"We're not buying any cookies." Sophia said to the ladies standing on their doorstep.
"We're your nannies."
"What?"
Amelia and Sophia thought Olivia was joking when she told them a nanny would be there to supervise them tomorrow.
"We don't need a nanny. We are grown." Amelia said.
"Olivia has instructed us to alternate shifts seven days a week. There is not an hour of the day where you will be unattended."
"This is humiliating." Sophia said.
"You will have lots of activities, and we will accompany you. You do not need a curfew because you will never be alone."
"We don't need you to treat us like children."
"That's what you are for the next two years. Olivia wants a full report every day. I'm Catherine, this is Nehemiah and Emma. I'll be working first shift today. We are going to have breakfast, and then I'll be taking you to a matinee, after that you can choose your activities around the house until Nehemiah's shift."
"We don't want nannies. We could use a maid so we wouldn't have to hire a housekeeping service every week."
"You can clean up after yourself."
"We don't clean houses." Amelia said.
"Your housekeeping service is a privilege that you will have to earn."
"What are you going to do put us on timeout?" Sophia laughed.
"I've been instructed to buy two plane tickets if you refuse to listen. A ticket to Vermont and a ticket to California."
Amelia and Sophia stepped aside to let them in their home. Catherine reached in her purse for her phone. Olivia was making a cake with Karen when her phone rang. She was waiting to hear from the first shift nanny.
"Everything is going great. If anything changes, I will call you."
"Thank you." Olivia said.
"Can I have the spoon?" Karen asked Olivia.
"Yes."
"I want to find a Chuck E Cheese today. Sebastian can stay here with dad."
"We can do that Karen."
