Rena was walking through the hallway when a certain conversation caught her attention.
"Isn't that kinda weird?"
"They have more than enough members, the problem is how the higher ups would deal with it."
"It's not like they're not allowed, but it's like, she's right here."
Rena approached the girls, wondering what the issue was.
Rena:"What's so weird?"
"Ah, Nakano-sensei! W-Well, we recently got this application for a new club."
Rena:"Let me see...An application for a Nakano-sensei...fanclub…"
Rena's face turned white, making her expression very from complete stillness occasionally broken by very slight annoyance.
Rena:"T-The club leader is...Maruo-kun?"
"At first, we thought that it was nothing but a prank. After all, he simply didn't seem like the type to do such a thing, but he personally came to us all serious going, 'This formal application is no joke.'. Like how do we respond to that!?"
Rena put her fingers on the bridge of her nose, lightly squeezing it as she thought about this new development.
Rena:"W-Well, it's not like it's against the rules…"
…
Maruo once again came by Rena's room.
Maruo:"Good day, Nakano-sensei."
Rena:"Oh, hello. Leader of the Nakano-sensei Fanclub."
Maruo stood still with that statement for a while before quickly booking it out of there.
Rena:"Ah, I teased him too hard."
…
With enough tries, Rena managed to get Maruo back into her room, and eventually she would ask the reason for creating such a thing.
Maruo:"The reason...is because I admire you."
Rena:"Is that so…"
Maruo:[...Admire her, that is true. However, why does it feel like that isn't the whole reason…?]
…
"Apparently Maruo-kun is now Student Council President."
"I wonder what happened, he never had any interest."
Eventually, one of the girls asked Maruo the question. Before, Maruo wouldn't follow many rules. This wasn't out of a sense of rebellious attitude, but of his ideals. He believed many rules were detrimental to his path and simply ignored them if it would make his life a little easier. But, suddenly, he began to follow every single rule by the book, certainly a suspicious change. Maruo answered…
Maruo:"I simply understood that this is in my best interests."
While this wasn't wrong, he omitted what made him come to that conclusion. One day, he overheard some girls asking what type of guy Rena was into.
Rena:"Eh...I suppose I like serious men that follow the rules beautifly?"
With that, Maruo, without thinking about it, began to be the model student.
…
"Did you hear what Uesugi did again?"
"He's really going all out with picking fights."
This conversation caught Maruo's attention and he decided to meet this "Uesugi". He finally met him after school beating up another student. As he was about to finish it, Maruo grabbed his arm.
Maruo:"You'll be coming with me to-guh!"
Maruo's sight suddenly turned towards the floor as he collapsed. Uesugi had landed a clean hit on his stomach.
Uesugi:"Stay the hell out my way, you square."
Maruo couldn't do anything as Uesugi finished up and left.
Maruo:"How barbaric…"
…
Over the next few weeks, Maruo would come back to try to stop Uesugi and every time, he ended up a little worse. One day, they met once again on a grassy slope leading to a river.
Uesugi:"You really don't give up. Should I break those kneecaps?"
Maruo:"You say that like it will stop me."
Uesugi:"Oh, you've got balls. Let's put that to the test."
Then, both could hear a clap. As the two turned, they would see the figure of a woman approaching.
Rena:"Let's break this up now, why don't we?"
Uesugi:"Who the hell's that?"
Maruo:"Sensei…"
Rena:"You're hurt. We'll need to get you to the nurse. Uesugi here can carry you."
Uesugi:"Huh!? You think you can order me around!?"
Rena grabbed his hand gently, but Uesugi couldn't escape her grip.
Rena:"Why yes, I do believe I can."
Uesugi:[The hell is happening?]
Maruo tried to get on his feet.
Rena:"Don't stand up."
With Rena's attention somewhere else, Uesugi escaped.
Uesugi:"Don't think you can get the better of me, you bitchy old hag!"
…
The next half second of Uesugi's life was a blank on his brain as his body felt fear like never before. Before him, both Maruo and Rena turned into indiscernible shadows of pure hate.
Rena?:"Old hag?"
Maruo?:"What did you just say?"
Uesugi:"What the hell? How touchy are you? And why the hell are you mad!? Hey, stay away, get away from me-"
…
Rena:"Now, I expect you two to get along, okay?"
Maruo:"Yes, I do expect a good sense of cooperation from you."
The mangled, broken body of Uesugi, only held up by Rena holding him up by the arm, did his best to say yes through all the lumps and bumps.
Uesugi:"Bh-bis…"
Rena:"I think I heard something resembling a 'yes', so I'll take it. Although now it seems your ride to the nurse needs a ride himself."
Maruo:"Not to worry, I feel much better now."
Uesugi:[These two are crazy…]
…
Over the next set of months leading into their third year, Maruo and Uesugi, who would reveal his name to be Isanari, would get together more often, eventually having lunch together and opening up more. So long as Isanari didn't diss Nakano-sensei(who he did find attractive, he just said that out of anger), his life would not be in danger. However, with the dawn of the new year, this would lead into the beginning of Maruo's true hardships.
Maruo:"It seems that we'll be having a new teacher…Nakano-sensei seemed quite excited."
Maruo went into the staff room to meet the new teacher, to see that Rena was already next to him, with a face Maruo had never seen before.
Rena:"You're finally here, Noboru-sensei!"
Noboru:"It truly has been a while, Rena-chan."
Maruo:"..."
Despite never having that expression on her, Maruo understood the implication behind it. Those eyes, that blush, that posture, Maruo had experienced this first hand with Rena. But now she was mirroring these actions to someone he had never met. Only one thing was on Maruo's mind.
Maruo:[Who the hell is this man?]
