So I've decided that this chapter would take place only two weeks after the last one. The date Tommy and Frost were supposed to get married.
The day was a Sunday, the first day of September, the summer days were ending. The twins got their list of school supplies for when they were going to start school the next week. Jane and Maura were out with the twins spending the day with them, shopping for things. The day went pretty smoothly, it was kind of busy because it was Labor Day weekend so everyone was getting things ready for their Monday off from work.
Jane had a small list of clients in her life coach career. She usually worked Mondays, Tuesdays and had Wednesdays and Thursdays off, doing both of her jobs on Friday and only working at the academy on weekends, but she had off Monday because of the holiday. Jane loved her job as an instructor preparing the kids for becoming an officer. Some of the kids were scared of her and some were a challenge that's for sure. There was even a girl that reminded Jane of herself back in the academy. Jane enjoyed it, but she still felt she was not completely happy, she was really missing being a Detective with the stories Frost and Frankie discussed about their closed cases and chasing down suspects.
The twins absolutely loved hearing Jane's stories at training. They were kind of nervous about starting school so Jane and Maura promised after shopping went well they'd go at for ice cream. Todd was able to walk again which was a huge relief to everyone who helped out, it was tiring taking care of an injured kid.
So now they were at an ice cream parlor, the kids enjoying their ice cream sundaes. Jane and Maura chose to go with Italian ices since Jane had a problem with holding down anything that was dairy lately. She was about 8 weeks along now, the morning sickness seemed to be a little more than it normally was. Jane grumbled only having a few bites of her Italian ice before pushing it away.
"Jane, is everything alright?" Maura asked her wife in concern.
"Yeah I'm just, not really feeling this like I thought."
"Well the twins are almost done with their ice cream and then we can go home and you can get some rest."
Jane rubbed her temples and nodded, "Yeah, that sounds like a good idea, I'll be right back," she pushed herself away from the table and headed to the bathroom.
The twins looked at each other before turning to Maura, "Is Jane going to be alright?" Kate asked and Maura shrugged.
"I surely hope so. Just hurry with your ice cream so we can take her home, but don't eat it too fast, you'll get brain freeze."
They nodded their heads and finished their ice cream before Jane came back. "Well that's always so much fun," she drank some water and Maura sighed.
"I'm sorry you're not feeling well, sweetie," she rested her hand on Jane's thigh, giving it a pat.
"You don't have to apologize, I'm the one who wanted to do this. I'll be better once I get some rest, all that walking was pretty exhausting."
Little did any of them know was there was something waiting for them when they got home, so Jane's plans to relax were ruined. Jane looked out the window and frowned, seeing multiple cars she recognized in the neighborhood.
"Today? Ma picks today to do this?"
"Do what?" Kate asked looking out the window.
"I thought she decided to just wait for the baby shower in a couple of months." Maura sighed, of course Angela would do something like this.
"Tell Ma we're taking the kids out for shopping and she decides Hey I'll throw this little surprise I knew my daughter didn't want," Jane unbuckled her seat belt, stepping out of the car with the others. "Looks like Constance is here, I told you Ma would find a way to get her to come out."
"That is very surprising indeed, considering how long it's been since we've last had a conversation," Maura took the twins by the hands but they immediately rushed away towards the door when Cailin came out.
"She looks as thrilled as I do about this..." Jane observed as Cailin made eye contact with her and quickly looked away. "Too bad for resting."
"You can always go in the guest house to get some rest."
"Yeah, I'll keep that in mind if it becomes too much. Don't want to be rude and leave my wife with all the guests. I do plan to scold my mother though." Jane shook her head as they walked towards the house.
"Jane, Maura, hey... congratulations on the pregnancy, how does it feel?" Cailin asked.
"It's alright, minus the morning sickness."
"Cailin, you said there was cake..." Todd interrupted, tugging on her hand, slightly pouting.
"Yeah of course there's cake, but it's not meant for eating yet. But my mother did bring you two something, come on I'll show you," she led them into the house, Jane and Maura in tow being greeted first by Tommy, who didn't look happy.
"Hey Jane, so Ma had an idea... like she always has... you know how this weekend I was supposed to get married to Barry, well I had sort of forgotten to cancel the food since I had hopes the wedding would still happen... and Ma decided to bring it all here so just letting you know that's why the cake looks like a wedding cake. I had to take off those stupid little people on top... anyways so it's kind of bumming Frost out, he hasn't come out of the guest house. Won't even talk to me."
Jane listened to her brother talk and patted his shoulder, "I'll go check up on him for you... anything to avoid this shindig my mother prepared."
"Yeah Ma was so excited not having to prepare food for this thing, gave her less stress she says."
"Always looking on the brightside mother is," Jane rolled her eyes. "Oblivious to the fact it hurts you. Hang in there bro." Jane left to go to the guest house and as soon as she left Constance came over to Maura.
"Darling, it's so nice to see you, where has Jane gone off to?" she asked, kissing both of her daughter's cheeks.
"She went to go talk to Frost."
"Oh well I think that's a great idea, he looked really down, so we have so much to catch up on..."
"You know if you tried to talk to me more it wouldn't be so long in-between conversations," Maura resisted against the sudden urge to roll her eyes.
"I know darling, I'm sorry I just things are pretty busy and I'll try harder."
"No offense mother, but you always say that and you never do. I send you texts every now and again and it's almost days before you respond," Maura sighed. "I wish you could try just a little bit harder. I need to go find Hope if you don't mind," she walked past Constance and Tommy glanced at the woman and shrugged.
"You know, I wouldn't mind having a mother that wasn't so involved. Don't take it to heart," he smiled in reassurance and Constance just sighed.
Maura found Hope talking to Angela in the dining room, as Korsak was in the living room with Susie, Frankie and Kent as he held onto baby Julian when they were watching sports.
The older women stopped their conversation when they noticed Maura approach. "Maura, where's Janie? Did she like the surprise?" Angela asked.
"Um she went to talk to Barry, apparently he was down and Tommy asked Jane to help. Hope, Cailin told me you got the twins something."
"Yes I did as a matter of fact, Ron is outside with Cailin helping them put on knee and elbow pads and their helmets. I got them bikes, figured they didn't have any and with their birthday in a few weeks I wanted to give them something."
"Well that's really very nice of you mother I'm sure they will enjoy those, and by the way who is Ron?" Maura asked, she couldn't help but notice Angela smirked.
"The silver fox she managed to snag up you mean?"
"Ron is a man I met a while ago and we sort of started seeing each other, Cailin really seems to like him, so that's going well. He has some grandkids so the bikes are sort of hand-me downs."
"Oh, well I'm glad that you found a great man for yourself. And he treats you right?"
Hope smirked and nodded, "Oh he treats me very well."
"Looks and personality, that's what I like in a man," Angela inputted before blushing. "Just like I have a great partner in Vince, Hope now has hers."
"Well I'm very happy for you Hope." Maura smiled, before turning to Angela. "Just don't let Vince or Jane hear you talking like that."
Meanwhile in the guest house, after meeting this Ron guy outside, Jane joined Frost on the couch, he was holding those little figures that she assumed were on the cake Tommy took them off of.
"Hey Frost, Tommy told me you were in here hiding."
"I'm not hiding Jane, just sitting where it's quiet. Your mother decided to throw your little my Janie's pregnant thing," Frost looked down. "Apparently I was supposed to get married to Tommy today."
Jane nodded, "Yeah, you were, but things change and you and Tommy seem to be doing alright these days."
"I just can't help but feel bad, I bet this was something both him and I were looking forward to, I mean he had hopes things would be okay he forgot to cancel the catering. I hate that I don't remember how happy we were, how happy that he knew things were."
"It shouldn't matter. What matters is that you are both happy now, that you guys have this connection, the same feelings, just timewise things have changed. You still love him and you guys still enjoy each other's company, I see how happy he is with you, I know he's struggling with everything but he's holding himself together really well."
"That's the thing Jane, he's still struggling. I've decided that I'm not going to remember how things were between us, and that's always going to hurt him, and I don't know how to fix that. I do love him Jane, that I know and seeing Frankie happy with Susie it helps me not think about him, how I know I used to."
"Well that's a good thing, that you don't have thoughts about Frankie, does Tommy know?"
"Yeah I told him, he was very relieved telling me he was sort of afraid I'd find my way back to Frankie. I know Tommy is the one for me, I love being with him, it gives me so much joy, it kind of overpowers the feeling of being upset of not being able to remember." Frost sighed, "I bet our wedding day would be pretty amazing, too bad that's not going to happen."
Jane glanced at her friend, "Just because it's not happening today, doesn't mean it won't ever happen. You guys love each other and things being different shouldn't change that."
Frost listened to Jane talk and nodded, "He's been very patient with me Jane, it's so great, he takes me to my therapy, he does anything he can to put a smile on my face, he really is incredible Jane, never thought that would happen, you know when Tommy and I started out it was kind of nerve-wracking he made me feel warm inside and it was so confusing and I was so scared to tell you about it. I'm glad you took it well."
"I must admit it was hard at first imagining Tommy with a guy, but I knew how amazing you were and Tommy definitely changed a lot since the beginning. You guys really were meant to be together," Jane smiled taking one of the figures out of Frost's hand. "Maybe we can do something with these little men."
"Like what?" Frost looked up at Jane in confusion.
"A nice exercise, you pretend this is real life Tommy and you want to have a conversation with him. I'll play my brother and you be you of course."
"Seriously Jane?"
"Don't talk to me, talk to Tommy," Jane smiled, "Come on, just do it."
"I don't know what the point of this is Jane."
"It's to help you talk to Tommy about your feelings without him actually being here in the moment. I know you played with action figures bet you roleplayed tons of times."
"Yeah Jane, they were superheroes, we used them to have battles with the enemy, not intimate conversations."
"I promise it will help, I'll start then," Jane held up the figure that looked like Tommy. "Hey Barry, how are you doing?"
Frost frowned, "Jane..."
"Come on Frost work with me here."
"Fine..." he lifted up his figure. "Hi Tommy, honestly I could be better, I know you were... well we were probably excited for our wedding day before this whole accident happened."
"We were very excited but things change and that's okay. No matter the timeline I still love you and I always will. You mean everything to me Barry and we're together and that's what I want, is to be together for a really long time. No matter what happens I'm always going to be by your side."
"You've been so patient with me and this recovery Tommy, things don't seem forced, we've fallen into this pattern and I look at you everyday knowing you're the man I want to always be with. I know we're not getting married today but one day I think it'll happen for us. One day I want to be your husband," he spoke, tears building up in his eyes. "I love you so much Tommy Rizzoli and I do want to spend the rest of my life with you it just won't happen in the time that we thought, that you thought..." he paused, gripping the figurine.
"I love you too Barry Frost and what you just said... I want it too, of course I want to marry you no matter the time, no matter the place I plan to spend the rest of our lives loving you like I never loved anyone before. You make me whole Barry and I'm never going to give up on us, I'd lose myself if I ever lost you completely."
Frost looked up at Jane, smiling softly, wiping the tears that fell down his cheeks before grabbing the figures placing them on the table and giving his best friend a hug. "I love him so much Jane, I don't want to be without him."
"You're not without him Frost, he's there whenever you need him, just... I think you realize what you want to do. And I'm so proud of you."
"Thanks Jane, maybe your silly exercise... I should have given it more credit."
"It was silly I know, but we got your feelings out there and that's amazing."
"You probably make a very good life coach Jane, glad you are so willing to help people, to help me."
"Frost, you're like the brother I always wanted. I'd do anything to help make you happy, even role-playing with little cake toppers to get you to speak your mind," Jane pulled away, placing a hand on his cheek. "I'm so proud of you Frost."
"Thanks Jane, I feel much better than I was feeling, moping around was getting me nowhere," he got up from the couch and went to go shuffle through the drawer where some of his stuff was. "You know the other day Tommy gave me his engagement ring to let me hold onto it for safe keeping, I think our exercise has made me realize that just because I can't remember some things, doesn't mean I have to feel like all hope is lost. I think what I want to do right now is let Tommy know how much I love him and want to be with him," he pulled out the small box shoving it into his pocket. "Let's go."
"You know my house is filled with a lot of people."
"And I know how much you didn't want a Jane's pregnant party, I think I'll definitely switch that around. Don't forget the little Frost and Tommy toppers."
Jane nodded, getting off the couch and shoved the little men in her pocket, following him back into the house. Frost made eye contact with Tommy and the Rizzoli smiled at him walking over.
"Hey Barry, you finally wanted to join the party?"
"Yeah, I wanted to talk to you about something, actually I wanted to do something. Jane and I had a talk and it really did me some good, got my emotions out there," Frost took Tommy's hands in his, giving them a squeeze. "I know today was the day we were supposed to get married and I know how bummed you might be about that, but today doesn't have to be a day that we're sad over. Today can still be a day that you want to remember. I have come to realize that I shouldn't be upset, hiding away from the man I love because I'm embarrassed that things have turned out not how you remember. Saddened by the fact you're hurting that we're not getting married today, that today was a day we were probably both looking forward to before my accident. But this doesn't have to be a day that hope is lost, it's a moment where hope will be restored. I love how you've been here for me after the accident, trying to help me feel okay, you've been by my side the whole time and I'm so grateful, so lucky that I have an amazing guy to love me no matter what, no matter what obstacles come in our way. I look at you and I know in my heart that you're it, you're the one for me and no matter the time or place I know that I want to be your husband," Frost spoke with tears in his eyes, Tommy's eyes were watery and it made Frost's heart skip a beat as he went to get down on his knee. "I want to spend the rest of my life with you Tommy Rizzoli, I don't want us to be down today, I want to celebrate our love, celebrate that I want to be with you, and only you," he moved one hand to grab the small box out of his pocket, opening it with a smile. "Tommy Rizzoli, will you do the honor of becoming my fiancé? Will you accept my proposal?"
Tommy wiped his eyes and nodded, "Of course Barry, of course I'll accept your proposal," he smiled as Frost slid his engagement ring on Tommy's finger before he stood up and kissing him like no one else was in the room. They both pulled away when they heard clapping, both cheeks flushing.
Jane patted her friend on the back, "Frost that was beautiful, I knew things would work out. Tommy you got an amazing guy here."
"Don't I know it," Tommy grinned, pulling Frost in for another kiss before everyone went to go congratulate them.
Jane dug into her pocket and put the toppers on the cake before glancing over at her smiling wife in the kitchen, going to join her. "So, Frost and I had a nice talk and now everyone is focused on them..." Jane leaned against the counter, smiling proudly. "Attention is off of us and Frost has the biggest damn smile on his face, I consider that a job well done. Now I can go upstairs and get some rest, care to join me?"
Maura smirked at her wife, "Well I'm glad for whatever push you gave to Frost, they both look ecstatic. I could definitely use some rest though," she took her wife by the hand and they were able to go upstairs unnoticed. They went in their bedroom, closing the door, Jane laid down on her back, hands on her stomach, Maura joining her, laying on her side, smiling at her wife, "Are we having a sleepover or is this your way of telling me you're attracted to me?" she asked in a whisper, pushing the hair out of Jane's face.
Jane turned her head to smirk at Maura, remembering the first time they ever shared a bed together. "Seriously?"
Maura nodded, "I knew you'd like that, that was sort of a missed opportunity wasn't it?"
"It definitely was, imagine all the nights we could have shared a bed and did a little bit more than just sleeping if moves were made that night."
"I think we definitely made up for all that lost time by now, but to be honest you would have probably freaked out if I did so back then."
"Probably yeah, but we don't have to worry about that now," she shifted onto her side, taking Maura's hand in hers, kissing her fingers. "I'm always so accepting of your kisses."
"That's totally true," Maura nudged her nose against Jane's cheek before moving in for a kiss. Jane smiled into it, pulling Maura in closer by the hip, stroking her hipbone, causing her wife to hum softly.
Jane pulled back slightly for some air, going to lean in for another when there was a knock on the door and Angela's voice was heard, "Girls, it's time for food."
"Ma! Come on I'm sure you realize what a closed door means."
"May I remind you Jane that you're pregnant and it's very important that you eat actual food not..."
"Oh my God Ma!" Jane shouted, "Don't even finish that sentence, we'll be down in a minute, just go away," Jane huffed in frustration.
"Okay I'm going, you better be down and Maura don't let my daughter distract you."
"Yes Angela," Maura sat up in the bed, kissing Jane's shoulder. "She sure has a way of ruining moments."
"That she does," Jane got out of bed, grabbing Maura by the hand, helping her up. "This is why I avoided ever bringing boyfriend's home when I was younger... or avoided having boyfriend's in general. I seen how she was when Frankie brought girls home and it definitely turned me off from having relationships."
"I'm sure that's the only reason," Maura teased and Jane gave her wife a nudge as they went downstairs and joined the others for food.
Hours had passed and the house was emptied out, Frost had decided he would go back to live with Tommy since they were engaged now and he told Jane that he would be okay and she smiled knowing that this would be just fine for them. Plus she was more than ready to sanitize that couch. The twins were getting ready for bed with the help of Maura and Jane decided she would go feed Chad, not prepared to what she would be walking into.
"Frankie!" Jane shouted, Frankie jumped up zipping up his pants, as Susie slid to hide underneath the blanket to readjust herself.
"Jane! What the hell, can't you knock?"
"It's my guest house and I didn't know you were still here. Why does everyone want to have sex on my couch? Couldn't you wait until you got home to..." Jane gestured to Susie.
"Sorry Jane alright, it wasn't planned it just... happened," he turned to his girlfriend on the couch who finally came out from beneath the blanket, fixing her hair.
"Jane I'm sorry I didn't..." Susie sat up, feeling embarrassed. "He wanted to lock the door but I didn't think you'd be coming out here. Kind of got carried away."
Frankie ran a hand through her hair, "Yeah I'm sorry Jane for startling you... and doing things on your couch it just..."
"I get it okay, you don't have to tell me the details, I'd prefer to not hear them. I just wanted to come out and feed my tortoise."
"We actually took care of Chad for you Jane, the whole reason we came out here. I think I'm going to see if Maura wants to join me for a drink of tea, want something Frankie?"
"No I'm good, kind of lost my appetite."
Susie nodded and rushed out of the guest house, closing the door behind her.
"I don't even want to know how feeding Chad turned into..." Jane rubbed at her forehead.
"Susie told me that she loved me, I said it back. And then we got to talking about how Frost and Tommy are engaged again and how amazing love was and she brought up liking the idea that one day I'd want to marry her, sweep her off her feet and make her the luckiest woman, I said why not let it happen now, me sweeping her off her feet and all of that. I asked how does Mrs. Susie Rizzoli sound and she liked the sound of that amongst other things and then it happened... and then you came in scaring the shit out of me."
Jane listened to Frankie explain himself and she looked at him in shock. "Isn't it a little too soon for you to be talking about marrying Susie? Remember when you got carried away and eloped with Crowe and then you regretted it getting an annulment the next day."
"Yeah, your point? Susie makes me happier than I ever been... I would be crazy not to want to marry Susie, she's smart, cute, incredibly sexy and she gets me doesn't expect me to be anything other than me."
"I just want you to think before you jump into things. You have a habit of doing just that. It worries me sometimes."
Frankie sat on the couch, "Jane, I know what you're doing, it's not going to work."
"I'm not trying to make you unhappy I just want you to think about it before jumping head first in the shallow end of the pool. I don't want to worry about you."
"You don't need to Jane, I'm really sure about this Jane, it's not like we're getting married tomorrow just it's nice to think about a future where everything seems so sure, so right. I'm not making a mistake and there's absolutely no doubt in my mind that Susie is my person. Just like Tommy's person is Frost and your person is Maura. My person is Susie Chang and I haven't felt more sure of anything. I got this taken care of Jane, I swear. Plus when we were helping Korsak with baby Julian this afternoon it was nice, seeing Susie so natural with him... and no I'm not wanting to have a child anytime soon, now that would be pushing it just a tad. Just saying that today I seen a side of Susie that I found myself falling for. Not everyone falls in love at the same pace, but when you know, you really know. Please be happy for me."
"Of course I'm happy that you're happy, I just wanted to make sure you knew what you were doing. Making sure you have your head on straight, Susie's an amazing person and I'm glad you were able to find each other, lonely people get their happy endings too," Jane pulled her brother into a hug. "I must admit seeing you two doing not so innocent things sort of freaked me out, I like to think you're the most innocent out of us Rizzolis and I definitely never planned to see a naked Susie Chang beneath my brother," Jane scrunched up her face. "Please keep it in your pants whenever you're at my house, can you do that?"
"I was embarrassed too you know, it won't happen again, I swear it, you know I'm kind of thirsty for some tea now, we should go join our special ladies, don't you think?"
Jane nodded, "Yeah let's go, I'm going to need some therapy to get over what I seen though."
"Okay Jane, now you're just being over dramatic," Frankie shook his head as they went back into the main house. "I can even buy you a new couch, it's kind of comfy the one you have, it could be like a nice you're playing house with my brother Susie have this amazing couch in your humble abode kind of gift."
"Playing house?" Jane asked and Frankie nodded.
"Have to make sure living together goes well if me and Susie really want to be married, see I'm not jumping into the shallow end I'm sort of wading through it. One day at a time but knowing the destination."
"I'll happily give you guys the couch then because I was going to burn the damn thing after today."
Maura and Susie looked up from their conversation as they heard the two Rizzolis enter the house. "You were going to burn what thing Jane?"
"The couch I found these two getting it on at, Frankie is going to take it off of our hands."
"Do I even want to know?" Maura eyed her wife and Jane shook her head.
"No, you definitely don't. Me and Frankie had a nice conversation though, thanks Susie for making my brother happy, very happy. Looks like everything is falling into place. All the Rizzoli children have their soulmates, Ma will be so proud," Jane grabbed herself and Frankie a cup, pouring the tea into it, sliding one over to her brother. "To love and happiness for us all," she lifted her cup, tapping it with the others, sending a wink to her wife, who winked back.
Love is in the air for the Rizzoli siblings, such a great thing isn't it? I really did love writing Frost/Jane's friendship scene with the wedding cake toppers. Frost and Tommy are engaged again and everyone is happy and relieved by that happy reunion, Frankie starting to have a clearer sight on his future, not being such an indecisive mess. Their relationships make me happy and I'm glad they get their happiness since Rizzles got theirs. Did you like the "Are we having a sleepover" line I put in from the show between our girls the moment the Rizzles fanbase became a thing. Too bad Angela interrupted, (Jane's reaction made me want to watch the show again lol) I've been really neglecting the Korsak/Angela storyline, they're sort of on the backburner, I had an idea spark for them while writing this chapter though, so they'll get some time in future chapters, soon actually, wanted to get the siblings and their stuff all situated first. A little bigger time jump will happen when the next chapter is posted. I have plans of Jane's pregnancy storyline I want to get to that I'm sure you'll enjoy.
