World 109: Solving the Uncertainty Principle
"So what are we supposed to do right now. Sit on our hands and watch the old fart play his game?" Some of the more impatient Millennium duelists were looking for a fight of their own, yet here they were trying to approach the obelisk as carefully and slowly as possible. "If you mess this up, Kremlore, than you're gonna get kicked out of the team. I am the only one who can can get us inside, remember? Plus we have to wait for everyone to be in synch anyway." When they finally got close enough to touch the construct, Cherry Anise used her own unique avatar to slide her hand right through the walls. "Ah cool. Its hollow." She could sense an end to the wall, which meant that she would not have to concentrate the whole time. "But why are we starting at the bottom? And why is it just us?" Kremlore complained again. Cherry's team consisted of a handful of duelists, while many remained in waiting outside of Continuum's range. "Because that was the plan and we follow that. I know you arent used to that, but sometimes it can be a good idea."
Cherry realized how good that idea really was when every other Obelisk infiltration team received the alert that they could go inside. Much like her, they also now had a member who could bypass the Obelisks defenses due to avatar modifications Vigionaire and Lilah made with the technology from Renner's facility. "What the?" Once she got inside, she discovered a new kind of hell. "Gah!" White hallways formed the inside of the Obelisk, and they were teeming with bright near seizure inducing lights and nausea-inducing twisting distortions. "Use the filter!" Lorelei shouted. Their intagibility did not protect them from the illusions, but a quick adjustment of their optical sensors would. "Okay, barf I am starting to get an idea which Item this tower is guarding." Cherry would recognize the handiwork of the World Lance anywhere. "Just my luck really. Ezra keeps haunting me. Is everyone else's Obelisk guarded like this too?" She called in to see how the others were doing..
She only got dead air. "Great, we're cut off." Kremlore whined. "We still stick to the plan! If you want to run, run. But we're going up." Cherry would check the Obelisk level by level if she had to find the lance and destroy doing do would bring her great pleasure.

-TURN 04-
Back at the duel, Vigionaire's link with the other teams broke off from his end as well. But his expression remained stoic to not betray their progress. Continuum focused only on him still. In its next turn the entity called out its next monster, a white-haired one-horned dragon called Metaphys Ragnarok(4/1500/1000) [Zone 3]. "Teraxatron's card?" The encrypter immediately flashed back to Crescent's duel with the Metaphys duelist... in Scarlet Fever's laboratory. "Yes. You might have gathered that he was my first test subject. I used Continuums power on him, which made him the duelist you saw and sadly overpowered. It proved to me that we humans are still too fallible. Continuum needed a better host." The card's effect would still be the same of course: Ragnarok banished the top two cards (Raigeki, Batteryman Solar) from the deck. Teraxatron would have used it to add more Metaphys cards to her hand. Continuum only cared about banishing more monsters. "Four counters.." The Chaos Zone field spell used up its 4 accumulated Chaos counters, to special summon one level 4 DARK or LIGHT monster from the other dimension. It chose the winged witch Chaos Valkyria(4/1850/1150) [Zone 5] who flew in via a space wormhole.
"You used him as a labrat?" Vigionair expressed his disgust. "You are no better than Static was." Hearing her talk like this, reminded him of how Static used Asterisk for his own experiments. "He made me that way yes. But I see myself much like these cards, a mixture of light and darkness." The woman laughed. Continuum in turn started up a synchro summon. "Hm?" It almost skipped Vigionaire's mind that Metaphys Ragnarok was a tuner. It used itself and Chaos Valkyria as the synchro materials for a far bigger monster: a grey devil-dragon(8/3000/2500) [Extra Zone 2] with purple wings and bloodred spikes. "Chaos Ruler Dragon excavates the top five cards of the deck, and adds one of those five cards to the hand. The rest are discarded." Behind the dragons shoulders a red ring protruded from the left to the right. Five cards materialized in front of that red ring: Thunder Dragon Fusion, Thunder Dragon, Chaos Space, Chaos Daedalus and Instant Fusion. Continuum kept the Chaos Daedalus card and discarded the rest.
"Chaos Daedalus. That is going to be a problem.. Sol Flare Dragon can destroy one a special summoned monster by discarding one Galaxy and Photon monster from my hand! I will use this effect on Chaos Ruler Dragon!" Vigionaire could not let himself be caught off guard again. If he slept on this, Daedalus would ruin his entire defense. The Dragon of the solar flare focused the suns heat through a narrow beam which ignited Chaos Ruler Dragon and set it on flame. "A nice idea, Vigionair. But ultimately futile. Chaos Ruler Dragon can revive itself by banishing one light and dark monster from the graveyard. You did know this, didn't you?" The Synchronic dragon banished both the LIGHT Chaos Valkyria and the DARK Chaos Dragon Levianeer, and dispelled the flames that were almost done eating away at its body to regenerate into a new pristine form(8/3000/2500) [Zone 3]. Banishing Chaos Valkyria again allowed the entity to send another LIGHT or DARK monster to the graveyard. Though that card's effects could not be used that turn. They sent a DARK monster: Aloof Lupine.
"And I can do the same for Chaos Daedalus." One more chaotic pair of light (Chaos Grepher) and darkness (Thunder Dragondark) left the graveyard. This time their mixture recreated the seaserpent Daedalus(7/2600/1500) [Zone 3] of the sea; the same one that the Metaphys painted white now displayed hellish black armor, crimson eyes and bone-white curves horns. Banishing the Dragondark monster further allowed her to add another Thunder Dragon card from the deck to her hand. She selected Thunder Dragonroar. "You were right to act either way of course. Chaos Daedalus prevents effects from targeting Light or Dark monsters while its master controls a field spell. And that same stipulation enables its other effect: banishing cards equal to the number of active field spells."
"But first let's remove some parameters." Continuum suddenly moved into its battle phase. Chaos Daedalus opened its wide jaws and crawled across the floor to reach the Starliege Photon Blast Dragon(R4/1800/1500) [Zone 3]. "That is how it's going to be? If you insist! Starliege activates his effect!" Vigionair detached one XYZ-material from his doomed XYZ-monster, which would let him special summon Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon(8/3000/2500) [Zone 2] back to the field in attack mode. V would have no use for his Blast Dragon after that. "Continuum does not have many desires. But it gets what it wants." The chaotic seaserpent did not have much use for it either, other than a quick meal to tear apart. Cosmic Flare Dragon died just as quickly, crushed between the two claws of the Chaos ruling dragon.
Vigionaire's LP: 7000
"Of course. I would not mention an ability if we did not plan to use it." Now in the second main phase, Continuum chose its victim. Chaos Daedalus targeted the Galactic eyed dragon, and banished it in a way that it did not want to be.. permanently. Continuum gave the dragon about as much attention as it did any other card. Already it moved on to its next move: activating the Chaos Space spell in the graveyard. It could return one banished DARK/LIGHT monster (Thunder Dragondark) to the deck, and draw another card from that deck.
At this time, one team returned to the audio link with an urgent call. "Hey Lilah, V! We have a bit of a problem here! The Obelisk is going crazy in there!" Jenna described the situation to the best of her abilities. And while she came for Rose's help, he could also hear the entire conversation. "Vigionair is somewhat occupied right now. What do you mean by 'crazy'? Is the layout different from what we estimated?" As it turned the entire team had to retreat from the Obelisk to report some setbacks. "The place is bigger on the inside, and it seems to loop on forever like a moebius strip. I believe the World Shield is powering this tower's defense systems somehow." Charles gave a more accurate summary. "You mean that the Obelisk is tapping into the abilities of each item? That is possible. But I do not think that would be their only function. Still, V's modifications should be able to counteract most of these defense systems. And in your case, you may need to remain intangible to bypass the spatial traps." Lilah advised, and Vigionaire agreed with that theory in silence.
"You seem a little distracted, V." Because if he agreed verbally, Scarlet Fever would be able to thwart their entire mission. "I was just planning some long term combinations." He tried to bluff his way out. "Oh come now. You do not have to pretend, V. I know you did not come alone. And I know your friends are trying to infiltrate the Obelisk right now. They will find its defenses more than just a little tenacious. I also know you're communicating with them right now. I may not be able to see the transmissions, but I do not need raw data to make such guesses." She laughed in his face once again. "Is that's so, then why humor me with this duel at all? You may have caught on now, but we took you by surprise at first I bet!" Vigionaire countered. "I still know what respect is, Vigionair. Your knowledge and wisdom are of great importance to Continuum. You survived this turn because of that..." Continuum ended its turn by activating Allure of Darkness, banishing the Thunder Dragonroar in its hand to draw two new cards. The banished Dragonroar then special summoned a new Thunder Dragon from the deck, the previously returned Thunder Dragondark(5/1600/0). "But the numbers are not in your favor otherwise." Two trap cards were placed face down, and the turn ended.
-TURN 05-
"Well if it likes Numbers so much, I'll give some to him. I activate the Nebula Dragon in my hand! It special summons itself and one other level eight dragon with their powers negated!" The Nebula Dragon(8/2000/0) [Zone 3] owed its name to the stellar clouds kept its limbless body afloat. Golden plates, red fangs and azure hair further added color to this bright yellow dragon. And it did not descend alone, it special summoned a thin serpent dragon(8/2500/2500) [Zone 4] with long purple hair and a coiled strand inside its transparent spiraling body. "This is Galactic Spiral Dragon! I will use him and Nebula Dragon as dragon link materials for Galaxy Satellite Dragon!" Only dragons could be summoned during the turn Nebula Dragon appeared, which ruled out some cards inside Vigionaire's extra deck. Galaxy Satellite Dragon: a mechanical black dragon(2000/LINK 2) {Downleft/Downright} [Extra Zone 2] with four satellite wings and two railgun cannon arms, was not one of them.
"Uh, thats not a number." Jenna suddenly pointed out over the communicator. "Tch. Are you watching me now? Don't you have anything better to do?" He snapped back, figuring that it did not matter anymore if Scarlet overheard him. "Not really. Hydra went on ahead to inspect the Obelisk first and we're waiting on him now."
"Well do not break my concentration, I have a plan and it demands focus." Vigionaire grumbled. "First I activate Nebula Dragon from my graveyard! I can banish it, to add one level 4 Light or Dark Dragon to my hand!" The nebula would release a star: Vigionaire reclaimed the Starliege Seyfert and normal summoned the star crusading dragon(4/1800/0) [Zone 4]. "Then, when I control two light or dark dragon, I can special summon Galactic Spiral Dragon from the graveyard! And that monster can raise the levels of all other dragons to eight!" The spiral galaxy exploded back into creation as well, turning the ghostly Galactic Dragon into a merely semi-transparent dragon[Zone 5]. Its eightfold starlight could be shared with all dragons like Starliege Seyfert(8/1800/0). "Now here you go. I XYZ-summon Number ninety-seven: Draglubion!" The creatures of the cosmos created their miniature galaxy within the xyz-network, attaching themselves to a more traditional winged dragon(R8/3000/3000) [Zone 3] with a golden scalen on the front and long black hair on the back of its long grey body. "Did you just say dragonlube?" Jenna failed to resist a snicker. "Drag-lu-bion! Pay more attention to its power! It detaches one material, and targets two Numbers! One will be attached to the other which will be XYZ-summoned!"
"I choose The greatest Number! Galaxy-Eyes Tachyon Dragon and Neo Galaxy-Eyes Tachyon Dragon!" The 97th Number sent a blast of darkness into the extra deck, targeting the Number 107 and its evolution Chaosnumber 107. This way it could skip the first XYZ-summon and immediately Chaos evolve the Tachyon Dragon into Neo-Galaxy Eyes Tachyon Dragon: a gigantic mechanical three-headed dragon(R9/4500/3000) [Zone 5] made from pure gold. "Oh my." Even Scarlet Fever could not hide the astonishment in her voice. "That's quite right. No other monsters can attack when I use Draglubion's effect, except the monster Draglubion summoned. But Neo Tachyon Dragon has Tachyon Dragon attached, so it can sacrifice two monsters to make three attacks in one turn! First however, I should activate Memories of Hope. This lets me draw one card for each Number I control after all!" The encrypter drew two cards at once thanks to the spell. Then he both Draglubion and Galaxy Satellite Dragon, and used their energy to power up the left and right head of the golden dragon. "And now at last, I can I banish Galaxy Satellite Dragon!"
"Whoa. What the.. What the hell did you do?" Jenna cried out loud. The Chaos dragon(10700/3000)'s attackpower suddenly shot up to an immensely high number. "Just some simple math, miss Jenna. Galaxy Satellite Dragon can banish itself from the graveyard to make a Number's attackpower become equal to its actual Number value, times one hundred!" 100 times 107 would 10700 attackpoints. More than enough to decide a duel with one breath. "Scarlet, the chaotic numbers are coming for you! All damage is halved during a turn in which Galaxy Satellite Dragon uses its effect. But this and the next attack should still be sufficient to conclude this duel!" The first head targeted the Chaos Ruler Dragon with a massive beam of tachyon-powered light. And the beam succesfully destroyed.. a defending Ascended of Thunder. "What?!" Destroying that defending thunder god(7/2700/2400) [Zone 1] instead, caused Continuum's lifepoints to go up by 5000 instead of down.

Lightning Rod Reborn, Normal Trap Card
Special summon 1 Banished monster. If that monster leaves the field, banish it.
No other cards can be attacked or affected by your opponent's card effects while you control the special summoned monster.
"Lightning Rod?" It all happened because of a trap he did not recognize. "What? Did you think you were the only one who could create their own cards? Come now, V." Scarlet's disappointment came in loud and clear. "Ugh." The two other heads of Tachyon fired off their own light beams, and destroyed both Chaos Ruler Dragon and Chaos Daedalus utterly. The damage was still significant, but not as significant to be relevant.
Continuum's LP: 4800
"Curse it all." Not only did he have to deal with another round of Chaos onslaught now, he also ran into a decision that could not wait. Seven more monsters got banished since the last time Chaos Zone used its effect. With that many chaos counters, the field spell could bring Chaos Daedalus back all over again to banish even the mighty Neo Tachyon. On the other hand if he destroyed Chaos Zone, then Continuum could add a LIGHT or DARK monster to his hand with a level equal to or lower than the amount of chaos counters. And he would have to sacrifice pure power to do so. "One would call this a lose-lose situation." Still, one path would lead to less losses, so that would be the one to take. "I use my Tachyon Galaxy-Eyes as an XYZ-material for Galaxy-Eyes Full Armor Photon Dragon! It can detach one material to destroy one face-up card!" The three-headed gold dragon shrank down to a single-headed black dragon(R8/4000/3500) and inverted its red tachyon lighting for a photonic blue. "I destroy Chaos Zone!" Finally at least, his dragons would be freed from the chaos dimension and brought back to a normal if not muddy space. "I set two cards and end my turn!"
"A bold choice, Vigionaire." Continuum removed the field spell and used its effect to add a level 4 LIGHT monster to its hand: Radiant Vouirescence. "But I think we both know you have shown your best move now. It will all be downhill from here on in, I am affraid." Continuum revealed its trap card next: Eternal Chaos. It registered the attackpower of the strongest monster on the field and sent a DARK and LIGHT monster with a lower combined attackpower from the deck to the graveyard. Chaos Betrayer(2000 atk) and Thunder Dragonmatrix(500 atk) both scaled lower than Armored Galaxy-Eyes. "I would explain why, but Continuums actions say more than words."
-TURN 06-
The next card Continuum played, brought back many a bad memory for duelists of any era. "The Chaos Emperor Dragon?" Vigionair gasped. Even he knew about this infamous card, long since banned. This was Chaos Emperor the Dragon of Armageddon, its new pendulum incarnation. Once activated in the pendulum zone, it could unbanish one dragon monster at the cost of a 1000 lifepoints and its own life. It did so, and sent the Emperor Dragon to the extra deck to retrieve the Dragon Levianeer.
Continuum's LP: 3800
"And now it can bring them all back." As a dragon expert, Dharma could already see the next two moves play out in her head. And the field followed suit. By banishing DARK and LIGHT monsters from the graveyard, Chaos Betrayer and Chaos Emperor Dragon would special summon themselves from the graveyard and face-up extra deck respectively. Chaos Betrayer the skull-faced gargoyle(6/2000/2000) [Zone 2] in purple robes and gold bands devoured Metaphys Ragnarok and Chaos Daedalus. The silverhaired and gold-armored dark dragon of Armageddon(8/3000/2500) [Zone 4] banished Thunder Dragonmatrix and Chaos Creator. This also allowed Continuum to activate the effects of the banished Thunder Dragonmatrix, who placed a second copy of itself in Continuum's hand. "The same monsters over and over. It never ends with this guy." Jenna griped. "No. But now he has enough cards on his field, to take all of Vigionaire's away!" The dragon duelist shouted.
Before it got that far however, Continuum used its normal summon on a tiny lightgiving and plume-tailed dragon called Radiant Vouirescence(4/1600/800) [Zone 1]. By discarding one card (Thunder Dragonmatrix), the Radiant one could send two copies of itself to the graceyard: two more LIGHT monsters for the chaos pool. "I wonder if you can survive this, Vigionair. Can anyone besides Echo?" Levianeer attempted to restart its Only then did Chaos Emperor Dragon triggered its catastrophic ability by taking half of Continuums's lifepoints to send the same number of cards from both fields to the graveyard: killing itself, Chaos Betrayer, Radiant, Thunder Dragondark first.. Sending Dragondark to the graveyard also allowed It to add a new Thunder Dragoncard (Thunder Dragonduo) from the deck to the hand. Then the storm of imperial light and darkness spread across the gap and descended upon the Fully Armored Photon Dragon and his two set cards.
Continuum's LP: 1900
But Vigionair would not throw in the towel just yet. "No I actually did not forget your propensity towards custom cards, Scarlet! Because I am very much the same" He flipped both his trap cards, Double Negative and Double Cipher. "Since I have a Galaxy-Eyes XYZ-monster with an XYZ-material, Double Cipher can special summon another one with my trap!" The trap targeted the Full Armor Photon Dragon and placed its duplicate(R8/4000/3500) down in front of it in defense mode. "And Double Negative lets me make them immune to your card effect!" The chaos failed either Full Armor Photon Dragon and made only Continuums monsters die, much to Continuum's muted displeasure. "Oh? An Interesting creation. You continue to surprise me, Vigionair. It almost makes me wish I was the one dueling you."
Double Negative, Continuous Trap
While you control two monsters with the same name, they cannot be destroyed or targeted by card effects.
"Careful now, Scarlet. Continuum might start to think you're getting too emotional." Vigionair chuckled. "Not all emotion is sinful, V. Emotions allow us to be creative, they make us into better imagineers." The unseen woman retorted while the entity banished two of the Radiant Vouirescences and the Aloof Lupine from the graveyard to special summon Chaos Dragon Levianeer(8/3000/2500) [Zone 2], just to even the tide of destruction. With both light and darkness at its disposal, Levianeer could destroy the Full Armor Photon Dragons, at the cost of losing its next attack. Continuum then activated another spell, Thunder Dragon Fusion, from the graveyard. By banishing it, a thunder monster like Thunder Dragonlord could be added to the hand. Then, by sacrificing the level 8 Thunder Dragonduo in its hand, that lord could special summon himself.. taking on the form of a long white electric dragon(9/3000/2000) [Zone 3] with golden spines and antlers. "But you get to decide who deserves what emotions and where, right?" The encrypter yelled at her, knowing fully well the incoming direct attacks would just hurt him worse. "Of course. Only those who can control their emotions with reason, should be given the freedom to use them." Scarlet and her Chaos drone entered the battle phase, which was dominated by the thunder bolts of the Dragonlord.
Vigionaire's LP: 4000
"Gah!" The storm knocked Vigionaire back to the ground, sending him rolling through the muck and grime of the ship graveyard. "It is not too late, V. This humiliating resistance is hardly befitting for a man of your intellect. We should combine our minds, not pit them against each other. I know you have often lamented the weakness and selfishness of those around you. Together we could make it all better. We could even save Asterisk. But only if you surrender to me." The entity ended its turn at this point. "Don't you bring him into this. If he were here, he would damn you for even trying to tempt me. Allthough he would say it politely." Vigionair growled his reply. "You should set aside your own emotions and consider the possibilities, Vigionair. Think it through, because this is your last chance to join me. I will not be able to stop Continuum after this turn."
-TURN 07-
"My head is already clear, Scarlet. Knowledge is meant to serve those without it as well, not just to satisfy those who already have it! It should be free for everyone to see and know!" Vigionair drew his final card with defiance. "Of course, a little luck helps here and now too. I activate Glorious Numbers! I special summon one Number from my graveyard and draw one card!" Not while his deck kept giving him spells like the Number reviver. It special summoned the Neo Galaxy-Eyes Tachyon Dragon(4500/3800) [Zone 2] back to the field, albeit without any of its powers. "...And then I activate Galaxy Trance! I pay 2000 of my lifepoints to special summon one Photon monster from my graveyard to the field! And I can summon one with the same name from my deck! But I can only special summon Galaxy or Photon monsters this turn!" Another duplication took place after his lifepoints got halved. The original Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragons(8/3000/2500) [Zones 4 & 3] emerged from both the past and the future.
Vigionair's LP: 2000
"And here is one more equation for the road. I summon Galaxy Eyes Sixty-Two! Galaxy-Eyes Prime Photon Dragon!" While this regular Number would not have as much rank or power as the chaosnumber: the star crusading Prime Photon Dragon(R8/4000/3000) possessed a different quality. "Prime Photon detaches one material to increase its attackpoints by two hundred times the combined ranks of all XYZ-monsters I control! Here ends the lesson! Prime Photon Dragon attacks the Thunder Dragonlord!" This effect did halve all battle damage again, but in the end the sheer force of the powered up Number Dragon(7400/3000) would be much more than Continuum could take. The dragon unfolded its cosmically shining wings and unleashed the light of the galaxy upon the king of Thunderdragons.
Continuum's LP: 0
"You actually.. did it." Scarlet calmly watched, as the chaos drone of Continuum suffered the fate of a complete lifepoint drain. "But did you think it would end there?" As soon as the drone collapsed in on itself, several more teleported into the scene.. "V!" Charles shouted as he saw them all appear from his end. But soon it appeared that he would get the same problems plaguing his team. A dozen or so Continuums warped into the skies of the jungle forest where their Obelisk stood. "It can see us?" The entities homed in right on them. "Of course, Charles Adami. Even if you keep changing the frequencies of your invisibility, I will inevitably catch some flaws in that system." Scarlet had them surrounded. They could not win this without Eco. It took Vigionair everything he had to just bring down one. Even he could not replicate his victory every time.
"Heh." Luckily he did not have to. "Gotcha, Scarlet.." Because the entities all froze up at that very second. "What is this?" And Scarlet did not know why. "Oh? I thought you could recognize a computer-virus when you saw one, Scarlet. That's just a little trick I learned from you.."
