Conversations on a Balcony
107
Something startled Cat awake, and she rubbed her eyes as she looked around the balcony in confusion. She'd fallen asleep on the couch obviously and she got up to head into the bedroom. It was lit by a dim nightlight, and she smiled adoringly as she took in the scene in front of her. Kara was reclined against her pillows, topless and dozing, with Liv attached to her breast, making little gurgling noises as she fed. Abby was lying kind of diagonally, sleeping with her head pillowed on her /ieiu/'s stomach and her hand tucked under her chin. Kara was drooling down her chin.
Cat reached over to her nightstand to grab her phone but by the time she'd turned back around, Kara was wiping her face off and chuckling softly. "Don't you dare," she whispered. "It would be just my luck that your cloud account would be hacked, and the picture would get out."
"But it's such a beautiful moment," the older woman replied with a rare pout.
Kara sighed. "Ok… but if it gets out, it's grounds for divorce!" She didn't mean it, but Cat got the message.
"I'll put it in my vault folder."
The hero felt better at that. "Ok," she said and smiled beautifully as Cat captured the moment with her iPhone.
"Thank you, Baby," the older blonde said and climbed onto the bed to lean over and kiss her wife's lips. Then she settled against her shoulder, reaching out to gently stroke Liv's little head with her fingertips. "So… what did you say to Brandon?"
Blue eyes blinked innocently. "Who me?"
"Kara," Cat smiled. "I know you want after him. I can tell when you use super speed. You flicker."
Kara frowned. "Flicker?"
"Yeah," the older woman nodded. "One second you're there, the next you're gone. Most people wouldn't notice."
"But you do," Kara sighed.
"Of course I do," Cat grinned. "So, what did you say to him?"
The Kryptonian shrugged. "Supergirl suggested to him that he keep his more lascivious comments to himself."
"Sweetheart, Supergirl can't warn off everyone who makes a comment about her spouse."
The hero nodded. "No, I know… but she can warn off a guy who talked about raping her spouse."
Cat's mouth dropped open. "WHAT?!" Liv startled at the exclamation and her face scrunched up, tears threatening. Kara shushed her gently and stroked her face, encouraging her to go back to nursing. Cat shook her head sheepishly. "Sorry."
The hero kissed her wife's forehead, frowning unhappily. "He was telling his buddy that you had a tiger in the sack vibe and that he'd tap that, whether you wanted it or not. Supergirl reminded him to have some respect."
'Kara, I'm sorry," Cat said seriously. "I'm sorry you had to hear that and I'm sorry you had to call him out on it. Jesus Christ."
"Super hearing can be a curse," the Kryptonian sighed. "When I heard it, I couldn't do… nothing."
"I REALLY want to take back his fucking tip," Cat muttered, making Kara laugh softly.
"Let's just let it go, Cat-El. I'd rather just be here with you and the kids… and think happy thoughts. We have enough stress in our lives."
"Oh my God," Cat said sitting up. "With everything going on, I completely forgot to tell you! Carter called. He and Jordan are visiting… well… it's almost morning so… tomorrow, I guess. They were able to vacation time from the lab."
Wow, that's amazing," Kara replied happily. "I'd better let Alex know. She'll be thrilled. Are we picking them up from the airport?"
"Yeah, I told Carter to text me the time." Cat set her phone back on the nightstand and snuggled against her wife again. "He's so looking forward to meeting his new baby sister."
"Abby will be excited to see him too," Kara mused. "Even though they video chat a lot, she still misses him. Let's keep it a surprise until she sees him at the airport."
"Agreed," Cat replied with a smile. "Well, it looks like the limpet might be full."
Kara lifted her daughter gently and rested her against her chest at her shoulder to burp her, but in true Olivia style, the baby spit up on her. "Crap," she sighed as the milky substance crept down her back and chest. "I forgot to put a towel down."
"Rookie mistake," Cat teased gently as she grabbed the rough cloth and cleaned her wife up. "There, all good." She took Abby into her arms and stood to carry her to her bedroom, returning a moment later and getting back into bed.
Kara got up and gently laid the baby in her bassinet. "She's so beautiful," she said as she looked over at Liv's other mother. "She looks just like you."
"Get over here," Cat replied, making grabby hands at her wife and, just as Kara was about to ease into Cat's arms, her phone started vibrating and Alex's picture appeared on the screen.
Kara picked up the phone immediately. "Alex, what's wrong?"
"Supergirl is needed," came the calm reply. "A pride of lions escaped from National City Zoo."
"Uh…" Kara looked at Cat and frowned. "A pride of lions? Seriously? Isn't that something for animal control to take care of?"
Alex sighed. "Yeah… normally… but they've already mauled some people and animal control take time to mobilize at this time of the night."
"Ok," Kara replied, already in her suit. "I'm leaving home now. Switching to comms."
"Copy," Alex replied and hung up. The Kryptonian shoved her phone and glasses into her boot and shrugged. "I have to find a pride of lions and return them to the zoo."
"Ok, Tarzan," Cat teased.
Kara frowned again. "Who now?"
The older woman rolled her eyes. "Oh hell no. I'm not letting THAT one go. You're getting a Tarzan movie education!"
"Oh wait, is that the Disney animated movie with the guy in the jungle?" the Kryptonian mused.
Cat sighed this time. "Let's stick with the grown-up movies, shall we?"
The hero just grinned. "Ok, Honey. Gotta go. Back later."
