It was after midnight when Karen came in the house. Olivia and Fitz were still on the sofa sleep in each others arms. Olivia looked out the window to see headlights leaving the driveway.
"Where's Amelia?"
"With Sophia."
Karen could barely keep her eyes open. She stumbled walking to the stairs. Olivia nudged Fitz awake and called Maya. Fitz tried to convince her to not call Maya this late. It would be daylight in a few more hours. Maya answered on the first ring.
"Hello?"
"Are the twins home?"
"Yes, they got here a few minutes ago."
"Amelia didn't come home."
"Livvie, how many times are we going to have this conversation? Let Amelia grow up. They graduated early. My mom let Sophia have her independence. She has a car, and she'll be getting a job soon."
"I still pay the bills at the house."
"My mom really appreciates that."
"Amelia wants a car, and she wants to be roommates with Sophia."
"Okay. That's fine. She's responsible."
"I don't want her to get pregnant."
"She's not going to be pregnant in high school. They graduated Livvie. Amelia is going to be stunted if you refuse to let her grow up. She'll be 18 in two years, and she will not know how to manage her life without you controlling everything."
"I'll call you later."
"Let Amelia move out, and give her a car. You can still call her every day and visit when you're in DC."
"I'll think about it."
"Are you ready to go upstairs?" Fitz asked, when Olivia hung up the phone.
"Should I let her go Fitz?"
"Yes, Livvie. We are barely home. She's already living with Sophia when we are not in DC. Karen is with Maya and the twins."
Olivia leaned on Fitz shoulder and he helped support her weight going up the stairs. Her stomach was huge, and he worried about falling on the stairs if he tried to lift her off the hardwood floor.
"Fine, I'll get her a car tomorrow, and she can start packing."
"You're a good mom Livvie. I don't know how you worked a full day in LA; flew to DC to have dinner with Amelia and flew back to LA to be back at work the next day while pregnant. You wanted to celebrate your birthday together. I know she was happy to see you in DC before your summer schedule."
"I really wish I could only be in LA on weekends. My schedule is always so hectic now."
"We're here together now. Let's be happy while it last for the next few months."
"Okay."
