Seeing Katie cursed had been horrifying, but her return to Hogwarts was what really broke Leanne.
Leanne saw Katie putting on a happy face, hiding her trauma with cheer. Katie patiently put up with Harry wanting to know who'd slipped her the package as soon as she'd entered the Gryffindor common room with Leanne. But Leanne wanted to hit the boy for focusing on that and quidditch rather than her best friend's well-being.
She was hit with a realization the moment righteous indignation flared: Katie could've died. But she hadn't, and now Leanne would treasure every moment they had together.
