Situation: John's birth

Scene 1: A Delivery Room

Action: An exhausted but determined Sarah (19) struggles to deliver John

Sarah (crying and screaming out in pain): UGH...AHA...AHA...AHA

Doctor (waiting for the baby to crown): Push, Sarah, Push Again

Sarah (stretching and stressing herself): AHA...AHA...AHA..AHA

Doctor: Push and Bear Down More, Sarah

Sarah (pushing aggressively with the contractions): AHA...AHA...AHA...AHA

A nurse (applying pressure on Sarah's stomach): This baby must come out right now

Sarah (weary): All of the pushing is not working. I don't understand why the baby isn't coming out if I having contractions.

Nurse: Having your first baby takes a long time

Doctor: Especially if the baby is stuck

Sarah (fearful): The baby is stuck

Nurse (checking the fetal heartbeat): The fetal heartbeat is in distress

Sarah (still fearful): Will I lose my baby?

Nurse (places a comforting hand on Sarah's shoulder): Everything will be ok

Sarah (rubbing her stomach): I trust and believe you

Doctor (preparing Sarah for an emergency cesarean section): The baby is super big. It appears he doesn't want to come out the old natural way. In addition to his large size, his heartbeat is in distress. My team and I will perform an emergency cesarean section. Do we have your permission to do this surgical procedure?

Sarah (distraught): Yes

Scene 2: Sarah's Hospital Recovery Room

Sarah (barely awake, she calls out for John): John..

A Nurse (places John in Sarah's arms): Here is your son, Ms. Connor

Sarah (crying tears of joy): Hello, my little angel

The doctor (entering the room): Ms. Connor, I am glad that you are awake

Sarah: I thank you for saving John's life and mine

The doctor: Although the cesarean section saved his life and yours, there were complications

Sarah (holding John closer to her chest): What kind of complications? Is there something wrong with John?

Doctor: John is in perfect good health.

Sarah (relieved): Thats good

Doctor: The problem is you can't have any more children. A second pregnancy would put your life and your unborn child's life in danger.

Sarah (choked up): I understand that John will be my only child

(Then the flashback ends)

Time Period: The Present Reality

Date: Sometime in September of 1999

Place: Charley's house- The backyard

John (playing around with the dog): Come here, buddy

Charley (to Sarah): I can imagine Johnny having a sibling someday

Sarah (nervous and anxious): I went to the doctor for a checkup today

Charley (greatly concerned): I should've went with you to the doctor's office. Why didn't you tell me about your appointment?

Sarah: I am sorry that I didn't tell you about my appointment. I didn't want to bother or burden you.

Charley (taking Sarah's hands in his hands): You are not a burden. What did the doctor say?

Sarah (choked up): The doctor reaffirmed that I couldn't have any more children. A second pregnancy would put my life and my unborn child's life in danger.

Charley (angry): I wanted to have a large family. You ruined my plans. I want you to move out of my house. The engagement is off.

(Sarah is completely speechless and devastated. It breaks John's heart to see his mom cry).


Time Period: A Flashback- Sometime during To The Lighthouse

Scene: John's bedroom

Sarah (knocking on the door): May I come in?

John: Yes

Sarah: I know we are preparing to make a big move

John (looking up from his laptop): What is your point?

Sarah (choked up): They found something

John: What do you mean by they found something?

Sarah: The doctor found a lump on my brea

John (hugging Sarah): I am so sorry. I love you.

Sarah: I love you too. We will get through this.

Scene: The dining room- the next morning

Sarah (joining her family for breakfast at the table): I apologize for being late for breakfast

Cameron: I heard you vomiting upstairs. Kacey vomited when she was pregnant. Are you pregnant?

John: Cameron.. what the hell?

Sarah (lying to Cameron): I am not pregnant. I had food poisoning from last night.

Cameron: I thank you for explaining

Sarah: We should focus on the big move

Derek: I don't understand why we are moving

Sarah: John and I need a fresh start

Derek: What about the machine and myself?

Sarah: You can tag along if you want to

(Then Flashback ends)


Time Period: A Flashback to Kitty's birth

Place: A Hospital Delivery Room

The doctor (to Sarah): Please stop pushing

Sarah (overpowered and overwhelmed by contractions): I have to push so badly. Why must I stop?

Kyle (to Sarah): They found something

Sarah: Like What?

Doctor: The Umbilical cord for tied around the baby's neck
