As soon as Rena went to college, she began to live there, meaning she couldn't see Monogaku for a number of years. He took this opportunity to do something he had been planning for. He went to the world of politics. He left his job as a teacher, promising to come back in a few years. He had been planning this with the main staff for a few months so they would warm up to the idea. Due to Rena never really keeping up with such things, him becoming a politician would not hit her radar. Monogaku made sure to gun for a position that would have a considerable amount of power, but not so much that he would bring attention to himself by the general public.
Just like when he was a teacher, he would become a great actor under the spotlight. While he didn't quite care for the job, this would teach him greatly about different manners of which he would later use to his fullest. During her time at college, Rena would call and send texts about her life there and he would encourage her with the guise of still teaching. This continued for 4 years, until it was finally time for Rena to graduate. Even though he couldn't make it to her graduation, he congratulated her and promised to go drinking with her. However, this brought up the problem of time. Monogaku was in the middle of a big campaign and he would not be in the clear until months after Rena would apply to work as a teacher. At first, this seemed like a setback, but he used this to his advantage.
…
One day, Rena called him.
Rena:"I made it in, I'll be good to start teaching this upcoming school year! It's a shame I won't be able to see you, but I hope your business trip goes well."
Monogaku:"This will be good for you, make sure you learn in your first months to truly understand your students. Do not be lenient, as students will see how pretty you are and assume you're easy to take advantage of."
Rena:"No worries, I took plenty of fighting classes."
Monogaku:"Uh, I don't know if beating up your students will work."
Rena:"That worked when I was on the committee in my college though."
Mongaku:"Well...everyone teaches differently. Just use that when dealing with delinquents or something."
Rena:"No problem. I'll become as good of a teacher as possible."
…
Monogaku made sure to let Rena be a teacher for two years. This was so their reunion would be delayed. By just barely missing him and staying as a teacher alone for 2 years, instead of spending time with Monogaku, she would grow impatient and come to desire him even more.
…
At the start of Rena's second year of teaching, this is when she would meet Shimoda and convince her to come to school. Rena would try her hardest to be the model teacher that Monogaku wanted. She would be quite strict, and quiet, doing her best not to let her true self out in fear of losing respect. However, her slight outbursts would lead to her knocking out the delinquents, Shimoda included, on occasion.
She would also stare quite hard at people misbehaving, this was her not knowing what to say during these situations. Everytime Rena would come home one of her outbursts, she would blush and scream into her pillow in embarrassment. However, due to this mask she put on, a fanclub would circulate around her, she wasn't quite sure how to react, but she appreciated it. This also led Shimoda to look up to her as a true idol. At the start of her third year of teaching, Monogaku would finally come back to the world of teaching.
…
Rena:"You're here."
Monogaku:"Sorry I kept you waiting."
The two hugged for the first time since that study session all those years ago.
Monogaku:"Now that you're an adult, you're looking quite different in my eyes!"
Rena:"Happy to hear it."
…
This third year of teaching would also be the years when she would meet Kotoha and see Isanari's relationship bloom. The combination of this and the return of Monogaku would lead her to be far happier, whether she could help it or not. This third year with the punk Isanari, the former gang leader Kotoha, the president of her fan club Maruo and her crush now co-worker Monogaku was one of the best years in her life, even with her slowly worsening disease.
…
During that year, Maruo had promised to become a doctor looking to save her from her disease, having seen her suffer from it. She would keep this secret from Isanari and Kotoha out of fear of worrying them, but Maruo was smarter than that, he would always visit her. Monogaku would also come by, much to Maruo's annoyance. But, this was not out of true concern. If Rena were to die now, Monogaku's revenge would mean nothing. It made him sick to look after the woman that caused him his sister's life, but he did it anyway, all with a smile on his face.
...
But all of that eventually ended, and Isanari, Maruo and Kotoha graduated. After everyone said their goodbyes, Monogaku found Rena in her room thinking about something, but that train of thought was interrupted once he entered. On that day…
Monogaku:"A full three years of teaching, I'm more than impressed with you."
Rena:"Well, it wasn't all easy, but all of you were there for me."
Monogaku:"Yeah...I think you're more than worthy now."
Rena:"Huh?"
Monogaku:"Rena-chan, would you do me the honor of going out with me? With a future prospect of marriage?"
This shocked Rena, but she had been waiting for this for years.
Rena:"Yes! Of course!"
Without thinking, Rena agreed to this. They both smiled and hugged each other once again. Rena couldn't see it, but his smile became the most distorted it had ever been. After many years of planning, their twisted love fated for tragedy would finally begin.
