A.N. — Another drabble on the date of someone's death here (at least in movie canon). In his case, it was quite gruesome (massacred by Voldemort!), and most will say deserved. But I want to focus on another, fanon, aspect.

121. Griphook the goblin

Owning the only wizarding bank was a boon for the goblins. As an account manager, Griphook's reach was limited. But, due to the Potter vaults, he led a privileged life.

As the only living human with a claim to their contents was still an infant, Griphook used his position as overseer of the family's fortune to profit. Griphook sent no financial reports to Harry, as he couldn't read. His relatives were muggles, and warranted no consideration.

Griphook's duplicity led to his downfall. Harry never discovered Griphook's indiscretion with his inheritance, but the goblin's betrayal of the boy still proved fatal.
