Not Quite the Truth
When Yamaguchi arrived back to his room, Tsukishima was nowhere in sight. He considered checking to see if the others were back but ended up collapsing into the armchair by the window. Sylveon made herself comfortable beside him as he slumped down into the chair until he was practically laying down.
Yamaguchi was shocked. It wasn't even 4pm but the time he'd spent in that cave felt like it had been an eternity. He knew Tsukki was going to arrive back demanding answers as to why Yamaguchi left without telling anyone. Did Tsukki even know that Team Serpent was in the area?
He needed to think about what he was going to stay when Tsukki arrived back. He knew he must look terrible and even if Tsukki wasn't worried he was bound to worry the moment he saw how messed up he was. On top of that his Eevee wasn't an Eevee anymore. Yamaguchi buried his face into the armchair's cushioned armrest and groaned into it. He was so confused, still quite scared and didn't know what to do about any of it.
Sylveon released a small purr as she laced her ribbons around her trainer's hand. A warm comforting pulse emitted from her. Yamaguchi felt himself calm down immediately. He didn't hesitate to take her into his arms. What would he have done if she hadn't been there by his side? He wasn't alone in this. No matter what happened next he and his team would somehow make it through together.
Yamaguchi relaxed as he held Sylveon close. Her calming puls lulled him to sleep. The events of the afternoon finally caught up to him leaving him exhausted. Musharna wasn't in the room but Yamaguchi was far too tired to even think about whether his dreams would be bad or not.
Tsukishima bursted into their hotel room about 20 minutes later. His eyes scanned the room and he almost collapsed to the floor in relief upon seeing Yamaguchi asleep in the chair. He was so relieved he didn't even realize his boyfriend was holding a blue Sylveon in his arms.
Tsukishima stumbled over to the chair to find Yamguchi was dead asleep. His boyfriend was filthy from head to toe with a giant black welt on his right cheek. His hair was messed up and a part of his shirt was torn. To top it all off he was snuggling with a Sylveon instead of an Eevee. It was obvious to him that Yamaguchi had some sort of altercation while out hunting for mushrooms.
Tsukishima wanted nothing more than to shake him awake but with how deep Yamaguchi was sleeping he considered otherwise. He'd let him sleep a bit longer before he'd shower him with questions. Leaning down he placed a gentle kiss on Yamaguchi's forehead. Yamaguchi smiled as he released a happy hum. A warmth spread through Tsukishima's chest upon seeing his boyfriend's peaceful sleeping face.
While Yamaguchi was dead asleep, Sylveon was now quite awake. She purred quietly as she took Tsukishima's hand in one of her ribbons. She looked just as messed up as Yamaguchi did. He didn't need to be told that she'd protected his boyfriend from something.
"Thank you for watching over him," Tsukishima said, patting Sylveon's head.
Sylveon thrilled happily upon the praise. It wasn't often that Tsukishima talked to her so gently. If there was one thing the two could agree on, it was protecting Yamaguchi.
Tsukishima placed a blanket on his boyfriend before cutting up a few Oran berries for Sylveon. He then made his way to the shower. He had gotten quite dirty himself in his hunt for his boyfriend.
Yamguchi awoke to the sound of the shower running. Sylveon wasn't beside him anymore but on the far side of the room eating from a bowl. Yamaguchi rubbed his eyes as he sat up. Looking at the clock and found that he had only been snoozing for about an hour. Despite that he felt loads better.
Tsukishima's items were sitting by the door along with the items Yamaguchi had lost in the cave. Someone must have gone looking for him if Tsukki had his dex. He wondered how much worry he'd put them all through. He wanted to keep his promise to Lillie about keeping quiet but part of him wasn't so sure about keeping it from Tsukki. The others were one thing but Tsukki was traveling beside him. He wanted to share at least a little bit of what happened with him.
As Yamguchi considered all this he looked out the window at the power plant. A shiver ran down his spine at the thought that Team Serpent had indeed set up camp there and had almost gotten away with kidnaping him yet again. The beam of light from last night was no Zapdos. It was definitely the doing of Team Serpent. But why?
They had talked about a specimen other than himself. From the sound of it it seemed like it may have escaped somehow. It must have been a Pokemon. Could it have been the one that's been interfering with his dreams? Something told Yamaguchi it was very possible but he didn't know for sure. Lillie did seem quite shocked that Team Serpent had tried to kidnap him. What did this team have planned and why are they trying to involve him in it?
Yamaguchi practically fell out of the chair when Tsukishima placed his warm hand on his shoulder. He jerked around to find Tsukishima standing behind him looking a bit startled himself. A rush of emotions washed over Yamaguchi. In an instant he flung himself over the back of the chair into Tsukki's arms.
Tsukishima nearly fell over at the sudden weight of Yamaguchi. Yamaguchi embraced him almost as if he was afraid he'd disappear. As much as Tsukishima wanted to scold him for disappearing, something told him Yamaguchi had been through something quite stressful.
"T-Tsukki," Yamaguchi sobbed as he hung from Tsukki's neck. "I was so scared. I thought I'd never see you again." He couldn't stop himself from crying as he buried his face into his boyfriend's shoulder. Just seeing Tsukki really brought home how close he had been to losing everything.
"Y-Yamaguchi," Tsukishima quietly reassured, rubbing circles into his back. "It's okay. I'm here."
Yamaguchi sobed and cried and when he thought he was finished he cried a bit more. It had all been too much for him. The whole event had left him shaken.
Tsukishima had no clue what to make of this. His boyfriend was obviously quite upset over whatever he'd been through today. At the moment Yamaguchi didn't seem to have the ability to really talk. He did seem to be saying something along the lines of 'I thought I'd never see you again' but it was hard for Tsukishima to really make out. All he could do was hold his boyfriend and comfort him.
Yamaguchi cried for a long while. Tsukishima had made sure to send a message to the others that he'd found him and not to bother them for a little bit. The last thing Yamaguchi needed was everyone fussing over him. As Yamaguchi's crying let up, Tsukishima took him to the bathroom to clean up. He was covered in dust from head to toe and Tsukishima was keen on bandaging the welt on his face.
Yamaguchi felt loads better after his cry and after a short but much needed shower. Washing off the mud and mess was almost like washing away the whole incident. As Yamaguchi cried he had lost himself and wasn't able to explain what had happened. He never meant to cry that hard and he knew it alarmed Tsukki. His boyfriend would be asking more questions now than ever. Yamaguchi still felt undecided on just how much he was going to reveal.
It was practically dinner time when Yamaguchi felt well enough to talk. He and Tsukishima sat up in bed together, Yamaguchi's head rested on Tsukki's shoulder. He wrapped his arm around Tsukki's as he prepared himself for the talk he knew was coming. Sylveon sat quietly at the foot of the bed, ready to be there for her trainer if he needed her.
"I ran into them again, Tsukki," Yamaguchi sighed. He knew Tsukki would catch on to what he meant.
"So, you did run into the evil team then?" Tsukishima confirmed.
Yamaguchi opened his mouth to correct Tsukki on the team's name but stopped short. He hadn't a clue if this was public knowledge or not. He found himself hesitating to speak. He gave a quiet nod, fixing his eyes on anything but Tsukki's face.
Tsukishima pursed his lips in frustration at the idea of Yamaguchi running into those jerks alone. They had obviously roughed him up. "What did they do to you?" he asked in a dark tone.
Tsukishima wasn't surprised that Yamaguchi didn't answer right away. A whole array of emotions passed through Yamguchi's eyes. He knew Yamaguchi was horrified by this team. Running into them alone probably didn't help with the whole dream situation as well. He was desperate to know what they'd done to his sweet boyfriend.
Yamaguchi didn't look Tsukki in the eye. Instead he fixed his gaze on his and Tsukki's intertwined hands. He fiddled for a long moment with Tsukki's fingers as he internally battled with himself over what to say. "Eevee and I got into a battle with Admin Mika and Eevee evolved," Yamaguchi decided. He felt the need to vomit at not telling the whole truth. He just wasn't sure if he was ready or if he could even go into detail at the moment.
"You battled one of the admins?" Tsukishima was impressed with his boyfriend. Sylveon must have been more powerful then he originally thought to hold her own against an admin of a team.
Yamaguchi gave a small nod. "We barely got away…" He sighed in a quiet voice. He thought about bringing up Lillie and being captured and taken away. He was at war with the weather to mention how Admin Mika and Admin Hiroo insisted on taking him with them to study him. He had no clue why they were after him but Lillie said not to worry anymore. Yamaguchi groaned as he buried his face into Tsukki's shoulder
"Hey, just try to relax," Tsukishima reassured, patting Yamaguchi on the back. He knew there was more to the story but didn't dare to get it out of his boyfriend yet. "We can talk more about it later if you want."
Yamaguchi signed deeply as he nodded in agreement. He couldn't even imagine articulating everything swarming in his mind into understandable words. He too had so many questions and he did intend to tell Tsukki of all that happened once he was able to sort himself out.
Then something occurred to Yamaguchi that hadn't before. He hadn't been the only one wandering around the tunnels alone. "Tsukki, did anyone else go missing?" he asked, looking at Tsukki for the first time since cuddling with him.
Tsukishima's eyes were soft as he looked at Yamaguchi. "Yeah, everyone is accounted for. I already let them know you're safe as well."
Yamaguchi smiled in relief though it didn't quite meet his eyes. He nodded before resting his head on Tsukki's shoulder once more. Being beside Tsukki really helped calm him. Everytime this occurred to him he'd remember how close he had been to losing Tsukki forever.
"Are you feeling well enough to get dinner with the others?" Tsukishima asked.
"Yeah, I'd like to see them," Yamaguchi nodded, knowing some time with Kuroo and the others could help ground him even more.
"I think we will just order stuff from the Oasis Hotel Restaurant today so don't worry about cooking," Tsukishima said before wrapping his arm around Yamaguchi and placing a kiss on his forehead. He felt Yamaguchi relax in his arms.
"I really love you, Tsukki," Yamaguchi signed and savored being held so close. After what happened today he was going to make sure to tell Tsukki this any chance he got.
"I love you, too," Tsukishima quietly replied.
The two cuddled on the bed for a while. With each breath taken Yamaguchi relaxed more. Just being with Tsukki brought him more comfort than he could have ever asked for. His thoughts became less jumbled but the stress of the day still lingered.
Almost an hour later a knock sounded at their door. Yamaguchi didn't remove himself from Tsukki when Kuroo let himself into the room. Kuroo studied the two and picked up almost right away that Yamaguchi wasn't feeling well.
"Are you two up for dinner with us?" Kuroo asked, expecting them to both pass on dinner.
"Yeah, just give me a minute," Yamaguchi sighed as he rubbed his face.
"If you want to stay in for the night-" Kuroo began to insist.
"I want to see everyone," Yamaguchi cut in, not sounding too sharp but insistent nonetheless.
Kuroo looked to Tsukishima in shock. He'd never been talked to by Yamaguchi like that. All Tsukki could do was shrug. This was what Yamaguchi insisted on so he wasn't going to argue with him.
"Just give me a moment," Yamaguchi said before rolling off the bed and heading to the bathroom.
Kuroo and Tsukki's eyes followed him until the bathroom door shut. Kuroo then noticed the blue Sylveon curled up on the foot of the bed. "Is that-!?" he began in shock.
"She evolved this afternoon," Tsukishima nodded.
"Was it a battle with the Evil Team?" Kuroo asked, walking over to the bed and petting Sylveon on the head. Sylveon purred as she leaned her head into Kuroo's hand.
"It would seem so," Tsukishima nodded. "But he hasn't told me much other than he battled an Admin."
Kuroo sat silent for a moment as he studied Sylveon. "When we searched the area we didn't find a single trace of the Evil Team," Kuroo wasn't smiling but looked very serious as he spoke. Tsukishima had never seen Kuroo look so worried.
"But Yamaguchi said he ran into them…" Tsukishima doubtfully hummed. "How could you guys have overlooked them?"
Kuroo was quiet once more as he considered the question. "He's certain it was the real Evil Team?" he asked, looking at Tsukki.
"If anyone knows Admin Mika it would be Yamaguchi. We've run into her specifically more times than we can count," Tsukishima said with full confidence.
Kuroo was a little skeptical but decided it was best not to argue with Tsukishima. He was far too protective of Yamaguchi and after today that protective nature has probably only heightened. "Do you think he'd talk to us about what happened?"
"Unless he brings it up, don't ask!" Tsukishima frowned. He knew Yamaguchi wasn't in the right mental state to be interviewed about all this.
"But it might be able to help Bokuto and Aakashi," Kuroo pushed. If Yamaguchi knew something he should tell them at least.
"Not tonight," Tsukishima argued.
Kuroo opened his mouth to argue but shut it quickly the moment Yamaguchi swung the bathroom door open. "Sorry to keep you waiting," Yamaguchi said, looking a little less dazed and slightly more refreshed. He looked between Kuroo and Tsukki who just stared at him blankly. "Are you two okay?"
"Yeah, fine," Kuroo smiled, getting up off the bed and spreading his arms wide.
"Nothing is wrong," Tsukishima agreed as he promptly stood up.
Sylveon, who had witnessed the argument, sprang from the bed and took Tsukki and Kuroo's hands in her ribbons. She glowed gently in an attempt to calm the two. Yamaguchi looked from Sylveon to the two trainers. It seemed Sylveon enjoyed calming people.
Yamaguchi chose to ignore whatever was bothering the two. He had too much on his mind to bother with Kuroo and Tsukki's argument. "Well, I'm starving so let's go," Yamaguchi said, giving his stomach a pat. He hadn't eaten since this morning.
"Right, let's go," Tsukishima said, removing his hand from Sylveon's ribbon.
"We ordered room service to our room," Kuroo explained as he too freed himself from Sylveon.
With that Kuroo led the others to his room. The walk was a bit awkward. There was definitely something going on between Kuroo and Tsukki. Yamaguchi had been so caught up back in his and Tsukki's room he hadn't even asked Tsukki how his day went.
Hinata and Bokuto's loud voices could be heard all the way from the far end of the hallway. Tsukishima released an annoyed 'tch' but Yamaguchi couldn't help but find it comforting. The loud cheerful shouts made it feel as if nothing bad was going to happen here.
Author Note:
Finally our dear Yamaguchi is back in safe hands. He seems to still be quite confused about all that had happened to him? Will he find it in him to tell the others about the whole truth or his it like Lillie asked? Will he ever tell Tsukki? What will he and Tsukki do after this incident? Stay tuned to find out that and more.
