the limits but no harm had been done. I hadn't served alcohol to Scarlett and I knew Isaac wasn't spending the night at home when I took Scarlett's sleeping form into his bedroom. I just wanted to have fun.

"What did he tell you?" My father asked Isaac's pack and they all stared at each other. "EJ?"

"He doesn't speak to me ever since that shit happened with Sophia..." He was referring to the imprint. "Danny was patrolling and left his phone at home. I saw it had a message from Isaac and I came to warn you. That's all."

"Jay?" Dad insisted. "What did Isaac tell you?"

"Nothing, sir. He said he had things to do and that I should take care of the pack for a little while. I thought he meant a couple of hours."

Quinn and Danny had nothing more to add to the story so soon they were all excused. Jay never looked at me, not even once and I didn't know if I felt disappointed or relieved.

"You need to relax, Leah." Grandma Sue grabbed my mother's hand and she nodded. "Look, Harry was with these vampires once and he came home safe and sound."

"Harry is a wolf for ten years now. Isaac is... he phased three months ago. These vamps have battle training, Isaac won't stand a chance."

"He's a lot smarter than us." Will put in.

"Shut up, William," Mom warned him. "You've been a bad influence on your siblings."

"Me?" Will got up. He looked hurt by our mother's comments but the little grin on his lips told me otherwise. "So now it's my fault that your precious little genius boarded an airplane and is on his fucking way to Europe with a bunch of vampires?"

"Language, Will." Dad scolded. "Your grandmother is in the room."

"You know what? I think Isaac is brave and I support his decision!"

"Of course you would do that. Because this really sounds like an idea coming from you!"

"You know what was also my idea?" Will asked suddenly. His voice carrying a challenge.

"What?" Mom and dad asked.

"Well as of today Rhea and I are a couple. A married couple. This morning I took her to a chapel and we got married and guess what? It was the best wedding ever! You know why? Because none of you were there to mess everything up!"

Mom snapped. Dad had to hold her by the waist to prevent her from committing murder. Then Harry had to calm things down and Sam just kept on shaking his head. It was actually a pretty funny thing to watch so I just crossed my legs and kept watching comfortably from the couch.

"My sons are morons!" Mom said glaring at the twins.

"Fortunately you have a daughter," I said playfully. Mom rolled her eyes.

"Don't you even start, Sarah! Do you have any idea what's going on because of you?"

I shrugged. I hadn't done anything, except that prank with the vodka, but that had been solved and Harry was okay with it now.

"Have you packed?" Dad asked me.

"Of course. You order, I obey." I rolled my eyes.

"Quit that attitude, young lady."

"Or what, mom? I'm going back to the Makah Res, remember?"

"William is going with you," Dad announced taking us by surprise. "You need to learn how to defend yourself on your own and your brother has a lot of time to spare."

"Didn't you hear me? I got married today! I intend on spending some quality time with my wife!"

"Well, you have one night, so if you want to go meet her, just go. But tomorrow you're going with your sister, is that clear?" Dad said.

William glared at our parents and pouted.

"Harrison, you'll resume your responsibilities in the Heiltsuk Reservation with Levi. Staying here won't change anything."

"Are they still going to quit? Even knowing what Vlad is planning for the future?" Harry asked.

"No, but Lance needs help with the boys anyway."

Harry nodded in agreement.

"Have some rest tonight. We'll tell you if anything comes up." Sam advised.

"We'll talk more in the morning," Dad said and then they all left. Mom went to take Grandma Sue home, and dad and Sam went to the forest together.

"Maybe I should go and take a walk too. I mean it's still early in the night and maybe I can find Lindsey or Dora and catch up with them."

"Your friends ditched you, Sarah." William mocked.

"No, they didn't. I still talk to them on the phone... sometimes..."

William was right. I had been so busy trying to phase and win Jay back that I had stopped answering my friends' messages. Besides I had left school without even saying goodbye. I was a pretty lousy friend. They had every right not to want to hang out with me anymore.

"You can't leave the house. You know the rules." Harry warned.

"I just... I just want to see Dora and Lindsey so I can apologize."

"William is going to be your shadow because you're not safe here."

"What the hell are you talking about, Harry?"

"He's outside. He thinks I can't feel his presence, but I can. He can fool everyone but me."

"Can you please tell me what's going on?" Now my brother was scaring me.

"Levi! I'm talking about Levi! Ever since he came back to go with us to Portland, because that stupid vamp wanted to humiliate us for having destroyed his stupid aircraft, Levi has been acting erratically. He can't sleep, he can't eat properly, he can't control his thoughts. He's trying the best he can, but your presence here is making it hard for him."

"That's why dad is sending me with you," William added.

"He's outside?" I approached the window and watched the woods attentively. And Harry was right. He was there. In wolf form and I could now feel his calling. Not Levi's, his wolf's.

I didn't care about meeting Dora or Lindsey anymore. I would rather go to the woods and see Levi.

"If you're thinking about going out, forget it. We'll tie you up to a chair if we have to." William said and he was dead serious about it.

"It's not just Levi who's been struggling, you know?" I turned to my brothers who just looked at me apologetically. "I can't sleep either. I've been having nightmares too."

"You mean wet dreams with Levi?" William joked.

"No, I mean nightmares, Will! Like I dream about Levi ripping dad's head off and shit like that. Sometimes we both end up covered in blood... and yes, then we mate but not before you're all dead around us."

Harry and Will were silent for a couple of minutes. They probably didn't expect me to tell them that but I didn't have many people to talk with, especially now that Isaac was in an airplane going to Europe with Scarlett, and Sophia had imprinted on my cousin.

"This mating thing is bullshit!" I ranted. "Maybe I should go out there and just mate with him and have a couple of pups. Then everything would be back to normal." I wasn't serious but my words did have a strange effect on my brothers.

William and Harry were looking at me as if I had grown two heads and then I burst out laughing.

"You should've seen your faces! That was priceless!"

"Are you stupid?" William said still in shock.

"I was joking, Will. You have no sense of humor whatsoever!"

"You can't joke about that! And I forbid you to ever say the words 'mate', 'Levi', and 'pups' in the same sentence, do you hear me?"

"Fine." I laughed again and I walked towards the stairs. "But so you know, Carlisle gave the birth control shot so even if we did it, I wouldn't get pregnant."

And I ran up the stairs laughing at their expenses.

That night I couldn't sleep again. I tossed and turned and then when the sun was rising I decided that I had to do something about this. I had to speak to Odessa Clearview as soon as possible. This mating season had to end.

Isaac Black

The cars left early in the morning. This was the second day since we had arrived at Ravenna, a city in Italy. Vlad and his friends were going to bring the Volturi who had been captured following the fall of Volterra.

"How long do we have until they're back?" Scarlett asked sitting down beside me. We were in her room.

"A few hours."

"Are we going to try to escape?"

"No, that would only turn things worse."

Vlad had left only three vampires guarding Scarlett because he had no idea I had been able to follow them all the way from the US. It had been relatively easy to leave the aircraft after it was empty and follow the group to the mansion where we were now.

So far, Scarlett had been well treated and I'd been able to conceal my presence since no one was actually expecting the presence of a wolf.

"What should I do?" Scarlett asked. "If I strip the powers of the vampires they'll bring here, I'll be helping them and quite honestly, I don't think the Romanians should be in charge. Aro is not an angel but... can you imagine what will happen if the Romanians seize the power from him?"

I knew what she meant and I agreed. Vlad's plan was too risky and too crazy to be put into practice. Even with all of his faults, Aro was still a better choice because he would protect the secret of the existence of the supernatural world.

"We need a plan," I replied. "And we have two days to execute it and get over with this."

"Two days?"

"If they don't find out the location of the Armadillo Fort, the Romanians will have to send you back to the US or face breaking the agreement they made recently with the packs. They want to use you against the Volturi but they can only do that if they know where they are."

"What's their plan? To interrogate and torture the Volturi who were captured?"

I nodded. That was exactly what they were probably doing right now. That's why they had taken two days to arrange those vampires to come to Ravenna, they wanted to interrogate them first. But just like Scarlett had said, they wouldn't succeed because those vampires had been left behind and had no idea the location of the Fort.

"Unless you tell them."

"Me? Are you crazy? If I do that they'll take me with them to the Fort and they'll win this war. Not that I wouldn't like to see Jane and Alec begging for their miserable existence but... you know what will happen next. Vlad and Stefan want a world for the vampires, a world where humans will be hunted down like animals, and eventually your family and friends will be in danger too."

"In that case, we have to make sure I'll get there first."

"To warn them?"

"No, I'll do better than that. I'm going to give the Volturi something so they can win this war."

"Okay, I'm listening."

So I told her and despite being dangerous she agreed that it was a plan worth trying. So now we had to wait for Vlad and the others to arrive. With some luck, they were going to bring home the weapon that would destroy them.

Her name was Sage Grimberg and she was from Miami, Florida. She was a vampire who had joined the ranks of the Volturi Guard in 2018 when the Volturi started to prepare for the war against Joham and his werewolves companions. Before Joham was captured, Aro had decided to eliminate the army he had been creating because there were too many vampires in Volterra to feed and train. Sage had been spared though because she had an interesting gift.

She had the ability to enhance the powers of vampires even if only temporarily. Our plan was to take Sage to the Armadillo Fort. We knew that the Volturi didn't want to face the Romanians because they had Sulpicia and Athenodora captive and couldn't risk them being killed but with Sage's help they could find and rescue the wives and then, eliminate the Romanians for good.

"You are one hundred percent sure that Priya is in the Fort, right?"

"Yes," Scarlett replied. "Ever since the wives were taken, she's not well. She's mentally unstable much like Caius and Aro. But she's there. I saw her and I know that Chelsea ordered her to be guarded."

Priya was the other vampire who was crucial to our plan. When she was in Whiskey Cove with the Volturi, she had felt that something had happened to the wives who had been left in Volterra. Scarlett explained to me that her ability was a mental connection with the Elders and their wives. So we could use her to locate Sulpicia and Athenodora if her powers were enhanced. She would work as a specialized tracker.

Of course that this plan was also depending on other important factors. Scarlett would have to make sure not to erase Sage's powers. Then she would have to convince the Romanians to let her go and finally I would have to track her down and convince the former Volturi member to help us.

If I was succeeded I would have to take Sage to the Armadillo Fort and hope the Volturi would receive me and hear what I had to say. But I knew they could simply send me off or kill me. I was hoping to find Chelsea before meeting Jane or Alec. Out of the three, she seemed the more reasonable one and would probably accept listening to me.

The only problem with my plan was that I would have to leave Scarlett alone with the Romanians for at least a couple of hours.

"I know you're worried but don't be." She said almost as if she had read my mind. "I know what to do. I'll buy you the time you need to go to the Armadillo Fort and talk to the Volturi, then I'll tell the Romanians about the Fort's location and we'll meet again."

"It would be better if they didn't have to take you there."

"Season is their weapon, so they have to take me."

"I know... But you'll be exposed and I promised I would protect you."

"It's a good plan, Isaac. Too good to waste. If we pull this off, Vlad and Stefan will probably die and their dreams of vengeance and of a world controlled by vampires will end. That's what we have to worry about right now. We'll be saving the lives of many people."

Vlad and Stefan returned when the sun was about to go down and the sky was painted in orange and purple. Eight vampires had been captured. Eight former members of the Volturi coven. Sage was one of them. She was brought before Scarlett with another vampire. His name was Shannon. So I wouldn't have just to convince one vampire to help me but two of them.

"You're not going to kill them, are you?" I heard Scarlett asking Vlad, who hesitated for a second. "I remember you saying that you were not murderers. That you were different from the other coven."

"You're right, we are different. Alright, they can go and if they wish to join us one day, they'll be welcome."

Stefan sighed disapprovingly, but the decision was made and Sage and Shannon left immediately.

Now it was up to me. The hunt was about to start.
