Dear Harry,

Thanks for writing to me as soon as you could to let me know what happened and why you couldn't write or email. I'm glad that you're okay and away from the Dursleys, I hope that you are safe where you are now.

I arrived safely back at school and have settled in. Ethan and I are sharing a room again this year though as a post grad student I would be entitled to my own room if I wanted it. Ethan wouldn't be this year though he won't graduate until midyear, and he didn't want to have to share with anyone else. I don't mind sharing for another year, it was pretty lonely here last summer when I stayed for the extra semester and he went home, so I'm kind of glad he asked me to share again. We have a bigger room this year too which is nice and it's up another level just under the eaves so we don't have anyone above us and it's also a bit quieter among the juniors and seniors instead of the freshmen and sophomores so I suppose I should be grateful for the extra set of stairs to climb.

Classes haven't started yet but I managed to enrol in all the classes I was interested in (well my first choices, the ones I was most interested in that I qualified to do this semester since there's so many more I'd like to do too) and I'm eagerly working my way through the pre-readings that I hadn't already read.

I haven't heard from Mom yet but Aunt Ethel says she's doing okay. Lots of lecturing still but calm and managing to get out of bed and be showered and dressed ready for her lectures every morning and is eating well. I decided on foil meals to be heated in the oven, I couldn't bring the microwave back with me on the train but it's disconnected and down in the basement. I warned Aunt Ethel and Mom's friends that I was going to hide it so they bring things that heat in the oven when they come too. Aunt Ethel also arranged to have the stovetop disconnected so the only things Mom can use are the oven, the kettle and the toaster and she's put some sort of time limiter on the oven so it cannot be used between eleven at night and seven in the morning. If Mom's awake and out of bed at that time of night and early morning it's almost always because she's lost track of what time of day it is and is too disorganised to be safe cooking anything.

I got the amulet safely, as you would know already now since you received my emails or the letters I sent to Mrs Thomas. I think I can feel it working, well my mind doesn't feel any different so I can't feel it being protected exactly but I can sort of feel the magic and I feel safe when I'm wearing it.

It doesn't look anything like I expected it to but then having written that I couldn't tell you exactly what I expected either, maybe something a little more simple or crudely maid considering the age of it.

The part of your letter about the Weasleys rescuing you in their flying car and getting in trouble from their mother sounded quite confused. You were grateful to have been rescued but I agree the timing does seem too coincidental. What exactly do you suspect them of? Do you think that Mrs Weasley sent them to rescue you and only pretended to tell them off so you wouldn't be suspicious? Did she plan for them to go and get you like that? And if she did, do they know? Or did she manipulate them into thinking it was their own idea? Had someone been watching the house waiting for you to need rescuing? And if so do they know you weren't there most of the summer? If they do then it's odd that nobody has asked where you were. The punishment she gave them didn't sound too severe, perhaps it was a chore they would've been assigned anyway, or since it sounded like something they'd enjoy, an actual reward masquerading as a punishment to fool the unenlightened nonmagically raised.

Perhaps I'm being overly suspicious but you've had concerns about Mrs Weasley's attitude towards you every other time you've interacted so I don't think it's unwarranted. It is also possible that the twins 'steal' their father's flying car quite frequently and have learned to follow a nonmagical map, it wouldn't be that hard from up in the sky, they could have practiced it on their brooms even if they haven't borrowed the car before, and they do seem to be the rebellious type.

I think that you do need to visit a healer but I'm not sure that asking Mrs Weasley to take you is a good idea, if she is using you for some reason you don't want to give her more tools to manipulate you with and if she's gathering information for whoever is trying to control you, then you don't want to give her the information that you know about the difference between Madam Pomfrey and a Healer in case they question where you learned that, And you don't want whoever's trying to manipulate you to realise that you don't trust Madam Pomfrey. You're pretty vulnerable when you're sick or injured enough to be in her care. It wouldn't be difficult for someone to do something to you and make you think the mediwitch was responsible.

All these suspicions about everybody and then you also need to worry about that Elf, Dobby. Do you believe what he says that something terribly dangerous will happen at Hogwarts next year, or do you think he was sent by someone who has a motive for not wanting you to be at Hogwarts next year for some reason. That fellow Snape, comes to mind but is nastiness really a good motive for trying to scare his students out of coming back? Can you think of anyone else that might have an obvious motive? I really wish you'd got into a different magical school. I really don't like the idea of you having another hidden enemy at the school, not to mention if Dobby was telling the truth and he really wasn't asked or ordered to come and tell you about the threat at the school and his master has something terrible planned for the school.

You can stop worrying that you missed a letter because I didn't send one to the restaurant. I figured that when you couldn't get to the library to send me a quick email then you wouldn't be able to get to the restaurant to visit and I was worried that they'd open it when you didn't come and I'd have accidentally breached the statute of secrecy.

Your friend always

Spencer
