Chapter 111, I choose you!
Yamaguchi VS Admin Mika
"Don't let them distract us!" Admin Mika shouted as she turned to head back to where she came from. "We need to find the specimen, now!"
If you had told Yamaguchi this morning that he'd willingly be taking on Admin Mika in a pokemon battle and he'd be the one initiating it he'd call you crazy. Perhaps all the training with Kuroo had paid off, for he and Sylveon were able to overcome the few grunts between himself and Admin Mika like a hot knife through room temperature butter.
"Not so fast!" Yamaguchi shouted as he pushed past the grunts. He had no clue why Lillie was so adamant they kept Admin Mika and Colress from carrying on their search but something told him he couldn't let her get away. "Sylveon, use Swift!" He commanded and Sylveon did as she was told, targeting Admin Mika's feet.
"You are going to regret this, you little brat!" Admin Mika growled, pivoting to face Yamaguchi.
Despite her harsh words Yamaguchi didn't flinch. Now that he was free from that net he felt a sense of power. Things weren't in Admin Mika's odds anymore and Yamaguchi was able to fight back. He wasn't surprised when the angry Admin reached for her belt to reveal an ultra ball.
"Malamar, let's crush this kid," Admin Mika called as she released her Pokemon.
A large, evil looking Malamar appeared before Yamaguchi and Sylveon. Yamaguchi had always believed Pokemon weren't evil but were just used for evil. At the moment the look in this Malamar's eyes made him think otherwise.
"Malamar, use Psybeam," Admin Mika shouted.
"Sylveon, use Swift!" Yamaguchi commanded quickly.
Sylveon was much faster than she had been when she was an Eevee. In unison the two Pokemon released their attacks. Psybeam crashed into the Swift and the two canceled out.
The situation was dire and Yamaguchi knew he couldn't waste time to think. If Malamar got a good hit in and Sylveon went down he'd be without another pokemon to defend himself. "Quick Attack!" Yamaguchi shouted.
Sylveon practically vanished as she went in for the kill. Malarar was bulky but the attack nearly knocked it to the floor.
"Wrap!" Admin Mika shouted with a stomp of her foot.
"Dodge it with Quick Attack!" Yamaguchi said, hoping it worked.
Sylveon was able to easily dance past Malamar's tentacles and land another winning blow on the giant squid. Yamguchi couldn't help but feel a rush of excitement at how precise Sylveon was. She was like a blue blur racing this way and that. As much as he wanted to reveal in his brand new evolved Pokemon he knew they needed to get the job done sooner than later. He hadn't a clue how Lillie was doing in her battle and incapacitating Admin Mika was what he needed to focus on.
Yamaguchi couldn't recall what exact typing Malamar was off the top of his head and with his Pokedex lost somewhere in the tunnel he wasn't going to be able to look it up now. He just had to pray that his instincts were going to be enough to pull them through this. "Sylveon, use Disarming Voice!"
Yamaguchi had done some research a while back on Eevee and it's evolutions and knew that upon evolving into Sylveon she'd have learned this move. Sylveon gave a great cry as she faced off against Malamar and released a loud blast of sound.
Malamar crumbled to the floor. The move seemed to be very effective. With a triumphant smile Yamaguchi commanded once more "Disarming Voice."
Sylveon must have had the same idea for she released the attack almost immediately.
Malamar was out for the count this time. Admin Mika growled with anger. "If you think that's all I've got then you have another thing coming," She growled as he selected another ball from her belt.
It hadn't occurred to Yamaguchi but Admin Mika mostlikely had several Pokmeon on her. Would Sylveon be able to hold on until the end?
"Gourgeist, let's destroy this brat," Admin Mika cried as she released her next pokemon.
A large gourd like pokemon appeared from the ball. It looked a little less evil compared to Malamar but it seemed to be on its trainer's side 100%. The Gourgeist laughed and smiled wickedly as he floated in front of Sylveon.
"Use Quick Attack," Yamaguchi shouted but to his horror the attack didn't seem to have much of an affect on their opponent.
"Rookie mistake!" Admin Mika laughed. "Gourgeist, Shadow Sneak!"
The Gourgeist released a kackel as a amonus shadow swallowed Sylveon.
"Sylveon, NO!" Yamaguchi shouted! "Swift! Use Swift!"
Sylveon released a small cry as she released her attack. Once again it had no effect!
"I guess you're not nearly as clever as you thought," Admin Mika laughed. "Crushing you is going to feel so good. Bullet Seed, Gourgeist!"
Sylveon released a loud cry as the attack knocked her to the ground. Yamaguchi clenched his fist. He felt like an idiot. Gourgeist was a ghost type so any normal type moves couldn't affect it. "Sylveon!" He cried and to his relief Sylveon pulled herself off the cold floor, still ready to do whatever it took to protect Yamaguchi.
"It's almost more satisfying when you crush them after they put up a good fight," Admin Mika said with an evil smile.
Yamaguchi wasn't the best with knowing all the type advantages yet but he was pretty sure Ghost types were not resistant to Fairy moves. "Baby Doll Eyes!" Yamaguchi shouted.
Sylveon gave a great cry as she ran in close to Gourgeist. Her eye's became large and sparkly and upon seeing this Gourgeist became a little reluctant to attack.
"Disarming Voice!" Yamaguchi commanded, not hesitating a bit.
Sylveon gave another loud bark that blasted Gourgeist back and onto the floor.
"Gourgeist use Bullet Seed!" Admin Mika cried.
Gourgeist released the attack but didn't seem to put it's full power into it. It looked almost reluctant to attack Sylveon now.
"Intercept it with Swift!" Yamaguchi called.
Sylveon released a small bark before releasing the attack. The stars easily knocked the seed aside.
"Disarming Voice, once more," Yamaguchi commanded.
Gourgeist tumbled to the floor from the direct hit. It looked to be a critical one at that. Sylveon gave a happy bark before landing beside her trainer. Yamaguchi could tell that Sylveon was wearing down despite her looking at the ready. He didn't have a single thing to help revive her even a little. He watched in horror as Admin Mika called back her Gourgeist and reached for another ball.
"Your Sylveon is looking a little worn down," Admin Mika sneered. She knew Yamaguchi had only one Pokemon to defend himself and while she was angry that he was putting up such a good fight it made squashing him all the more enjoyable. "Scolipede, it's now up to you to destroy this kid!"
A very aggressive looking Scolipede sprung from the ball. Yamaguchi felt the overwhelming need to vomit upon seeing it. Not only had one of these things almost cost him his life a few weeks back but he knew Sylveon was at a type disadvantage. While he wasn't the most knowledgeable about type advantage he did know that Fairy was weak to Poison.
Sylveon growled aggressively upon seeing the Scolipede. While this hadn't been the one that almost killed Yamaguchi just seeing it evoked anger in her tiny blue body.
"Well now, not so tough are you!" Admin Mika taunted, picking up on the fear in Yamaguchi's eyes.
Yamaguchi's hand unconsciously went to his side where the wild Scolipede had stung him. "W-We have to s-stay focused," Yamaguchi gasped, doing his best not to get lost in his fear.
Sylveon gave a bark of agreement. She didn't seem to be worried to be facing off against a poison type. Her bravery and readiness to battle remind Yamguchi to believe in her. Together they'd be able to make it through this.
"Sylveon, use Swift!" Yamaguchi commanded!
"Poison Tail, Scolipede," Admin Mika retaliated.
The two Pokemon clashed and Yamaguchi could tell the hit hurt Sylveon despite her effort to shake it off!
"Venoshock!" Admin Mika wildly shouted.
"Quick Attack!" Yamaguchi countered, hoping she'd be able to avoid the move.
Sylveon just barely dodged it before smashing herself into Scolipede's side. The large poisonous bug staggered back. Though they didn't have a type advantage Sylveon was much faster then Scolipede so maybe they'd be able to wear it down with speed.
"Swift!" Yamaguchi cried.
Sylveon moved quickly, directing the attack at Scolipede's face. The large bug stumbled back with an angry cry.
"Poison Tail!" Admin Mika shrieked.
Sylveon cried out as the large bug's tail smashed her to the floor. Despite the effect of the poison getting to her she wasn't going to give up. Yamaguchi could see the determination in her eyes.
"Disarming Voice!" Yamaguchi shouted. He wanted more than ever to run out there and save her from the Scolipede but he recalled Kuroo's words. He had to believe in Sylveon even in moments like this.
Sylveon gave a great cry before releasing a massive soundwave into the Scolipede's face. Scolipede staggered back, shaking it's head wildly.
"Swift!" Yamaguchi commanded without missing a beat.
Sylveon had reached her limit but even that wasn't going to stop her from protecting Yamaguchi. With another mighty cry Sylveon knocked Scolipede to the floor with a perfectly placed Swift.
Scolipede landed hard and didn't budge. "Get up you useless piece of shit!" Admin Mika screamed.
Sylveon collapsed to the ground with exhaustion. Yamaguchi raced forward and scooped her up into his arms. "You were amazing," He praised. Sylveon purred as she nuzzled his neck. Yamaguchi had the sinking feeling that she may have been poisoned. Now they really had to get out of here.
Admin eyes were on fire as Scolipede didn't move a smidge. She called back her Pokemon as she sent Yamaguchi a murderous look. "You!" She shouted as she stormed towards him. "You're going to pay for this! For all of this!" She yelled.
Yamaguchi stumbled back. As Admin Mika went for her next Pokemon. Unfortunately for her she had run out or Pokemon. "Fuck!" She shrieked. Nonetheless she still looked ready to kill the trainer in front of her even if she had to use her own hands.
Fortunately for Yamaguchi, Lillie and her team were ready to protect him. "Dazzling Gleam," Lillie commanded as her Hatterene stood between Admin Mika and Yamaguchi.
Admin Mika shielded her eyes as she stepped back. In the commotion Yamaguchi felt someone grab him by the elbow and pull him out of the cavern. To his relief it was Lillie. Without a word she motioned to Yamaguchi that it was time to go. Yamaguchi, with Sylveon still in hand, followed after Lillie. He was more than ready to get out of here and as far away from Admin Mika as he could.
"Don't let him get away!" Yamaguchi could hear Colress shout from behind. "We still need him!"
An explosion sounded off as Hatterene blasted off another attack.
"This isn't over!" Admin Mika shouted after Yamaguchi. "You can't run forever!"
At this Yamaguchi picked up the pace. He felt his heart pounding like wild in his chest. This all felt like some sort of crazy out of control dream. He wished to just wake up and have it all be just that. Another explosion sounded from behind him but he didn't stop running.
"Just a little further!" Lillie cried. "Once we get out of here they won't dare follow us!"
Yamaguchi nodded but didn't dare open his mouth in fear of vomiting everywhere. His left side hurt like crazy and though he was running through a dark tunnel he didn't stumble even once. It was amazing what adrenaline did for you. Another loud blast sound and with it Colress', Admin Mikas' and the grunts' shouting faded. The tunnel was quiet now aside from the harsh sounds of their heavy breathing. Yamaguchi wondered if they'd ever escape from this darkness.
"Up ahead!" Lillie shouted to her Hatterene. The large psychic pokemon rushed ahead and slammed into the wall. As it did so the wall crumbled and revealed an opening. Yamaguchi felt the urge to cry as they sped out of the tunnel and into the afternoon sun.
Lillie and he ran a bit more until they made it to the cover of rocks. Yamaguchi collapsed against a rock as he caught his breath. Sylveon was still in his arms but she seemed to be doing a lot better. She definitely handled being poisoned much better then he had.
Lillie took a seat beside Yamaguchi and handed him a pecha berry. "For Sylveon," she said with a friendly smile.
Yamaguchi nodded in thanks as he took the berry and fed it to his pokemon. Sylveon gobbled it right up and looked almost as good as new. Yamaguchi gave her a warm hug as he fought the urge to cry.
He had been in more danger than ever back in that tunnel. That team had actively tried to run off with him. If it hadn't been for Lillie who knows where he'd be now. He was still processing all that had just happened. He could feel himself shaking from the fear and adrenaline.
"You okay?" Lillie asked, picking up on how frazzled Yamaguchi was. "They wouldn't dare to follow us out here into the daylight so we are safe."
"R-right," Yamaguchi replied, swallowing down the need to vomit. He didn't know what to do next. He didn't know how safe he really was.
"Were you staying at The Oasis?" Lillie asked, doing her best to put things right.
"W-What… What is going on?" Yamaguchi asked, turning to her.
Lillie hesitated for a moment. Her green eyes studied Yamaguchi as if she was trying to find the right words. "We should get you back to The Oasis."
"They, they have been after me," Yamaguchi replied, a bit angry at how Lillie had brushed off his question. "I've been having these weird dreams and today they said they needed me. What is going on, Lillie!?" Yamaguchi knew Lillie would have answers.
Lillie considered him for a long moment. "You've been having weird dreams?"
Yamaguchi nodded. "They are often about something calling to me for help… I think." He looked at her with pleading eyes. He just wanted to know what was going on.
Lillie quietly studied Yamaguchi for a long moment. "It's best if you don't get involved with Team Serpent any more then you have, Yamaguchi," Lillie calmly explained. "All I can tell you is that they don't plan on doing any good so it's best to stay away from them as best as you can."
"But they are the ones coming after me!" Yamaguchi argued. "I feel like I deserve at least a little explanation."
Lillie sighed heavily as this. She wasn't shocked that Yamaguchi was asking so many questions. She would have too if she was in his place. "Yamaguchi, it's confidential and I'm afraid I can't tell you," she repeated calmly. "I'm sorry you've had to become mixed up in this. I have no clue what they want with a trainer but it's best for your safety and the safety of people around you if you try to forget this."
Yamguchi was obviously not happy with this answer. He frowned at Lillie. He was grateful to have been saved by her but he knew she was keeping a lot from him. "How am I supposed to just forget this?" he asked, his voice cracking a bit with desperation for answers. "You heard what they said."
"Now that we know you're one of their targets we will be able to keep an eye on you," Lillie nodded reassuringly. "They wouldn't dare come after you knowing that we've been tipped off."
Yamaguchi shook his head as if to argue. He was not okay with any of this. He was still scared and confused. This had all been too real for him to even think about forgetting it had happened.
Lillie was picking up on this without him needing to voice it. "If necessary we will contact you if anything happens that could cause you any further problems. For now we should get you back to The Oasis where it's safe."
Yamaguchi released a great sigh. No matter how much he argued he knew Lillie wasn't going to relent. If he wanted to know what was going on he'd probably have to look into it himself and after today he wasn't sure if he was ready for that. Perhaps going back to the Oasis and trying to forget was all he could do. "F-Fine," he sighed, hanging his head low.
"Everything is going to be okay," Lillie reassured, placing a hand on his shoulder.
Yamaguchi nodded but didn't look up. He didn't feel okay in the least. He suddenly felt the overwhelming need to be with Tsukki.
"Come on, let's go," Lillie said before turning and heading down the path.
Yamaguchi, with Sylveon asleep in his arms, followed after her. They didn't speak a word as they walked. Yamaguchi was too lost in thought and Lillie had enough sense to pick up on it. As they went it never occurred to Yamaguchi to head back to where Kenma had set up their day camp. He had completely forgotten what he had been doing before being captured. Now all he could think about was what he would tell Tsukki when they reunited.
Just before arriving at The Oasis Lillie stopped them. "I'm going to leave you here to go the rest of the way," she explained.
Yamaguchi tilted his head to the side in confusion.
"I'm still under cover and I'd appreciate it if you didn't mention running into me to anyone," Lillie explained. "Actually, it's probably best if you don't mention any of this to anyone." Lillie looked to Yamaguchi knowing this was a lot to ask of him.
To her surprise Yamaguchi gave a quiet nod. She couldn't tell if he had actually registered what she had told him. The poor trainer still looked quite frazzled despite being safe.
Yamaguchi walked past Lillie mumbling a very quiet "Thank you for saving me," as he did so.
Lillie knew it was against protocol but she couldn't help herself. Yamaguchi looked so down and she had a sinking feeling this wasn't going to be the last time she saw him. Reaching out she grabbed him by the shoulder.
Yamaguchi turned to look at her. He had expected this to be the end of their conversation.
"Listen, I'll come and check back in with you in a few weeks," Lillie promised. "For now just try to relax and lay low. Go back to whatever it was you were doing. You and your Sylveon were very strong so if anything does happen I know you will be able to get yourself out of it."
Yamaguchi was touched by what Lillie had said and with the prospect of seeing her again with the possibility of answers did make him feel a bit better. "I guess I'll keep this a secret if that's really what is best," Yamaguchi nodded, though he wasn't sure if he'd be able to keep it from Tsukki.
Lillie reached into a pocket and handed Yamaguchi a card. "If anything happens in the meantime feel free to contact me at this number," she explained handing it over to Yamaguchi. As much as she'd like to think this trainer's capture was just a fluke she realized she needed to be careful.
Yamaguchi took the card and examined it for a moment. It looked to be a business card for a florist in Sinnoh. He didn't question why as he placed the card into his pocket. "So, I'll see you later?" Yamaguchi asked.
Lillie nodded with a bright smile. "Try to hang in there until then," She said. "And remember, it's best if you keep this a secret for now."

It looks like Yamaguchi and Sylveon were barely just able to make it out unscathed. What could be Lillie hiding? What could Team Serpent want with Yamaguchi? Will Yamaguchi tell the others about his day? Stay tuned to find out that and more.
