Conversations on a Balcony

A/N: Hi Lovelies… just so you know, I'm taking a vacation and driving to Florida. I'm bringing my laptop with me so I may post during that time, but don't be surprised if I don't. I might just spend some time getting drunk by the pool. HAHA!

Cat was lying on the living room balcony, Abby squeezed in between her side and the back of the couch, while Liv lay face down on her chest. They were all asleep.

It had been a long afternoon and evening of playing and picnicking at the park. When they got home, after bathing Liv in her little tub and then taking a shower with Abby, Cat lay them all down to read a story before bed. The kids had lasted four pages and Cat had dozed off soon after.

Supergirl was out patrolling. She was high up in the atmosphere, hovering vertically with her eyes closed as she listened to sounds from all over Earth. Usually, she was more focused on National City, but with Clark and Lois visiting Argo with the twins, she was kind of picking up the slack.

Then she heard something and two seconds later, she was landing on the penthouse balcony, grinning at the adorableness of her family and kissing Cat awake.

"Wh… Kara?" the older woman said sleepily.

"Shhh…" the hero replied very softly as she kissed Abby's and then Liv's heads. "I have to go to China. They've just been hit by an earthquake."

"Be careful," Cat whispered in reply. Kara pecked her wife's lips and nodded, then shot away with enough thrust to make the balcony tremble. Eighty-four seconds later, she was slamming into the already cratered ground in a small town and looking around at the damage. Then she super sped to a five-story building and rose into the air to catch it as it was toppling over.

"Get those people out of the way," she yelled at the firefighters and then shook her head as she realized they didn't understand her. She switched to Chinese. "感动那些人!"

They nodded and cleared the street, so she very gently laid the building down. Then she went inside and searched it, pulling out anyone she could find alive and leaving the bodies for later. Then she was on the move again, speeding, catching, lifting, searching, fixing, carrying, at speeds that made her blurry to the eyes, then she stopped and approached an important looking man with a fire helmet. "主席先生,我还能做什么?" she asked, still looking around her.

"Supergirl, I speak English," the man replied. "And you've already done so much. Rest and eat for a few minutes."

"Thank you, Sir, but I can't. If there's nothing more I can do here, I need to move on to the next town."

"Then I thank you for your help. Please go and help others." He bowed deeply and Kara returned the gesture before shooting away.

It went on like that for five days. Supergirl moved from town to town, helping where she could, but unfortunately, at the end of day five, her rescues had become more recovery of bodies than actual saves. When it got to the stage where her super hearing couldn't pick up any more survivors, she made the difficult decision to go home and let the Chinese people take care of the rest.

It was the evening of the fifth day on the west coast of the United States, when the hero, filthy and heavy-hearted, landed on the penthouse's bedroom balcony to find Cat and the kids playing in the hot tub.

"Hi, Baby," Cat said gently and Kara moved around the tub to kneel next to her and simply rest her head on her shoulder. "Are you ok?" her wife asked.

"No," Kara whispered. "Not even a little. Cat, it was…" Tears spilled down her cheeks as she tried to choke back a sob. "So awful. So many people died… children…"

Cat kissed her forehead. "Go get out of the suit and get in the shower while I take care of the kids and put them to bed. Then I want to hold you."

The younger woman nodded and slowly got to her feet to drop a kiss on each of her daughter's cheeks. "/ieiu/, you smell bad," Abby said, wrinkling her nose.

"I'm aware," the hero chuckled softly. "I'm going to get cleaned up right now."

Thirty minutes later, kids in bed, Cat carried a six pack of beer and four large pizzas into the bedroom and set them on Kara's nightstand. Moments later, the Kryptonian strolled out of the bathroom, wrapped in one towel and ruffling another through her hair. She immediately saw the pizzas and groaned softly. "Thank you so much, Cat-El."

"When was the last time you ate?" the older woman asked.

"I have no fucking idea," Kara replied as she dropped her towel and slid into bed with her naked wife. "There was so much to do, I just couldn't stop."

"C'mere," Cat said softly, patting her own chest. The hero scooted closer, relaxing back against her wife as she opened one of the pizzas and pulled out a slice. The groan she made this time, as she chewed and swallowed, was one of ecstasy and Cat chuckled as she let her hands gently massage Kara's shoulders. "Enjoying it?"

"Mmmm," Kara replied, her mouth full to bursting as she offered a slice. "Mamt sfome?"

"No, thank you. I already ate." Just then, Kara's phone rang with Alex's ringtone from where she'd left it in the bathroom. "Want me to get it for you?"

"No, it's ok," the hero replied with a smile. "I'll just listen in." She focused her hearing across town and listened as Alex recorded her message, but she sucked in a breath and her eyes widened as she looked over her shoulder at Cat. Then she quickly got out of bed and went to retrieve her phone. She immediately called Alex back and put her on speaker. "Alex," she said as her sister picked up. "I have Cat with me. Tell us again what you left in the message just now."

"Well," the director said. "I was having a conversation with Brainy about how we could rewrite Cat's DNA to make her a Kryptonian while in the future… Cat, don't ask… and Brainy just casually drops into the chat, as he does, that it would be so much easier if we just had a molecule chamber."

"Did you shit yourself?" Kara laughed.

"Not quite," Alex laughed in return. "But oh my God, Kara."

Cat was frowning. "Ok… help the technologically challenged kid catch up please?"

"Cat-El," Kara said softly. "A molecule chamber is a Kryptonian device that can heal and change biological entities on a cellular level or, in this case, at the DNA level. We could use it to rewrite your DNA and make you Kryptonian… if that's what you wanted. I think it would extend your life indefinitely… just like mine."

Cat blinked and then shook her head… then blinked again. "Are you serious?"

"Very," Alex said. "But there's a challenge."

"And what's that?" the older blonde asked.

"The chamber at the Fortress was damaged years ago," Kara replied. "Clark wasn't able to fix it."

"But NOW," Alex added. "We have a twelfth level intellect among us, who's pretty good at fixing things."

"Is this… is this possible? Can we do this?" Cat asked shakily, looking into her wife's eyes.

"If we can repair the chamber, we can," the hero said gently. "But only if you're absolutely sure it's what you want, Baby."

Alex waited for a moment, but she was about to say something when she heard kissy noises come through the line. "I… take it that's a yes?" she said.

"Mmmm…" Kara and Cat said at the same time, not breaking their kiss.

"I'll get Brainy on it then," the director laughed and then hung up the line.

"Will I get powers?" Cat asked softly as they parted and looked into each other's eyes.

"We have a lot to talk about, Cat," the hero replied. "But yes, you'll have powers like mine and when you come out of the chamber, you'll have to be so careful around the kids until you learn how to control them. Understand? This might not be easy, /zrhemin/."

"Kara," the older woman replied. "I'll do anything for more time with you and our children. And before you ask again, yes, I'm ABSOLUTELY sure it's what I want."

The hero nodded and cupped Cat's cheeks to kiss her again. "Then let's hope Brainy can fix the chamber." She snuggled against her wife again and went back to her pizza.

Tomorrow, she would go to the Fortress with her Coluan friend and see what she could do to help.
