Chapter 9: Self Discovery [Part 4]
As Rukia continues to hold on to Shirayuki's cold body, she noticed that, the cold does not bother her anymore.
In fact, she felt like the cold was coming inside her.
She then stared at her bleeding index finger, and remembered the decisive technique she used against Shirayuki.
As Shirayuki thrust her sword towards Rukia, Rukia remained still and focus, sensing how the blades collides with the frozen wind particles.
And when it went close enough, that she could touch the tip of the sword, she maneuvered Shirayuki's attack in her advantage, as she used her petite body to move quicker than her zanpakuto.
In a mere second, she touched a piece of the sword, knowing that, with it, she can transform her riatsu into an Ice sword, just like how she was able to regenerate her broken sword with ice, when she had killed the 9th Espada back at Las Noches Palace.

"Why?" Rukia heard Shirayuki asked, after sometime. "Why are you so selfless?"
Silent met her question. Contemplating. Understanding.
"I am not selfless. I just want to protect the ones I love with everything I have" Rukia answered.
"Was it wrong?" she asked.
To be continued…
Protecting the ones you love who never ask for your protection in the first place, is what I now understand as selfishness.
That's why I am selfish. And it hurts. It makes you set higher standards for yourself, that made you feel miserable and unhappy, because you constantly feel that you are not good enough. And that you're falling short of what you expected from yourself.
